Those divorce rumours won't go away, with sources insisting Madonna and Guy Ritchie are heading for a split
Madonna and Guy Ritchie are set to divorce, it has been reported today.
According to The Sun, the couple are set to announce their separation imminently, and Guy has even flown back from filming his new movie in France to tell his parents.
The couple, who married seven years ago in a Scottish castle, have been the subject of split rumours for the last few months, which they have constantly denied. But, the paper claimed, an escalation in rows has seen them communicating via their personal assistants.
It reported that Madonna had wanted to wait until the end of her Sticky and Sweet tour to announce the split, but that both parties now want a divorce finalised before Christmas.
A source told The Sun: ‘Despite huge attempts to patch things up they both knew deep down that divorce was on the cards. It wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. They tried hard over the last few months but their fighting was getting out of control.
‘The final straw came before Madonna started her US tour.
‘Madonna wanted a highly stage-managed separation, with their split being announced when it was convenient for her.
‘She didn’t want the distraction while she is trying to concentrate on her tour.
‘But a series of rows around Guy’s 40th birthday last month were so bad that Madge ended up storming out of the house and Guy’s had enough.
‘Guy said if they were going to split, it has to be now — and their marriage will finally be over in a matter of weeks.
‘Madonna was dithering at first about whether a separation would be best or whether to go ahead with the divorce.
The source added: ‘She has now agreed with Guy that a divorce is the best thing to do.’
It is thought that Guy is fed up of taking a backseat to his superstar wife, and that he doesn’t share her desire to adopt another child.
The source said: ‘Guy adores David and is glad they went ahead with the adoption. But he doesn’t want to adopt another child when their marriage is rocky. It’s a real bone of contention.’
Madonna’s rep has so far declined to comment.
