The best of New York Fashion Week

My style highlights and lowlights from NYC

My style highlights and lowlights from NYC

It’s been a frantic few days, but New York Fashion Week is finally over. The fashion pack is currently flitting across the Atlantic, en masse, ready for London’s turn. But before we turn our focus to Blighty, here’s a few of my Big Apple highlights.

The best shows: Marc Jacobs (sorry, bit of an obvious choice, but it was fantastic), Donna Karan (lavish, luxe and unashamedly feminine) and Zac Posen (for the A-list front row and general spectacle, Zac’s shows simply can’t be beaten).

The best party: It has to be the opening of Armani’s Fifth Avenue store. Everyone was there, from Posh and Becks to Leonardo DiCaprio and Alicia Keys (oh, and me!).

The must-have front row accessory: Everyone’s still wearing their Louis Vuitton scarves (except yours truly who doesn’t have one and has been making do with an All Saints version instead).

Next season’s must-have front row accessory: A plain black headband, as seen parading down numerous runways including Calvin Klein Collection.

The best gift: $250 of gift vouchers for the new Diesel flagship store on Fifth Avenue - and this in a season when goody bags were as likely to be seen as Anna Wintour eating a Snickers bar.

The new black: Neon pink! Seriously, we’ll all be wearing it come autumn if Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger have anything to do with it.

The print: Paisley, as seen at Nanette Lepore, Milly by Michelle Smith and Matthew Williamson.

The song of the season: MIA’s Slumdog Millionaire track, ‘O... Saya.’

The drink of choice: Electrolyte-enhanced ‘Smart Water’, which I’ve been downing like it’s going out of fashion. Jennifer Aniston’s the poster girl for it over here, although, so far, there’s no sign of my hair getting more golden or anyone pitching me the lead role in an Emmy award-winning sitcom.

My New York must-have: Black leather riding boots. Seriously, I can do heels for about a day and a half and then I always, always, end up switching to flats.
