Lisa Thomas co founded The Primrose Bakery with 2012 mentor Martha Swift

Martha Swift's business partner Lisa Thomas grew up surrounded by cakes in her auntie’s shop in New Zealand. She is co-author of The Primrose Bakery Book.

‘I can still remember one of our first big orders- for 800 cupcakes. We baked through the night and even used the ironing board for workspace.

'The sense of achievement was so satisfying. We’ve never said no to an order, but you have to follow through, even if it means no sleep.’

Success strategy?

‘Sometimes naivety gives you the freedom to take a risk. It’s not necessary to know every drawback before you embark on a business venture, you learn form the challenges along the way.’
