Ellen DeGeneres replaces Paula Abdul on American Idol
Ellen DeGeneres has signed up to replace Paula Abdul as American Idol’s new judge.
Despite rumours that Victoria Beckham was set for the job, the TV presenter has pipped her to the post, to become the panel’s fourth judge.
Posh took the hot seat for two guest appearances on the show, in a stint of revolving celebrity judges, which also included Shania Twain and Mary J. Blige.
‘Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel,’ a statement from Fox television confirmed.
The move confirms DeGeneres’ positions as one of America’s leading TV personalities – she already has her own talk show, where she interviews celebs, such as her latest subject, David Beckham.
Confirming that she’d continue with her eponymous show as well, she told the audience yesterday, ‘I’m going to have a day job and a night job. This is so exciting for me.’
As for her new role, Degeneres added, ‘Hopefully I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you. I sit at home and I watch it. … I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.’
