Britons quit UK for Christmas in record numbers
Why more than 3.3 million Brits will spend Christmas abroad this year

Why more than 3.3 million Brits will spend Christmas abroad this year
MORE THAN 3.3 million Brits will spend Christmas abroad this year.
The record number is thought to be down to a year's worth of miserable weather, although, if some 'experts' are to be believed, it's also due to the appalling trash on TV.
'After a year of bad weather, rising interest rates and wall-to-wall reality TV, people just want to celebrate Christmas somewhere else this year rather than at home,' said a spokesperson for Cooperative Travel who conducted the study.
But where are they all going? Top of the list is sunny Spain, which will welcome 19% of the fleeing British contingent, followed closely by the US.
However, more adventurous travellers are also booking breaks in Egypt, Tunisia, Finland and even India.
'The feedback from our customers is that, having missed out on a hot summer, they are desperate to get some sun over the winter,' said Co-op Travel managing director Mike Greenacre.
