Lewis Hamilton says he's still in love with ex-girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger - and he won't rule out a reconciliation.

The Formula 1 ace and pop singer Nicole separated last month after four-years together, blaming hectic lifestyles and busy work schedules, but Lewis says he hopes they may one day rekindle their romance.

Lewis has cut a forlorn figure since the painful break-up and was papped looking far from comfortable during an awkward conversation with ex-Nicole earlier in the week.

But despite his apparently frosty meeting with USA X Factor judge Scherzinger in the Los Angeles car park, Lewis insists things are far more cordial between the two than the shots suggest.

'Well, they didn't catch us at the best of times,' quipped Hamilton to The Mirror. 'What you didn't see is that we had a really good week, a couple of really nice lunches together.'

'It's very early days and we still have very strong feelings for one another. I still love her very much. So, who knows? Maybe we will be together in the future.'

The break-up, by his own admission, has affected his Formula 1 season, but as he prepares for the final race in San Paulo this Sunday the 26-year-old insists he's now in a better place: 'I'm very much here in a positive frame of mind.

'I am very happy to be here, I've great memories of being here in the past. Actually she (Scherzinger) was here with me when I won the world championship (in 2008), so I've very good memories,' the racing ace told The Mirror.

'I've a lot of positive energy at the moment.'
