Stress is biggest passion-killer in the bedroom
IF YOUR SEX life is flatter than a week-old can of coke, it’s more than likely due to the stress of modern life, experts have revealed.
Work difficulties, financial worries, and tiredness brought on by long office hours are playing havoc with the sex lives of 15 million Britons.
And the study, carried out on 2,037 over-16s by relationship counselling organisation Relate, says the lack of fire in the bedroom is damaging thousands of relationships. Half of those surveyed said stress or medical issues had affected their sex lives with loss of libido or discomfort being the biggest problems.
Three in five of those surveyed also admitted to struggling to talk about sexual issues.
Denise Knowles, a relationship counsellor with Relate, tells the Daily Mail: ‘This research really emphasises the extent to which sexual problems, including stress, take on a bigger significance within the relationship.
‘I have worked with many couples who are so embarrassed about intimate health complaints that it has caused a huge breakdown in communication and put serious pressure on the relationship. Talking to a partner or a professional candidly about the issue is not easy, but it may save a great deal of emotional strain.’
