In statement Holmes said: 'I am thrilled to be coming back to the Broadway community and honoured to be a part of this team.'

Katieis no stranger to Broadway, as she made her debut in 2008 with the revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons.

The starlet's new play follows a Midwestern family, with the drama circling around the prodigal son Jack who unexpectedly returns home from New York to Cincinnati. Katie plays his sister, Lorna, who has been caring for their parents.

As well as taking big steps in her career, Katie has reportedly left Scientology behind and registered with a Catholic church, even enrolling daughter Suri Cruise into a Catholic school from next year.

Sources say Katie is also trying to give the six-year-old Suri a normal childhood, deciding that the designer clothes and high heels that made Suri a little fashion icon, will not be part of her new life.
