If you wanted to know what all the real people will be wearing when the spring 2016 fashion season arrives, the best person to ask was always going to be Stella McCartney. Season after season she delivers what the fashion pack really want to see – trend-tinged, easy silhouettes that will become wardrobe staples as soon as you buy them.

These are our takeaways from today’s show, watched by an eclectic FROW of Suki Waterhouse, MIA, Rhys Ifans and, of course, Sir Paul...

Check Up Distorted picnic checks dominated the first five looks, twisted in panels down sporty jersey midi dresses. We’re calling these special plaids and upgraded checks the first trend of next spring, after spotting them at Victoria Beckham, Celine and more major names already. See every single look in the gallery above.

The Polo Collar Is there anything dreamier than the thought of lounging around in a stretchy wrap-around polo top come next summer? Teamed with our Stan Smiths and a colour-pop satchel, Stella’s key top shape practically styles itself.

Pleats, Please Stella is renowned for her mastery of the sundress, and for SS16 she’s paying extra attention to pleats. Layers of sunrays in clicking and clashing colours made for girly but graphic effects on skirts and tops, teamed with flatform sandals for what now feels like the designer’s signature summer vibe.

Blurred Lines Squiggles and swirls also ruled on the catwalk at Christian Dior’s show last week, making this trend spot all the more important. We’ll be getting our fix with subtle scalloped edges through the winter, before playing with sheer effects when the new season kicks in.
