Why was Jonathan Rhys Meyers arrested at an airport in Paris?
Jonathan Rhys Meyers was arrested this weekend after allegedly punching a waiter in a ‘drunken’ scuffle.
The Irish actor was held in custody on Saturday after the argument at the Le Quotidien bar in the Charles de Gaulle airport.
According to reports, a staff member refused to serve Jonathan after he appeared to be drunk.
A shouting match with the bar’s manager ensued, before another employee stepped in to dilute the situation.
Rhys Meyers then allegedly lashed out at the employee.
He has been ordered to appear in court in a Paris suburb in September on charges of ‘wilful violence, outrage, hitting and threatening death,’ a source told Agence France Presse.
This is not the first time Rhys Meyers has landed himself in hot water at an airport – he was arrested and charged with drunk and disorderly in Dublin in 2007.
