In need of some plus size style inspiration? Look no further, as our columnist Rivkie Baum rounds up the best of the best
Instagram is now the style mecca for millions looking for up to the minute fashion inspiration.
The term ‘bloggers’ is being phased out as the keyboard powerhouses rebrand themselves as industry influencers, suggesting that this grassroots movement of fashionistas is far from over.
While we used to wait patiently for the show reports to be collated by journalists in our favourite magazines and newspapers, the digital age has without a doubt made fashion more accessible and it seems no sooner has a look made it down the runway, it is sashaying into stores.
Instagram is a great resource when looking for style ideas and within the plus size fashion arena it has been instrumental in allowing plus size women to see the brand offerings on body types that are more reflective of the consumer base. While plus size models start from a size 12-14 in the fashion industry, plus size brands are stocking product up to a size 32 and beyond and it is often hard for consumers to relate to the model they’re seeing on screen. Instagram has allowed for an explosion of plus size women to show their contemporaries just how the pieces on offer look and, more importantly, how to style them.
Here are our favourite plus size Instagram style icons that you need to follow right now.
1. Lottie L’amour @lottielamour
Lottie’s style is bold, fun and easy to wear. It never feels like she has tried too hard or is desperately trying to be on trend; she just is! Taking this season’s pieces and mixing them in with her existing favourites, Lottie also Snapchats her outfit before work, literally serving up fashion before breakfast. She will definitely help you to brighten up your wardrobe and move outside your comfort zone.
2. Nicolette Mason @nicolettemason
Major, style crush, alert! A fully fledged fashionista, Nicolette is not just an Instagram super star but a well-respected fashion columnist, stylist and brand consultant. There is a real fifties vibe to her aesthetic, but done in an up to the minute way. I like to think of Nicolette as the ultimate modern Pink Lady. Sandy Dee has nothing on Mason.
3. Isabell Decker @Dressingoutsidethebox
Uber feminine design is something often tagged onto plus size ranges as the general idea from brands have been to follow a pin-up style route. Plus size fashion is often talked about in terms of ‘creating an hour glass’, but, Dressing Outside the Box is a champion for those plus size women looking for a more tailored, androgynous style.
Sharp silhouettes, great tailoring and gorgeous shirting is part of Isabell’s DNA, and I love her refreshing style take for a plus size woman.
Amal Clooney’s back to work outfit is the stuff of our sartorial dreams
Melania Trump has been branded a hypocrite for her latest anti-bullying speech
Lady Gaga pens an emotional letter to her fans about the dark side of fame
The Ivy Soho Brasserie: Where the cool crowd goes to eat at London Fashion Week
4. Leah Vernon – @lvernon2000
Is absolutely crushing it in the style stakes. Teaming every look with a perfectly matched and poised headscarf. With a penchant for bright hues and breaking ‘the rules’, Leah also has an amazing collection of glasses and sunglasses that has left us with serious eyewear envy.
5. Chanel Ambrose @chanelambrose
Youtuber, content creator, MUA and cosmetics line owner, Chanel, has a pretty sweet Instagram platform too.
Chanel’s Instagram is full of this season’s hottest looks, from off the shoulder to bodycon to gorgeously bright prints. Chanel also has a head for heights – no heel is too high!
6. Chloe Elliott @chloeincurve_
We love blonde bombshell Chloe’s style. Not only is her hair and make-up on point, she also has a fab wardrobe to match. Pulling together all the season’s key items, Chloe’s Instagram is like a look book for what’s hot for the coming months, focussing on trend led pieces and how to style them into something that is fresh and current. No fashion victims here!
7. Ragini R @Kittehinfurs
Plus-size with a side serving of vintage is possibly the only way to describe Ragini’s style.
Taking modern day vintage inspired pieces and combining them with actual vintage finds. Expect pinafores, perfect floral prints and excellent headwear. All shot in a very cinematic manner.
