Lea Michele pays an emotional tribute to her late boyfriend Cory Monteith. Are you ready for it?

Lea Michele broke down in tears as she performed her emotional musical tribute to co-star boyfriend Cory Monteith in what has to be the most heartbreaking episode of Glee ever aired.

The 26-year-old actress said her touching on-screen goodbye to Cory's character Finn Hudson in Glee's tribute episode, The Quarterback, which aired in the US last night.

Lea's character Rachel Berry was seen returning to McKinley High to present a plaque for Finn at his memorial service before taking to the stage to perform a heart-wrenching rendition of Adele's Make You Feel My Love.

'I like to sing in the car and before Finn I used to sing alone. This was the first song that I sang with him when we would drive around together. So this is for him,' Lea's character Rachel told her friends before taking on the legendary song.

Tears flowed down her face as she struggled to get the final lyrics out, while Lea's fellow Glee cast members were seen crying and embracing one another in the Glee classroom.

Later on in the hour-long episode, the grieving singer opened up about her loss with group leader Mr Schue, played by Matthew Morrison.

'I talk to him a lot', Lea's character Rachel said. 'I can still see his face. I can hear his voice so clearly. Do you think I'll ever forget it? Because I'm afraid that one day I will.'

The long-awaited tribute episode was a fitting farewell to Cory, who passed away from lethal combination of heroin and alcohol on July 13, and ended with the words 'Cory Monteith 1982-2013' flashing across the screen.

We've no doubt this is one Glee performance that won't be forgotten in a hurry, as it allowed us a true glimpse of Rachel as real-life Lea as both character and actress grieved for the tragic loss of their love.
