Cece Fein-Hughes has quickly become one of the most exciting names in fine jewellery. The British designer has earned a place on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, built a loyal celebrity following—including names such as Taylor Swift and Margot Robbie—and become known for her whimsical, storytelling-led approach to design. Every piece from Cece Jewellery is handcrafted in London using recycled gold and ethically sourced gemstones, but it’s the personal touches woven throughout her collections that make her work so special. Her latest collection, Once Upon a Time, explores themes of love, lust and longing through a modern fairytale lens. Here, Cece gives us a glimpse into the creative world behind the brand, sharing the daily rituals, inspirations and moments that shape her work.

What is one thing you can’t start your morning without?
A coffee. Always!

How do you choose what to wear in the mornings? What’s your go-to work outfit and why?
Anything by Simone Rocha. I live in her tops and cardigans for everyday work, and her dresses if I’m going out for something special. Her pieces feel romantic but strong at the same time, which I love.

What are your in-office/studio essentials?
Candles and sweet treats. Our offices are in Notting Hill, so I’m constantly picking up cookies or something sweet from Crème or Choux. I’m completely obsessed with their cookies.

What is your favourite post-work, pre-bed ritual?
A cup of tea and some romantasy before bed. I was completely obsessed with Fourth Wing last year, it definitely kept me very entertained.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs? What’s your design process for a new collection?
Inspiration can come from anywhere, it really depends on which period of art or story has captured my imagination at the time. Our Once Upon A Time collection, for example, emerges from the pages of the world’s most enduring love stories, tales whispered through folklore, poetry, and the dreamscapes of childhood.

I love creating designs that feel like stepping into another realm, where romance becomes myth and each piece holds a spellbinding narrative of its own. Recently I’ve been immersed in fantasy, historic love stories and fairytales, letting my imagination wander and translating that playfulness into jewellery.

What gave you the idea for your brand in the first place?
I was doing a jewellery making course and visited the V&A, where I saw a 17th-century ring with enamel flowers. It completely stopped me in my tracks. I realised no one was really making pieces like this anymore. Champlevé enamel is an incredibly complex craft and was actually on the dying arts list, with very few people trained in it.

I also discovered I loved creating miniature designs. Today I work with some of the most talented enamellers in the world to bring my tiny paintings to life on solid 18ct gold.

What is your favourite thing about your job?
Working with beautiful jewellery every day and helping bring people’s dreams to life. Around 60% of our business is bespoke, so we hear incredibly personal stories, proposals, love stories, commemorating someone special, the birth of a child. Being part of those moments, even in a small way, is very special.

Can you tell me about the biggest highlight or “pinch-me” moment since founding the brand?
There have been so many lovely moments, working on engagement rings, being included in Forbes 30 Under 30, and creating pieces for incredible clients like Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker for their anniversary recently, others like Gigi Hadid for Taylor Swift, and Margot Robbie for Jacob Elordi and herself.

Biggest career achievement to date?
Seeing how far we’ve been able to push the craftsmanship. Champlevé enamel is such a rare art form, and I love when clients come to us wanting to explore something technically challenging. Those projects are always the most rewarding. We’ve recently completed an extraordinary solid 18ct gold cuff which really pushed what’s possible.

Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Surround yourself with trusted advisors who genuinely understand business and can guide you through big decisions. I’ve been incredibly lucky to work closely with my parents, who have been pivotal in helping me navigate many of those moments.

How has your business evolved over the years?
It started with just me and two employees working out of a space at my parents’ home. Today we’re a team of sixteen with an office in Notting Hill, which still feels quite magical when I think back to where we began. We are also creating much larger pieces, which provide a fabulous canvas to showcase the artwork.

What are you currently working on?
We’re launching our "Once Upon A Time" collection in May. It's very magical and fairytale-inspired, with pearl chokers and beautiful charms in our ready-to-wear pieces. Alongside that, we’re always working on incredible bespoke commissions. One of them currently includes a portrait, which will be our first ever, it’s pretty extraordinary.

Could you share any future plans or big projects coming up?
We have a few exciting projects coming up but at the moment they are all top secret! What I can share is that we’re introducing authentication certificates for our pieces, highlighting their craftsmanship and importance as modern heirlooms that can be passed down through generations. It’s a significant step for us as a business, and one that reflects how seriously our pieces are being recognised as works of art.

Toussaint (1887 – 1976) was the visionary creative director responsible for pioneering the vibrant and voluminous motifs at Cartier between 1933 and 1970, including its sensuous, three-dimensional panther, which captured the hearts of luminaries like the Duchess of Windsor and opera star Maria Callas. During the Nazi occupation of Paris in the 1940s, she became a member of the Resistance and bought the jewellery company of her employer, Bernard Herz, giving it her own name to preserve it from being destroyed.

Now a new generation of jewellers has taken up the mantle left by these exceptional women. In an industry navigating economic uncertainty, political instability and the concerns of climate change, they continue to defy conventions and champion both craftsmanship and ingenuity, all in their own inimitable style. In pursuing their passion for creativity, they produce beautiful jewels that shape the desires of women across the globe.

The Innovator: Anabela Chan

“Jewellery is the most magical thing you can wear, it transcends generations and has the ability to bring immense personal joy,” says London-based Anabela Chan, of what drew her to jewellery. “It’s also a chance to escape from the ordinary to a realm where anything is possible.” Born in Hong Kong, she worked in architecture and fashion before earning her Master of Arts degree in goldsmithing & jewellery from the Royal College of Art in 2013. In a quest for greater sustainability wherever possible, Chan blends her love of science with botanically inspired designs that are worn by stars like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Taylor Swift. Her collections have included recycled aluminium cans, ethically farmed pearls, and reconstituted stones created from cast-off materials. Fruit Gems, her latest venture, is a range of colourful jewels made from pigments derived from fruit and vegetable waste set in a plant-based resin that can be cast like metal or faceted like a gemstone

The Ethical Champion: Pippa Small MBE

Renowned for her ‘talismans for modern life’, Pippa Small’s entire career has been guided by her interest in human rights, indigenous communities and preserving traditional craftsmanship. In 2008, she began partnering with the charity Turquoise Mountain to support artisans in countries affected by conflict such as Myanmar, Afghanistan and the Levant, protecting traditional craftsmanship and livelihoods and providing a platform for education. In 2021, she and a colleague also founded their own NGO, Zindagi Now, in Kabul as “a space for women to learn jewellery-making and business skills together.” Her colourful pieces are all handmade, with a textural quality steeped in the stories of ancient cultures. “Making has a profound power. It creates confidence, independence and hope,” she says. “When the world feels smaller, harsher and divided, I love that my clients choose to wear these pieces as talismans, expressions of solidarity and appreciation for human connection.”

The Pearl Revisionist: Melanie Georgacopoulos

Once relegated to our grandmother’s jewellery boxes, pearls have undergone an image overhaul in recent years, thanks in no small part to Greek designer Melanie Georgacopolous. During her master’s degree at the Royal College of Art, she began experimenting with sliced pearls, incorporating their tree ring-like interiors into her sculptural jewels – a technique she carried into her own eponymous brand, which she founded in 2010. “I was trying to understand what was inside the pearl and how it was made, and this idea of exploring how they could be integrated in contemporary culture,” she explains. “I think it was also my way of refusing to accept conventional ideas of what gemstones could or should look like.” Likewise, as head designer at Japanese pearl jeweller Tasaki, she has slashed, studded and faceted lustrous Akoya pearls like precious stones, threaded them onto slinky bracelets and sandwiched them between twisting chains, creating collections that are both timeless and utterly directional.

The Boundary Breaker: Thelma West

Born in Lagos, West has been immersed in the world of diamond dealing and jewellery design for almost two decades. But her fascination with sparkle began much earlier. “I grew up watching the women around me enjoy adornment. Jewellery was always part of the ritual of getting ready, something emotional, expressive and shared,” she says, of her Nigerian upbringing. “Beyond the beauty of it all, I was intrigued by how these objects deeply matter to us, emotionally.” After studying in Antwerp, West endeavoured to become a diamond trader but found, as a woman, her entry into the world of stone-dealing was far from straightforward. Indeed, she often had to send a male business partner into meetings to do deals on her behalf. West later channelled her frustration into two separate companies: Yeraua Diamond, an ethical sourcing company she founded in 2008, and her own gemmological lab, IGR London, which grades gemstones for retailers and jewellers. In 2012, she also established her own design studio, creating bold and eclectic pieces inspired by the sculptural work of JAR, Wallace Chan and Suzanne Belperron.

The Diamond Disruptor: Jessica McCormack

Though she is the daughter of an antiques dealer, Jessica McCormack takes a resolutely modern approach to designing jewellery. Born and raised in New Zealand, she moved to London in her twenties to intern at Sotheby’s jewellery department. It was here that she fell in love with the idea of creating her own pieces and, crucially, with the Georgian-era goldsmithing techniques that have informed her work ever since. “I wanted to recreate them, but in designs that made them relevant and wearable for women today,” she says. Buying a new luxury watch might not be as simple as you think, especially if you have a sought-after model in mind, such as a specific Rolex or Patek Philippe. Deciding on the best women's watches to choose from is hard enough as there are so many exquisite styles to choose from, but walk into a store to do so, and you might well be faced with a scant offering in the cases, and the reality of long – highly competitive – waiting lists.

To put things in perspective, a watch dealer described to me the sales job he loved as morphing into that of a bad-tempered receptionist: “I just pick up the phone and say no all day long.”

Even watches without eye-watering price tags can be difficult to secure, as the furore surrounding the recent Audemars Piguet x Swatch collaboration demonstrated. Riots outside Swatch stores around the world on launch day, including in London and Birmingham, forced the brand to close its shops.

While you navigate the lengthy waiting lists and search for an easier way to acquire the investment watch you desire, may we suggest going vintage? Not only does this give you access to leading luxury brands and collectible models, but there is also a good chance you'll find a great deal. Here's what you need to know.

Where to buy a pre-owned watch?

The first step is deciding where to buy, and with the market for pre-owned watches booming, there is lots of choice. For those of us who love the in-store experience, most traditional jewellers and watch stores now offer vintage watches alongside new timepieces. This can be a great way to buy from a local store that you trust, and many will offer guarantees or service plans. For example, Pragnell, which has stores in London and Stratford-upon-Avon, offers a two-year guarantee on all its pre-owned watches for peace of mind. “Our team has extensive horological knowledge, and we thoroughly assess each timepiece for authenticity, service, cleaning, and polishing to ensure the highest quality,” notes managing director Charlie Pragnell.

Another option, and one that is great for quick access to a wide variety of watches or for finding specific hard-to-come-by models, is to buy online at a dedicated digital marketplace such as Watchfinder or Chrono24. These sites allow you to sell and buy watches, and have huge databases of listings – Chrono24 claims it is used by 9 million watch lovers every month. eBay is also heavily invested in watches now, with its listings of jewellery and watches increasing 20% in the first quarter of this year, and many of those for serious models from Omega, Cartier, Rolex and Patek Philippe. With eBay, you can also treat it like a piggy bank, selling enough of your old items and keeping the cash banked as you save up for a luxury watch. Or you can use it to sell one watch to help you trade up to a new one.

Should you enjoy the thrill of the bid, auctions are another fantastic source for watches. Auction houses are a mixed bag, however, and you should pick your vendor carefully if you are not a watch expert. A lower-tier auctioneer specialising in house clearances might turn up a bargain, but you could similarly end up with a dud. “Finding someone trustworthy and with a decent reputation is paramount,” advises Tom Heap, senior watch specialist at Christie’s. “Buy the seller, as they say.” Going along to auction sale previews when you can is not just important to assess the quality of what you might bid on, it is also fun and a less pressured shopping environment than traditional retail. “There is no hard sell,” explains Charles Tearle, head of watches at auctioneer Lyon & Turnbull. “If you walk into a retailer, a lot of people feel obliged to take out a credit card and buy something. You cannot do that with an auction [preview]. You can try on as much as you want, and then if you like it you have the opportunity to bid – if it goes too high, that's okay; if you buy it for what you want, great.” Tearle advises that if you are keen on a watch at a preview, ask the auctioneer what they think it will go for on the day, and always request a condition report – that way, you will know for sure whether the watch is in working order or not.

Which vintage watches are the best investment?

The golden rule of vintage watch buying is to first and foremost buy what you love. As Tom Heap at Christie’s says: “It is important to remember, it is an avenue of pleasure”. That being said, if you are buying with an eye on future resale or long-term value, there are some relatively safe bets. At Christie’s, Heap says that collectors often bid for classic Rolex Datejusts or Cartier Tank Louis models as they “do tend to have an established market if you ever decide to sell or trade up”.

At Watchfinder, it is similarly the big brands that are considered safe havens. “If I had to single out one ‘safe’ buy, it would be the Rolex Lady-Datejust,” says UK country manager Ben Staniforth. “Rolex continues to dominate the secondary market in terms of both resale stability and liquidity, and the Datejust has enjoyed decades of uninterrupted desirability. It is classic, versatile, relatively straightforward to service, and consistently easy to resell – all qualities that matter when considering long-term value retention.”

What are the most popular vintage watches right now?

Prices on the secondary market are dictated by demand, so popular watches command higher prices. In its Watchlist Trend Report, eBay lists six of the top-growing watch models in 2026, based on a combination of sales price and category listing growth. The Patek Philippe Nautilus is up 154% on its ranking system, and all the other watches to make the list are by Cartier, with the Demoiselle up 80%, the Tank Américane up 43%, the Tank Française up 39%, the Baignore up 21%, and the Ballon Bleu up 23%. It would seem that the French maison is having a moment on the secondary watch market.

“We have seen an explosion in interest in vintage Cartier,” agrees Tom Heap at Christie’s. “They are so collectible as they’re very varied but always quite familiar and easier to approach for budding vintage collectors.” He also describes a resurgence in what he terms “neo vintage” watches, which date from the 1980s to mid 2000s, driven by younger collectors.

The ‘boyfriend watch’ trend of the 2000s is also back, according to Ben Staniforth at Watchfinder: “We’re seeing more clients gravitate towards pieces like the Rolex Datejust 31 or 36, Oyster Perpetuals, and even Royal Oaks and Nautilus models that traditionally may have been marketed more towards men.” Conversely, he says, there is also a trend for dainty styles – smaller case sizes and vintage styling such as hardstone dials and textured metals.

Watch brands discontinuing models can also cause a surge in popularity. Kirsty Keoghan, eBay’s GM of fashion and luxury in the EU, says that when Rolex called time on its GMT-Master II ‘Pepsi’ and its white gold Submariner ‘Cookie Monster’ (the unofficial nicknames relate to bezel colours) during Swiss watch show Watches and Wonders in April, she instantly saw a spike in searches for them. “Straight away, you suddenly see that [impact in] the secondary market because people are concerned that they're not going to have that watch as part of their collection because it won't be produced anymore,” she says.

How will I know if the watch is authentic?

Buying on the secondary market comes with its risks, which makes choosing a store, marketplace or auction house you trust all the more important – as well as some sort of official authentication guarantee.

“With superfakes on the rise, expert authentication is more important than ever,” says Thomas Mummery, Watchfinder’s head of authentication. “At Watchfinder, each watch undergoes a rigorous 60-step inspection and authentication process by trained and accredited watchmakers, with tens of thousands of watches passing through our experts’ hands each year. Every watch also comes with a 24-month warranty for added reassurance.”

eBay has launched its own watch authentication service in partnership with independent London-based watch repair business Stoll & Co. Watches prices at £1,500 or more are automatically enrolled for this service, at no cost to the buyer or seller. A blue tick on the listing shows that it will go through this process.

Watchmakers check the timepieces against the listing to make sure they are as described, and also check to make sure they are authentic. If the watches pass the test, they are sent on to the buyer along with an NFC chip and QR code that guarantees it passed inspection. Since the launch of this service in 2020, eBay has verified 15 million items across all categories.

The fine jewellery halls of Harrods and Liberty were once treasure troves of refined elegance: exceptional gemstones, delicate designs and world-renowned houses with instantly recognisable motifs. Van Cleef & Arpels' Alhambra, Chaumet's Bee and Bulgari's Serpenti are among the most iconic.

Although these classic items will always appeal, the past few seasons has seen a new wave of players emerging, bringing bolder colours, dynamic ideas and personality-led pieces that have expanded the fine jewellery landscape. High-net-worth shoppers are increasingly seeking ways to personalise their jewellery so that it feels uniquely their own, while remaining expertly crafted and worthy of investment—and demand for such pieces continues to grow.

As The Business of Fashion reports, jewellery "has outpaced the luxury sector as the category is seen as having a better value proposition than handbags." The current rise in gold and silver prices only accentuates its position as a value-worthy asset. And with pieces designed to last far longer than one season—exceeding even our own lifetimes—high jewellery is increasingly seen as a wise investment rather than simply a fashion find. An investment, however, that now comes with a wealth of options, meaning there is a high jewellery trend to suit every kind of shopper.

For those making their first fine jewellery purchase, Ruby Beales, Jewellery Buying Manager at Liberty, points to the growing number of entry-level investment pieces—labels navigating the line between craftsmanship, quality and accessible price points.

For the non-traditional fine jewellery fan, personality pieces offer a compelling alternative, where artistic influence breaks free of traditional norms. And Beth Hannaway, Director of Buying of Fine Jewellery and Watches at Harrods, highlights the rise of traditional jewellery with a contemporary twist: coloured gemstones over clear diamonds, white metal over gold, and bolder proportions over dainty designs.

It's clear that personal expression is very much on the agenda. And few things are now chicer than wearing diamonds every day. Long gone are the days of secretive safe storage. Where refined delicacy once reigned supreme in the fine jewellery world, punchier personality pieces are now pushing through. "A more directional aesthetic is emerging, balancing subtlety with impact," explains Hannaway.

"White metals have regained momentum, offering a cooler, more architectural foundation that feels aligned with modern fashion. At the same time, jewellery is becoming more expressive in form. Sculptural, fluid gold silhouettes and bolder proportions are reasserting themselves, replacing the delicacy of recent years. Alongside this, colour is returning in a more considered way, with vibrant gemstones set within clean, timeless designs. The overall effect is confident yet controlled, where design and materiality are equally highlighted." Look to Suzanne Kalan for inspiration, a key leader among the more dynamic designers.

Reinventing The Archive

"We're seeing a real shift towards heritage-inspired fine jewellery, interpreted in a much more modern and wearable way," says Beales. "Customers are increasingly drawn to pieces that feel timeless and emotionally resonant, whether that's vintage-inspired settings, heirloom-style signets or reimagined archival motifs." Earlier this year saw the return of the brooch—falling neatly into the same trend sphere.

"At Liberty, brands such as Cece Jewellery, Foundrae, Lucy Delius and Annoushka are resonating strongly because they balance storytelling and craftsmanship with a contemporary sensibility. There's a growing appreciation for jewellery that feels personal and lasting, particularly as customers become more considered in their purchasing habits."

Enduring Value

"The investment mindset continues to strengthen, shaping how clients approach fine jewellery," says Hannaway, splitting high jewellery clients into two camps: those after everyday pieces and those searching for something truly spectacular.

"There is a clear focus on exceptional stones, timeless design and pieces with lasting relevance. High-quality diamonds and rare coloured gemstones are increasingly valued for both their intrinsic worth and emotional significance, particularly against sustained strength in gold prices. This is driving demand for pieces that can be worn, collected and ultimately passed on, with provenance, craftsmanship and heritage playing a central role in purchase decisions."

Personality Pieces

Solitary diamond studs, tennis bracelets and thin chains may immediately spring to mind when picturing the fine jewellery sphere, but change is afoot, says Beales. "Fine jewellery is becoming far more expressive and personality-led. We're seeing strong interest in sculptural forms, unusual stone combinations and pieces that feel artistic rather than traditionally 'perfect".

"Designers such as Polly Wales, Brooke Gregson and Pascale Monvoisin are driving this shift, creating jewellery that feels conversational, playful and highly individual. That desire for individuality and self-expression is one of the most interesting shifts we're seeing across the category at the moment."

Everyday Expression

"Jewellery is increasingly being bought and worn for self-expression, rather than for occasion," Hannaway tells me. Gone are the days of saving only for best. "Clients are investing in pieces that elevate daily life, reflecting personal milestones, identity and taste. This is driving a more relaxed approach to styling, where diamonds are worn instinctively and layered with ease.

"Classic pieces such as tennis necklaces and hoops are no longer reserved for special occasions but integrated into everyday wardrobes. Personalisation further reinforces this shift, with clients building collections that evolve over time rather than purchasing in isolation." It's time to take the diamonds out of the safe.

Entry-Level Investments

Fine jewellery may be associated with price points in the thousands, but Beales has noticed a substantial shift. "There's also been a notable rise in what we'd call 'entry-level investment pieces'—fine jewellery that feels accessible enough for everyday wear but still carries craftsmanship and emotional value. Customers are building collections more gradually, often starting with layering pieces, charms or sculptural hoops that feel versatile and personal.

"Brands such as our own in-house Liberty Jewellery, Laura Vann, Otiumberg and Alighieri continue to perform well in this space because they offer jewellery that feels directional yet wearable enough for everyday styling. What's interesting is that luxury customers are still investing, but they're looking for pieces with longevity and flexibility rather than overt occasion dressing," says Beales.

For those who sit in the strictly traditional bridal camp, wedding jewellery tends to follow a predictable formula: a sparkly solitaire engagement ring, paired with a plain gold band. It's a classic, timeless combination, and one that's dominated the past few decades with good reason—but for the fashion crowd, it can feel a touch too expected.

Instead, the most stylish brides are approaching their ring stacks in much the same way they get dressed: less about matching, more about balance. And the priority? To let their personality shine through—not just in the engagement ring, but in the wedding band, too.

"We are seeing a real shift away from plain wedding bands toward pieces with more thought and design behind them," explains Will Wright, director of insider-favourite vintage jeweller Wave Antiques. "Yellow gold is still the most popular choice, but people want to make it their own now. We're seeing a lot more requests for texture and engraving, or even little personal details like a birthstone hidden on the inside of the band."

"Gold prices are high right now, but that actually seems to be making people more intentional," continues Wright. "Instead of just picking a simple band, they want to invest in something that feels unique and meaningful to them—that are an extension of their personal style."

"Growing up, I was always fascinated by vintage jewellery, and my grandmother was my greatest inspiration—and at the mighty age of 90, she still is. She is always the most glamorous woman in the room: hair blow-dried to perfection, and invariably adorned in something that sparkles or makes a statement. From a very young age, I had my eye on one particular piece of hers: a gold cut-out vintage band, originally from the Middle East. It was given to her by her mother, and then it was passed on to me by mine. When it came to my Taylor & Hart engagement ring, we knew we wanted it designed to complement the sentiment of my grandmother’s band. I love bringing those two worlds together—my past and my forever now."

"The wedding band is from one of my earliest bridal collections: the Baguette Diamond Deco Ring. It has a strong, geometric profile with a flat top and tapered sides, set with white baguette diamonds. It was always intended to be worn either as a wedding band or as a standalone piece, and I’ve always loved its structure and presence. It has a beautiful hand engraving on the inside which has worn down and softened with daily wear. My engagement ring is a more recent redesign, created for my ten-year wedding anniversary. It features a 2.50ct octagonal geometric pear cut diamond, set on a knife edge band that tapers from wide to narrow, following the natural line of the stone in a subtle wave. It feels fluid, sculptural, and much more reflective of where I am now. I chose a white diamond this time, whereas my original ring had an icy grey stone, but I was still drawn to a distinctive and unconventional cut. On paper, the two rings shouldn’t really work together... The wedding band is very straight and architectural, while the engagement ring has a soft, flowing movement, and they don’t sit neatly side by side. But that contrast is exactly what I love. The rigidity of the band actually enhances the curve of the engagement ring. It feels more personal, less expected, and much more ‘me’ than a perfectly matched set."

"It’s always been a thing in our 12-year relationship that my husband has never bought be jewellery because, in his words, ‘your style is always changing, and I know I’d get it wrong.’ So when he proposed with a Tessa Metcalfe ring, I was sure he’d had some help from my friends. I’d loved her jewellery for years, but hadn’t expected him to remember that. Turns out he’d been speaking with her for months to design the perfect ring. I love the design and how unique it is, but I love it more because he’d held onto that information and saved it for this exact moment. With such a unique engagement ring, I knew I’d need a wedding band to match. Not only something that worked with its shape, but something that would complement the design. A plain band just wasn’t going to work. The Tessa Metcalfe ring is so textured, so I wanted a textured band to work alongside it. If you have an eye for jewellery, chances are that Laura Vann is already on your radar. The British jeweller has been crafting Art Deco–inspired pieces for well over a decade—designs that strike a balance between statement and staple, and feel as fresh as they do truly timeless.

Over the years, everyone from Michelle Obama and Meghan Markle to Anya Taylor-Joy and Daisy Edgar-Jones has been spotted proudly rocking her eponymous brand's designs—and while Vann initially focused on the mid-price, demi-fine category, she has since expanded into precious gemstones and bespoke to meet ever-increasing customer demand.

Here, Laura Vann shares what life really looks like behind the scenes of her nine-to-five, from early-morning routines and office essentials, to the many achievements and lessons learned along the way.

I can't start my day without... A cuddle in bed with my daughter and something caffeinated.

Getting dressed in the morning is about... Whatever fits, as I'm heavily pregnant right now. But usually it’s jeans, a nice shirt, ballet flats, a trench or leather coat and my favourite bag from Stylein which fits everything I could possibly need for the day.

My office essentials are... A nail file and OPI polish (for shooting ring videos), a sketch book and, much as I wish it wasn’t, the ever-present phone.

My favourite post-work ritual is... Lighting a Diptyque candle—it's a small and easy win to help me unwind. That said, with a lively four year old at home, I don’t get much time for rituals.

The idea for my jewellery brand first came in 2012... At the time, I was working for COS after graduating and also helping out part-time at my dad’s jewellery business. I really admired the COS ethos of mid-priced, nicely made, timeless classics, and realised that, with my dad’s 30-plus years of industry experience, we had the perfect platform to apply that same ethos to jewellery.

Our jewellery collections are hugely inspired by Art Deco design. I tend to look at contemporary trends and apply a Deco aesthetic, which results in pieces that are timeless yet relevant.

My favourite thing about my job? I always love photoshoots and designing bespoke pieces as they allow me to go back to being creative which, as we grow, is less and less part of my day-to-day. That said, I’m also really enjoying a more strategic role—especially now that we’re starting to achieve our ambitions. After more than 10 years in business, I have had a million 'no's, but with all our hard work and resilience the brand is starting to accomplish my dreams, and having a hand in those deals, launches and collaborations is so fulfilling.

The most memorable highlight so far was... Definitely seeing Michelle Obama wearing our earrings—that was an incredible pinch-me moment!

One of my biggest career achievements is... Where the brand is stocked. I'm so proud of being in Liberty London and Harvey Nichols, as well as having a shop-in-shop in Fortnum & Mason—the latter have championed us for more than 10 years! Last year we expanded internationally and also launched at David Jones in Australia and NK in Sweden. Our retail partners are always evolving, and we have even more lined up for 2026!

The most important lesson I've learned is... That you can lead with compassion and kindness. Of course, there are some successful people who don’t do this, but their success is short lived and those who go on to greatness are good people who build authentic relationships and share their victories with others.

I love that as the brand (and I) have grown, our customers have come along for the journey... We used to just be 'demi-fine' but when I got married and struggled to find the perfect engagement ring, we expanded into bespoke and the demand for that business was born. Then as I became a mother, the brand grew in confidence and since then, we’ve had our biggest achievements thanks to a renewed clarity and focus.

Right now, I'm working on... Growing new life!

As for what's next? We have just collaborated with the amazing Francesca Hayward for our SS26 campaign, which I'm so excited to share with the world. If ranking London's most underrated locations, Piccadilly's Assouline would easily take a top spot. Seductive with its dark oak bookshelves and old-school bar, yet almost secretive, it's the perfect place for a party—particularly one that unveils both a remarkable 28.88-carat diamond and a beautiful coffee table book. Which is exactly why De Beers chose the London location for a special event on Wednesday 18th March. That, and the fact that Assouline crafted the coffee table book itself, celebrating 100 years of the the diamond house's storytelling and its close relationship with diamonds.

Among the guests at the launch of A Diamond Is Forever – The Making of a Cultural Icon were Poppy Delevingne, Nathalie Emmanuel, Susie Lau, Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe, Archie Madekwe, and many more particularly polished attendees. All gathered to celebrate 240 pages charting De Beers' role—from redefining how we approach diamonds in the 1930s, to this historic images of Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe in the 1960s, to more recent campaigns—all anchored by copywriter Frances Gerety's phrase "A Diamond Is Forever," which has defined De Beers since 1947.

Speaking of the book, Al Cook, Chief Executive Officer of the De Beers Group, says: "humanity's love of diamonds goes back thousands of years. Their beauty, strength and rarity make them the most treasured of Earth's creations."

"Over the past century, De Beers has shared the love of diamonds across the world. A Diamond is Forever, The Making of a Cultural Icon and this exhibition chart 100 years of storytelling, creativity, and artistry—honouring how natural diamonds carry stories across billions of years, from deep within the Earth to the hands of those who treasure them," he adds. In a particularly exciting turn, guests were then treated to seeing a standout natural diamond firsthand.

Ahead of its auction debut on 23rd April at Sotheby's Luxury Sales in Hong Kong, De Beers unveiled the Jwaneng 28.88—a 28.88-carat, internally flawless, D-colour diamond from the Jwaneng mine in the Kalahari Desert, Botswana. It's expected to fetch between $2.2 and $2.8 million at auction.

Although, there seems to be quite the contrast between the brooch aesthetic on Pinterest and that of the runway and real life. While maximalists may layer on multiple styles, creating a collage of brooches across jackets, shirts and even caps—a look that's incredibly cool, may I add—there's a strong case to be made for the solo styling.

Olympia Marie adds a shrunken-down version to the lapel of a black blazer, a tiny detail that elevates an outfit just that one step further. While Polly Newman proves they also work particularly well in pairs, sitting somewhere between the minimalist and maximalist stance. And we've also spied some other chic women getting a bit more creative, attaching their brooches through belt loops or jeans pockets, proving they work far beyond the classic lapel.

I can't start my morning without... A cup of hot water infused with lemon and ginger. The water has to be tepid rather than boiling, which I’ve learned is much kinder to your system first thing in the morning. And whenever I can, I follow it with my Tibetan exercises: twenty-one repetitions of five movements. I started practising them a few years ago, and they’ve become a quiet ritual that wakes everything up and keeps my body as supple as possible before the day takes off.

I’m usually in a tearing hurry in the mornings, so I tend to decide what I’m going to wear the night before. My day can vary between time in the studio and meeting clients in my bespoke space, and what I wear needs to work for both. I always think about how my jewellery will sit on an outfit, because I do a lot of stacking with necklaces and bracelets. Whatever I choose has to show that off properly. And because I often go straight from the office to meetings or dinner without time to go home, I rely on a great pair of earrings to elevate whatever I’m wearing in an instant.

My studio essentials are... Perfect light, fresh flowers, a scented candle and a beautifully curated playlist—in an ideal world, that is. But the truth is, no two days look the same. More often than not, I’m rushing between meetings with several projects on the go and a notepad that’s never quite where I left it. What I do rely on are the tactile things: trays of stones, wax models and half-formed ideas scattered across my desk. The studio comes alive when my incredible team and I are all around the table, sparking ideas off each other. So, while I love the fantasy of the perfectly styled studio, the real essentials are movement, materials, my team—and the creative chaos that keeps everything alive.

After work, I unwind by... Running a hot bath with a beautiful bath oil. My friend Cath Kidston has created a new brand called C.Atherley, and her oils are particularly wonderful. There’s nothing more soothing than a fragrant bath to mark the end of the day and ease out of work mode. After that, I often listen to Desert Island Discs—it’s actually where I found the inspiration for my own podcast. It’s the perfect way to settle my mind before bed.

I’ve always believed that jewellery is most powerful when it holds a story, so my inspiration usually begins with life itself... The places I travel, the objects I collect, the people I meet, and those small moments that unexpectedly stay with you. I’m very magpie-like and am constantly finding inspiration, often from something as simple as the curve of a leaf, a texture of a sweet or a line in a poem.

Every collection begins with a narrative and a series of sketches. We pair those hand sketches with digital modelling to explore movement, scale and structure in ways we couldn’t before. I work very closely with our workshops—many of whom I’ve collaborated with for over twenty years—to refine each piece until it feels effortless on the body. I’m obsessed with how a piece feels on the body: jewellery should be lived in, not stored away, so we refine again and again until the piece has the perfect balance of beauty, craftsmanship and ease.

After the success of Links of London, I genuinely didn’t think I’d return to jewellery... But over time, I found myself looking for something I couldn’t find: an independent place to buy fine jewellery for myself— pieces designed by a woman, with a sense of ease, playfulness and personality, rather than the traditional, rather aloof experience the industry was known for. I also felt a strong pull to work in fine materials; I was excited by the creative possibilities of gold, colour and precious stones, and by the idea of building a fine-jewellery brand that felt modern, warm, and full of joy. That became the spark for Annoushka: a desire to bring craftsmanship and creativity together in a way that felt playful, expressive and deeply personal.

The Annoushka woman is... Smart, curious and wonderfully individual. She wears jewellery to live in— pieces that carry meaning, that evolve with her, that bring joy. She’s confident in her own style, unafraid to mix high craftsmanship with playfulness, and she gravitates towards jewellery that says "this is who I am" rather than "look at me". She values quality, character, and the stories her pieces will tell over a lifetime.

The best thing about my job is... The stories behind the jewellery people choose. Jewellery marks moments and milestones in such a meaningful way, and hearing why someone is drawn to a particular piece is endlessly inspiring. Creating bespoke designs, whether it’s an engagement ring or a charm that captures something deeply personal, feels like a real privilege. You’re invited into someone’s story at a significant moment in their life, and being able to craft something that will hold that meaning for years to come is incredibly special.

The biggest pinch-me moment of my career so far... Was when the Victoria & Albert Museum requested a collection of charms I created for The Vampire’s Wife for their permanent collection. I’ve always looked to the V&A as an extraordinary source of inspiration, so knowing that those pieces will sit within such a revered institution feels like a wonderful legacy.

My proudest career achievement is... Receiving an MBE alongside my husband John for services to the jewellery industry. It was a recognition of the work we began together at Links of London all those years ago, and it meant a great deal to both of us.

The most important lesson I've learned in business is... The value of staying completely true to what you believe in. For me, that means working with real, natural materials and maintaining the integrity of traditional craftsmanship. I have always championed natural diamonds and solid 18 or 14 carat gold, and that commitment has shaped everything I create. More recently, I introduced sterling silver into the Knuckle collection so younger customers can enjoy beautifully made pieces at a more accessible price. Whatever the material, the principle is the same: authenticity matters, and people can feel it in the jewellery.

Right now, I'm working on... So many things! Our recently launched Bespoke Studio is alive with commissions, from engagement rings and push presents, to quieter milestones that matter just as much. Each commission feels like its own little universe, and it’s a privilege to help people mark their lives in gold. We’ve also just launched Knuckle in sterling silver, which has brought a whole new energy to the collection. Clients love its strength and simplicity, and seeing them make it their own is shaping how we think about the next chapter for Knuckle. So currently, it’s really about two things: deepening the personal, human side of what we do through bespoke, and building on the momentum of a collection that’s fast becoming a modern icon.

As for future plans? It’s an undeniably challenging moment, with gold prices at an all-time high and the world feeling more uncertain than ever—but it’s pushing us to be even more inventive and focussed, and that’s a good thing. Our Bespoke Studio is growing fast, and we’re developing new collections that take our design language into bolder, more modern territory. Founded in Paris in 2005, Messika was born from Valérie’s instinctive understanding of both diamonds and contemporary women. As the daughter of renowned diamond dealer André Messika, she grew up immersed in the world of high jewellery—but it was her desire to make diamonds feel lighter, freer and easier to wear that set her brand apart. I can't start my morning without... A large coffee. Always.

My go-to work outfit is... Jeans, a white shirt, and an oversized, perfectly tailored blazer—very often Saint Laurent. I like clothes that feel effortless but strong. Comfort comes first.

My office essentials are... My teams. Passionate, talented people I spend my days with, working on ongoing projects and new ideas. And always a box of Alain Ducasse chocolates—essential for focus and creativity.

My favourite post-work, pre-bed ritual is... Ten minutes with my Nooance LED mask and a good book. It’s a small ritual, but it helps me disconnect and recharge.

Travel is a major source of inspiration for me. A few years ago, a journey to Namibia deeply influenced the creation of our "Terres d’Instinct" High Jewellery collection, unveiled to celebrate the Maison’s 20th anniversary. Architecture also inspires me endlessly—from Paris to Dubai, and New York. Each city has its own identity, rhythm, and lines.

When I founded Messika, diamonds were still perceived as something you received once in your life... Often for an engagement—and then kept in a safe. I wanted to change that narrative. My vision was to modernise diamonds, to make them part of everyday life. Jewellery you could wear with jeans, a T-shirt, and the right attitude. Diamonds that move, that feel alive, sensual, and free.

The best thing about my job is... The people I meet. I’m incredibly lucky to cross paths with inspiring individuals, from Kate Moss to Natalia Vodianova—women I hold close to my heart—with whom I’ve had the chance to create truly special projects. A collection with Kate Moss, a High Jewellery campaign with Natalia… These encounters constantly fuel my creativity and evolution. They remind me that everything is possible when desire and the right instinct are there.

The biggest pinch-me moment of my career so far was... My first fashion show at the Ritz in Paris. It was a defining moment—seeing Messika jewellery presented like fashion, worn with freedom and attitude. Having Kate Moss walk and collaborate on that moment made it even more surreal.

My biggest career achievement is... The opening of our Madison Avenue boutique in New York. It was a major step for Messika internationally and a strong symbol of the brand’s global recognition, especially in such an iconic location.

The most important lesson I've learned in business is... Always trust your instinct.

Messika has evolved hugely over the past 20 years... Today, the Maison speaks to a global audience, with strong foundations in France and the Middle East, two key markets in its development. Over the past year, Messika has continued to strengthen its presence in the United States, while accelerating its expansion in India, marked by the opening of its boutique in New Delhi.

Currently, I'm working on... The launch of Moderniste, a new pillar and a new chapter for the Maison. For the first time, I’m working gold as a raw, organic material, almost like sculpture. It’s a true homage to architecture. I can’t wait to see how the Moderniste woman—and man—will make these pieces their own. Moderniste speaks to both women and men who appreciate design, architecture, and objects with meaning. A form of luxury that is quiet but unmistakable.

As for what's on the horizon in 2026? Moderniste will continue to unfold, alongside our next High Jewellery collection. I’m also continuing my exploration of coloured gemstones, a direction I embraced for the first time in 2025 to celebrate Messika’s 20th anniversary.

The granddaughter of the legendary jeweller and third generation to work in the family business, Cecily Morris has spent over a decade shaping the brand from behind the scenes. Now, she’s ready to step into the limelight with an expanded creative role. Alongside her position as Brand and Retail Director, Cecily has recently designed her first fine jewellery collection for the House: Triolette by Cecily Morris, crafted entirely in 18-carat yellow gold. The concept? “Wearable, stackable jewels that feel as effortless and easy-going as the woman behind them.”

Here, Cecily Morris shares what life looks like behind the scenes of her family business and what she gets up to in her nine-to-five—from morning rituals and office essentials to the important lessons she’s learned along the way.

I can't start my morning without... A homemade smoothie, that contains a mix of seeds and fruits.

Lately, I have been using the app Indyx to keep track of all my clothes... It has made my life so much easier, and I love discovering items I haven’t worn for a while. I usually check my diary the night before to see if it will be a smart or casual day, have a quick look at the weather, and then pick my outfit.

My number one office essential is... My phone. It may sound obvious, but I have to be constantly contactable. With lots of travel, I am used to working on the go—in just over the past month, I have been to Japan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Paris. I am always in touch with my team, so I have to be comfortable working remotely.

My favourite post-work, pre-bed ritual is... Heading to the gym, then relaxing with Netflix—either something new or Gilmore Girls on repeat. I change into my PJs and read on my Kindle. The days are so busy, so I quite enjoy these calming activities to wind down.

For my first jewellery collection, Triolette, I drew inspiration from my own jewellery wardrobe and how I naturally layer pieces... I started with a simple concept—in this case, three geometric shapes—and then worked closely with the design team to explore how each piece could be stacked, mixed, and worn in multiple ways. The process was very hands-on: I used my ears as a canvas, refined the details, and made sure each piece was versatile, wearable, and still true to David Morris’s heritage.

The idea for Triolette came from wanting to create jewellery that I would actually wear every day... It had to feel effortless, personal and natural. The ‘Triolette’ woman reflects that same spirit: she is confident, playful and modern, mixing and matching her jewellery in a way that expresses her individuality. She wears her pieces her way, embracing a style that is both versatile and uniquely her own.

My favourite thing about my job is... The variety, and the different aspects I get to be involved in—from people management to events, marketing and campaigns. I particularly enjoy working on advertising campaigns and seeing the creative ideas come to life.

One of the biggest highlights of my career has been... Working so closely with my father, CEO and Creative Director Jeremy Morris. There have been so many pinch-me moments over the years, often travel related. I get to see incredible places because of the job—we have hosted amazing events in locations such as Mykonos and Thailand, and I also travel with my father to stone fairs. His passion for stone sourcing and creating extraordinary High Jewellery is incredible, and I have been lucky to see it first-hand, including trips to Hong Kong, which are always awe-inspiring.

My biggest career achievement to date is... Definitely the launch of Triolette, my first collection. Seeing all the marketing come to life has been incredible, and it still feels surreal to see my work on massive billboards in the Middle East.

The most important lesson I have learned in business is... To be aware of people’s intentions and to understand how to resolve deep-rooted, fundamental issues within the company.

I have been in the business for ten years and have really worked my way up... I started as a receptionist and spent time in retail at Harrods. I quickly fell in love with marketing and have spent almost all of my time here in the marketing department. Over the years, I have gained a strong understanding of the whole business, and I am now the Brand and Retail Director.

Currently, I'm working on... The 2026 marketing and events calendar. We have lots of exciting things coming up!

I can't share specific future plans at the moment, but I'm very much continuing on my design journey. A big focus for me is educating people about the heritage of David Morris and sharing the story of the House. I’d love to bring back elements of what my grandparents built—their original ideas and way of thinking—but reinterpret them in a modern way. My grandparents, particularly my grandmother, were deeply focused on fine jewellery collections, while my father’s true passion has always been High Jewellery and sourcing exceptional stones. Bringing those influences together feels like a very natural next step.

So, as we head into a new year, it feels fitting to take stock of what lies ahead. I spoke with a selection of key industry experts—from jewellery designers to buyers and PRs—to get the inside track on the biggest jewellery trends set to define 2026, and most importantly, which ones are actually worth investing in. Ear Cuffs

If there's one piece of jewellery that dominated on the red carpet this year, it was the subtly striking ear cuff, worn by the likes of Rihanna, Cynthia Erivo, Adwoa Aboah, Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Kirby and Julia Garner. The designers behind jewellery brand Otiumberg, Christie and Rosanna Wollenberg, are betting big on the trend for 2026: "Ear cuffs are a standout trend—the appeal lies in their refined yet sculptural silhouette, offering a modern twist that feels effortless but directional," they say, adding that their ear cuff sets have been particularly popular thanks to their ability to "create a complete, pre-styled look without the need for piercings."

Fendi, too, adorned models' ears in colourful cuffs for its Spring/Summer 2026 show, while Zimmermann and Schiaparelli showed their own artistic iterations on the runway. It's little surprise, then, that when asked which one piece of jewellery is worth investing in for the year ahead, Tomfoolery London's creative director Laura Kay answered: "a sculptural statement earring, such as a bold cuff". "It captures a few major 2026 trends—scale, minimalism and modern confidence—while being versatile enough to elevate everything from tailoring to eveningwear," she said. "It’s both trend-forward and timeless—making it a true wardrobe cornerstone."

Sculptural Silver

If you're looking for a new piece of jewellery that offers maximum impact for minimum price, you'll be delighted to hear that sculptural silver pieces are set to be a major 2026 trend. "As gold prices continue to rise, we’re seeing a renewed appreciation for bold, sculptural silver jewellery," says Nombulelo Makombe, a jewellery and accessories buyer at Liberty London. "Designers are using silver to experiment with form and scale, offering pieces that feel expressive and impactful while remaining more accessible."

Tomfoolery's Laura Kay agrees, noting that "silver, especially mixed with unexpected textures or finishes, remains a key neutral that feels fresh against both day and evening looks."

Brown Diamonds

As a jewellery aficionado myself, I've spent countless hours browsing new designs over the past few months, and the one thing I have noticed cropping up time and time again is brown diamonds. Cognac, chocolate and champagne-coloured stones are just as special and sparkly as their traditional white counterparts, while having the added benefit of being generally more affordable—not to mention far less ubiquitous. In fact, I'd say I've found myself drawn to them for this very reason; their scarcity only makes them all the more chic.

Liberty London buyer Nombulelo Makombe is of the same opinion: "Brown diamonds offer a beautifully varied palette and feel timeless, understated and full of character," she says. "At Liberty, designers such as Ellis Mhairi Cameron and Lucy Delius work with these stones in a way that feels modern yet enduring—they’re pieces you’ll wear for years to come."

High-Low Jewellery

If there's one person I always look to for jewellery insight and inspiration, it's Rosie Lillis. Founder of a boutique PR agency and industry expert with decades of high-end jewellery experience under her belt, she also has impeccable taste—so she was one of the first people I turned to for 2026 trend insights. The one she's most excited about? High-low jewellery.

"We’re seeing a number of jewellers incorporating non-traditional materials—from cords to resin—into their designs as a creative response to the rising price of gold," she says. "It’s giving rise to a new wave of 'high-low' fine jewellery that mixes luxury craftsmanship with playful, accessible materials. Designers like Roxanne First and Alison Lou are among those doing this best. It's a trend that feels fun, modern and, most importantly, doesn’t cost the earth."

Elevated Beads

"Beaded jewellery has evolved beyond its traditional summer or resort associations and is now being styled as a confident, year-round statement," says Liberty London's Nombulelo Makombe. "For 2026, it feels more refined and intentional. Lizzie Fortunato captures this beautifully through unexpected colour combinations, while Martha Calvo brings a playful, irreverent edge. BonBon Jewellery offers a more earthy, tactile interpretation, balancing bold design with an organic sensibility."

The creative director of Tomfoolery London is also backing bougie beads, with a particular focus on "refined materials and structural beadwork that reads luxe, not playful"—so you can rest assured this is a trend that's well worth buying into.

Vintage-Inspired Jewellery

"Vintage references will continue to shape jewellery in 2026, but in a way that feels modern rather than overtly nostalgic," says Nombulelo Makombe. "Designers are embracing the moodier elegance of black rhodium plating, the graphic confidence of Art Deco silhouettes, and T-bar motifs inspired by antique pocket-watch chains. The result is jewellery that feels richly storied, architectural and contemporary. For accessible price points, brands like Laura Vann and Tilly Sveaas do this beautifully, while for investment pieces I love Lucy Delius’ black rhodium-plated 18ct yellow gold T-bar charms."

Even better? If you have actual vintage pieces already in your jewellery box, that not only nail this aesthetic but come with their own memories and stories, too.

Bold Self Expression

A trend that basically says "anything goes"? That's one we can all get behind. Jeweller Roxanne First predicts that even more so than today, "2026 will be all about personal expression and wearability when it comes to jewellery."

"We’re seeing a lot of layering, chains, rings, and bracelets styled together alongside more sculptural, design-led shapes," she explains. "Colour is also key, with gemstones and enamel adding a playful edge. Personalised and meaningful pieces continue to resonate, as customers look for jewellery that feels individual." In this same vein, Net-A-Porter has noticed a 136% increase in searches for charm bracelets in the past month alone.

So, in short: stack, create, and combine to your heart's content, and invest in pieces that feel like the truest reflection of you—because having fun with your self-expression is the most important 'trend' of all.

Think of a locket, and it's likely that an old, vintage gold heart with long-faded photos inside is the first thing that springs to mind. A piece of jewellery that's undoubtedly nostalgic, sentimental, emotionally charged and treasured—but not exactly the height of luxury or cool. That's where Loquet London comes in.

I can't start my morning without... A cup of tea. Always. It's the ritual of it, the quiet before everything begins. I've tried to be a coffee person, but tea feels like coming home.

My approach to everyday dressing is... Comfort first. But comfort that still feels like me. I lean toward the playful and feminine, good fabrics, interesting textures, pieces that move well. Prada trousers, a Phoebe Philo jumper, trainers. I don't overthink it. Jewellery is where I express myself, that's the one thing I never rush.

My office essentials are... Natural light. I can't function without it. We're lucky with our space; it's in an old industrial building with huge windows and white brick. Very New York loft. My Smythson notebook never leaves my side, and I'm particular about pens. And the pinboards. The studio is covered in them. Ideas, images, sketches. Everything I'm thinking about needs to be visible. It's how I make connections I wouldn't otherwise see.

My favourite post-work ritual is... A bath and a book. Simple things. The day fills up with so many details, so many decisions. By evening I want quiet and warmth and someone’s else’s story. That's enough.

I find design inspiration from... Everywhere, truthfully. Art, nature, travel, conversations, symbols that have meant something across cultures and generations. A lot of our charms begin with emotion. What do women want to carry close to them? What stories do they need to hold? The process takes time. There's a lot of sketching, trial and error, getting the scale and weight exactly right. Each charm is tiny but it has to feel significant. That tension between small and meaningful, that's where I spend most of my creative energy.

I grew up around antique jewellery... My uncle was a jeweller at Grays Antiques in Mayfair, still the best place in the world to find antique pieces. I'd pull up a stool at his counter and marvel at Victorian treasures with hidden compartments and secret messages. Jewellery that did something, that held something. That idea never left me.

What makes Loquet special is that it's yours before it's mine. You choose the charms. You decide what story your locket tells. No one else can make your choices or tell your story. We're creating modern heirlooms, jewellery that celebrates your memories, your milestones, your people. An intimate celebration of self.

The favourite thing about my job is... Unexpectedly meeting someone I don't know wearing our jewellery. It's pure joy hearing what their piece means to them, how it holds their memories, their milestones, their people. Someone will talk me through each of their chosen charms. That's when I remember we're not just making jewellery—we're making containers for what matters most.

One of the biggest highlights so far was... Collaborating with [British artist and illustrator] Charlie Mackesy. It was extraordinary. His work is so tender and true, and translating that into charms felt like a real honour. And more recently, working with [ballerina] Maria Nunez. The honesty that went into her charm design was something very special. There's a natural connection between what she does and what we do. Pure craftsmanship. Elegance. Discipline. Her strength and integrity pushed us to a new level of detail in her ballet shoe charm.

Joining Dover Street Market was a real pinch-me moment. It has been a fashion crush of mine since its inception. To be welcomed into that world, as a fellow London house, felt very accomplished.

My biggest achievement to date? Building something that genuinely means something to the women who wear it. That sounds simple, but it's not. There's so much jewellery in the world. To create pieces that people feel connected to, that they pass down, that become part of their family story, that feels like the achievement. Over a decade in, and women are still telling me what their lockets hold. That connection is everything.

The most important lesson I've learned is... That craftsmanship and integrity are everything. You cannot build something you don't believe in. And the advice I return to constantly: do one thing and be the best at what you do. The temptation to expand, diversify, chase trends, it's constant. But depth matters more than breadth. Know who you are. Stay there.

Over the years, we've refined rather than reinvented. The core idea, jewellery that tells your story, hasn't changed. But the craftsmanship has evolved, the designs have grown more sophisticated. We've recently redesigned our charms to be larger with more detail, so they stack beautifully and every charm is visible within the locket. We've moved into making the whole collection using solid 18k gold and F-coloured diamonds. Materials and details have become our central focus, so that each and every piece feels like a jewel in itself. It's been the most significant evolution yet.

We've just completed a major redesign of the entire collection. New charm sizes, new locket details, a completely refreshed website and store. There isn't an area of the business that hasn't been reconsidered. It's been an incredibly exciting couple of years. The result is a deliberately simple experience that lets the craftsmanship of the jewellery take centre stage.

We're always developing new charms, new ways to tell your story... We're currently continuing to expand our charm collaborations with people who align with our values. The woman who wears Loquet is collecting her life. My job is to make sure she has the vocabulary she needs.

Our next project is to grow our bespoke service. The idea that someone can create their own charm, something that exists nowhere else in the world, feels like the purest expression of what we do. That's the work that excites me most.

I can't start my morning without... A glass of water (as my best mate Nina tells me it's good for me) and a coffee, obviously.

My go-to look for work is... Jeans, loafers, and a great knit. It’s funny: I used to really embrace colour in everything, but as I’ve got older—and maybe just busier—I’ve found myself leaning into a more pared-back, capsule wardrobe. Sometimes, a great pair of jeans and the right shoes is all you need. It’s easy, it works, and it leaves room for the jewellery to do the talking. I always think of Jonathan Anderson: you’ll always see him in blue jeans, a jumper, and Solomon trainers—and he’s one of the coolest. Of course, I layer on the jewels. When it comes to jewellery, more is always more.

My in-office essentials are... My bulldog Boicey, who is in the studio with me from Tuesday to Thursday. He works from home with my fiancé James the rest of the week (flexible hours, obviously). He’s the best vibe, even if full-time office life isn’t really his thing— too many naps, not enough hustle. I’ve got a few crystals on my desk (yes, I’m that person), and there’s always music playing. It's a space with energy. Oh, and coffee, always more coffee.

I usually get home pretty late, so it never feels like I have much of an evening... But if I can carve out a bit of time, I’ll run a hot bath and lather myself in Olverum—the smell is divine. I’m also a big fan of a red light mask in bed, just before the lights go out. Very sci-fi, very soothing. And mint tea, always a mint tea.

The women around me and the way they wear their jewellery have always been my greatest inspiration. All I need to do is look, and I’ll see something that sparks an idea. It’s instinctive. When I’m designing a new collection, it always starts with a moodboard—colours, textures, themes, a feeling. I bring those early thoughts to the team, and we sit together to discuss and develop them. Design is never just a single moment, it’s a process, an evolution. And my team’s ideas, input, and honest opinions are so important to me. They shape the direction just as much as I do.

My favourite thing about my job? That’s a tough question. When you work in a small business, we all have to wear so many hats—and I actually enjoy wearing a few of them. But if I had to choose, it would be creating collections and learning more about the materials I work with. That’s where the magic is for me.

There have been so many real pinch-me moments along the way... Getting an email from the Palace; A$AP Rocky purchasing three pieces in a London department store for Rihanna’s birthday; my old headmistress walking past our store on Walton Street, coming in and letting me know how proud she was—and how proud I should be of myself. But honestly, the best moments are seeing people I don’t know walking down the street or through an airport wearing RF. They’ve chosen to wear something I designed—and that means the world to me.

My biggest achievement? Starting and building RF over the past eight years, and getting to where we are now. Starting your own thing is incredibly tough, and I think it’s often glamourised on social media. The highs are brilliant, of course, but the lows can be just as intense. Working with amazing retail partners like MyTheresa and Liberty London has been a privilege, and meeting such creative, talented people along the way has lifted me during moments I’ve needed it most. But yes, for me, it’s simply still being here. Still building. Still doing it.

Every day is a school day when you run your own business. But the biggest lessons I've learnt are, first: always be on top of your balance sheet. It’s easy to get swept up in the creative or the momentum, but the numbers tell the real story—they determine the health of your business. Second: people. I’ve learned so much about how people behave under pressure, in growth, and in uncertainty. Someone once said to me, "Products don’t build businesses—people do," and I truly believe that. You’re only as good as the team around you. Not everyone will be right for every stage, and that’s one of the hardest, but most important, lessons to learn.

My brand has evolved as I have... At its core, it has always been an extension of me and how I interpret fine jewellery for women today. This year, we sat down as a team and really asked ourselves: why do we exist? How do we serve our clients? All roads led back to them—which is why we introduced our new brand ethos: You, First. Forever. We continue to create, experimenting with new materials, stones.

If you stop dreaming, it's kind of game over. Fundamentally, I believe that for a brand to live on, it has to evolve. Roxanne First started from a passion I had, and a dream—and I’ve just kept dreaming.

My thought process usually goes something like this: what bag, what shoes, what if I spill coffee (I do love a white shirt!), what jacket and what colour suits my mood today?

My go-to look for work is... A good pair of jeans by Paige, a crisp white shirt (my current favourite is Max Mara), and a Veronica Beard waistcoat or jacket. Footwear is either Rag & Bone trainers or mules with a block heel. I rarely wear dresses or skirts—separates just feel more like me. The jewellery part is always easy! I carry pieces with me everywhere, so I can make a quick change whenever I like.

At home in Norfolk, it’s a different rhythm. I get up, throw on comfy clothes, grab my Cortado and head out for a walk or a workout. My wardrobe there is full of much-loved pieces I once wore in London, some with patched elbows or a missing button—but all with stories to tell.

My absolute must-have at the office is a beetroot, apple, orange and ginger pressed juice. It's full of goodness that will keep me going through busy days of meetings.

After work... I love stopping by the Thai massage place on Leather Lane for a foot massage. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a busy day. Then, if I’m not meeting a friend (usually at Bill Granger’s in Notting Hill), my favourite ritual is to stay at The Laslett Hotel. Showering there is an absolute pleasure, then it’s straight into bed with the TV on. Pure bliss.

Most of my ideas come from a genuine excitement about the world around me and a constant quest to notice beauty in the details. Inspiration can strike anywhere: in architecture, like doorways, turrets, or inlaid mosaics in ancient temples and cathedrals... Nature is another endless source—for example, ancient footprints in the sand, fleeting and washed away by the sea, inspired a collection called Thalassa, exploring what humans leave behind now hidden beneath the waves.

My favourite thing about my job is... Absolutely the designing of the jewellery itself, and the storytelling that surrounds each collection. I also have a real love of gemstones and gemmology; discovering and working with beautiful stones never stops inspiring me.

One of most magical moments in my career was winning Accessory Designer of the Year in 1989. I received my award from Princess Diana at the Royal Albert Hall, and I truly felt like a princess myself! I was sent so many flowers afterwards, it was unforgettable. Then came another pinch-me moment: winning the Marie Claire Jewellery Designer of the Year award in 1995. Fast-forward more than 27 years, and I’ve been honoured with several Industry awards, most recently including a Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s still a pinch-me feeling— I’ve been doing this for over 40 years, and I still love it as much as ever!

My greatest achievement has been raising my son, Lorcan, as a single mother while running my business. Balancing both has been challenging at times, but it’s also been the most rewarding experience of my life.

The biggest lesson I've learned in business? That you cannot do everything yourself. And that the people you choose to work with are just as important as the person you might choose to marry.

If that's not possible, Wright recommends "selecting approximately a UK size M as a safe starting point to ensure the ring can be placed on the finger. In true celebrity style, the diamond is—of course—huge. Lisa Levinson, head of UK at the Natural Diamond Council, estimates that it could be 10 carats. The most popular diamond weight for engagement rings is one carat.

What also makes this stone special is the cut. Levinson believes the diamond is an elongated cushion antique cut, a flattering shape that combines the soft curves of a standard, pillowy cushion cut with a length that is closer to that of an oval diamond (a cut that has been insanely popular in recent years due to a number of celebrity engagement rings with oval-cut diamonds, including those of Hailey Bieber and Blake Lively).

The antique element of the cut doesn’t just allude to the old-world aesthetic that this diamond most definitely softly emits. It means that this stone was likely first cut more than 100 years ago—a time when diamonds were cut by hand, with perfectly imperfect facets that make each one an individual work of art. Antique diamonds also have a softer sparkle than modern round brilliants, as they were cut to glitter under candlelight.

“The choice of an antique diamond reflects an interest in story and provenance,” says Levinson. “This diamond could have had many lives and experiences before it was chosen to be their engagement ring. Many old-cut diamonds have been re-fashioned, which means their rarity increases by the year. The size of the diamond already makes it exceedingly rare, for diamonds that are larger than 5 carats, we recover less than the volume of a basketball each year, globally.”

What also makes Taylor Swift’s diamond engagement ring even more special is the band. The diamond is set in a gold band that has been decorated with intricate engravings. It is believed to be the handiwork of New York jeweller Kindred Lubeck, who crafts hand-engraved rings under her brand name Artifex Fine Jewelry.

Lubeck only launched her jewellery brand in 2024, and started making engagement rings at the end of last year, starting with a Victorian era-inspired Lionna engraved yellow gold ring, set with a 1.10ct Old European cut diamond. While her brand is new, Lubeck hails from a jewellery family. Her father, Jay Lubeck, is a master goldsmith based in Neptune Beach, Florida.

Taylor Swift has been responsible for sparking a number of jewellery trends in the past, such as her lucky number ‘13’ gold necklace, which was made by London jeweller Laura Gravestock. The Eras Tour also reignited a passion among Swifties for friendship bracelets. As such, there is little doubt that her engagement ring will have a huge impact on bridal trends over the next few years.

Tobias Kormind at 77 Diamonds suggests that Swifties could create a similar version through its bespoke service, with an 8 carat elongated cushion-cut diamond set in rose gold coming in at about £500,000. But for those with smaller budgets, there are many ways to tap into the style of Swift’s ring without creating an exact copy.

Does size matter? When it comes to diamonds at least, it seems the general consensus is that bigger is definitely better. And while for us mere mortals that might only ever mean the difference between a half- and one-carat engagement ring (if that!), this concept reaches a whole new level in the celebrity realm.

If ever we needed proof that the "quiet luxury" era is well and truly over, it's the sheer size of diamonds that seem to be filling our feeds of late. First came Lauren Sanchez's gobstopper pink diamond engagement ring, that has been estimated to weigh around 20 carats. Then, the wedding ring she wore on the occasion of her Venetian nuptials, featuring an oval diamond so gigantic that it makes the first seem subtle.

Georgina Rodríguez's engagement ring follows this same vein. Cristiano Ronaldo's longtime girlfriend, now fiancé, shared a photo on Instagram of her own mega-watt diamond ring earlier this week, immediately sparking debate about how big is too big—especially for a piece of jewellery that is supposedly meant to be worn every day. Is it so sizeable as to be genuinely uncomfortable? And at what precise point does a rare rock go from impressive and awe-inspiring, to just downright vulgar?

By comparison, I almost didn't even notice the 20-carat diamond hanging off Zoe Kravitz's neck for a recent television appearance. Perhaps it's a symptom of diamond blindness—so accustomed are we to having gigantic, incredibly rare stones thrust in our faces on social media that anything more subtle simply no longer registers.

Or, more likely, the subtlety was precisely the point. In her typically irreverent style, Kravitz wore said 20-carat Oval Eclipse diamond—a design by Jessica McCormack—hanging casually on a string, in a (quite literally) brilliant upgrade of the currently trending, Nineties-era rope pendant necklace. It was simply the ultimate, unexpected addition to her casual outfit—made up of a cropped black waistcoat, pinstripe trousers, bandana and sporty silver Nike sunglasses—as opposed to a gaudy display of wealth.

"There’s a definite trend right now for statement-scale jumbo diamonds," explains luxury jeweller Rachel Boston. "They’re a nod to a more maximalist mood in fashion and jewellery after years of minimalism."

It's no surprise that Rodriguez, Sanchez and Kravitz all opted for oval-cut stones, either: "The current favourite cut seems to be the oval, most likely because it’s flattering on the hand and neck, elongates the silhouette, and offers a big face-up spread for its carat weight, so it reads even larger to the eye," says Boston.

Social media and the content-ification of celebrities' lives has certainly contributed to the idea that 'bigger is better', too. "In a social-media-driven age, the sheer scale [of these diamonds] photographs impressively and creates a kind of visual shorthand for the ultra-rare," Boston explains. "And with lab-grown diamonds becoming increasingly accessible to the masses, celebrities may feel an even greater need to differentiate—pushing for stones that are not only natural, but so large and rare they’re beyond the reach of mass production."

Created in collaboration with La Fabrique du Temps - Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking facility in Meyrin, Switzerland - the biennial prize was first awarded in 2023 to Swiss watchmaker Raúl Pagès. A celebration of creativity, innovation and craftsmanship, the prize returns this year with the announcement of 20 semi-finalists selected from hundreds of entries across the globe.

In a world increasingly dominated by mega-brands, the resurgence of independent watchmaking offers something refreshingly different. Many of these watchmakers work entirely on their own, creating every part of a timepiece - from design and engineering to final assembly - much like a couture designer crafting a garment by hand. Their creations may be produced in small numbers, but each one reflects a deeply personal vision and a level of care that’s hard to replicate. That’s exactly what the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize aims to support: not just skill, but a point of view.

“This new generation of watchmakers is remarkable not only for their talent, but above all for daring to create truly original instruments of precision that are also works of art. The bold creations of the semi-finalists for the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize are a testament to this spirit,” says Jean Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s Watch Director. “In their hands, watchmaking becomes an expression of pure creativity, each timepiece a testament to uncompromising craftsmanship and unique vision.”

This year’s cohort brings together a broad mix of backgrounds, styles and watchmaking philosophies. While many of the semi-finalists are based in Switzerland, there’s strong representation from Asia, including China’s Fam Al Hut and Mgraver, and Japan’s Masa & Co. and Quiet Club. Quiet Club’s 'Fading Hours' stands out for its stripped-back aesthetic and unusual alarm function, where time is read only when activated.

Collectors might recognise names like Kudoke, Petermann Bédat and David Candaux. Others - including Kallinich Claeys, Mineroci and Daizoh Makihara - reflect a new generation of watchmakers unafraid to experiment with design and technique. Auffret Paris’ 'Giverny Blue Train' showcases artistic detail, while Fabian Pellet’s 'Essentiel' opts for a clean, pared-back design. Across the shortlist, the technical approaches and aesthetics vary widely - a clear reflection of the creative range in independent watchmaking.

This autumn, a committee of 65 industry experts will evaluate each creation across five categories: design, creativity and audacity, details and finishes, complexity, and technical innovation. On December 15, five finalists will be announced - along with the members of the final jury.

Then, in March 2026, the finalists will travel to Paris to present their creations in person. The winner, unveiled that evening at La Fondation Louis Vuitton, will receive €150,000 and a year-long mentorship with specialists from Louis Vuitton and La Fabrique du Temps - the kind of support that can elevate an independent watchmaker from cult favourite to a name known far beyond watchmaking circles.

At Boucheron, creative director Claire Choisne tore up the rulebook, reimagining what jewellery can be with Impermanence—a poetic meditation on nature’s fleeting beauty, expressed in precious materials. The collection comprises six crystal vases, each transforming into three or four versatile pieces of jewellery that can be worn as headpieces, shoulder brooches, or pendants. The result is both mind-blowing and profoundly moving.

Piaget—Shapes of Extraleganza

Extraleganza, an intoxicating blend of extravagance and elegance which Piaget has made its creative mantra, is steeped in the spirit of 1960s jet-set glamour and expressed across its high jewellery collections and watches. This season, creative director Stéphanie Sivrière explores the shapes that define Piaget’s Extraleganza, straddling the organic and the geometric, yet always ablaze with colour and refined craftsmanship. A striking necklace epitomises the essence of this style with nine coloured hardstones are inlaid using the “pietra dura” technique, crowned with a pear-shaped D-IF diamond of 3.01 carats.

Chopard—Insofu

Unearthed in Zambia’s Kagem mine, the 6,226-carat rough emerald known as Insofu, meaning “elephant” in the Bemba language, immediately captured the imagination of Chopard’s co-president and artistic director, Caroline Scheufele. Drawing on the glamour of the Jazz Age immortalised by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Scheufele transformed emeralds cut from this colossal gem into chokers, sautoirs, and bracelets, each oozing with glamour and gleaming with that mesmerising green light which enchanted the fictional Gatsby and is destined to captivate jewellery lovers too.

Chaumet—Jewels by Nature

Chaumet’s founder, Marie-Étienne Nitot, famously described himself as a “joaillier naturaliste,” which reflected his deep fascination with flora and the botanical passions of Empress Joséphine—the maison’s very first “VIC.” With its new collection Jewels by Nature, Chaumet ushers in a new chapter of commitment to protecting nature, its eternal muse. Bees, nature’s most delicate yet vital pollinators, appear as a recurring motif throughout this bejewelled ode, symbolising both nature’s beauty and fragility and drawing awareness on the urgent need for preservation.

Messika—Terres D’Instinct

Known for shaking up the diamond world and becoming the go-to jeweller for Beyoncé and Rihanna, Valérie Messika celebrates 20 years in business with Terres d’Instinct, which for the first time introduces juicy, sizeable coloured gemstones: sapphires, rubies, emeralds, spinels and garnets, all in her signature rock-and-roll style. “Mai Troppo” (“Never too much”) is a favourite phrase of creative director Lucia Silvestri, and under the starred Sicilian night of Taormina's ancient Greek theatre, the message had never rung louder or clearer. Over 250 new creations dazzled with larger-than-life gemstones in retina-searing colours.

Just think of that emerald weighing 241.06 carats previously worn by Priyanka Chopra at the MET Gala, or a fancy vivid yellow diamond of over 45 carats, made even more mesmerising by an Asscher cut. The pièce de résistance? A velvety blue Sri Lankan sapphire of 123.35 carats, cut in a sugarloaf cabochon shape — Bvlgari’s favourite cut — forming the centrepiece of the Bvlgari Cosmic Vault necklace. Dior, Diorexquis

Unveiled at Château de La Colle Noire, Christian Dior’s beloved retreat, Diorexquis (translating as Dior Exquisite) is Victoire de Castellane’s most intimate tribute yet to the maison’s founder. Divided into three chapters—landscapes, bouquets, and balls—the high jewellery collection reimagines the couturier’s private passions for nature, beauty, and the whimsical through extraordinary craftsmanship.

Techniques such as opale doublets and plique-à-jour enamelling bring dreamlike depth and translucency, while asymmetrical compositions defy convention and add narrative nuance. Exceptional stones, including a 33.88-carat yellow diamond and an 8.88-carat diamond, punctuate pieces that are of exquisite — or better Diorexquis — elegance.

Chanel, Reach For The Stars

Mademoiselle Chanel had always been obsessed with stars—a motif she returned to time and again in her designs. “I want to cover women in constellations,” she once declared, seeing in diamonds earthly stars she delighted in draping around women’s bodies. With its latest high jewellery collection, that celestial narrative expands. Chanel introduces a new motif: wings, thus offering women the symbolic tools to "Reach for the Stars", as the collection’s title suggests.

Designed under the late creative director Patrice Leguéreau, the 109-piece collection glows with diamond stars set as the centrepieces of dramatic necklaces, bracelets, and rings; takes flight with wings as defining motifs in climbing ear cuffs and sculptural collars; and roars with lions—Mademoiselle Chanel’s beloved astrological sign—most notably in the show-stopping Embrace Your Destiny necklace. Crafted in white gold and polished natural diamonds, it features two winged lions gazing at each other, holding two large pear-shaped diamonds. And because Chanel was nothing if not an overachiever, Reach for the Stars it’s perhaps an invitation to soar.

Cartier, En Équilibre

“The paradox of sophisticated simplicity is to create a clear and obvious line through its sobriety. It is the art of looking at things differently,

Tiffany, Sea Of Wonder

London-based jewellery designer Lucy Delius has over 15 years experience in the jewellery world, where she began her career as a PR. Breakfast at Tiffany’s needs no explanation. Bean at Tiffany’s, on the other hand, might. First introduced by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. in the 1970s, the (you guessed it) kidney bean-shaped pendant—minimal, sculptural and incredibly chic—is back in rotation, and it’s landing on the necks of many chic women. So, it seems there are plenty of reasons for its resurgence: a recent 50th anniversary re-issue, its strong sense of nostalgia, and the fact that, quite simply, it's incredibly chic. This June, British jeweller Kiki McDonough celebrates 40 years in business in suitably colourful style. Renowned for her bold use of vivid gemstones such as fire opals and peridots – which has won her legions of devoted fans, including Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales – McDonough will debut a collection of reissued archival designs taken from the past four decades. Florentine jeweller Carolina Bucci is famous for her signature Lucky friendship bracelets, which are crafted using delicate 18k gold chains handwoven with colourful silk threads. The discovery of a cache of primeval artefacts, including weaponry, on her grandparents’ farm in North West Scotland two years ago was a huge surprise to Ellis Mhairi Cameron, and has provided endless narratives for her textured gold jewellery since. For many years, Jessie Thomas worked from a space on London’s Pimlico Road previously occupied by her father, the celebrated goldsmith David Thomas, who ran the boutique for over four decades. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the same iconic venue as the upcoming Met Gala, the event offered a stylish preview of what's to come next Monday. And if the looks on display were any indication, we’re in for some truly stellar fashion moments.

The style set came together to celebrate the Tiffany & Co. high jewellery collection, and the evening saw a strong focus on the brand's craftsmanship and legacy. Named 'Blue Book 2025: Sea of Wonder', the collection draws inspiration from marine beauty and mystery, honouring French jewellery designer Jean Schlumberger’s iconic aquatic design.

Naturally notable designs and pieces from Tiffany & Co adorned the necks, ears and hands of attendees. Anya Taylor-Joy, in particular, donned a three-piece matching set that included a necklace, earrings, and a ring in 18k white and yellow gold scattered with diamonds. While the ever-stylish Greta Lee, opted for a four-piece set in 18k yellow gold and platinum.

With an evocative colour palette that reflects the shimmer and light of the ocean and its creatures, the collection reinterprets marine wonder through Tiffany's distinctive, timeless lens. While I will never regret my actual wedding dress - a cream and gold Carolina Herrera tulle number - I do wish I'd thought a little harder about my bridal jewellery. In the end, I kept it super simple, borrowing some diamond ear studs from my grandmother, and of course I had my engagement and wedding rings. This was almost 10 years ago, and back then, I felt like my only options were dated pearl necklaces or sparkly drop earrings.

Now though, bridal jewellery has come a very long way, with cool brands like Completed Works, Ysso and even Pandora offering more modern and cool pieces that are suitably bridal without seeming stuffy or outdated.

Christie Wollenberg, co-founder of Otiumberg, confirms a contemporary look is what brides are after this year. "We really hadn't anticipated the love that our customers would have for our Roscida Heart Hoops, so much so that they were out of stock for a while with an 800 person waiting list. We had brides DMing us asking if they could skip the queue so they could have them in time for their special day!"

Meanwhile, Laura Vann founder Laura has noticed an appetite for bolder pieces. "We’ve noticed a real shift towards bold, sculptural pieces for bridal-wear - especially our torque necklaces. Brides seem to be moving away from the delicate and leaning into statement styles that still feel refined," she says.

The message is clear: the modern bride wants "bridal jewellery that reimagines tradition with a fresh edge" (as per LYLIE founder Eliza Walter). So if you're getting married this year, please do yourself a favour and wear one of these pieces. Past bride me will appreciate it.

Some stories are woven through history, others are cast in gold. For Alexia and Stalo Kardes, the mother-daughter duo behind YSSO, jewellery is more than just an art form—it's a conversation between past and present, and a reflection of their shared Greek heritage.

Founded in 2020 in Athens, the now-West London-based brand is a family story that takes Stalo’s thirty-year background in architecture and Alexia’s corporate experience to inform both their sculptural designs and the structure of their business. Blending old-world craftsmanship with a strikingly modern flair, they have been able to balance contrasting experiences with a fresh perspective to hand-craft unique pieces of jewellery stretching from earrings and necklaces to rings and brooches.

Worn by the likes of Adele, Emma Roberts and Hailey Bieber, this collaboration of generations has resonated globally, helping them forge a new path in this industry. Proving that elements from history aren’t forgotten relics but can be transformed into statement pieces, YSSO is foregrounded by an unspoken understanding that only family can bring. Speaking with Marie Claire UK, daughter Alexia shares the beauty of working together and how their dynamic shapes every gold-plated creation.

What was the turning point that made you decide to turn your shared passion into a full-fledged brand?

I’ve been watching my mother study or create jewellery my whole life. I’ve grown up surrounded by conversations about craftsmanship, materials, and art.

Despite this, I started my career as a corporate lawyer, after studying mathematics, but was always chasing that creative outlet. While working at a corporate law firm here in London, I was always wearing my mother’s designs and would constantly be complimented on them. I slowly realised that there was a space to bring these pieces to life and I realised that jewellery has the power to transform an outfit in its totality. This was when YSSO began as an idea: creating expertly crafted jewellery for women buying for themselves.

After long conversations with our workshops and years of trial and error, we began cementing the concept of the brand and opened our own e-commerce website – seeing totally organic traction was something that basically moved the brand from a passion project to a fully-fledged business that we could see the potential of scale. Eventually I realised that what is ‘good design’ is quite objective, that if you create something that meets the needs of the zeitgeist that essentially touches people organically – it transcends culture and geographies.

Stalo, as an archaeologist and art historian, and Alexia, as a former corporate lawyer, both come from different professional backgrounds. How do your experiences complement each other in the creative and business aspects of YSSO?

Stalo’s experiences studying in France and in Greece as an archaeologist, whereas I have spent the majority of my professional life in the UK, provide for a clear mix of cultural influences from an intellectual but also lived point of view. We have grown up in different periods, and worked in different types of roles, both non-jewellery related. In essence, we are self-taught in this industry, and we are navigating our experiences from a customer-centric point of view.

Nothing really prepares you for entrepreneurship therefore having such a variety of backgrounds between us is really something that is a strength as we approach everything with an inquisitive point of view.

What’s a piece of advice from one of you that has really shaped the other in your journey together?

Great question. Since YSSO is so deeply rooted in our very personal journey, there have been so many moments of advice exchanged. If I had to pick one, my mother’s advice about patience and staying true to our vision has really shaped me, while my perspective on modern brand building and creative partnerships has influenced how she sees YSSO evolving.

How has working together changed or deepened your relationship as mother and daughter?

Whilst we have always had a close relationship, working together, and collaborating on building our brand has certainly deepened it – like nothing else could have. Starting a business is one of the most powerful shared experiences of our lives.

We have learned to embrace each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Whilst running a business has many challenges, we have learned to lean on each other even more.

Each piece is handcrafted in Athens using traditional Greek jewellery-making techniques. What are some of the most intricate techniques that define YSSO’s craftsmanship?

We have developed our own proprietary techniques, but also style, while working with our workshops. For certain designs, we ensure that we do not over-polish our pieces and retain the textural detailing of each design. This delicate work requires precision and patience, which involves hand-designing even the smallest of details. And, of course, our adjustable rings and cuffs are shaped by hand, allowing for that perfect balance of structure and movement.

Do you ever have creative disagreements? If so, how do you navigate them while maintaining a strong personal and professional bond?

We actually don’t have creative disagreements, which is a weird thing to say but it’s true! There’s a natural understanding between us—Stalo brings her deep knowledge of jewellery-making and art history, and I often push what is possible in terms of design.

Our roles complement each other rather than clash. If anything, we build on each other’s ideas, refining and evolving them together. There’s a deep respect at the core of our process, which keeps everything flowing – we eventually seem to have the same taste, so that is quite helpful in progressing the creative elements of the brand.

The jewellery market is competitive. What sets YSSO apart from other brands in the space?

There are multiple things that give YSSO its individuality in a market that, as you say, is extremely crowded and competitive.

We strongly believe that jewellery is more than just a token of love, it’s instead a very personal object that women, since the dawn of time, have been attracted to for reasons deeply personal and meaningful. What, I think and hope, makes us stand out is the ability to be able to produce designs which are non-seasonal, yet with a point of view, and which carry with them the traces of us as the designers, and the workmen that made them. I believe that if we create pieces that resonate with us personally, we are bound to find an audience in the world that will also resonate with us.

We also actively avoid ‘market research’ when it comes to our design process. We create design ideas totally without any order or methodology whatsoever. As a consequence, we have a substantial design archive and we choose which pieces to launch using intuition but also historical data. Our barometer is asking the question ‘Would I wear this?’, and if the answer is yes, then we will launch a design. We are not afraid to judge our own designs from a very unattached point of view.

Finally, I think that we are more than a jewellery brand, we are here to create conversations with our audience and build a community around the shared values of craft, expression and the love of Greece!

The fashion in the third season of The White Lotus has, by all accounts, been the most fabulous we've seen to date. So far, the characters have swanned around the five-star Thailand resort in everything from bespoke Jacquemus (Chloe, naturally) and archival Chanel (who else but Jaclyn?), to under-the-radar, insider-favourite resortwear brands—oozing wealth and luxury with their every step.

Which is why we were particularly surprised to discover that some of our favourite White Lotus hotel residents have been supplementing said designer-filled wardrobes with high-street jewellery all along...

Forget De Beers and Tiffany's—it seems that Kate, Chloe and Victoria Ratliff (occasionally) prefer their jewels of the decidedly more affordable kind. And you can still shop most of their pieces, too.

The jewellery brand we've spotted the most in The White Lotus season three is none other than Missoma. Kate first wore a pair of the London-based brand's mini gold hoops all the way back in episode one, and has kept them on practically ever since—alongside her signature gold Cartier Love bangles, of course.

Chloe, meanwhile, wore the brand's Zenyu chandelier hoops in episode seven—the same ones previously seen on the Princess of Wales—as well as Lucy Williams' cult horn-design necklace. Victoria Ratliff was also spotted in Missoma's Wavy Ridge Twisted Chubby Medium Hoop Earrings, that retail for a mere £125. At least one aspect of The White Lotus lifestyle is attainable for us mere mortals...

Completedworks is another affordable, London-based jewellery brand that has featured in the series. In episode six, Kate wore a pair of the jade-resin 'Ruffle' earrings, while in the drama-filled seventh episode, Chloe topped her epic 1993 vintage Versace mini-dress with the brand's 'Crumple II' pearl and gold earrings. Needless to say we've already added both to our never-ending wish-list.

Of all the characters, however, it's Kate who has displayed the biggest penchant for affordable jewellery, surprisingly enough. Beyond her everyday Missoma hoops, Leslie Bibb's character also wore a pair of gold spiral earrings from Parisian brand Polène, and showed off a necklace stack made up of pieces from insider-favourite brand Lil Milan.

Her politics might be questionable, but it can't be denied that her taste in jewellery is excellent. Keep scrolling to shop the lot.

Those of us who discover FoundRae have a name: Seekers. Or at least that’s what the cult New York jewellery brand’s founder Beth Hutchens likes to call fans of her autobiographical jewels. And now, we no longer have to seek quite so far to find them, as FoundRae is now available in London department store Liberty.

“We’re so excited about it,” Hutchens says, a big smile crossing her face. Though the brand has already been on sale in London, through department store Browns, and has a strong following here (after the US, Brits are the most enthusiastic Seekers), the move into Liberty is major. “It's going to really feel like a FoundRae experience,” she says.

If you haven’t heard of FoundRae before, let me give you a little run down. Hutchens launched the brand in 2015, and focused on building “a lexicon” of symbolic 18-carat gold jewellery with which you can tell the story of your life. Her iconic medallions, which can be attached to chunky chains or bracelets, each carry powerful symbolism. This could be: a zodiac sign; auspicious numerology; precious initials; a compass to steer you through tough times; or a romantic engraving, such as qu'hier, que demain, (French for ‘more than yesterday and less than tomorrow’).

It also has a collection of gold stacking rings, signets and cigar bands, decorated with diamonds, coloured gemstones, engravings or enamels. As well as hoop earrings and huggies that carry mini medallions, or bright gems.

The latest FoundRae jewellery collection, Starry Starry night, pulls together lunar symbols, and otherworldly colour-changing tanzanites. There is always newness at the brand, with Hutchens releasing new pieces every four months so that she can keep pace with her clients ever-changing lives.

FoundRae encourages its collectors to choose what feels personal to them – not what is trending, although the jewels are often seen on fashion’s bellwethers, including Cynthia Erivo and Taylor Swift. Hutchens’ jewels attract those looking to deepen connection with themselves and their spirituality and aspirations, she says – which is the real reason she calls them Seekers. FoundRae fans are often seeking personal growth and discovery.

This is why Hutchens is so excited about the Liberty store, as it will carry a full FoundRae range for collectors to browse. “Our jewellery [pieces] are tools of self discovery and self expression,” she says. “And, so, we want to make sure that everyone understands the significance of each piece. We want to empower people to create something truly unique for themselves, so they really become the designer.”

FoundRae officially landed at Liberty at the end of 2024, and there are already plans in place to expand the in-store boutique by April, such is the lure of its meaning-fuelled future heirlooms. And should you visit, do make sure to look out for an exclusive Liberty Foundrae charm. The brand’s Los Angeles store has a cherub (for the City of Angels), Miami has a shell (for its famous beaches), and London… well, Hutchens isn’t quite ready to share what it is, but she promises that the London store will also be able to tell its story in gold and diamonds.
