Jade Goody prepares to say I do

Jade Goody was getting married this afternoon, after doctors gave her just months to live.

Although unwell ahead of the ceremony, after a whirlwind preparation period which has left her stressed and tired, the reality star's publicist, Max Clifford, said she was determined to walk down the aisle to meet fiancé Jack Tweed unaided.

Jade arrived at Down Hall Country House Hotel, in Sussex, on Saturday evening by helicopter, before enjoying a raucous hen do with friends, who'd all donned bald skullcaps in sympathy for Jade, who shaved her head after losing most of her hair to chemotherapy. According to tabloid reports, she was not planning to wear a veil today in defiance of what cancer has done to her hair.

It would be a 'bittersweet' day for the bride and groom, Clifford told the BBC.

'Most of us are concentrating on the fact that this is something that she's so happy about actually happening and so much looking forward to doing.

'And of course it's giving her something else to concentrate on and think about - something which is happy.'

The bride was to wear her 'dream' wedding dress, a fabulous £3,500 gown donated by Harrods' Mohamed al Fayed.

Al Fayed isn't the only celebrity benefactor to have leant their services to ensure the big day is a rip-roaring success: Jonathan Ross was to act at MC, while Girls Aloud had offered to perform after the wedding breakfast; A-list hangout Sketch was providing the cake.

'I spoke to Jade this morning and she's very excited, very nervous and really looking forward to the day,' Clifford told the hoards of reporters camped outside the wedding venue this morning.

'She's like a little one that's just woken up on Christmas Day.'

Tweed, meanwhile – who left his mother's house this morning dressed in women's underwear – said he would be fighting back tears when the ceremony took place.

Photographs of the event have been bought by OK! for a rumoured £700,000, while Living snapped up the TV rights for another £100,000; Jade has insisted that all proceeds go straight to her two little boys, Bobby and Freddie.
