    Don't worry, it's not NSFW

People are sexting now more than ever. Yup, the benefits of sexting to a relationship (and your own sexual prowess) have been proven to be considerable. So, what are you waiting for? Consider dirty texting a modern relationship milestone.

Back in 2012, 21% of people, on average, admitted to sexting when asked in academic studies, but now that number has gone up to 67%, according to a sex survey carried out by period-tracking app Clue. I'm no fool in thinking people didn't sext (or even send dirty messages via post/fax/homing pigeons) beforehand but it's now becoming more socially accepted as a done thing.

According to Amanda Gesselman, Research Scientist at the Kinsey Institute: 'this increase, and the large proportion of respondents, suggests that incorporating tech into our private lives is becoming normal – sexting may be becoming a new, but typical, step in a sexual or romantic relationship.'

But, sometimes sexting, feels a little silly we know, we've been there. So, here's our comprehensive guide to how to get really good at it because like everything, it just requires practice. You're welcome.

When someone asks you 'what you wearing?' LIE

Chances are, I'll be in sweatpants with greasy hair waiting for my JustEat takeaway to arrive but is that what I'll tell my SO (significant other)? Nope...

This is when reality V fantasy comes into play OK?

Are you currently sprawled out on the sofa bingeing on your latest box-set or are you lying, naked, with nothing but a sheet covering you looking like an absolute goddess? ALWAYS go with the latter. And, if you're not feeling that adventurous, add emojis. The winky guy is always acceptable... 'Nothing ?'

It'll genuinely change your life across the board but also really helps to get your creative juices flowing (sorry) when it comes to writing anything sexual. Also, it helps you paste in any default text that you may have found when googling 'sexting examples' - hey, Google is great.

    Set your messages free

    http://gph.is/2bK4lpF

You're sassy and you know it. You've just sent something a little risqué but you are seriously feeling yourself.

Don't get paranoid when you see two blue ticks (and no reply)

    http://gph.is/1eQqptH

Chances are, you've thrown your other half off guard. In fact, the better your sext chat, the more likely you are to have a few pauses because they'll be on the other end of the line thinking 'shit, what do I say now!?' or if you're really good, they may just be, er, getting busy.

Don't be afraid to get descriptive

    http://gph.is/1UBlOeC

Honestly, the more basic and obvious your description may seem, the better. Imaginative visuals are everything in sexting land and they'll love it.

Know that this is what your messages are doing to your SO right now

So have fun with it. And know that sexting is not a formal contract, it's just a spur of the moment thing to inject some ? into a moment where you're not together.

So go forth, and sext my friend

We hope this guide has been helpful and just remember, when in doubt? Emoji.

And, don't forget you can now add GIFs into your WhatsApp chats too (by going +, photo and video library and then searching for a GIF.) It's life changing for all walks of life.
