Only one in seven modern women would call themselves 'feminists', according to a poll by Netmums, Britain's largest women's website.

The survey also revealed that 28 per cent feel radical feminism is 'aggressive' towards men, and a quarter feel 'feminist' is not a good label for women.

Only one in 50 felt feminist author Germaine Greer (pictured) is a positive role model for women.

Interestingly, age plays a factor in how women view themselves. Only nine per cent of women aged 25-29 said they identified with the feminist movement, whereas a quarter of women aged 45-50 said they were feminists.

The biggest concern for modern women is to reinstate the value and importance of motherhood. Two thirds of the women surveyed made this their number one priority.

The study shows most young women want to be free to make decisions to suit their personal beliefs. Social commentators have called this 'feMEnisim'.

The majority of women wanted feminism to ensure women have 'real choice over their family, career and lives'.

Modern women also no longer believe looking glamorous stops them being taken seriously, with 93 per cent believing using fake tan and eyelashes were fine and 67 per cent backing botox.

Netmums founder Siobhan Freegard says: 'As the UK's biggest women's website with over a million women logging on each week, we are best placed to work out what young women want now.

'The study starkly shows modern women feel traditional Feminism is no longer working for them, as it's aggressive, divisive and doesn't take into account their personal circumstances.

'Modern women simply don't view men as 'the enemy' - instead men are their partners, their fathers, their brothers and their sons to be loved and cherished. And it's clear there is no longer a 'battle of the sexes' but a coming together of the sexes to make society work for everyone in it.'
