Scarlet Hannington

Freelance journalist

Scarlet Hannington is a freelance journalist specialising in gender based violence, sociocultural inequalities and the politics of sex and relationships. Her work can be found in Glamour UK, Al Jazeera, The Lead, and Huck. From exploring discrimination within family courts to highlighting gendered violence in both interpersonal and political arenas, her rigorous reporting and poignant analysis often seek to hold power to account.

Scarlet is particularly interested in how gender and societal systems intersect, as well as the real life repercussions of systemic failures. Her work is often centred around domestic abuse, sexual violence and criminal justice pathways, viewed through an intersectional feminist lens.

Alongside Scarlet’s work as a journalist, she delivers communication and campaign work for an anti-racist charity and spearheads conversations around abolition.
