So much has happened...

We don't think any other year has been memed or referenced so negatively and quite so much as 2016.

It was the year that brought us President Elect Trump and Brexit, not to mention the loss of some of our most treasured stars: David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Carrie Fisher and Alan Rickman to name but five.

But, it wasn't all bad. Remember? Pokémon Go enthralled children and adults alike, the Olympics were another stunning display of athleticism, Beyoncé released Lemonade, JK Rowling brought us back to the Potterverse thanks to Fantastic Beasts - and that's not forgetting to mention that Andy Murray and Serena Williams both won Wimbledon again, the Queen turned 90, Bridget Jones made a triumphant return and Leo finally bagged that Oscar!

So without further ado, let's look back and revisit the year's big entertainment and newsy moments in photos. Scroll through our round up to re-live the highs and lows of 2016 as you step into the new year.
