Marie Claire joined Holly Willoughby to hear about her hair and beauty habits, time saving tricks and being a blonde...

The Beauty Desk spent a morning with Holly Willoughby to get her take on all things hair and beauty. As the newest face of Garnier she has a lot to say on the subject; from time saving beauty tricks to colouring her own hair...

Holly on skincare...

‘I’m quite – I don’t know if the word is lazy – but everything needs to be quick. I can’t be doing the whole cleanse, tone and moisturiser thing, I just don’t have the time!

I always take my make-up off at night before I go to bed and as I’ve gotten older I have come to appreciate SPF more. Even on a cloudy day in winter there’s still enough UV to damage your skin. So I wear SPF every single day. I use Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector All-in-One B.B Cream (£9.99, boots.com), because it does in a single step. This BB does exactly what it says it does and, crucially, it makes my routine shorter.

I to drink a lot of water and when I do I notice a huge difference in my skin. And sleep! I get what I can but Harry woke me up at 5.30 this morning. At the moment, my life is all about speed and saving time.’

Holly on make-up...

‘I’m quite low-key but when I need to look a little more glamorous I’ll usually add a brighter lipstick – maybe a red. I like a matte lipstick and I love MAC reds. It’s so easy to add a red lip and be instantly ready to go out.

When it comes to make-up; I would never do too much of everything. On Celebrity Juice recently Fern and I did AbFab as Eddie and Patsy. We had everything; all the eye shadow, and lashes. It was fun for like five minutes but then it was just too much.’

‘I’m not very good at wearing things on my skin, even foundation, I just don’t like the feel of it. So my BB is my best bet, it literally just feels like I’m wearing a moisturiser. And little bit goes a long way; I put a small amount on the back of my hand and then press four dots of it onto my face and blend in.’

Holly on family...

‘I always say to my husband that he only ever gets to see the worst side of me. I have to wear make-up when I’m working so when I’m not I wear very little. I use a lash curler and that’s about it. I like to be able to see skin, even wrinkles and sun damage.’

‘My mum has never worn foundation. Ever. But I gave her the BB and she now uses it. Now I’m just trying to get her to colour her hair. She’s blonde too, and she has coloured mine so I’m trying to convince her to let me do hers. My mum’s beauty routine was very simple while I was growing up, I don’t remember a dressing table full of products and I’m the same. I would give the same advice to my daughter; to keep everything simple, drink water, sleep lots and wear sun protection. My kids are smothered in SPF.’

Holly on her idol...

‘I’ve always loved how Jennifer Aniston looks; bronzed and glowy. Her look is very simple, very ‘girl next door’. And, of course, Michelle Keegan! She has such great skin. She’s a Goddess.’

Holly on holiday prep...

‘When you have to pack for three kids and your husband (he’s my fourth child) you just don’t have time to go to the salon so you get good at doing everything yourself at home. Except waxing! I won’t do a bikini wax at home, that’s best left to a professional.’

‘The kit I travel with is very light; I’ll have my BB, YSL Babydoll mascara, some eyeliner (obviously) and Lucas Paw Paw ointment.’

Holly on being blonde

‘Until recently I just didn’t believe I could get the blonde that I want with an at-home hair colour. Also in the past I’ve found it too difficult to get the blonde right at home, blonde as a tendency to go too warm.

I’ve spent half my life in the hairdressers – it’s the bane of my life. Even when having a tint in salon I would have use double the tint to get the colour to lift enough but Garnier Nutrisse Crème, (£5.49, boots.com), lifts the colour even lighter than the salon. My shade is 10.01 Natural Baby Blonde.’
