Director Gia Milani revealed that the actor saw the film just weeks before his death, and 'loved' the result.

'Cory saw the film a few weeks [before his death],' she said in a statement to EW.com.

'He said he loved how layered it was and he thought it was intense. He loved Finn [his character on 'Glee'] and always talked about how blessed he felt to have been cast in 'Glee,' but like any artist, he wanted to play other roles too. I think he wanted to prove to himself he could do more.

'And he did prove it. When I last saw him at the screening, he looked super fit, had a lot of energy. I think that’s why this is such a tremendous shock. He seemed to be doing so well.'

Yesterday, Lea Michele shared a photo of her first day back at work on the Glee set, as she prepares to film a tribute episode after Cory Monteith's tragic death.

Taking to Twitter as she prepared to step back into Rachel Berry's shoes, the actress shared a forlorn photo of her first day filming.

The snap shows Lea sitting at the end of the bed in an empty room. It was captioned: 'Feels so good to be home... #GleeSeason5'.

As the rest of the cast returned to begin work on the delayed Glee Series 5, a source close to the show told Hollywood life the feel on set was 'very somber,' but added: 'everyone is happy to be with one another.'

It's thought there were grief counsellors on hand during the day.
