After two successful series as a coach on the BBC show, Jessie J has announced today that she's quit – find out why

Jessie J has confirmed that she won't be returning to BBC's The Voice for a third series.

The singer made the shock announcement on her Twitter page this morning, saying: 'I've absolutely loved my time on The Voice and I hope everyone knows how passionately I felt about the show.

'However, I can't wait to promote my new record around the world and that has to take priority. I shall be keeping a very close eye on series 3 showing my support in every way I can and really hope that in some way I can be part of the show.'

It's not been confirmed whether Jessie J's fellow judges – Danny O'Donoghue, Tom Jones and Will.i.am – who have all been on board since series three – will return. Danny's act Andrea Begley was crowned winner of the second series last month.

Mark Linsey, BBC controller of entertainment commissioning, said: 'We're so sorry to see Jessie go as she's been an exceptional coach on – and advocate for – The Voice, but we totally support her decision to leave due to touring commitments overseas.'

Jessie J's surprise exit comes days after Elton John slammed the series for being too focused on the judges. He said in an interview with BBC Radio 4 this week: The Voice is all about watching the judges, it is in America. Nobody on The Voice in America has had a hit record. They're nonentities.'

Ouch. Paddy Power is now offering odds of 5/2 on Cheryl Cole replacing Jessie J. We'll miss you, Jessie...
