Ed Sheeran has a part in the next season of Game of Thrones

The night is dark and full of ... Ed Sheeran?

The night is dark and full of ... Ed Sheeran?

It has been a very long 9 months since we watched the end of Game of Thrones season 6. We're still not over the fact that Cersei out-Joffrey'd herself by blowing up the whole of Kings Landing.

And with season 7 set to air in July, we still have a lot of questions. Will Jon Snow find out he's actually half-Targaryen? Who is next on Arya Stark's hit list? And Gendry has been rowing for a good three seasons now - u ok hun?

While we don't know exactly what's coming, we do know that a very famous face will be appearing in this instalment of the fantasy drama.

Yes. Ed Sheeran, he who is absolutely smashing the UK charts at the moment (incase you live under a Sheeran-shaped rock, he currently has 16 of his songs in the top 20), will be making his way to Westeros.

Talking on the panel at SXSW in Texas, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed that Ed would be making his Game of Thrones debut very soon.

'For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,' they admitted.

Ed confirmed the news by tweeting, 'Guess the cats out the bag...', and the Twittersphere went appropriately wild.

However, it's unclear whether he'll be following in the footsteps Sigur Ros, Coldplay and Of Monsters and Men by making a musical cameo, or whether he will have a speaking part.

Game of Thrones season 7 is set to air on 7th July, and we'll be keeping an eye out for our favourite redhead (sorry, Sansa).
