Nick Grimshaw has been named as the new breakfast show host on Radio 1, following this morning's announcement that Chris Moyles is stepping down.

The Radio 1 late evening DJ and T4 presenter, Nick, also known as Grimmy, will take over from Chris Moyles when he leaves the breakfast slot, after over eight year, in September.

Speaking about his new show Nick said: 'I'm super excited to be hosting the iconic Radio 1 Breakfast Show, it’s been a dream of mine since the age of 11 and to be honest it hasn't really sunk in yet. I love Chris and have always looked up to him as one of the best broadcasters ever.'

The appointment of 27-year-old Grimshaw may be a surprise for some listeners who thought Greg James, who currently does the 4-7pm drivetime slot, was sure to take over from Moyles.

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said: 'Nick is a great broadcaster with a passion for music and a mischievous sense of humour, which has made him a hit with our listeners. He will be an excellent host for Radio 1’s new breakfast show, bringing a new generation of listeners with him.'

Congrats to Grimmy and best of luck to Chris and the team - we will miss you!
