Announcing your baby joy to the world is surely one of the most exciting parts of a pregnancy. But beyond just giving their mums a call, these pregnant celebrities are using the moment to make some bold and beautiful statements about motherhood, art, the female form… and some are even taking on the paparazzi. Here are some of our favourite big announcements ever…

Alanis Morissette

Anne Hathaway In 2015, when Anne Hathaway caught the paparazzi trying to take unauthorized bikini photos of her on a private beach, the pregnant star took matters into her own hands. ‘I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy (and be one that was taken with my consent. And with a filter :)’ she wrote on her Instagram alongside this stunning snap.

Coco Rocha The model’s conceptual 2015 video clip sees her stand on a pedestal in a nude leotard, while a camera pans around her body. At the end, the camera focuses on her stomach and, much like a fashion advertising campaign, text appears to tell us when the baby will be arriving.

Behati Prinsloo Some, like Behati Prinsloo, just love a good old fashioned pregnancy shoot. Here she is modeling her favourite maternity jeans for photographer Jerome Duran’s lens.

Beyoncé

Demi Moore And how could we not mention the one who started the pregnancy photo trend, Demi Moore? The 1991 cover of Vanity Fair in which the actress, who was seven months pregnant, posed for Annie Leibovitz’s lens, is one of the most iconic magazine images of all time and has been copied hundreds of times around the world. There had never been a candid, pregnant ‘sex symbol’ like it in the media and really, we'd say, no one has topped it since.
