The Met Gala 2023 promises to be the fashion extravaganza we've come to know and love this evening.

Both the theme and the hosts have been revealed, and it's an understatement to say it's going to be fabulous. Here's everything we know so far.

What is the Met Gala 2023 theme?

And this year's theme is...Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, it's a continuation of the 'A Line of Beauty' exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The theme centers on the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who made an indelible mark on luxury fashion in his long career at Chanel, Fendi and elsewhere. It is a theme not without controversy—Lagerfeld was known for contentious remarks about everything from #MeToo to curvy bodies.

In September, we saw an ode to American designers and trends - let us not forget Kim Kardashian's all-in-one t-shirt—and we're expecting more of this on the Met Gala red carpet this May, and perhaps even some vintage-inspired looks..

When is the Met Gala 2023?

The Met Gala always takes place on the first Monday of May. This year, this falls on Monday 1st May 2023 and starts at 11pm UK time.

Who will host the Met Gala 2023?

Expect a ceremony full of sass and incredible fashion, because it has been announced that the 2023 MET Gala will be co-hosted by Dua Lipa, Penelope Cruz, Roger Federer and Michaela Coel.

They join Vogue’s Anna Wintour who always hosts the best night in fashion.

How to watch the Met Gala 2023 in UK?

The Met Gala 2023 red carpet will air via the Vogue live stream from 11 pm UK time.

For those wishing to stay up to check out the fabulous outfits and celebrity guests, you can live stream the red carpet through Vogue's social channels too, and we will be updating you every hour on the best Met 2023 red carpet looks here.

Can you watch the Met Gala in person?

If you're in NYC you can attempt to see the action from the red carpet (read: huddled in crowds across the street with A LOT of people in front of you) but honestly when you can stream directly to your phone from the comfort of your sofa, why would want to?

It used to be called the Costume Institute Gala

Fun fashion fact for you there. The gala’s been going since 1946, which makes this year’s party the 72nd annual event. How will the fashion elite celebrate? With bolder hairdos, flashier jewels and even more enormous couture ensembles than ever before, we’d guess.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
