Singer Carolynne Pool lost out after the vote went to deadlock, leaving Nicole Scherzinger's outlandish singer Rylan Clark to go through.
Saturday evening's show saw country singer Carolynne Pool warble her way through Nicki Minaj hit Starships, while Rylan Clark put in a controversial performance of Spandau Ballet's Gold.
And while Carolynne's performance was praised by judges, with Louis Walsh even tipping her as 'the next Shania Twain', Rylan Clark didn't fare quite so well, with Gary retorting: 'I wanted to have some fun and I really was having fun until you started singing tonight. I was embarrassed to be sat here.'
But both found themselves in the bottom two.
During a heated finale to the first weekend of X Factor 2012 live shows, the casting vote was left with Louis Walsh, who seemingly struggled to decide which of the finalists to save.
After initially choosing Carolynne Pool, he backtracked, saying: 'I'm sorry, I'm changing my mind, I want to take it to deadlock.'
Which time running out, Dermot O'Leary was finally handed an envelope containing the audience vote, which was in favour of Rylan Clark, sending country singer Carolynne home.
On hearing the result, furious Gary Barlow dramatically stormed straight off stage, later calling the outcome an 'absolute joke'.
Twelve finalists are now left in the competition, including bands District, Union J and MK1, girls Jade Ellis, Ella Henderson and Lucy Spraggan, and boys Jahmene Douglas and James Arthur.
