Raw talent, goofball charm and a badass wit have made her one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading ladies.

A few things you may or may not know about Marie Claire’s April issue cover star Amy Adams: she once worked as a waitress at Hooters, she is one of seven children, her mother used to be a competitive body builder, Meryl Streep taught her how to knit, she loves a bit of karaoke…

Scratch the surface and there’s so much more to Amy Adams than meets the eye, as we discovered when we met her at the Chateau Marmont for Marie Claire’s April issue cover story.

Discussing her latest role as Lois Lane in new superhero movie Batman V Superman, Amy told us she tried very hard not to stare too much at Henry Cavill’s glorious torso. ‘In between shots it was like, “Put on a robe please, and make everyone feel less bad about themselves’” she said, adding that even her husband found it hard not to stare. ‘I had to apologise to him at one point. I’m like, “I promise I’m not that pervy.” He’s just so good to look at. My husband likes to look at him, our [five-year-old] daughter likes to look at him… we’re just a creepy family.’

Amy married her long-term partner, artist Darren Le Gallo last year, in a very tasteful-sounding ceremony that took place on an L.A ranch under a tree (inspired by the marriage scene in Forrest Gump), though they almost did things very differently in Las Vegas a few years before. ‘We wanted to find a chaplain, go to the desert and get married at sunset,’ Amy told us. ‘But to be quite honest, we got too drunk. Then it was just not going to happen.’

She also added that married life had changed her attitude to relationships. ‘I definitely feel like I can’t make empty threats. Before I could just be like, “I’m just going to go down and get a hotel and think this through… I’m making myself sound horrible to this poor, awesome guy. Relationships are hard. I think what I learned is, you just have to make a choice. Marriage is a choice.’
