‘Tess is extremely upset about this and we're working through it,' the dad-of-two told the Sun. ‘I knew it was getting silly. I'm never going to do it again and hopefully I can clear the slate clean and start again. I'm so sorry. I've been an idiot and I've let my family down.'
Of course, some might argue that sending dirty text messages doesn't really count as cheating. As Vernon says: ‘I suppose it's like fantasy land, just words... I thought it was harmless banter and just larking around.'
It seems that ‘sexting' is the modern equivalent of lipstick on your collar, however Kay's spokesman insisted: ‘Vernon has not cheated. He didn't sleep with this girl.'
