“I want nothing more than for the bride—my friend—to be happy, but the thought of messing this up is keeping me awake at night,” says *Carla, a thirty-something content creator tasked with turning her friend’s wedding footage into a suite of reels and carousel posts she hopes will jump-start her influencer career.

What began as a single two-minute video quickly snowballed into two five-minute edits, then five to ten additional reels. “She asked me to give this to her as my wedding gift,” Carla says—on top of travelling and spending more than £1,000 to attend.

Carla is far from alone. Increasingly, the role of wedding guest comes with an unspoken add-on: content production. “Guests are now part of the content engine,” says Reneille Velez, founder of Gian Events, a luxury event planning and travel design agency. “There’s an immediate reaction of ‘I have to post this’ before the moment even settles.”

The blurring of celebration and content creation isn’t limited to guests, either. Just last week, Binky Felstead faced criticism after an illustrator claimed she’d been asked to create wedding designs free of charge in exchange for “exposure” on social media. In today’s frenzied wedding economy, worth a cool £14.7 billion annually in the UK alone, visibility is increasingly positioned as currency.

Perhaps no clearer example of this is the 2022 Dolce & Gabbana–branded nuptials of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker—a trilogy of ceremonies staged across Nevada, California and the Italian Riviera. And yet even the Kardashians weren’t the first at this game. When Victoria and David Beckham sold exclusive rights to their wedding photos for £1 million, the hoopla was tightly controlled, professionally produced, and highly lucrative. Today, that process has filtered down; only now, the production is decentralised, and often unpaid.​

You don’t need a fashion house or a magazine deal to produce a wedding that looks like a campaign. You just need a camera roll, a content plan, and a guest list happy, or at least, willing to play along.

And increasingly, that’s exactly what a wedding demands.

Even the timeline of the day can start to resemble a shot list. “Couples are thinking about angles, lighting, and timing in a way that mirrors a production set,” Velez adds. “Moments become scenes.” QR-code platforms allow guests to upload photos in real time to shared galleries, while hired content creators capture behind-the-scenes footage designed for immediate posting. “A wedding is no longer just a private celebration—it’s a visual experience designed to be shared,” says planner Victoria Morris.

“I’m always happy to take photos,” Carla says. “But being in charge of the wedding video—and the edits—is very stressful.” It’s a dynamic many millennial women will recognise: somewhere between guest, bridesmaid, and unpaid production manager.

Weddings have always had a fairly performative element, cycling through the same acts: the aisle walk, the first dance, the cake-cutting. But increasingly, they’re being produced like campaigns, complete with creative direction, visual strategy, and built-in distribution.

The numbers only partially capture it. According to Hitched, 7% of UK couples now hire a dedicated content creator, while nearly a third spend over 18 months planning their weddings. Guests, too, are part of the equation: the average attendee takes 167 photos, with more than half admitting they’ve missed key moments while trying to capture them. According to research from Three, 43% of Gen Z say they are creating content to boost their own social media presence.

“I was at a wedding recently and couldn’t believe that more than one guest used it as a backdrop for their own content,” says *Emma, 27. “I checked their accounts afterwards, and there was no mention of the bride and groom; it was as if they were there just to get content.” Another guest recalls bridesmaids changing out of gowns—paid for by the bride’s family—to take their own photos under the flower arch. I appreciate a photo op as much as the next Millennial, but is this really how we want to be treating our friends?

Whether we like it or not, the reality is that most modern weddings have expanded beyond the day; it lives on feeds, in reels, and across group chats, like one long, ongoing piece of content.

Outfit changes are increasingly common, with some brides opting for multiple looks across the day to create distinct visual moments. “The word ‘editorial’ comes up constantly,” says Cat da Silva of The Bridal Edition. “Brides are thinking about how their wedding looks come together cohesively in the content they’re planning to capture and share.”

“We’re seeing a lot of brides using a ‘will it go viral?’ mindset,” says Leila Lewis, a wedding PR who works with content creators, pointing to the rise of photo booths, backdrops, customised “merch” and late-night fireworks; moments designed to generate content. It’s not enough to host a wedding; couples are expected to set a scene.

Katherine Rose Woller was 32 when she called off her wedding just weeks before the ceremony. “On social media, everything looked perfect,” she recalls. “But underneath it, the weight of expectations was pushing me toward something I didn’t actually want.” What began as a personal commitment had, she says, started to feel more like “a content production” she was responsible for.

But while the results can be visually spectacular, the line between sophistication and performance can blur, leaving guests feeling like unpaid stagehands. Who here hasn’t at one time or another been tasked with corralling drunk guests to visit the Polaroid station or make use of the artfully displayed disposable cameras?

“When a bride chooses her look based on how it will photograph, rather than how it makes her feel, something gets lost,” says Megan of Grace Loves Lace. “The content captures the moment, but it can’t capture what it felt like.”

That tension can course through the entire day’s or days' event. Guests document rather than experience; the couple anticipates the audience—the ones present and the more still who’ll only experience it through other people’s content. Vendors have to navigate the competing priorities of creating an experience and also capturing it.

Photographer Libby Clark has seen ceremonies delayed so vendors can film content. “Everyone wants their 15 seconds of Reel,” she says, “but it can come at the couple’s expense.”

The modern wedding may only be experienced once in real time, but it can be replayed endlessly—and increasingly, the second version shapes the first. It’s still a wedding, it just comes with a content strategy.

Astrology is becoming the latest addition to the wedding planning checklist, promising meaning, alignment and the “perfect” date. And after internet sleuths speculated that Dua Lipa may have timed her recent wedding by the stars—or, more specifically, the Blue Moon—the trend has never felt more mainstream. But as couples increasingly look to the cosmos for answers, Mischa Smith asks: is this a genuine ritual, or simply another way to optimise an already over-engineered day?

When Dua Lipa married Callum Turner in Marylebone Town Hall on Sunday, astrology accounts wasted no time analysing the date. Within hours, social media was awash with theories that the singer may have used electional astrology—the practice of choosing auspicious moments for major life events—to plan her wedding. There is no evidence that she did, but the speed with which the internet began searching for signs of cosmic timing was revealing. Astrology has become so culturally embedded that major milestones are now regularly interpreted through an astrological lens.

That shift extends far beyond celebrity weddings, too. Once considered a niche spiritual practice, astrology is increasingly being folded into the wedding planning process itself. Couples are consulting astrologers to choose dates, times and even locations for their ceremonies, hoping to imbue the day with meaning, alignment and, perhaps, a little extra luck. In an era of rising costs, endless choice and Pinterest-perfect expectations, the promise of cosmic certainty can be difficult to resist.

When one couple began planning their Ibizan wedding, they weren’t just thinking about the venue or the guest list; they were thinking about the energy. Working with astrologer Clarisse Monahan, they set out to create what Monahan describes as “a raucous wedding”, building the day around “a lot of fire energy” and an emphasis on excess. Set on a Balearic island already synonymous with indulgence—and with one of the couple’s Jupiter lines coursing straight through it—the wedding chart (an astrological “birth chart” for a marriage, not to be confused with the more traditional wedding seating chart) leaned into that atmosphere. “Very showy and over the top”, recalls Monahan, with the focus less on tradition or stability, but instead on spectacle and pleasure.

Where ceremonies were once defined by religion, and more recently by aesthetics—the perfect tablescape, photo moments, those all-too-ubiquitous namesake cocktails—they are now being treated as moments that need to carry cosmic meaning. Weddings today don’t just have to look good; they have to feel good, too.

For a growing number of couples, that feeling is being shaped by astrology. “Couples spend so much on their wedding anyway,” says Monahan. “So it makes sense to want to have the ideal time to do it.” Neda Farr, whose astrology-led relationship reels have racked up 170 million views on TikTok alone, has seen a similar shift: where clients once asked when they might get engaged, they’re now asking when to marry, and how to make sure “nothing is working against them” when they do.

Of course, none of this is entirely new. Astrology has long shaped wedding timing in places like India, where muhurats—auspicious times—are traditionally used to determine when a couple should marry. What’s changed is the framing, especially for Western couples who are navigating an ecosystem of abundant choice, pressure and personalisation rather than utilising inherited rituals.

If astrology is finding new relevance in weddings, it’s not happening in a vacuum. The modern wedding is an unusually high-stakes event: financially costly and often logistically fraught. Couples are expected not only to host, but to produce something memorable: an experience that feels seamless, unique, and increasingly, shareable. When a single day can cost tens of thousands—the average UK wedding costs £21,990—the pressure for it to be meaningful, if not perfect, is difficult to ignore.

At the same time, personalisation has become its own form of cultural currency. To choose well is no longer a private act. Weddings have always functioned as a form of social signalling, a way of demonstrating taste and discernment; yet where once that might have been reserved for the day alone and the guests present, today they live online forever.

Increasingly, weddings are being planned for how they will be seen, shared, and, in some cases, validated by external arbiters of taste. In a culture that rewards individuality, even individuality begins to look formulaic against a backdrop of hyper-curated aesthetics. Astrology, in that context, doesn’t just offer meaning, it offers a way of explaining why this date, why this location.

“I think what people want is an alignment,” says Chani Nicholas, an astrologer and New York Times best-selling author. “Astrology is not about control… it’s about meaning.” To choose a date under “good omens”, she suggests, is less about predicting the future than it is about creating a moment that feels intentional, and, above all, right.

Faced with an overwhelming number of decisions, couples are looking for ways to narrow the field. “A lot of the time, just knowing you’ve picked a good electional (date) gives you a sense of confidence,” says Monahan. “It makes you more thoughtful.” Rather than dictating every detail, astrology becomes a way of approaching those decisions with a degree of certainty, however provisional.

But astrology doesn’t actually give couples control, at least not in the way they might hope. Most arrive at it late in the process, after the major decisions have already been made: the venue booked, the Saturday secured. “Most of the time it’s like, ‘We’re getting married on this day—can you tell me the best time within that?’” says Nicholas. “You’re working within a lot of constraints.”

Then there are the exceptions where astrology doesn’t just guide the wedding, it structures it. Neda describes clients seeking “the perfect step-by-step” timeline: when to schedule beauty treatments, when to shop for a dress, when to get married. Rather than a single auspicious date, the process becomes a carousel of optimised decisions. “There are usually three good windows,” she says, “and one perfect window.” Whether that alignment has any measurable effect is, of course, harder to prove, but its emotional appeal is undeniable.

Astrology’s growing role in weddings is also a product of how widely it now circulates. Once the preserve of specialists, it’s become part of our daily language, delivered through apps like Co–Star and an endless stream of TikTok explainers. “People are learning tidbits of astrology… in slideshow form,” says Neda, often distilled into insights that feel immediate and personal.

That mainstreaming is also clear in how quickly astrology has been absorbed into the wedding industry itself. Sites like The Knot now publish guides to “lucky” wedding dates, while Brides offers zodiac-based advice on the best time of year to marry. Even dating apps are following suit: Tinder has introduced an “astrology mode”, using birth chart data to shape matches. According to insight analysts at TrendHunter, this signals a broader shift towards “hyper-personalised compatibility scoring”, where identity, rather than behaviour, becomes the basis for recommendation.

Taken together, it suggests a shift in how astrology is being used. What was once a reflective practice is increasingly packaged as a service: something you can use to optimise almost every aspect of your life. As Monahan cautions, that can flatten it into something reductive. “People are still reading for their sun sign,” she notes, a shorthand that risks oversimplifying a much more complex system. In that sense, astrology’s rise is not just about belief, but about how it fits into a culture already geared towards personalisation. The promise, then, isn’t just meaning, but a version of it tailored and sold precisely to you.

That desire for an entirely personalised experience reaches a fever pitch when it comes to weddings. Monahan describes working with a bride determined to create a fully Disney-themed wedding: dress, setting, atmosphere and all. To match that vision, the chart was built around Neptune, the planet associated with dreams, fantasy and illusion. “Disney for me is so Neptunian,” she explains, describing how the couple chose a date where those qualities would be most pronounced, with the aim of creating something “ethereal” and immersive.

It’s not Monahan’s typical wedding chart experience, but it is a telling one. In a culture increasingly oriented around individual expression, the pressure to avoid anything that feels ‘cookie cutter’ has intensified. Weddings aren’t only expected to be beautiful; they’re expected to be distinct. Astrology offers that.

For some, the question goes beyond timing altogether. Around a quarter of Neda’s clients, she says, are seeking reassurance that they’re marrying the right person in the first place. “They want to make sure that they’re cosmically aligned with that person they’re marrying,” she explains.

Astrology, of course, doesn’t remove all uncertainty. “You always have to beware—you might get the answer that you don’t want,” says Nicholas. And even the most carefully constructed chart, like the Ibizan wedding engineered for excess, can only help guide the mood, not the outcome. But for an industry increasingly shaped by pressure, cost and expectation, astrology offers something else: the feeling, however fleeting, that the moment has landed exactly where it was meant to.

I’m ashamed to admit that, having attended countless weddings over the years, I’ve become something of a lazy guest. Not in spirit, of course—but when it comes to my outfits. Faced with a calendar increasingly chock-full of nuptials, I’ve tended to default to the easiest possible solution: a “one and done” dress that requires minimal thought, yet does the job every time.

If you, like me, favour ease when it comes to wedding guest dressing, a jazzy trouser set is an excellent solution. Alémais is always my go-to for these, as it balances fabulous prints with breezy silhouettes, oozing an effortless chic vibe that Aussies do so well. The best sets are those that you know you'll wear separately, too: I'd pair this open-back top with jeans and flip flops, and the trousers with a plain white tank and sandals for more casual occasions.

The Monochrome Moment

Minimalists, this one's for you! Audrey Hepburn meets Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in this pared-back black-and-white look, that is as simple as it is timelessly elegant. Opting for cotton and linen materials will help keep you cool in the height of summer, while strappy leather heels and sculptural earrings add a sense of occasion.

The Elegant Jumpsuit

Can't quite resist the allure of a single-item look? Understandable, but change things up with a jumpsuit instead. If a linen suit is a man's summer wedding go-to, there's no reason it can't be ours, too. Go mildly oversized, opt for a seasonal colour and pair with a lace-trim cami—then add heels and fabulous accessories to amp up the glamour.

Sofia Richie wore three custom Chanel wedding dresses, Hailey Bieber opted for a trio by Virgil Abloh, Ralph & Russo and Vera Wang—the latter paired with trainers for a turn on the dancefloor—and Jennifer Lopez looked to Ralph Lauren for three custom white gowns. Proof, if it were needed, that three is far from a crowd when it comes to wedding dresses.

And the numbers back it up, too. According to wedding specialists The Knot, wedding dresses are the most common expense among soon-to-be-wed couples, with 91% spending on a new dress compared to 76% on a cake and just 59% on a florist. Choosing what to wear is no small undertaking.

Anna Vesty, founder and creative director of Unbridled Studio, has witnessed this shift from one standout gown to a carefully considered handful first-hand. "A large proportion of brides who come to us want the opportunity to have some form of look transformation throughout the day," she tells me. "Sometimes this means a dramatic transition: a grand silhouette with volume for the ceremony, a more pared-back column gown for dinner, and a mini for the evening."

Ally Voss, founder of Clover London, echoes this. Brides who opt for three dresses, she explains, often want their look to evolve across a long wedding day. The ceremony, reception and evening each offering a distinct moment while still following a cohesive theme.

"Brides want to show different sides of their personality throughout the day rather than committing to one look. It’s much more about building a “wedding wardrobe” and enjoying the process" adds Georgie Le Roux, founder of Gigi & Olive. "It also gives brides the freedom to experiment a bit more, whether that’s with vintage pieces, tailoring or statement accessories, without feeling like they’re compromising. It just makes the whole day feel more personal and fun.”

More looks, however, means more budget. And when a wedding dress is generally worn just once, the cost-per-wear argument that justifies a new designer handbag or pair of shoes goes firmly out of the window. So, alongside searching for the perfect gowns, it's worth thinking about how to approach the three-dress edit a little more consciously.

Three different looks doesn't have to mean three entirely different dresses. "Smaller, subtler changes still make an impact," explains Vesty, "like layering on a transformative silk top or removing a statement skirt to reveal a satin slip dress underneath." Jackets, veils and gloves can also go a long way to creating distinct looks around the same base.

If you are after three separate dresses, it's wise to opt for at least one you could wear again—whether that's a versatile midi like those from Rixo, or a style that would look equally chic in a different colour or shorter length. For registry offices or town hall weddings, she advises keeping things clean and contemporary, leaning into the unfussy nature of the location. Worth noting too: if you're planning street photography, a long train can be frustrating—and is unlikely to stay pristine.

"When thinking about your location, I know it might sound boring, but I always like to think practical. My go-to work uniform is... Wide-leg trousers with a button-up Oxford shirt and pair of pumps. I am with brides most days so I want to look put together, but on the other hand I walk to and from the studio pushing a pram and spend most bridal appointments on the floor pinning gowns, so comfort is also key. My wardrobe is oversized, classic, and all in a similar tonal colour palette to help make getting dressed easier. I love the high street (COS and H&M) paired with more investment pieces like my LouLou Studio coat and well-loved (old) Celine tote.

My office essentials are... Deliciously Ella oat bars, a giant water bottle and my AirPods with music pulsing through my ears.

My favourite evening ritual is... A hot shower followed by a good lather of Necessaire Lotion in Olibanum—after I've done dinner, bath and bed for my toddler and cleaned up 100 Magnatiles, that is. I get into bed at 9pm with my bulldog Gus and shamelessly scroll TikTok while my husband watches football.

The idea for Clover London came when... I was a bride back in 2017, and most boutique offerings were quite traditional. As a 20-something bride, nothing really resonated with me. I wanted a gown that felt understated and contemporary but there was a very limited selection available. I thought I couldn't be alone in feeling that way, and so Clover was born.

I love classic shapes and those are really the foundation of our silhouettes... My brides also inspire me, since I am with them most days. Our conversations shape so much of what I put into our designs. Lastly, I love fabric shopping—because all our gowns are silk, I am really inspired by a fabric's movement and drape and want to showcase that at its best.

The best thing about my job is... The brides—they are truly the best. I am so lucky to work with so many incredible women. Also, as a working mum, the flexibility of running my own business is something I will never take for granted.

The advice I always give to my bridal clients is... First, think realistically about your budget and let it steer your ship. Then, think of the wedding day setting and look for something that fits the vibe. Thirdly, if there is a certain dress shape that makes you feel amazing, start there—chances are it is a good jumping-off point for inspiring your bridal look, but a new silhouette can always take you by surprise.

The biggest pinch-me moment so far was... Getting press coverage the month we launched. It really helped give me the confidence that Clover might really become something. Some of those same features still drive traffic to the site today, which really blows my mind.

Before Clover, I worked in beauty PR for over a decade... My first big-girl job was at Tom Ford for Estée Lauder Companies. I will always be grateful for my time there and how many doors it opened for me.

I launched Clover from my living room five years ago while still working full time... When we were established enough, I left my corporate role to focus on the business completely. That transition, from side hustle to brand, is probably the biggest evolution we've had to date.

The most important lesson I've learned is... It can be tough—actually, it WILL be tough—but you are tougher than you think you are.

Recently, I've been working on... Our 2026 collection, which just launched and is our biggest to date with 15 pieces. I am also having my second baby in late spring so currently mapping out my maternity leave with my incredibly supportive team.

As for what's next? After the 2026 busy bridal season, we will start working on Clover 2027 and exploring options for expanding the studio—we are most definitely running out of space!

So, I made my way to the brand's London boutique on Mount Street and decided to put its best-selling styles to the test. Paying close attention to the fit, print, and comfort level, I focused on the brand's best-selling styles, including the infamous Gaia long-sleeve maxi and the viral Jamie polka dot mini.

The Gia

Arguably one of the brand's most popular styles, the Gia has been at the top of my wish list for many months now. Featuring bell sleeves and a maxi length silhouette, it's the ultimate wedding guest dress.

Pros: Of course, I opted to try its infamous red Havana colourway and was amazed at how seamlessly it complemented my hair and skin tone. The dress felt easy and soft to slip on, and even though it didn't have a lining, I didn't feel it was sheer enough to warrant adding one. Another bonus I found is that this style comes in seven different colours, catering to both maximalists and minimalists.

Cons: I stand at 5'4" and opted for a size medium, so I did feel like it was a tad too long without heels on. Nevertheless, it was the perfect size with a little bit of added height. Additionally, the bell sleeves do brush past the fingertips giving it a 70's billowing blouse feel for those who aren't fond of that style.

The Isabelli

Even though Réalisation Par's maxi and midi lengths reign supreme, their mini dresses are also unmatched in style. The Isabelli is the ultimate short summer dress to pair with heels, flats, or chunky boots for the continuation of festival season.

Pros: I opted for a size medium in this dress, and it instantly felt really flattering. The A-line silhouette makes for a comfortable everyday fit that doesn't feel too snug, especially as it features a tie at the waist that allows you to adjust to your preference.

Cons: I have a medium-sized chest and usually avoid V-cuts, as I don't find them always flattering. While I didn't see this as a problem with this dress and found it very well-fitting, I wouldn't feel completely comfortable wearing it to any event and risking a potential wardrobe malfunction.

The Esmé

Looking for a more formal wedding guest dress? Look no further than this number. Coming in a timeless slip dress silhouette, it features a delicate ruffle trim at the neckline, evoking a '70s French boudoir chic look.

Pros: I instantly fell in love with this dress, so much so that I decided to wear it to a wedding the next day, and I can confirm that I received many compliments. Opting for a size medium as well, the hemline didn't feel too long or short for my frame. It's definitely a style I have worn time and time again this summer, and I'm already eyeing its other two colourways.

Cons: This dress is very sheer and lacks a lining. Perfect for those looking to tap into the sheer dressing trend this season, as it can be easily paired with your choice of undergarments. However, if this isn't your desired approach, I would strongly recommend pairing it with a slip, although this incurs an extra cost.

The Sadie

The Sadie has slowly but surely taken over my TikTok For You page as one of this season's most coveted dresses. With its midi silhouette and halterneck cut, the fashion set has been spotted (no pun intended) wearing the polka-dot dress everywhere from summer soirées to Euro-summer activities.

Pros: As soon as I put it on, I understood why the cool girls are wearing it everywhere. It's incredibly comfortable and visibly made with practicality in mind. It's made with opaque silk, which means there's no need to wear a slip under, and its halterneck cut also allows for an adjustable tie at the neck.

Cons: I was overall really pleased with this dress and would love to see it in more colourways.

The Jamie

Seamlessly merging two of summer's biggest dress trends into one: polka dots and lace slip dresses. The Jamie is a romantic option for an everyday dress that instantly looks put together. Simply add a pair of kitten heels and a sleek handbag, and you're all set.

Pros: By far one of the brand's funnest styles, this dress comes in three different colourways with various prints and contrasting colours, including a playful leopard print paired with electric blue lace. It comes fully lined, so there's no need to worry about adding a slip or wearing nude underwear.

Cons: I would definitely suggest going a size larger in this style if you have a bigger bust, as the camisole cut at the chest is quite deep.

Sometimes it is the simplest of styling tweaks that truly maketh the look. Case in point for summer 2025 is the skinny scarf, which street style stars and A-listers alike have been using to elevate their eveningwear. Whether it’s Leighton Meester pairing her strapless Elie Saab gown with a complementary black scarf at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in April, or Rosie Huntington-Whiteley accessorising her white suit with a matching scarf at the same designer’s show in January, skinny scarves are everywhere.

It’s a look that has its origins in Diana, Princess of Wales lore—as so many style myths do. Back in 1987, the princess attended the Cannes Film Festival wearing a pale blue Catherine Walker strapless dress, which she accessorised with a long scarf from the same fabric. Possibly an attempt to lessen the risqué-ness of a shoulder-baring look, it was reportedly inspired by yet another famous royal fashion moment—when Grace Kelly, then still an actress, wore a similar style for To Catch A Thief.

Fast-forward to 2023, and stars like Laura Harrier and Elle Fanning were referencing the look during their own La Croisette appearances, with the style slowly filtering down to this year’s Award Season red carpet, when Meester and Mikey Madison both accessorised with a skinny scarf of their own.

For stylist Serena Crawley, it’s easy to see why the long scarf is so popular right now. “Long silk scarves offer real versatility and elegance,” she says. “They’re also incredibly practical. For example, if you’re attending a formal event like a church wedding and want to add a touch of modesty without resorting to a jacket or cardigan in the heat, a long silk scarf is a stylish solution. Then, when the party starts, whip it off and tie it in your hair or around your wrist.”

One brand which has become a go-to for skinny scarves is Rixo, that first started making its vintage-inspired versions a few seasons ago following customer demand. “We first started using old cuttings and tying them around the neck on shoots to create our mixed print looks,” explains co-founder Orlagh McCloskey.

“We had so many customers asking for scarves that we decided to launch our first one, Alexa. From there we have built out different shapes and sizes to wear multiple ways—as a top, in our hair and around our bags. They really help create a look and can make your outfit feel quite different with an easy accessory. We now have our Nara, Julien and Yelina styles in a range of different prints.”

Scarves are also a major bridal trend this year. As wedding dresses become more minimalist and streamlined, modern brides are choosing to elevate their look by adding a timeless accessory that provides a little bit of drama.

“Bridal scarves are having a major renaissance,” shares Ally Voss, founder of bridalwear brand Clover London. “They are the perfect accessory to throw on over a bare décolletage that can completely transform a bridal look. Our Aster style is in a light crinkle chiffon, which adds a touch of texture that I love against the solid silk of coarse gowns.”

So, how to wear one yourself? “The most effortless way to look chic is to perfectly match the colour of your scarf to your outfit,” says Crawley. “This monochromatic approach feels timeless and polished. For a slightly more elevated look, choose a scarf in the same colour family but a different shade—think a tonal ombré of blues or oranges. This will add depth and interest to your outfit while still looking cohesive. Feeling bold? Mix and match prints. The key is to echo at least one colour from your outfit in the scarf. This tiny detail helps pull the whole look together, creating intentionality and connection.”

In terms of how you tie it, there are endless options. “For a classic eveningwear look, drape your scarf across your collarbone and let it fall dramatically down your back,” suggests Crawley. “This creates an open space on your décolletage that feels surprisingly fresh and modern—especially when worn with a strapless dress. When wearing a halter-neck dress, try tying the scarf in a small knot or bow at the back of your neck, letting the length of the scarf trail down your back. By doing this, you won’t disrupt the shape of the halter, which can look messy if you wear the scarf in the more traditional way.”

What’s more, you can also use your scarf as a clever styling hack if you're self-conscious about your tummy. “Simply wrap the scarf around your neck with one end hanging down the back and the other down the front,” shares Crawley. “The soft, vertical line visually breaks up the torso and adds a subtle layer of coverage.”

And you don’t even need to buy a scarf to do it. As fashion hybrids become ever more popular (hello, cape trenches) the scarf dress has become one of the easiest ways to adopt the trend this year— whether they are in-built or separates that you can style as you wish, with designers including Khaite, Me+Em and Esse Studios all offering their own take. That’s a wrap.

Shop the Best Long Scarves

It's officially been just over a week since I got married, after 22 months of planning. 669 days! 16,056 hours! 963,360 minutes!

While it was challenging at times, one thing I was absolutely adamant about during my engagement? Keeping stress levels to a minimum. I found the wedding planning space to be unbelievably oversaturated and still can't quite believe the number of hacks, must-dos, and tips that flooded my social media feeds daily. While some are helpful—buying a spare shirt for the groom for the day or writing your vows and speeches on paper, not your iPhone notes app—others verge on obscene.

Sadly, the noise about the "must-try" beauty treatments seems to be the loudest, with an enormous amount of pressure put on women to lose weight, smooth out wrinkles, dye grey hairs and generally change a million and one things about their appearance ahead of the big day. I've seen video after video on my TikTok feed of women launching headfirst into restrictive pre-wedding fad diets, lining up months of complicated (not to mention expensive) skincare treatments, and more.

It's a huge amount of pressure—and it's no wonder some brides end up feeling burnt out and stressed come the day of the wedding.

I've long been a firm believer that feeling your best shouldn't cost the earth, and neither should it require you to change a million and one things about yourself. So, ahead of my wedding, I decided to pick one thing to focus on. I didn't change my diet, workout routine, nails, supplements, or hair, but I did go on quite the journey with my skin and learnt so many tips and tricks that'll last me a lifetime.

A bit of background, before I share more about my skin journey. I'm Ally, the Senior Health Editor here at MC UK, and I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, otherwise known as PCOS. One of the main symptoms of PCOS is the inability to process insulin "normally" and, as a result, elevated inflammation levels in the body, which can, in turn, lead to stubborn weight gain and hormonal acne.

I have long struggled with hormonal breakouts, but after eight months of sessions with cosmetic dermatologist Dr Nora Jaafar, I've never been happier with my skin. "It’s such an important message that brides don’t need to completely overhaul everything to look and feel amazing," she shares when we chat for this piece. Her number one tip for any bride-to-be thinking of mixing up their skincare? "Don’t experiment too close to the wedding," she warns. "Focus on consistency with the basics—gentle cleansing, hydration, and targeted treatments for your skin concerns. Simplicity and patience often give the most radiant results. A hyaluronic acid serum is also the most stress-free way to add an instant boost of hydration and glow in the close run-up—it layers beautifully under make-up and suits almost all skin types."

And my biggest takeaway? Well, it might surprise you, actually, but sticking to the basics is often more effective than trying loads of new things. 5 tips for glowy and blemish-free skin

1. Using a fragrance free, dermatologist-approved cleanser day and night

Told you these tips were simple, didn't I? One of Dr. Nora's simplest tips is likely a beauty hack many of you do anyway (or tell yourselves you'll do, while sometimes forgetting or skipping). "Double cleansing—especially for make-up wearers or anyone using SPF—is key to keeping the skin clear and balanced," the doctor explains.

So, which cleansers should you go for? Good question. "Your first cleanser can be oil-based (like a cleansing balm), because oil removes oil, helping to dissolve make-up, sunscreen, and excess sebum. The second cleanse actually cleans the skin—this is where you can use a gentle cleanser with exfoliating acids or actives to deeply refresh without stripping. It’s a small habit that makes a huge difference for congestion and glow."

I opted for The Ordinary Squalene Cleanser for step one, and, at Dr. Nora's recommendation, the CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser. When my breakouts got particularly bad, I swapped my CeraVe for the Obagi CLENZIderm Daily Care Foaming Cleanser, which Dr. Nora had prescribed.

2. Using an LED face mask every night

Next up? Dr. Nora recommended using an LED face mask every evening for ten minutes to reduce inflammation and more. To begin with, I found this hard to get into the habit of again—you're quite limited in what you can do with a glowing mask on—but, after a few weeks of acclimatising, I began to really enjoy it.

Not only did using the mask significantly calm down any hormonal breakouts, but it proved a really simple way to boost my mindfulness before bed. I now take my LED mask on holiday with me, I'm that sold on how effective they can be if used consistently.

"Red LED light stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation, and boosts healing, while blue light targets acne-causing bacteria," explains the doctor. "Used consistently, it can calm breakouts, even out skin tone, and enhance radiance—perfect for the stress-prone weeks running up to the big day."

I tried both the TheraFace Mask—a simple to use, sturdy mask with the ability to give you a head massage, too, and the CurrentBody LED face mask—thought to be used by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Lily Collins and Nicola Coughlan.

3. Using a salicylic toner each evening

Now onto the skincare steps that actively targeted my acne, because while both of the above helped calm down angry breakouts, they weren't specifically preventing the breakouts from recurring. Enter, the god of all ingredients for acne-prone skin: salicylic acid.

So, what's so great about it? "Salicylic acid is a hero ingredient for blemish-prone skin as it dives deep into pores to dissolve excess oil and debris, helping prevent breakouts and smooth texture," shares Dr. Nora. "Toners in general are so underrated—they also help rebalance the pH of your skin post-cleansing, so that the rest of your products absorb and work better. Think of it as prepping your skin to get the most out of everything else you’re using."

Take it from me—I've long struggled with my skin, but the prescription Obagi CLENZIderm Pore Therapy Toner worked wonders for calming down inflamed breakouts and preventing new ones from happening, too.

4. Bi-annual hydrating skin boosters

These were the only slightly more top-end treatments I went for, but I can't stress enough how much I'd personally recommend them if you struggle with breakouts or just want to make sure your skin looks tight, snatched and fresh.

After a full 45-minute treatment where I told her about my skin concerns, history, and past treatments, Dr Nora recommended her Glow Package as the best route. "My signature Glow Package is all about layering targeted treatments that work at different depths of the skin for a full-face transformation," she explains. So, what does it include? First up, a "hydrating skin booster for the mid-to-lower face using Sisthema Hevo T—this combines hyaluronic acid with trehalose to hydrate and stimulate collagen type III, which tightens and brightens from within."

Profhilo and hyaluronic acid injections for acne have been a game-changer for me, a treatment that Dr Nora recommends to all clients looking for that sought-after glowy, dewy look. "While Profhilo isn’t a direct treatment for acne, its intense hydrating properties can help rebalance dehydrated skin, which is often a breakout trigger. For brides, it gives that dewy, ‘glassy’ look, softens fine lines, and improves elasticity. It’s what I call an injectable moisturiser—perfect for getting that lit-from-within glow without adding heavy product layers."

5. Bi-annual chemical peels

Dr. Nora's Glow Package also includes a chemical peel "for that superficial resurfacing glow," she explains.

"Chemical peels gently exfoliate the skin, helping to unclog pores, reduce post-inflammatory pigmentation, and smooth texture. For brides, they give that fresh, even glow and help makeup sit beautifully on the skin," she goes on. "Just make sure the final peel is done at least two to three weeks before the big day to avoid any last-minute sensitivity."

Top tip, though - there are loads of peels on the market, so make sure you choose one appropriate for your skin type. "Some are superficial, others go deeper. My personal favourite is the PRX-T33, a no-downtime TCA peel that gives you glass skin. If you’re tackling more acne or texture concerns, consider a salicylic or glycolic acid-based peel like the Obagi Radiance Blue Peel—but fair warning, you will peel."

I've been conscious about my skin for as long as I can remember, but thanks to Dr. Nora's diligent and supportive help for the eight months leading up to my wedding, I've honestly never felt more comfortable in my skin. She not only helped to calm down my breakouts, but also worked wonders on my skin elasticity, general glowiness, and scarring—something which I hadn't even factored into my pre-wedding skin prep plan.

I can’t start my day without… Hot water and lemon. It’s a relatively new thing for me, since I started fasting. It wakes me up, and then I’ll have a cacao with coconut milk, and those keep me full for the whole morning.

I always always always have a Smythson notebook on me; I have them in different sizes and styles, the full range basically, and I switch them up depending on the handbag I’ve got. The paper is by far the nicest to write on.

Getting home to put my son to bed is a ritual for me. It’s pretty much a non-negotiable of my day, I always try to get on a train out of London no later than six o’clock, because we live near the coast next to Whitstable in Faversham.

I travel a lot and always look out for amazing details, in architecture, gardens, interiors, textiles, anything really. My passion and my hobby is interiors, and I’ve been renovating my home for the last eight years—it’s a nearly-6,000 square foot vicarage, so it’s a big project. But all of this also really inspires me and informs my design process. Inspiration can come from anywhere: a song I hear, a book I read, something I’ve seen, or even an emotion.

We’ve just launched our Twenty collection to celebrate our twentieth anniversary—it's bonkers. We looked back through the archives for it. There’s a beautiful corset called Phoenix with a dipped-front hem from 2005, that we’ve brought back in bright ivory. Paired with a big peplum tulle skirt, it just looks delicious.

We looked at some of our icons for the collection, like the Okotan corset and Okotan skirt. It’s incredible, looking back, how many we’ve sold. Same with the Ariel: it’s a beautiful bow that people add to their dresses, and I know everyone has these now but I’ve been doing it for years, and it’s gone globally bananas.

Everybody seems to know somebody who’s worn the Cheryl. It’s our best-selling dress; a beautiful silk high-neck dress that first came out in the mid-2000s.

We like to empower the women that we dress. We celebrate all body shapes, and hold a collection of diverse sizes, which is super important to me, not being a size 10 myself. There’s nothing specific that defines the Halfpenny bride—she just becomes brave and fearless when she’s wearing one of our dresses, and feels utterly gorgeous.

Seeing pictures of the bride after her wedding is super rewarding. It's such a joy to see the love in the photos, and the dress having its hero moment. Being a part of such a special day is a real privilege. I love getting emails telling me how incredible they felt on the day thanks to one of our designs—you don't really get that with ready-to-wear .

I've seen the bridal landscape change a lot in the past 20 years. When I brought out my brand in the mid-2000s, no one really did bridal separates. They just didn't understand them—it was all about a single dress. It's taken a good decade to get people round to the idea, and now, it's completely normal.

The biggest lesson I've learned in business is... To surround yourself with people that are better than you, and trust your gut instinct because it's your guardian angel.

I think we know too much these days to be as brave as we used to be. Finding that incredible bow-fronted shop in Woburn Walk and opening it as a boutique in 2013 with my name above the door was a huge moment for me. But I was so naive. I remember thinking I'd only need to sell one dress a month to cover the rent. I had no idea how much work it would entail. Now, everything is so out there and available for you to see that you probably wouldn't take such big risks.

You've booked the venue, finalised the guest list, sorted the seating plan, and found the dress—so, what next? For brides getting married this summer, it's time for the fun part: thinking about what swimwear to pack for your upcoming hen and honeymoon.

Of course, it goes without saying that you don't need anything (else) new to be able to celebrate in style. While going big on all-white-everything dressing is a sure-fire way to extend the festivities beyond the big day, you can very well channel the bridal vibes using items you already have in your wardrobe. Recently, my group chats have been filled with engagement announcements, first house purchases and baby scan photos. Call it the turning-30 effect—or in my case, turning 33. With it comes a whole host of questions, including, very importantly, where to find the best bridesmaid dresses. So, I've made it something of a specialty to pitch in wherever I can, sourcing options that we'd all actually want to wear again.

Now I'm here to share everything I've learned. There's a lot to consider when choosing bridesmaid dresses—more so than when choosing a wedding guest dress—largely because if you're dressing multiple people in the same thing, the dress has to be a genuine crowd-pleaser.

Key questions to keep in mind: what shade will work with the colour palette? Printed or plain? And what length best suits the occasion? And that's before you've even considered which styles are trending for 2026.

Budget is worth thinking about early, too, as the figure will depend on how many bridesmaids you have and your overall wedding spend.

Clearly, there's a lot to consider, but get the above right and you'll be well on your way to finding something everyone (and most importantly, you) loves. Marquise diamonds were all over my feed last year, and the obsession is showing no signs of slowing—especially since Selena Gomez's recent engagement announcement featured a marquise diamond set on a yellow-gold pavé band.

"Marquise are characterful enough to hold their own as a solitaire, as is the case for Gomez's ring, but their shape also allows for a lot of design possibilities: think diamond side stone clusters for a vintage look, larger side stones for a modern-looking trilogy ring, asymmetrical side stones configurations for a playful twist," explains Rachel Boston, founder of the jewellery brand of the same name.

Meghan Markle's three-stone ring is as symbolic as they come. Designed by Prince Harry and the official Court Jeweller, this ring style symbolises the past, present, and future of a couple's life together. Sentimentally, the two round stones seen on the sides of the ring feature two diamonds from Princess Diana's personal collection.

Hailey Bieber's original engagement ring featured an oval-cut diamond on an 18-karat gold band. The ring was estimated to be up to 10 carats in size, and has since been upgraded to a whopping 12 carat oval-cut white diamond.

“I love working with oval-cut diamonds, they are super flattering on the finger and, to me, bring the same feeling of softness as a pear," says Thomas, "However, you have to be careful when choosing an oval, a badly cut one just looks like a potato (known as the bow-tie effect).”

Serena Williams

Serena Williams' engagement ring is a real wow piece. Featuring a large oval-shaped diamond flanked by two smaller stones set on a platinum band, it's a unique choice in comparison to the more minimalist designs we've seen of late.

"Serena Williams’ oval trilogy ring is a bold blend of brilliance and meaning,” says jewellery designer Isabella Hewitt. “With an oval centre stone flanked by two radiant diamonds, it follows the classic trilogy setting—three stones traditionally symbolising the past, present, and future. It’s a design chosen as much for its visual balance as for the quiet symbolism it carries.”

Lady Gaga

While it may not be her most recent engagement, Lady Gaga's incredible pink sapphire ring, from talent agent Christian Carino in 2018, definitely deserves a spot on this list. Featuring a 13-carat stone, said to symbolise romance, surrounded by 12 white diamonds, it's a playful design for someone who loves untraditional stones.

"I love how this very traditional design gives an unexpected twist with the gorgeous pink hue of the sapphire," says fine jeweller, Olivia Madigan-Shea, "Today, this is a style you'd typically see this style set with sapphires, rubies or emeralds, but actually pink sapphires were used a lot during the Georgian and Victorian eras and it's a choice that feels romantic yet bold."

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

While most see an engagement ring as a lifelong purchase, many celebs choose to upgrade their styles as their tastes change over the years. One celebrity who's done precisely this is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who got engaged to actor Jason Statham in 2016. Late summer wedding guests assemble—we are sailing the same shores. With one of my dearest friends' nuptials on the horizon, my attention has been on wedding guest outfits for the past few months. It’s been a wholesome quest thus far—if not a bit overwhelming—but with a month to go, I’m still undecided.

When speaking to the bride’s aunt (who spoke about her enjoyment of dressing up and not wanting to upstage the bride) I began to reflect on the qualms of choosing a wedding guest outfit and the many factors to consider. Some guest wedding dress codes can be challenging to ascertain (aside from the absence of white and colours of a similar ilk), and while anything formal goes, there are many considerations to factor in to have you feeling your very best, especially in these late summer months.

After much deliberation, I've decided that the outfit needs to be relaxed and comfortable enough to wear all day—from ceremony to late-night dancing—but still special enough for such an occasion.

Floral motifs remain one of the biggest wedding guest uniforms, though that isn’t to say the search stops there. I much prefer block colour and the pairing of muted tones in silken and taffeta fabrications instantly makes an outfit feel occasion-ready—the tactile fabrics add dimension to the colour making it feel super luxe.

Let's face it, the weather in the UK can be unpredictable at the best of times, so the outfit needs to be versatile and breathable. Plus, you can always keep an extra layer, in case the temperature drops in the evening. While fine knits may be a wildcard, the silhouette and muted colour palette can make it wedding-appropriate. It’s worth considering accessories in the same way. Opt for a small statement bag and jewels that match the undertone of your outfit to tie it all together.
