Emilia Clarke is ditching Game of Thrones for a romantic holiday film
Love Actually vibes, anyone?
Love Actually vibes, anyone?
Dry your eyes my pretties, Khaleesi’s finally back. After we found out that Emilia Clarke had finished filming on Game of Thrones, we resigned ourselves to the fact that we wouldn’t be seeing her around as much after several years spent binging the HBO show. However, you won’t see any dragons and massacre in her next project as she’s slated to star in a romantic film called Last Christmas.
She’ll be starring along our new favourite actor Henry Golding, who captured hearts all over the office as the romantic lead Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians. We’re totally ready for him to follow in James Marsden and Chris Evans’ footsteps as a go-to romantic lead - we need another wave of romantic comedies, seriously. He’ll also be reunited with his A Simple Favor director Paul Feig, who’s helming the project.
While the details of the film’s story are being kept under wraps, The Hollywood Reporter described it as a ‘holiday romance set in London’. If you’re scandalised that they would dare compete with the reigning London Christmas romance Love Actually, don’t write an angry tweet just yet. The outlet also revealed that Emma Thompson is actually involved with the project as a screenwriter alongside Bryony Kimmings and if anybody knows what makes a lovable Christmas classic work, it’s her.
Henry Golding’s pretty jazzed about the new gig, as he shared the news on Twitter accompanied by a big fat heart emoji. He wrote, ‘Finally I can start getting excited and share the news... @paulfeig and I will be back to business in London at the end of the year’.
However in the meantime, Emilia’s still coming to grips with the end of her HBO show as she’s now finished filming her final scenes. She recently made a beautiful (and permanent) tribute, following in the footsteps of her co-stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. Earlier today, she shared a new tattoo of three dragons flying away on her wrist inked by celebrity tattoo artist Dr. Woo.
In it, she wrote, ‘made sure this mamma ain’t NEVER forgetting her babies…’

While it hasn’t been revealed when the Last Christmas will be coming out, we’ve got our fingers crossed that it drops this December. Seriously, there’s only so many times we can watch A Christmas Prince on Netflix - we need something new to sob over at sleepovers.
