Claudia Schiffer claims the supermodel is dead

Claudia Schiffer blames actresses for the decline of the supermodel

Claudia Schiffer has claimed the age of the supermodel is over, and that models can no longer achieve the fame that she enjoyed along with Naomi, Christy and Cindy in the nineties. Speaking to Fivetonine magazine in her native Germany, the model stated: ‘Supermodels like we once were don’t exist any more.’

Commenting on the end of the supermodel, Schiffer blamed the increased use of actresses on magazine covers and advertising. She said: ‘ In order to become a supermodel one must be on all the covers all over the world… That is, for now, not possible, not least because the advertising industry is very much taken nowadays by popstars and actresses.’

She did, however, grant supermodel status to one model, Gisele Bundchen. Schiffer commented: ‘Her face is well-known, her name is recognised – but no other girl occurs to me that people in the street would recognise.’
