We just can't imagine this.
Fans of Sex and the City look away now, for we have some shocking news regarding one of the show’s most talked about characters.
Yes, it was recently revealed that Chris Noth was NOT the original casting choice for the role of Mr Big.
The show’s creator, Darren Star revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he originally had someone else in mind for the role of Carrie’s on-off love interest.
‘I was thinking of Alec Baldwin for Big initially,’ he admitted. ‘I don’t really watch Law & Order, but I met with Chris Noth and thought he was perfect. I remember the first table read, how good he was. I’m not saying that Chris was Mr. Big, but he brought a lot of his own persona to the role.’
And Chris wasn’t the only actor close to missing out on a role as one of the show’s main men, with Darren revealing that the role of Aidan Shaw very almost went to someone else as well.
So, who almost played Carrie’s carpenter boyfriend?
‘We initially were thinking about Aidan Quinn for Aidan, but I think he wasn’t available,’ Darren revealed. ‘I loved John Corbett in Northern Exposure, and we were like, “Well, what’s John Corbett been up to?” He just had the laconic, dudish vibe. But we kept ‘Aidan’ because we loved the name.’
Fans of SATC will remember that Aidan Shaw was Mr Big’s biggest rival in the battle for Carrie’s heart, and the fact both men were almost played by entirely different actors really would have changed the Sex and the City we all know and love. Especially when we remember that Sarah Jessica Parker very almost QUIT SATC after the show’s pilot episode.
But never mind Big and Aidan, can we all just take a minute to appreciate what Samantha’s toy boy Smith Jared looks like today.
Now, there’s a character who should have had more air time.
