The average man proposes after three years

If you're more than three years into a relationship, it seems a marriage proposal is already overdue.

According to new research the average couple gets engaged two years, 11 months and eight days after their eyes first meet. However, this simply isn't soon enough for women, who apparently feel ready to say 'I do' after just two years, seven months and 24 days.

The poll of 3,000 engaged or married couples was carried out by The National Wedding show and revealed that one in ten couples has even set a time limit on when they get engaged.

Alexandra Campos, of The National Wedding Show, said: 'Men everywhere should be getting ready to buy that ring and get down on one knee if they are anywhere near the three-year anniversary.'

However Campos added: 'If you really want to earn some brownie points, you could pop the question a few months earlier, as this research shows that's when women think it's the perfect time to get engaged.'

If you're fed up of waiting and don't think it'll scare him off…the research also revealed that one in ten women breaks with tradition and pops the question themselves. Well, it is a leap year…
