We all know the quality of your photography can make of break a blog or Instagram feed. That’s why we teamed up with Fujifilm to offer eight beauty bloggers, photographers and social influencers the chance to take part in a masterclass. After the success of our first ever Fujifilm x Marie Claire photography workshop, we decided that we just had to do it all over again.

Powered by the new Fujifilm XT30 camera, this time we focused on Beauty.

When it comes to photography, there’s nothing quite like being on set. Whether it’s the thrill of getting ‘the shot’, networking with Creatives’, meeting interesting people or even wondering what delicious shoot food you’ll be eating, the atmosphere is electric.

We assembled a team of experts, as well as eight keen photographers and spent the day road testing the XT30, from discovering the ins and outs of beauty flat-lays plus getting a first hand insight into shooting a beauty shoot. Whether it’s processes and technicalities, working with Make-up Artists and a professional photographer, the aim of the day was to learn more about beauty photography with some great hands-on experience.

After a quick Photography 101 where we learnt about aperture, composition and lighting, it was on to the main event: the model shoot.

Beauty Shots

With the help of our super talented make-up artist, Sara Hill, we created two looks on our models: one that taps into the Insta-now aesthetic, think clean and super dewy skin and the other a more dramatic eye.

Still Life

No beauty shoot is complete without getting to grips with still life. Moving products even a few millimetres can totally change the outcome of the shot and it is extremely satisfying to smear a lipstick all over a piece of cardboard. Yes, you can get amazing shots with a smart phone, but nothing beats the precision of an actual IRL camera, and the X-T30 is small, light and an absolute pleasure to shoot with. That’s how to inject life to your images on Instagram.
