Four ways to make more time for your passion projects

In partnership with GoDaddy

Anyone with a side hustle or passion project will know that the old “do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” adage is, frankly, codswallop.

More accurate would be: do something you love and you’ll probably work most days of your life and then spend the other days thinking about working and wondering why, on earth, you aren’t. Whether balancing your passion project with a day job, caring responsibilities or the pursuit of seven hours sleep (or, as is the case for most women, all of the above) finding time to work on the thing that makes you truly happy isn’t easy.

That’s why we’ve partnered with GoDaddy to bring you some tips on persevering with your passion. From sorting out your schedule to seeking help from the right sources, here’s how to make time for what truly matters.

Be realistic

If you’re a lifelong people pleaser (guilty as charged) saying no to requests both professional and personal is one of the most difficult things about growing your passion project. But dropping a few plates is necessary if you want to make regular time for your side hustle.

Wedging in a daily hour of work between 11pm and midnight may sound feasible on paper, but ask yourself: will it work long term? Looking after your mental health is the most important thing, so don’t overburden yourself and don’t say yes to things that will spread you too thin.

Be honest and open

In a world of career profiles and CEO podcasts, it can often seem like the only way to grow your business is to present a perfect picture to the world. But documenting your passion project’s journey is a great way of reflecting on how far you’ve come and connecting with other entrepreneurs who are going through the same thing.

Adding a regular blog element to your GoDaddy website, documenting your journey on Instagram or sending a regular newsletter to those keen on knowing how your project’s going (GoDaddy will sort that bit for you, too), don’t be afraid to document the struggles as well as the successes.

Ask for a helping hand

Starting a business can be lonely, but help is always on hand. Whether seeking a professional mentor or just asking someone you love to hold you accountable for your deadlines, don’t underestimate the power of people when it comes to carving out time to grow your passion project.

GoDaddy’s Websites + Marketing tool covers all bases – from helping you set up a business email to helping you build the website of your dreams (without tearing your hair out in the process). With GoDaddy Guides always on hand to help, trust us: this is one tool that’ll save you as much time as stress.

Sweat the small moments

Short bursts of productivity are much better than one long day of procrastination. Whether you’re on the bus home or waiting for a friend to turn up to your coffee date, those little time windows in which you could be scrolling Instagram accumulate to quite a lot of time that could be used to work on your passion project. Use them wisely.
