We’ll happily give up Hiddleston for this one

There have been a whole host of amazing actors whose names have been thrown into the James Bond shaped ring, but so far, apart from a curveball that came in the form of the incredible Olivia Colman, all of these names have been men. That was until, Ms. Gillian Anderson stepped forward.

She tweeted a mocked up picture by an unknown fan, which showed the actress looking completely at home on the James Bond poster.

She tweeted: ‘It’s Bond. Jane Bond. Thanks for the votes! (And sorry I don’t know who made poster but I love it!) #NextBondYes #NextBond'

Gillian, yes #NextBond.

Seriously, why has no one thought of this before? Dana Scully from the X Files and The Fall’s Stella Gibson? We can hardly handle the wonder of it all.

X Files is back! And we want 90s Gillian Anderson back too

Neither could Twitter, which practically went into meltdown, with comments such as:

‘I’M GOING TO SELL MY SOUL TO SATAN FOR GILLIAN AS THE FIRST FEMALE BOND HAPPEN’

‘GIVE ME A FEMALE BOND STAT!’

Last week, Daniel Craig reportedly quit his role as Bond, and bookies stopped taking bets after the odds on Tom Hiddleston were slashed. Other names that are rumoured to be in consideration for the role are Idris Elba and Damian Lewis, and while were totally up for any of those stars becoming the next Bond, now Gillian has stepped up, all we can think about is her.

Sorry, boys.
