While the Duchess of Cambridge is in labour at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, Prince Charles is continuing with his royal duties in York

Kate Middleton might be in labour in the Lindo Wing as we speak, but the rest of the royal family are continuing to go about their daily business.

Prince Charles is currently on a visit to the National Railway Museum in York, where he's being grilled by reporters for news of Duchess Kate's progress.

When asked by Sky News for an update on the royal baby on his arrival at the museum, he replied: 'No news yet'. He was then asked by a well-wisher if he'd heard from St Mary's Hospital at all, to which he responded: 'Absolutely nothing at the moment – we're waiting.'

Prince Charles was then given a gift for his first grandchild by a young boy called Freddie. He handed over the item and as Prince Charles accepted it, he said: 'The baby hasn't quite appeared yet.'

Freddie's mum added: 'He thinks the baby is going to appear in six hours time.' Prince Charles replied: 'You might be right!'

We could have a royal heir by tea time, ladies.

Kate Middleton was driven from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital at 5.30am this morning. News of her arrival was broken on Twitter by a paparazzi photographer from Ikon Pictures, who saw the Duchess arrive with Prince William, a police convoy and their security via a back entrance.

Their private secretaries Miguel Head and Rebecca Deacon are staying at the hospital with them until the baby arrives. It's not known if any members of the royal family will visit Kate, William and the royal baby at the hospital. The Queen is at Windsor Castle but will return to Buckingham Palace later this afternoon, while Prince Harry is on duty at RAF Wattisham in Suffolk.

We'll know that the royal baby has arrived when a car carrying the all-important birth notice for the Buckingham Palace easel will set off from the Lindo Wing.

Prince Charles isn't the only one desperately awaiting news. David Cameron said today that it's a 'very exciting occasion' and that 'everyone's hoping for the best'.

We'll bring you news of the royal baby's arrival as soon as we hear from the Palace...
