A £2million study has found that not only does pomegranate help prevent heart disease, reduce stress and improve matters in the bedroom, but it could keep you looking young
Already heralded as a superfood, pomegranate can help you deal with stress, prevent heart disease and give you an added spark in the bedroom.
And if that isn't enough, the fruit has also been hailed as an elixir, helping to slow down the ageing process of DNA and keep you feeling young.
The study, by researchers at the private ProbelteBio Laboratory in Murcia, Spain, found a significant decrease in cell damage, which impares brain, muscle, liver and kidney function in participants given pomegranate capsules every day for a month.
'We are very excited about this study which we believe demonstrates that regular consumption of this pomegranate extract can slow down the process of DNA oxidation,' says study leader, Dr Sergio Streitenberger.
'One way to look at ageing is to think of it as rusting, or oxidising, a damaging process,' he says. 'Being able to guard against this process would be a significant breakthrough.'
Last year, researchers at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh found that pomegranate juice could reduce stress at work.
