  • Cheryl knocks back multi-million pound Idol offer for Ashley

Cheryl Cole has turned down a £4million offer to become a judge on American show American Idol.

Why? Because the Girls Aloud star doesn’t want to leave her husband Ashley Cole behind in Britain.

Cole was rumoured to be stepping into the empty seat left by former American Idol judge Paula Abdul, who quit the show after Simon Cowell and presenter Ryan Seacrest both received large pay packets for the next season of the reality show.

Cheryl has been turning heads since she touched down in Los Angeles last week to complete her solo album with Black Eyed Peas singer and producer

Since her arrival, rumours have been rife that the star was gearing up to take over the American Idol role, however once source has point-black denied that Cheryl is poised to take the job.

A friend quoted in the Metro newspaper revealed: ‘Cheryl hasn’t had any TV meetings since she’s been over there. There have never been plans for her to go on US TV.

‘It would mean she would have to leave Britain, which she won’t do because it’s her home. She wouldn’t leave Ashley behind.’

They added: ‘She’s only over there to work on her new solo album in the studio. She only wants to focus on her music. That’s what she is  – a singer.’

However Simon Cowell knows full well the Geordie’s big bucks potential and his production company, Syco, are said to be grooming Cheryl as a top TV personality.

Cowell is approaching it in the same way as he did with Leona Lewis – a softly, softly approach.

For the 26-year-old, however, it seems her top priority is her hubby and her home. Since allegations last year that Chelsea star Ashley was unfaithful, the pair have worked hard to repair the cracks in their relationship and Cheryl isn’t about to leave the 28-year-old to his own devices…
