There's a new season on the way, and with it, a whole host of items to invest in. The first on our agenda has to be finding the best winter dresses.

Dresses are a staple part of any new season wardrobe, and with the arrival of autumn we’ve made it our mission to find all the best winter dresses out there.

From midi to maxi and printed to pencil – there are so many winter dresses out there, the options are endless. It’s great to have choice, but it can be tough to navigate the trends, so we’ve made life that little bit easier for you and rounded up the coolest styles to snap up right now.

Naturally, we’re leaning towards all things knitted, as well as styles with a longer sleeves or detailed cuffs – and the high street has offered up plenty of styles that fit the bill.

Zara and Mango have taken on fashion’’s hottest AW16 trends, with 70s-inspired billowy-sleeved dresses lining the rails. Ruffled details are also a key trend and we’ve got plenty of pretty options in our edit.

If you’re looking to invest in something that makes more of a statement, check out the fash-pack favourite Ganni. With its dreamy silk printed maxi dresses and office-appropriate shirt dresses, instate this Danish brand as your go-to label for something extra-special.

If it’s a show-stopper you’re after, head to Topshop, French Connection and Hobbs where you’ll find some gorgeous evening dresses.

Hero buys this season include shirt dresses, denim dresses, ribbed sweater dresses and anything with a sporty twist. We’ve found the perfect boxy weekend dress in COS, but if you’re after a designer label, London-based brand Marques Almeida have added a sporty twist to their hallmark denim wares.

If you’re updating your workwear wardrobe, Finery and Warehouse are full of directional but office-appropriate styles. Or, perhaps you have a diary full of winter weddings, in which case we advise you check out our gallery of the perfect wedding guest dresses, too.
