Meet the perfect basics that will make your wardrobe
The style staples you need in your life

In partnership with Amazon Fashion.
It’s that time of year again, where it’s out with the winter wardrobe (we’re not sorry to see the back of those black tights, let us tell you) and in with the fab new spring clothes.
But don’t fall at the first hurdle. While investing in a few choice trends is a great idea, the key to building the perfect spring wardrobe is investing in the style staples that’ll see you from season to season.
So we teamed up with Amazon Fashion to reveal the key items that need a starring role in your new-season wardrobe.
The 24 hour dress Make that dress work extra hard: the perfect style will take you from office to party without so much as a change of shoes. With that in mind, you can’t go wrong with a classic shirt dress. Go for a tailored striped style or a simple white shirt number.
The jeans update It’s official, skinny jeans are out. Instead, invest in some flared jeans (best worn with a pussy bow blouse or high neck top) or the ‘new’ boyfriend jean, a slouchy yet flattering style that is best rolled up at the ankle.

The wear everywhere boots Ankle boots are idea for that transition from winter to spring, and come in styles to suit all tastes. We love a pointy flat worn with frayed ankle grazers, and heeled tan boots are stunning worn with a floral midi dress.
The classic cool shirt Much like the shirt dress, the classic white shirt will never go out of style. But that’s not to say you can’t experiment with different cuts and styles. Try a sleeveless pussy bow shirt with some flared trousers, or a cropped one with a midi skirt.
The modern hoop earrings Hoop earrings are getting a makeover for spring. Forget delicate hoops, this is all about making a statement with oversized, geometric and embellished designs.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.
Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).
Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.
However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.
Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
