    Makes sense, right?

For years there have been theories circulating about Harry Potter. As you may know, we love a fan theory, mainly because it shows fans’ dedication to the source material. Also, the thing with Harry Potter is that the universe it’s set in continues to grow. J.K. Rowling is constantly adding to it through the hub that is Pottermore, and there are new stories like The Cursed Child and the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise.

Basically, we can never, ever get enough of Harry Potter.

While most fan theories surrounding Potter usually focus on the titular character, Voldemort, or one of the more prominent cast of characters, we’ve just seen a fan theory about Aunt Petunia that has officially blown our minds.

According to one Tumblr user, Aunt Petunia might have been a witch all along.

The post on Tumblr, which actually dates back to 2014, and it claims (with some conviction, we might add) that Petunia really did have magical abilities.

Basically, the theory stems from a comment that J.K. Rowling made in 2004 about Petunia, way before the books were finished.

‘You might have got the impression that there is a little bit more to Aunt Petunia than meets the eye, and you will find out what it is,' Rowling revealed cryptically. 'She is not a squib, although that is a very good guess. Oh, I am giving a lot away here. I am being shockingly indiscreet.’

Of course, we later learned in the series that Petunia had been cripplingly jealous of her sister, Lily, when she found out that she was headed to Hogwarts. In fact, it’s revealed the Petunia even wrote a letter to Professor Dumbledore asking to see if there had been a mistake or not. Relatable, tbh.

When Dumbledore explained that there hadn’t been a mistake, Petunia turned her back on her sister and her magical abilities, dubbing the Potters ‘freaks.’

Well, what if Petunia did have magical ability, but it wasn’t really enough to warrant a place at Hogwarts? There are loads of hints dropped through out the books that there’s more to Petunia Dursley than meets the eye, but we’re only really offered brief glimpses as to what that may be.

That’s why Tumblr user sulietsexual decided to imagine what it would’ve been like if Harry and Petunia had met after The Second Wizarding War and our minds are officially BLOWN.

The theory suggests that all along Petunia had magical powers and that she hid them from Harry his entire life. For example, it argues that it was, in fact, Petunia that had smashed Aunt Marge’s glass in The Prisoner of Azkaban, and that it was because she couldn’t stand the way that her sister was being talked about.

It's not of the question, right?
