We all know that global warming is threatening our planet. We all know that we need to do something about it. But did you know just how seriously we're under threat? Or how quickly we need to act?

In a bid to motivate the general public (and their governments) to change their behaviour and prevent large-scale devastation, Climate Central teamed up with visual artist Nickolay Lamm (yep, the guy behind the Lammily doll) to create images that depict the future of our planet as we know it.

The first images show what cities such as Sydney, London, New York and Shanghai would look like following a two degree increase in temperature.

This is the temperature increase that has been set out by the United Nations as a 'reasonable increase', even if we all change our lifestyles and reduce carbon pollution in the immediate future. Eg, this is going to happen, guys. Probably in the next 100 years.

The second images show what the same cities would look like following a four degree increase in temperature.

So to put that into perspective, a four degree increase in temperature is also almost certain to happen if we carry on living in the way we are right now.
