The actress says her Academy Awards looks in 2000 and 2002 were 'glaring fashion faux pas'

She may rarely put a foot wrong style-wise nowadays, but Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that there are a few fashion disasters that still haunt her.

Taking to her Goop website, the actress has opened up about the worst sartorial choices of her career including two looks from the Oscars – the sparkly silver dress with a sheer overlay by Calvin Klein that she wore to hit the red carpet at the 2000 Academy Awards, and the now infamous goth Alexander McQueen gown that she chose for the ceremony two years later.

Asked by the founders of designer shopping website Moda Operandi whether she's had any fashion faux pas, Gwyneth says: 'There are a few glaring ones. Two that come to mind are looks I wore to the Oscars in 2000 and 2002. The first is the Calvin Klein. It's an okay dress but not Oscars material. I chose it because I wanted to disappear that year.'

She goes on to agree with what every fashion critic said about her 2002 look – that wearing the McQueen dress sans bra and with heavy make-up and milkmaid braided hair just didn't work.

She adds: 'There were a few issues. I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less make-up. Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to, [it was] a little bit of punk at the Oscars.'

With those fashion mishaps well in the past, Gwynnie goes on to pick out her favourite style moments, which include the high fashion minimalist white Tom Ford gown and matching cape that she wore to last year's Oscars (our standout look of the night) and the blush pink Prada gown at the Venice Film Festival in 2011.

Gwyneth says: 'I have to say that since I started working with stylist Elizabeth Saltzman and have put my red carpet looks in her hands, I think they are all pretty maje. I can say this because I have just about nothing to do with it. Standouts for me are the pink Prada dress at the 2011 Venice Film Festival, and of course the white Tom Ford from the Oscars last year.'

Pretty maje indeed.
