Miranda Kerr looks like she’s been frozen in time, blessed with skin that would make any twenty something green with envy. At a health and wellness conference hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow’s website Goop, the 34 year old supermodel was interviewed by Gwyneth about her beauty secrets - which include leech facials.

When Miranda revealed that she had tried the treatment, everyone was taken aback.

Miranda explained to the stunned Goop audience, ‘It’s adventurous. Health is wealth. They’ve been doing leech therapy for thousands of years.’

What is a leech facial?

This treatment isn’t for the faint of heart. Live leeches are placed on your face to feed, then the blood they consume is smeared over the skin like a face mask. It supposedly helps tighten skin and leaves you looking younger. (If leech facials aren't your thing, why not take Powder's quiz to find the best face mask for your skin type.)

One of the drawbacks of the treatment is that leeches can’t be reused due to hygiene reasons. While they are usually killed following the facial, Miranda decided to take them home with her instead. The mother of one, who recently married Evan Spiegel, didn’t reveal whether or not her new beau had any opinions on her unconventional housemates.

‘I kept the leeches, they’re in my koi pond. You’re not allowed to reuse them and if you don’t take them home then she kills them and I didn’t like that idea,’ Miranda said.

Gwyneth Paltrow - a woman who’s tried everything from vaginal steaming to jade eggs - told her, ‘Wow. I thought I was batshit crazy.’
