The Office for National Statistics has released its annual list of the best paid jobs in the country, and its got us thinking that we may need a career change. We previously reported how much fashion jobs pay, but this list is next level. These are the top ten best paid jobs in the UK as of this year, and rest assured, the salaries will make you weep.

With the average salary in the UK sitting at £34,414, this list blows a normal salary right out of the water – the 10th place spot on this list is already double that. It might be time to start sucking up to your boss for a promotion...

Scroll through to find out which profession earns more than all the rest (clue: It's not lawyers or doctors).

Bank and insurance managers/directors

Average gross salary: £75,169

It makes sense that bankers are somewhere on the list, as their career is all about money, right? Managers and directors in the bank and insurance industries can hope to make more than double the average UK salary.

IT and telecommunication directors

Average gross salary: £78,701

There's a lot more to IT than just asking if you've 'tried turning it off and on again'. Working your way up in the world of IT and telecomms will get you a pretty nice salary.

Doctors

Average gross salary: £78,386

Obviously a doctor's salary varies depending on their seniority, but once a doctor has specialised and completed their training, they're looking at making a decent living for themselves.

Air traffic controllers

Average gross salary: £81,132

The salary might sound impressive, but less than one per cent are actually successful in getting the necessary air traffic controller's license, so it's by no means an easy career to pursue.

Lawyers

Average gross salary: £80,210

You probably came across many a law student at uni who was 'only in it for the money', and there's a reason for that: Once a lawyer has worked his or her way up the career ladder, they can earn even more than the average salary of £80k.

Investment bankers

Average gross salary: £84,675

Again, another career that's all to do with money, investment banking is a career that's known for bringing in the big bucks.

Pilots and flight engineers

Average gross salary: £86, 915

It's fair enough that pilots and flight engineers get paid this much really, as flying and fixing a plane is a pretty high responsibility job that would take hella training.

Marketing directors

Average gross salary: £87,890

Marketing is a pretty high-stress career, and so the average salary of a director reflects that.

Chief Executors

Average gross salary: £123,577

A CEO of a company is going to be making the big time bucks, and an average salary of almost £125 thousand would do us just nicely, thanks.

Brokers

Average gross salary: £133,868

And in at number one? Well, it's the brokers of the UK of course. Put simply, its a whopper of a salary.
