Now settled back in England permanently, Sophie discussed the difficult reasons behind her decision to return to British capital, but shared that she's 'so happy' she's back. In a new cover interview for Harper's Bazaar, Sophie said: "It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England. I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family.

"I was away for so long – six years – and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant. I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, 'I never got to touch your belly.' We didn’t have those key experiences with each other."

Explaining that she would 'stock up on a month's worth of chocolate' from British shops when she lived abroad, Sophie also touched on the political climate in the US and explained that it also had an impact on her decision to return to the UK. She added: "The gun violence, Roe v Wade being overturned... Everything just kind of piled on."

In an interview with British Vogue earlier this year, Sophie also shared what made her most 'unhappy' during her split with the Jonas Brothers singer, stating: "Those were the worst few days of my life. I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out."

At the time, the narrative around Sophie and Joe's divorce was criticised as 'deeply sexist' with 'anonymous sources' inciting blame on Sophie for the breakdown of their marriage and questioning her parenting.

Sophie is now dating aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, and the pair recently confirmed their relationship on Instagram after months of speculation.

The timing of the post is particularly interesting, as Sophie's divorce from Joe Jonas was finalised just days ago, on 11 September, as reported by the Associated Press.

Sophie was first spotted with Peregrine back in October, when The Sun published photos of the pair kissing in Paris. Since then, they've been spotted together on a few occasions, and made their public debut in February, when they attended Stanley Zhu's Year of Dragon Celebration in London together.

In July, they were photographed attending the launch party for Margot Robbie's gin brand, also in London.

All that to say it wasn't exactly a secret that Sophie was dating her new beau, but we all know that going Instagram-official is a crucial step for modern relationships, so!

As for Peregrine, he's set to become Viscount Cowdray after his father Michael Pearson, and he co-founded property development company Weetman. He goes by "Perry" and his Instagram account is very sadly (for us) private.

Reports of their split first surfaced on Sunday, before Jonas and Turner had released their statement. The details - that Jonas was the one filing for divorce and that their children were currently with him whilst she was in the UK, were already skewed against Turner.

However with the internet set upon finding a reason for the split, what has followed since has been far more sinister.

A slew of misogynistic misinformation has been released online, with "anonymous sources" spinning story after story inciting blame for the split on Turner and painting her as a bad and negligent mother.

Many of these reports centred around the fact that according to them Turner "likes to party" whereas Joe Jonas "is more of a homebody", prompting skewed speculation that Turner's lifestyle was to blame for their separation - and consequently calling it into question.

Next came photographs of the 27-year-old at a bar, with anonymous reports that she was "downing shots" on a "wild night out" that was actually just her and her co-stars' wrap party for Joan, the project that she has been working on in the United Kingdom.

Some of these "anonymous sources" even went so far as to imply that Turner had done something dubious, with a report that "multiple sources who have direct contact with Joe [had told] TMZ" that "Joe had access to a ring cam that he said captured Sophie saying and/or doing something that made him realize the marriage was over."

We've seen it time and again in high profile splits, with the internet appearing hellbent on finding blame for the separation.

In this case, it has been put on Turner - a 27-year-old working mother of two who is now being vilified for just that. And despite their statement calling the split "amicable" and her dignified silence, the internet seems determined to paint Turner as the sinner and Jonas as the saint.

This narrative has to stop. It's misogynistic, it's tired and there's no place for it in 2023.

Thankfully many agree, with people taking to social media to post their support for Turner en masse. 

"Four years, two pregnancies. A career on hold. When exactly was Miss Sophie Turner partying?," posted one user. Another added: "Can we stop portraying Sophie Turner as some careless mother maybe?? Parents can enjoy time for themselves and if that time involves partying then good on her, her life didn't end when she became a mother as much as some of you like to think it should have."

This smear campaign against Sophie Turner has to end - as does the "he said, she said" narrative that has ensued. 

Now let's take Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas' word that it's an "amicable" and "mutual" separation and give respecting their wishes for privacy another go.

"I was going through this phase of being very mentally unwell,' the 27-year-old revealed of the difficult period of her life when the couple first met. "He was, like, 'I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself.' That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way."

She later elaborated in an interview with Marie Claire Australia, explaining: "When someone tells you they love you every day, it makes you really think about why that is, and I think that makes you love yourself a bit more. So yeah, I love myself."

According to documents obtained by Today via The Independent, Joe filed a petition for dissolution of marriage on 5 September, stating that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken".

The Hollywood couple have been married since 2019, and share two daughters together - the first born in 2020, and the second last summer.

Joe Jonas is reportedly seeking joint custody of their two daughters.

"They were not separated but they've been living separate lives for months," an insider reportedly told People following reports of their split, adding that the pair had spent "the whole summer" apart.

"As far as custody goes, this literally all just happened, so they're figuring it out in real time," the source continued. "As a family, they were based in Florida. The kids were with him the last few months, traveling with him with family while he's been on tour. Sophie's been working in the UK."

Set to 'Got Me Good' by the band DNCE (of which Jonas is the lead singer), the reel is a sweet montage of moments with Sophie and of the couple together.

It starts with a video of a glam looking Sophie at a restaurant, where she grins coyly at her husband once she realises he's filming. There are also intimate clips of the couple cuddling in bed and several images from both of their wedding ceremonies.

He captioned the post: “Started from the bottom now we're here.” He then asked his 12.8 million followers to share their own love story and has since re-shared them on his stories.

Sophie, 26 and Joe, 32, welcomed their first daughter, Willa, into the world in July 2020, and now two years later they are a family of four.

Sophie confirmed they were expanding their brood at the Met Gala in May this year, after growing speculation months prior.

She has previously praised motherhood, and insisted watching her daughter grow is "the greatest thing" in her life.

She told Elle UK: "It's what life is about for me – raising the next generation. The greatest thing in life is seeing my daughter go from strength to strength. We're so excited to be expanding the family. It's the best blessing ever."

The X-Men: Dark Phoenix star has also revealed her and her singer-songwriter beau - who tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2019 before a larger celebration in France the next month - strive to keep their family life, and daughters, out of the public eye.

Although they never confirmed that they were expecting, the actress was spotted with a baby bump during lockdown while walking with Joe in Los Angeles.

In a statement to People, they confirmed the arrival of their little one, saying: 'Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are delighted to announce the birth of their baby.'

According to a TMZ report, Sophie gave birth to a baby girl and an insider told Entertainment Tonight: 'Joe and Sophie welcomed a baby girl last Wednesday in LA and are over the moon.

'The couple are already obsessed and can’t stop gloating about their new addition.'

And people are already drawing comparisons between their newborn's name and Game of Thrones. Sophie played Sansa Stark for eight seasons, and reports reveal that they decided to name their little one Willa.

There are two characters in the series that go by this moniker; a wildling who appeared in the show during the fifth season, and a Stark servant at Winterfell during season eight.

Fans have noticed the nod to the HBO series, with one tweeting: 'Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas just became parents and apparently their daughter is named Willa. And thats a game of thrones name. And a Stark name. That’s just so cool I can’t.'

So not only is it a beautiful name, it also appears to be a nod to the show that catapulted Sophie into the Hollywood spotlight.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are officially married (again) after a second wedding ceremony in France, in a gorgeous Chateau which you can actually rent out on Airbnb.

For her first wedding in Vegas, Sophie wore an understated vintage-style jumpsuit, but for this one it was another story altogether.

The bride wore Louis Vuitton, and shared a first picture of her wedding dress on Instagram last night, simply captioning it 'Mr & Mrs Jonas'.

The stunning gown featured a plunging neckline, sash, full skirt and appeared to me made out of lace. Sophie finished off the look with a white veil.

Meanwhile, Nicolas Ghesquiere, artistic director at Louis Vuitton, share a snap from the back of the dress, and it looked even more beautiful, with a keyhole cut out detail and chic embroidery.

This weekend, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas got married for a second time and the pictures are just too much. Not only did we fall in love with Sophie's very traditional wedding dress, but we were thrilled to see that the couple's pup Porky Basquiat was an honoured guest wearing his very own doggy tux. The good boy literally stole the show.

Sophie Turner won our hearts playing Sansa, an empowered, resilient and fiery woman, but most recently in opening up about her own real life struggles with mental health.

The 23-year-old actress has very honestly spoken about her battle with depression and the turbulent ride that comes with growing up in the limelight. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Sophie said that therapy was extremely important in her recovery and how falling in love has been her salvation.

'I was going through this phase of being very mentally unwell,' Sophie revealed of when she first met Joe. 'He was, like, "I can’t be with you until you love yourself, I can’t see you love me more than you love yourself." That was something, him doing that. I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.'

Sophie and Joe Jonas' relationship has had lots of attention as they prove they are definitely #couplegoals. Earlier this month, Elvis married them in a fun Las Vegas wedding to a small group of friends and family.

Thankfully, she’s doing a lot better and although she mentions that the pair broke up once, even if it was just for a day. 'It was the worst day of our lives,' she says. 'For a second, we both had cold feet. Then 24 hours later, we were both like, "Never mind."'

It is this strong connection that she has with Joe that is helping her thrive and gain confidence in herself. The final Game of Thrones episode aired this week, with its conclusion drawing a mixed reception.

In fact, the whole way through season eight, viewers have been divided in their opinions, with it not only proving controversial in terms of the plot, but also in terms of blunders, from Emilia Clarke’s Stabucks latte and Samwell Tarley’s water bottle being left in shot, to Jaime Lannister’s severed hand appearing to grow back for his final scene.

This week, it was Sophie Turner who made the most news however, as fans realised that she had actually dropped a pretty huge ending spoiler a year ago, something that none of us picked up on.

Last June, Sophie got inked to commemorate Game of Thrones after filming, opting for the Stark house wolf, alongside the season 7 quote, ‘The pack survives’.

Having now seen the final episode however, we know that the Stark pack does survive, with Sansa, Arya, Bran and John Snow all among the living characters at the end.

So, yes, the pack does survive and we should all have seen it coming.

When asked by James Corden on The Late Late Show whether it was a spoiler however, she announced that it wasn’t, explaining it was a moral she likes ‘to live by’.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ wedding was reportedly set for this summer in France, with the nuptials quickly becoming one of the most highly-anticipated events of the year.

There was reported to be a star-studded guest list in place, more Game of Thrones cameos than the Red Wedding and even Sophie Turner’s onscreen sister and real-life BFF Maisie Williams as a bridesmaid.

Fans were surprised therefore when it was announced yesterday that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had eloped to Las Vegas this week.

Yes, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are officially married - and apparently, it all happened very last minute.

In fact, it was so last minute that Sophie didn’t even call her mother until the evening of the wedding to let her know.

It seems there are no hard feelings however, with Sophie’s mum reportedly telling the Daily Mail that she was ‘absolutely delighted and so is [her] husband Andrew’.

It was Maisie Williams however whose absence made the most noise, with only a few people present.

The rest of the Jonas brothers were there of course, as was Khalid, Diplo and musicians Dan and Shay.

But in place of Maisie, Sophie had her now sister-in-law, and fellow J-sister, Priyanka Chopra as her maid of honour.

Luckily, it looks like there will be a second wedding for Sophie and Joe in France, and we've got a feeling Maisie will get to be bridesmaid.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas tied the knot in a surprise wedding ceremony in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, just moments after the Jonas Brothers performed at the Billboard Music Awards.

The couple - who met in 2016 and got engaged one year later - exchanged vows at Chapel L’Amour inside A Little White Wedding Chapel, which was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator.

While some fans want to know where to buy the Game of Thrones star's Gucci shoes, others are questioning if there will be another wedding ceremony.

It has been reported the couple will tie the knot again in France, but they had to get married in America first to legalise their vows.

A source told PEOPLE: 'They had to get married in the States to make it legal, but the wedding is still in Europe.'

Joe, 29, previously revealed he and Sophie were planning to tie the knot in France, and knew to stock up on the alcohol after Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra's wedding.

However, a French religious ceremony for international couples is not legally binding, unless they have resided in the country for over 30 days, as stated in the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in France documentation.

It reads: 'In France a religious ceremony does not constitute a legal marriage.'

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas got married in Vegas yesterday and basically surprised everyone with their unconventional wedding, right down to the bride's outfit.

As the ceremony was quite casual (Elvis officiated after all), Sophie didn't opt for a ballgown, but instead wore a sleek white silk jumpsuit from Bevza, teamed with a veil.

It was fitted at the waist and had wide legs, fitting in quite nicely with the rock 'n' roll vibe.

When it came to her wedding shoes, she didn't go all trad either. The Game of Thrones star chose gold lamé knot mules by cult-favourite Loeffler Randall, which also come in silver, should you wish to recreate her look.

The couple tie the knot in front of close friends and family, who included the Jonas brothers of course, apparently exchanging ring pops instead of the usual wedding rings.

Sophie previously opened up about her engagement to Marie Claire, saying, 'I'm still like, Holy [expletive]! I'm engaged. There's this weird misconception that being married is the greatest thing that'll ever happen to you.

'But I've always found that my career is something I work for, and when I achieve something, there's a sense that this is the greatest thing I'll do in my life. It's lovely to be engaged. Not like I achieved anything, but I found my person, like I'd find a house that I love and want to stay in forever. There's a sense of peace that comes with finding your person. Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have tied the knot in the best way possible, in Las Vegas, and just hours after the Billboard Music Awards, where the Jonas Brothers performed.

The couple - who have been dating in 2016 - walked down the aisle and exchanged vows at the Chapel L'Amour in the Little White Wedding Chapel yesterday.

The surprise ceremony, which is believed to have cost $600, was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator, while music duo Dan and Shay performed at the do.

Joe was joined by his brothers Nick Jonas - who married Priyanka Chopra last year - and Kevin Jonas, as well as Diplo and BMA attendees.

Diplo took to Instagram to share their special moment with social media followers in a Live Story, and we couldn't be more grateful.

The footage captured the Game of Thrones actress walking down the aisle in a white jumpsuit, veil and Gucci heels, and Joe's reaction when he locked eyes on his bride.

In the video Sophie can be heard saying: 'I thee wed.... and I love you... and I thank God He gave me you', before the couple say in unison: 'I promise you, I will never leave you. I will love and trust you all the days of my life.'

Once the vows were exchanged Sophie licked the ring, and then they locked the lips.

The pair were then seen dancing around the venue as Elvis sang to the crowd, before they posed on the pink Cadillac outside.

However, the couple have previously insisted they would have a Summer wedding and tie the knot in France, so perhaps a second wedding is on the cards?

Only time will tell.

Sophie Turner has opened up about her battle with depression in a very honest interview, and we love her even more for it.

The 23-year-old actress stole our hearts in Game of Thrones, she has given us all the #couplegoals we need with her adorable moments with fiancé Joe Jonas, and she's done it again when she bravely opened up about her personal struggles.

Unbeknown to all of us Sophie sought comfort in her GoT co-star Maisie Williams, who also struggled with mental health.

Speaking on Dr. Phil's Phil in the Blanks podcast, a teary Sophie recalled: 'I had no motivation to do anything or go out.

'Even with my best friends, I wouldn't want to see them... I would cry and cry and cry. Just having to change and put on clothes, I said, "I can't do this. I can't go outside. I have nothing that I want to do."'

Sophie has insisted she has turned a corner after seeking help from a therapist, although she has also praised her future hubby for giving her a boost in confidence.

She added: 'I love myself now, or more than I used to.

'I'm now with someone that makes me realise, you know, that I do have some redeeming qualities, I suppose, and when someone tells you they love you every day, it makes you realise why that is, and I think it makes you love yourself a bit more.'

The Game of Thrones actress and her singer beau have vowed to stock up on the alcohol for their French wedding, because it ran out at Nick's ceremony.

Speaking on the Zach Sang Show, the Cake By The Ocean singer said: 'I mean, we are getting married in France, so a lot of Coors Light is necessary.

'Not hard, really, to get that, but we needed to make sure that was going to happen.'

Nick explained the blip from his marital ceremony, he said: 'We learned a lesson from my wedding. Our friends drink a lot of beer, specifically, and we ran out of beer at the wedding, at my wedding, which was a big issue.'

Although Joe and Sophie have confirmed where they are tying the knot, they have yet to divulge WHEN they will be walking down the aisle.

Although the pair have previously hinted it will be a summer ceremony.

Game of Thrones season 8 is fast approaching and the world is waiting. Kit Harington might have been sick of it by the end of filming, but we're just getting started. We've waited eighteen long months for this - and we're well and truly ready for every single spoiler and speculative Reddit thread.

And Sophie Turner has been giving fans what they want when it comes to GOT news. We already know that she was put on a hair wash ban during filming, and that she may or may not be a baddie again (which, FYI, is entirely speculation, but the clues are there).

Okay, they're hardly concrete spoilers but we need as much intel as we can get right now.

And you'll be getting a whole lot more if you actually bump into Sophie and ask her about how the show ends because it turns out that she's been telling everyone. Against the rules, probably, but she admitted she's 'terrible' at keeping secrets.

In an interview with W, Sophie said: 'I'm so bad at keeping secrets. I don't think people tell me things anymore because they know that I can't keep them. I've already told the ending of Game of Thrones to a few people.'

Continuing that she was stone cold sober when she revealed the ending to her pals (no room for the old 'too many G+T's' excuse), she explained: 'I was like, "Hey, if you want to know, I'll tell you." But it's people that I know, not random people. It's people that I know will keep the secret.'

However, it seems that when talking to the media she is remaining tight-lipped. Sad.

Kit has also spoken about letting spoilers slip, declaring that he's so secretive he hasn't even told his wife and former co-star, Rose Leslie, about how it all wraps up.

Being part of a huge film or TV franchise is something we've all dreamt about, from the cast becoming a second family to the behind-the-scenes fun.

But according to the actors and actresses that have been there, it also has its disadvantages.

Emma Watson has explained that while playing Hermione in the eight Harry Potter films, she wasn't allowed to cut her hair, and HP's Rupert Grint (Ron) admitted that none of them were allowed to go skiing or do anything dangerous, so as to ensure continuity in the series.

But it was Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner who opened up about the ties that come with filming an iconic series this week, explaining that she and other members of the GoT cast weren't allowed to wash their hair.

Yes, this is not a drill. Sophie Turner wasn't allowed to wash her hair during Game of Thrones.

'For the first few seasons I was allowed to wash my hair because I was an aristocratic young girl,' Sophie explained in an interview with InStyle. 

'Towards season 5 they started asking me to not wash my hair and it was really disgusting,' she went on to admit. 'Now I wear I wig so I can wash my hair whenever I want, which is nice. But yes, for a couple of years I was living with pretty greasy hair.'

When asked if it was itchy, the 22-year-old replied, 'Really itchy! Also, we would have the snow machines going so we would have little snow paper particles that would get stuck in the grease. It was disgusting.'

We still think it's worth it to star in Game of Thrones to be honest.

But the Game of Thrones star made headlines this week for another reason, as she took down 53-year-old TV presenter Piers Morgan, after he voiced his controversial views on mental health.

The divisive Good morning Britain presenter shared an article to Twitter, in which actress Beverley Callard expressed concern for celebrities trying to make mental health ‘fashionable’.

Voicing his support, he captioned the post: ’She’ll be hammered for saying this, but 100% true’.

But as a keen advocate for mental health, Sophie Turner was having none of it, giving Piers a serious dressing down.

‘Or maybe they have a platform to speak out about it and help get rid of the stigma of mental illness which affects 1 in 4 people in UK per year,’ she posted to Twitter alongside his initial comment. ‘But please go ahead and shun them back into silence. Twat.’

She continued: ‘People who think it’s okay to make jokes about mental illness, I feel you must be lucky, because surely you don’t understand or can’t comprehend what it is like to have or know someone with an illness like this.’

‘Depression is the second biggest killer in affluent Europe and America. One of the greatest reasons being, I believe, is because mental illness has so much stigma surrounding it. If we can just all speak out about our experiences or our loved ones experiences we can help other people who suffer with mental illness not feel so alone. Let’s keep this dialogue going.’

She concluded: ‘You are not alone, you can manage your illness, and people who make fun of it are the minority... not you. You are loved and supported.’

You know you've got a high-street hit on your hands either when it blows up Instagram, or when all the celebrities are wearing it - let's face it, if you've got your pick of all the designer items, you're not likely to shop on the high street.

And Sienna Miller, Sophie Turner and Priyanka Chopra are all fans of a brown Mango coat this season.

The longline tailored coat is part of the AW18 collection, and features a classic collar and button fastening.

Sienna wore hers over jeans while travelling at Heathrow, while Sophie Turner wore it out on a date night in London with her fiancé Joe Jonas.

Meanwhile, either Priyanka Chopra borrowed the coat off her sister-in-law, or loved it so much she bought her own, because she too was spotted wearing it this winter. She dressed it up with a printed blouse and wide leg trousers, while Sienna and Sophie teamed it with jeans for a more casual look.

Any Game of Thrones fan by now will know that the HBO fantasy will never give you what you want. A happy family unit? For a few episodes, then your wife and kids will be forced to watch your public execution. True love? Sure, for a second, before somebody murders your pregnant wife in front of you in cold blood. And now that the series is drawing to an end, apparently the show’s grand finale is going to be a divisive one too and GoT's Sophie Turner thinks it’s not going to please anyone.

Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, spoke to IGN about the anticipated final series next year and was pressed on the end of the entire show. She said, ‘I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon.’

There’s a lot to unpack here. You can take this a few ways: does this mean we’ll get a miserable ending that makes total sense for Game of Thrones, but keeps all our favourite characters from true happiness?

Or, does this mean that we’ll get a happy ending that would make no sense because joy and closure are things that don’t exist in Westeros? If we were betting people, we’d put our money on the first TBH – especially after what she said next.

Sophie said there were 'a lot of tears' and continued, ‘I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking.’

Okay, now we’re really worried. Heartbreaking?! We had steeled ourselves for the death of at least one of our favourite characters, but now we’re prepping to have joint memorial services for everyone in the show.

Even if she thinks the ending will be divisive, Sophie’s pretty happy with the way it all turned out. She said, ‘As an actor it was really satisfying. I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines — to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us. Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans.’

Well, there’s only one way to find out and it’s a long, hard few months away. The next and final seven-episode series of Game of Thrones is set to drop next year, though no exact release date has been announced yet. We know that the show’s motto is Valar Morghulis, a.k.a. ‘All men must die’, but we really hope they don’t double down on that in 2019.

The women of Game of Thrones battle no end of horror in the fantasy epic, fighting sexual harassment, sexism and political machinations to find their place in Westeros. Sound familiar? Well, you’re not the only one who’s noticed as cast member Sophie Turner has drawn parallels between Game of Thrones and the #MeToo movement.

In an interview with Screen Daily, the actress delved into her character Sansa Stark’s harrowing and sometimes difficult-to-watch storyline which includes her rape at the hands of Ramsay Bolton, frequent imprisonment and political relationships. While she started as one of the show’s weakest characters, she’s now become a fully fledged avenging angel ready to take her place on the world’s stage.

‘It’s funny the way [my storyline] is kind of mirroring what’s happening in real life, in every industry right now,’ Sophie said. ‘It’s really interesting how all of these women who were subjected to a lot of horror and oppression are taking a stand against the people who have done this to them. I think that’s why I connected with the #MeToo movement so much. Not just because of being a woman and obviously being a feminist, but also that character.’

Sophie Turner is a staunch supporter of the TIMES UP and #MeToo movement, as she previously helped fundraise for TIMES UP’s legal defense fund on Instagram and posted a message ahead of the all-black Golden Globes to show her solidarity with those affected. (She wasn’t actually in attendance, however.)

Sophie reflected on her character’s arc, saying, ‘It’s a really powerful message, the fact that she went through all of those things and she’s come out the other side. She’s used everything she’s learnt up until now to her benefit. She endured so much horror and really was a prisoner season-by-season. She took all of that, and now she has become stronger for it.’

The #MeToo movement has fiercely raged on, with this year’s recent Cannes festival led by Cate Blanchett becoming one of the most political yet and actors like Frances McDormand and Brie Larson calling for greater diversity in the industry. As women and their allies shine a light on the dark parts of Hollywood, Sophie also feels that entertainment needs to both respond to and also be a getaway from reality.

She said, ‘Our role as filmmakers is to hold a mirror up to society. At the same time, I think it’s very important to have that escapism. That’s why Game Of Thrones is such a wonderful show. It provides both of those things.’

The next series of Game of Thrones will be its final run, with just six episodes to wrap up the mammoth story. While a release date hasn’t been formally been announced, the series has finished filming and will be screened at some point next year.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Game of Thrones fans, steel yourselves. We might finally know how the dramatic HBO fantasy shakes out and who wins a place on the Iron Throne thanks to a bit of ink. A tattoo artist claiming to have inked Sophie Turner revealed a picture of her work and the internet has gone full on speculation nation, as it seems to hint that the Stark family comes out victorious.

The blockbuster show recently wrapped filming its final season and the cast celebrated in style at a massive Belfast party, where everybody got a little tipsy and things escalated with Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke attempting that Dirty Dancing lift. It seems like Sophie Turner wanted a more lasting celebration of the show she essentially grew up on, as tattoo artist Lauren Winzer revealed a fresh new direwolf tattoo that appears to belong Sophie Turner.

However, it was the words underneath House Stark’s sigil that blew everybody’s minds. They read, ‘The pack survives.’

Cue the sound of a million fans screaming all at once. What does it mean? Does it mean that the Starks win the Iron Throne? Does that mean Sansa survives? Is it metaphorical and none of them survive? WE NEED SOME ANSWERS.

Immediately, avid fans flooded the comments. One user called @hellohemmy decided to go straight to the source and tagged Sophie saying, ‘Is this a spoiler? @sophiet’

Unsurprisingly, Sophie didn’t respond.

Others made up their own minds about what it meant, with one user @wolfsbaneandsilver saying, ‘She survives! Shut your pieholes you haters!’

Another called @pau_inlaw86 made a bolder claim, saying, ‘sansa, arya and Bran will survive to the great war’.

However one user called @gerzzzey suggested what we think is the most likely answer, saying, ‘Just bec a tattoo said “the pack survives” doesn’t mean it’s a spoiler and the starks survived. The phrase came from her monologue back in S7 ! Why aren’t people thinking about that?’

They’re of course referring to an emotional moment between Sansa and Arya Stark during the final episode of season seven, when the reunited sisters stood on Winterfell’s battlements and quoted their late father Ned Stark’s motto.

The phrase goes, ‘The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.’

While Sophie hasn’t confirmed whether or not she’s the person in Lauren’s photograph - she’d be far from the last cast member thinking of grabbing a Game of Thrones tattoo. In fact, she and her co-star Maisie Williams already have matching tatts of the date they both found out they had landed their roles.

Emilia Clarke of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons also recently revealed that she wants a little dragon tattoo on her wrist.

She said in a Live! With Kelly and Ryan interview, ‘I’m going to get a dragon right here, kind of flying away. So I think that’s cool. A little kind of peace out.’

We’re not even going to try to read into that one.

We’ll have to wait until next year to find out whether any of our wild theories about Sansa and House Stark are true, as the final Game of Thrones episodes will be released some point in 2019.

Sophie Turner is shaping up to be one of Game of Thrones’ most exciting success stories and is officially one half of an LA power couple, but how did she get there? Hard work, patience and not being afraid to lay down her own ground rules.

During a recent interview with Refinery29, Sophie explained what she would and would not be comfortable doing for a role. And while most actresses would leap to the topic of nudity clauses, Sophie’s stipulation was a little different - focusing instead on her beautiful head of hair.

‘I don’t think I could voluntarily shave my head for fear of what it would look like,’ she explained. ‘I have a tiny pea head and broad shoulders, so I don’t think I could do a really short haircut. But who knows? When Game of Thrones comes to an end, maybe I’ll have something of an Emma Watson cutting her hair short moment - maybe I’ll go crazy.’

Hair is clearly important to 22-year-old Sophie, with the actress going on to explain the effect that it has on her confidence.

‘It’s almost like I have a split personality,’ she explained to Refinery29. ‘My redhead persona is Sansa - she’s so strong and independent. So red, to me, is the ultimate strength. I’d like to think of it as my Sasha Fierce moment, but I’m no Beyonce. With the blond, it’s like I’m back to being Sophie. That felt empowering as well because I was leaving my teenage years behind and becoming a woman.’

In a recent interview with Nova 96.9’s Smallzy, the Pitch Perfect star — who previously collaborated with Jonas’s band DNCE on 'Rock Bottom,' — revealed that she’s the one who encouraged Turner when the Game of Thrones actress asked her to vouch for Joe.

'So Joe just got engaged to my really good friend Sophie Turner, and I'm freaking out about it,' Hailee Steinfeld shared. 'I mean, I will say, I did get that text from Sophie being like, ‘So tell me about Joe,’ and I was like ‘Go for it!''

And she’s *so* excited for the happy couple.

'I actually just saw them both for the first time since they got engaged; I saw them together,' she added. 'And yeah, I mean, I’m freaking out about it.'

We wish we knew more about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s upcoming nuptials, but one thing’s for sure: They’ll soon be sending Hailee Steinfeld a raven with an invite to the wedding.

A girl has a name — and a new role! Maisie Williams (aka Arya Stark) has just landed an awesome new part, though this one won’t be in Hollywood. The 20-year-old will be a bridesmaid in her BFF Sophie Turner’s wedding to Joe Jonas.

Yup, Arya will be assisting Sansa on her big day.

When asked by RadioTimes.com in an interview published Sunday whether she would be a bridesmaid, she confirmed, ‘I’ve already got it.’

But unlike Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, who have said that they’ll pause filming on Game of Thrones for their nuptials, Turner and Jonas are waiting until the final season wraps before saying, ‘I do.’

‘We’re waiting until this season’s done until we get into any of that but I think she’s already let her little heart wander and imagine,’ Williams said of the wedding planning process.

The actress also let us in on a few details from Game of Thrones Season 8, and hyped up the anticipation even further. ‘It’s either going to be everything that everyone dreamed of or it’s going to be disappointing,’ she said.

‘It depends what side of the fence you sit on because there’s definitely going to be that divide. It depends what people want from the final season. I love it, but you never know.’

So what colour can we expect to see on Turner’s bridesmaids? Let’s hope anything but red.

Say it ain't so! Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner just let slip that the final season of the epic HBO show won't return until 2019. That means fans will be waiting what could be two years for the remaining six episodes.

While HBO has yet to confirm the news, in a new interview with Variety Turner said that: 'Game of Thrones comes out in 2019.' UGH.

The show is currently filming the final season now and will continue to film until summer 2018, so with production schedules it does make sense. However, that doesn't mean we're not crushed that we'll have to wait forever to find out the fate of our favourite characters.

Thankfully, during her interview with Variety Turner did give some insight to what Sansa's storyline. 'This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it... This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight.'

Obviously not much else is known about what the next season has in store for fans, former GoT star Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo, visited the set in Belfast recently and is already raving about what he saw. 'It’s going to be the greatest thing that’s ever aired on TV. It’s going to be unbelievable. It’s going to f— up a lot of people.'

Can we agree to just fast-forward 2018 so we can get to 2019?

She's actually made a very good point

Although beloved by many, HBO’s Game of Thrones has sparked several controversies throughout the years regarding its portrayal of both rape and nudity. One of the show’s major characters, Sansa Stark, was the victim of a horrific and controversial rape in Season 5.

But Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa, was angry at the public’s response to the scene.

In a recent interview with Marie Claire US, Turner shared her opinions on the backlash the scene inspired among viewers. She said,

'I was happy people were talking about it. But I was angry they put all their effort into [debating] a television sexual assault when it happens around the world every day, and you barely hear of it.'

Turner’s recent statement are in line with previous comments she made to TIME earlier this year. In the article, she asserts that Sansa’s rape, perpetrated by her then-onscreen husband Ramsay Bolton, was used to bolster her drive to gain independence.

But many saw it as yet another example of sexual assault used for the sake of entertainment.

'This was the trending topic on Twitter,' Turner said to TIME, 'and it makes you wonder, when it happens in real life, why isn’t it a trending topic every time?'

'This was a fictional character, and I got to walk away from it unscathed,' she continued. 'Let’s take that discussion and that dialogue and use it to help people who are going through that in their everyday lives. Stop making it such a taboo, and make it a discussion.'

While it’s understandable that many take issue with onscreen sexual violence, Turner raises an interesting point: Why are fictional portrayals of assault acceptable to talk about openly when real-life victims are so often shamed into silence? Why can we all agree that Sansa was a victim, when so many real-life women are doubted and belittled when they come forward?

Whether you believe the controversial scene was a necessary part of Sansa’s development or not, we think that conversations involving power dynamics, assault, and victimhood should be the norm, not the exception, when a fictional show happens to bring them to our attention.

Let’s use this as a reminder to stay focused and aware of these issues every day, because as Turner pointed out, it’s happening every day.

A wedding is coming

When Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas announced their engagement to the world on Sunday, the Internet collectively freaked out, erupting in Game of Thrones jokes and hilarious Camp Rock references.

While fans couldn’t hold in their excitement, we were waiting to see how the other most important person in Sophie Turner’s life would react. We are, of course, referring to her Game of Thrones co-star and fellow Stark sister, Maisie Williams.

Williams made us wait until Monday for her response to the news, but her message was certainly worth the extra 24 hours. Williams reposted her BFF’s engagement announcement photo, stunning ring and all, and wrote a heartfelt note alongside it.

‘Congratulations to my beautiful girlfriend on her engagement,’ she wrote. ‘This is just one of MANY life milestones we’ll share. Love you both.’

Her hashtags, though, tell the real story. She used ‘#mophie,’ her friendship nickname with Sophie, followed by ‘#jophie,’ Joe and Sophie’s couple name. And ‘#holymoly’ just sums the whole dang thing up.

Great news from one of our favourite star couples today: singer Joe Jonas, 28, and actress Sophie Turner, 21, are engaged!

The two announced the news in the most adorable (Instagram) way possible, each posting a photo of the ring on the Game of Thrones star’s hand. (How about that rock, by the way?) The ring is a double band with a flawless, tastefully-sized diamond perched in the middle. In the photo, Turner rests her hand over now-fiancé Jonas’s - too sweet!

The 21-year-old actress captioned her photo 'I said yes,' while Jonas, in his matching post, wrote 'She said yes.'

As the couple have often been seen in coordinating outfits, it makes sense that their ‘grams are in sync too.

Turner’s real life love life is basically the opposite from her unlucky one on Game of Thrones. She and Jonas have been together and clearly quite smitten for almost a year now, and we are excited for this next stage of their relationship.

Not to mention their wedding!

Arya and Sansa Stark finally reunited after years apart. And while it was tears of joy for Thrones fans, Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner were actually embarrassed to act together again.

Game of Thrones Season 7 has been full of reunions and finally seeing this duo together again in Winterfell warmed our hearts. And you know what else had that effect? It turns out real-life BFFs Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner were nervous to act with each other again because they’re such great friends.

Williams told Entertainment Weekly how it felt to act with Turner again:

'It was the weirdest thing when we shot our first scene together. We were both embarrassed to do our thing in front of each other. It took a few hours for us to get serious and actually do it. Later it was fine on set and we could concentrate, but it was so hard to get into character with Sophie in front of me.'

SO CUTE. And Turner felt the same way:

'We couldn’t keep a straight face! Our relationship is so close, but it’s only that fun side, never the business side. I was nervous. It just terrified me. It’s like performing for your mom. When somebody is watching you don’t do it quite as well.'

Can you imagine how much fun these two must have on set? It’s hard to believe that the Stark sisters have only just now reunited. But of course, we’re hoping they’ll take down Cersei together.

‘I had the following, so I got the job’

Being active on social media is a key way to get ahead nowadays, with a strong following and ‘Influencer’ status opening a lot of doors and helping you get on the career ladder.

In a recent interview with Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, the actress revealed that having a strong following opens just as many doors when you’re at the top, with the 21-year-old actress crediting her social media status for getting her roles.

Sophie, who plays Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, has a huge following, boasting 5.4 million Instagram fans, 2 million Facebook followers and 1.3 million fans on Twitter – something she insists has helped her to beat out competitors.

‘I auditioned for a project and it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job,’ she explained in an interview with Porter. ‘It’s not right, but it is part of the movie industry now.’

It is hard to know which of Sophie’s upcoming films she was referencing, with the 21-year-old starring in X-Men last year and currently juggling upcoming roles in Time Freak, Berlin, I Love You, and Huntsville.

‘I feel completely in control of my career now, which is nice,’ Sophie told Marie Claire UK in her cover interview this month. ‘When you’re 15, you’re just kind of like a pawn…but now I’m like, “You know, actually I don’t like this”’.

She's shaping up to be one of Game of Thrones' most exciting success stories and is officially one half of an LA power couple. But as Lucy Pavia discovered, our August cover star's bullshit detector remains firmly intact.

There’s a good reason Sophie Turner can remember every detail of her first Game Of Thrones audition: it very nearly didn’t happen. In the summer of 2009, casting directors for a new TV show took their search for two young actresses to schools across the country. Having won rave reviews for her performance of a scarecrow in an amateur production of The Wizard Of Oz, 13-year-old Turner was, naturally, put forward – only, on the day, she forgot, and went to the canteen. Her drama teacher spotted her in the lunch queue and ushered her away. ‘She was like, “Er, Sophie, you have that audition?”’

As she tells me this, I can’t help imagining the alternate reality Sophie Turner who stayed in line for her Angel Delight. Now 21, she’d probably be gearing up for her third year at university and stressing about her student loan, not steaming into her seventh season of what is officially the biggest TV show of all time. She would not be famous, as Sansa Stark, in 170 countries. She would (probably) not be dating a Jonas brother.

Post cover shoot, the heavens have opened and our room in an east London studio rumbles like an empty drum. Turner’s just changed out of a peach Louis Vuitton frock (not before insisting I ‘cop a feel’ of the spongy wool skirt) and sits next to me in a stripy Topshop tee, a pair of teal velour sports shorts and black leather Adidas trainers. Actresses often seem more fragile in the flesh than they do on screen, but with Turner it’s actually the opposite: the cool porcelain Sansa isn’t a match for the vigorous real-life version.

We first met a few hours earlier; I had just arrived off an 11-hour flight in need of coffee and she clapped a hand on my shoulder in commiseration. ‘Jesus, you must be knackered. Have some of this,’ she said, grabbing a plate of purple dip off the lunch buffet table. ‘What is it?’ I asked. ‘Literally no idea, but it’s bloody delicious.’

Teenage exposure to fame can make actors of Turner’s age seem oddly laminated, or prone to referring to themselves as ‘an artist’. But Turner, who appears to exhibit neither of these traits, got the ‘I am an artist’ phase out of the way early – when she was filming season one of GOT. ‘There was a period in my life, when I was 14/15, and I was like, “I want to be seen as a real actress – I can’t fuck around. This is my career,”’ she says, pronouncing career ‘caraar’ and mock fainting into the sofa cushions. ‘Now, I’m like, “Just enjoy it,”’ she sighs. ‘The painful part is finding another job.’

Unemployment is on Turner’s mind right now. At one point it seemed like the HBO juggernaut, with its rich tapestry of characters and seemingly infinite plot lines, could keep chugging on forever, but the show’s bosses confirmed last June that season eight would see the final, dragony showdown. Where does that leave someone who’s spent a third of her life as Sansa Stark? ‘It’s been a huge chunk of my life. When it’s done, it’s going to feel like a death in the family,’ she says. The cast and crew have come to feel like family. When Turner filmed the infamous rape scene of season five, writer Bryan Cogman felt so guilty he put his head in his hands and cried. ‘He was sat there going, “I am so sorry,”’ she says. ‘They had known me since I was 13 and they were like, “This is so wrong.”’ Playing the role has brought dark feelings closer to the surface. ‘I just completely gave everything to her, all of my emotions. I never used to cry when I was younger,’ she says. ‘Now I cry all the time – I am an emotional human being.’

Turner says all this with the glimmer of a smile – she’s got whatever the opposite of a bitchy resting face is, like she’s constantly just heard a good joke. She adds that the feelings of sadness among the cast about the show ending perversely led to ‘a lot of fucking about’ on the Dublin set of season seven. There were frequent cast blowouts around the pool table at a favourite local bar nearby, where punters would walk in and shriek at the sight of the cast hanging out in a group. She shows me the tattoo she shares with co-star-turned-best friend Maisie Williams, a ‘07.08.09’ stamped just below her elbow crease. It’s the date they were cast as Arya and Sansa (at the insistence of her mother, Turner’s is in a subtle apricot-coloured ink, ‘but I’m going to get it darker,’ she warns.)

The two first met when they were paired up at one of the many London auditions that followed the first one at school and got on like a house on fire. ‘Both of us went home and told [our mums], “I really hope that girl gets it.”’ Their friendship has eliminated the otherwise lonely experience of being a young person on a mostly adult set, but it’s also inspired a loyalty that cuts deeper than affectionate tweets and red-carpet bear hugs. ‘We’re so close that I’ve been put up for projects and been like, “[Maisie] you need to go for this.” Then she’ll say, “I said no to this because I think you need to go for this.”’ She looks at me for a moment. ‘I think that’s quite rare.’

I interviewed Turner’s GOT co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (aka Jaime Lannister) a few weeks previously and he said he was astonished that one of them isn’t in rehab by now. ‘I’m impressed with how they’ve dealt with it,’ he said. ‘They seem so sane. Maybe it’s a European thing. I remember reading about the Harry Potter kids and thinking the same.’

Like Emma Watson, Turner doesn’t come from a family of actors. She hails from a small town in Warwickshire. Mum Sally is a primary school teacher, Dad Andrew works for a pallet distribution company. The youngest in the family – she has two older brothers, James and Will – Turner was a twin, but tragically her sister didn’t survive to full term. For some of her darkest Game Of Thrones scenes, including the loss of Sansa’s father Ned (Sean Bean), Turner has tapped into the confusing feelings of loss for the sister she never got to meet. And it was Turner’s mother Sally who got the call from HBO in 2009 to say she’d been cast as Sansa Stark. She deliberated for two days before telling her youngest child she’d won the role. ‘She was panicking and she called my dad and was like, “Do we let her do this? I don’t know what this means.” My dad was like, “You’re so dumb, this is what she’s always wanted to do, you have to let her do it.” So, thanks Dad,’ she says, with a flash of teenager-ish side-eye.

Since the sun never sets on the Game Of Thrones empire, she’s rarely far from a fan with an iPhone. She doesn’t mind selfie-hunters, but people who take stealth pictures drive her nuts. ‘I find it really rude, and I will be rude back. It’s such an invasion of privacy. I could be out with my mum on her birthday and I will ask them to delete it. I would much rather them come up and ask for a photo. I will probably be fine with it...’ She cocks her head and grins, ‘Unless I look shit.’

New developments in her love life can’t be helping her fly under the radar. Last year, she started dating US pop star, DNCE frontman and Gigi Hadid’s ex, Joe Jonas, who found fame in his teens as one of the Jonas Brothers. They met through mutual friends and have already done the ‘meet the parents’ – him joining the Turners in a north London pub; her on a Jonas’ family skiing trip.

They haven’t made things ‘red-carpet official’ yet (groan), but there’s been a tantalising breadcrumb trail in various lob-sided Snapchat videos, and a photo Turner shared to her 4.8 million Instagram followers of Jonas smoking a cigar on the back of a Miami boat. She closes her eyes and smiles when I bring up the new boyfriend. ‘I am very happy’ she says with uncharacteristic restraint. Is he romantic? ‘Ummmm, yeah...’ What does she make of the term ‘Jophie’? She snorts. She’s heard it, but she prefers ‘Mophie’ (a Thrones fan mash-up of Maisie and Sophie). ‘What’s that thing they say?’ She clicks her fingers. ‘Relationships come and go, but friendship is always there.’

The process of starting a relationship can be awkward enough, it must be mortifying to have every hand-holding stroll down the street echoed back by a media chorus. ‘You do feel like you’re living in a fishbowl... It’s frustrating [that] it’s the most mundane things that make the news – how boring! There are really no other headlines?’

It was in fact Justin Bieber, not Jonas, who first stole her heart. She had photo wall of him in her bedroom and stuck confetti collected from his shows with Blu-Tack to her wall. ‘Yeah it was really creepy,’ she laughs. When she finally got to meet him at a party she ‘really, really struggled to keep it cool.’ More recently she met Hillary Clinton at an event for the charity Women For Women. She had no idea an intro was on the cards and had started tucking into the wine when she was ushered into a private area to meet the almost-president. ‘They were like, “You’re going downstairs to meet Hillary Clinton now.” I was like, “Oh my god, yes!”’

Whether the GOT safety net is whipped away this season with Sansa’s death or she lives to see out the series finale, the next chapter looms large, and Turner’s determined to be the one calling the shots. ‘I feel completely in control of my career, which is nice,’ she says. ‘There’s a certain sense when you’re 15 and you’re just kind of like a pawn, and you’ll say “Yeah, I will do what you want.” But now I’m like, “You know, actually I don’t like this.” She has an impressively sage view of LA for someone barely out of her teens, joking about casting sessions where ‘people are like, “I love you”, and then they can’t name anything that you’ve done, and they forget your character’s name – it’s so funny, like LA in the movies.’

Winning the part of Jean Grey in last year’s X-Men franchise was her first big Hollywood coup, after what sounds like a hellish two-day screen test in front of Fox executives who pitched her directly against another actress vying for the part. Watching co-star Jennifer Lawrence on set taught her to be more assertive. ‘She would do a take and be like, “Cut! That was such bad acting!” Her being able to stop [the scene]; it was inspiring to see someone so in control.’

A long career in the spotlight could be on the cards, but Turner seems pretty determined not to have her edges sanded off. ‘I’ve had media training, and I hated it,’ she admits. ‘I think people appreciate honesty... [Seeing] Kristen Stewart doing interviews and talking about her sexuality – it’s so forward-thinking. I like that. Cut the bullshit.’

Turner reunites with Lawrence for her second spin as Jean Grey next year. There’s also ‘sci-fi rom-com’ Time Freak with Asa Butterfield and indie drama Huntsville, in which Turner will go back to her natural blonde (she dyed it red for GOT) and cover her arms in fake tattoos for a ‘beautiful and dark’ story of a schoolgirl who has an affair with an older man.

Like any other 21-year-old, Turner loves visiting her school buddies at university, but I’m guessing she’s the one getting the drinks in? ‘I’m actually such a cheapskate, but all my friends are cool about it. We take turns getting rounds. I’m not an expensive person. I will go to Topshop, or get a £1 vodbull’ (that’s a vodka and Red Bull – I had to ask, too). Her biggest expense? She pauses to think. ‘My flat (Turner bought her own place in London last year) and my team bills. Ha! Kidding!’ she trills, as her publicist, sitting across the room, looks up and raises an eyebrow.

I think she enjoys causing a bit of mischief, poking a hole in the showbiz bubble whenever she can. ‘Of course,’ she smiles. ‘I have a lot of friends who were brought up in the UK like me [who] are working in LA as actors. When I go over, I’m giving them shit and being sarcastic. They’re like, “Thank god.”

‘They’re stuck in this place where everyone is so far up your arse. It’s a business town, it’s understandable. But sometimes you just need someone to tell you that you’re not a fucking superstar.’ I get the impression this is something she tells herself on a regular basis, too. Alternate-reality Sophie Turner would definitely approve.

Could we love our favourite Game of Thrones actress any more?

Throughout Game of Thrones, we've watched Sansa Stark go from innocent, wide-eyed princess to disillusioned, broken young woman - a transformation which at times has been difficult to watch.

The most harrowing episode by far in Sansa's transformation took place in Season Five, where she was brutally raped by the sadistic Ramsay Bolton on her wedding night. It led to a huge backlash on social media, causing some fans to declare that they were done with the show. Both Turner and Iwan Rheon (who plays Ramsay in the show) admitted they suffered sleepless nights beforehand, and Game of Thrones producers reportedly resolved to cut back on the amount of sexual violence in the show after facing heavy criticism.

Yet in an uplifting twist, Sophie Turner has resolved to use her profile as Sansa Stark to help real-life rape victims and vulnerable women around the world. This International Women's Day, Sophie will become the new UK patron of Women for Women International, an organisation which helps women in war torn countries rebuild their lives, joining fellow UK patron Helen Mirren.

Sophie stated that it was the 'perfect charity' for her to get involved with after researching her role as Sansa, stating: 'I wanted to help women who had gone through the same thing, and create a discussion so that there's a constant dialogue about it.'

Women for Women International invited Sophie to visit Rwanda and experience the vital impact of their work for herself. Women here are still dealing with the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide in 1994, when over an estimated 500,000 women were systematically raped during the 100 days of violence, in which one million people were killed.

Women and girls are particularly vulnerable in conflict zones - be it through use of rape as a weapon of war, enslavement, or suffering sexual abuse and trafficking.

Through Women for Women International, female survivors of conflict - many of whom are still dealing with trauma - learn about their rights, as well as key life, vocational and business skills to access livelihoods and break free from poverty.

Despite describing her trip as 'harrowing' Sophie Turner also stated that it had inspired her more than she had imagined: 'What I’ve seen in Rwanda has been really eye-opening. I knew it was going to be sad but in reality I’ve found myself completely inspired. Which is why I want to encourage everyone - men and women - to get involved and help create a chain of inspiration. Please join Women for Women International’s sisterhood (yes men too!) online to let women survivors of conflict and violence know they are not alone.'

As the final countdown begins for Game of Thrones Season 6 - which lands on 24th April - the crush of attention surrounding the show has become so huge that upcoming plot lines are guarded as closely as state secrets.

Describing herself as a ‘big blabbermouth’, the very likeable Game of Thrones and soon-to-be X-Men star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) says she's now resorted to only reading parts of the script that involve her directly to avoid any inadvertent slips.

The plot might be off-limits but here are a few things Sophie could talk about when she spoke to Elaine Lipworth in our May issue...

Congrats on your new X-Men role. How was it working with the great Jennifer Lawrence? ‘Despite being one of the most famous actresses in the world, she’s so down-to-earth. One day I got sick and she was looking after me, constantly checking up on me, getting me tablets. She was like a big sister. I was also nervous about meeting Michael Fassbender, but [on my first day on set] I looked over and he gave me the middle finger, jokingly, and I thought, “We’re going to get on.”’

What did you do when you first heard you’d been cast?  ‘I rang my mum and she started crying, then I started crying. It was crazy. Then my phone started blowing up!’

You’ve been acting since you were 13. Has it ever been tricky switching from being on set to ordinary life?  ‘You really find out who your friends are. [When I started Game Of Thrones] people would appear out of the blue and say, “Hey, how you doing?” I remember coming back to school after filming one day and this girl, who was not my friend, took a photo of us and put it on the internet with the caption, “Me with Sansa.” Not even Sophie! I was like, “Come on, are you kidding? We don’t like each other!”’

Do you still have good friends from home? ‘I’ve kept all of my best school friends. They’re all at university and none are interested in what I do. Only one friend, India, watches the show. It is really refreshing because when I come home we don’t talk about work.’ Your Game Of Thrones character Sansa is having a terrible time at the moment… ‘She’s probably had the most brutal time of anyone on the show: attempted gang rape, being betrothed to a sadistic psychopath, then getting married to another sadistic psychopath…’

Was filming the Season 5 rape scene very difficult? ‘It was awkward and there’s no getting around that, whether you’re best mates with the actor or not. It crossed a line of friendship and it felt so disgusting, because I felt I was really letting it happen. I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like to really be in that situation. I always felt like I was in a secure environment on set, but for those few seconds it was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. From an actor’s perspective, though, those kind of scenes are so meaty and really exciting.’

What did you and Iwan Rheon [who plays Ramsay Snow] do after filming? ‘We were like, “Let’s go to the bar for a drink to get our minds off it.’’’

You’ve become an adult while playing Sansa. Do you feel merged with her? ‘I feel like I know her better than I know myself, which is strange, because I totally don’t know who I am at this point [laughs]. When I’m on set walking around, I find myself becoming her and then go, “Oh, that’s the character. Step out of that.” I am actually having an identity crisis at the moment.’

You recently posted a very funny Instagram picture of you sitting in front of Ryan Gosling at the Screen Actors Guild Awards… ‘That was one of the greatest moments of my life. I’m now terrified that I’m going to do a project with him, though. Maybe he’s seen the Instagram... I always do this. I’m never cool around celebrities.’

Has anyone else made you weak at the knees? ‘I met President Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last year. He said, “I love your show,” and I was like, “I love you so much.” I started crying, it was so embarrassing. Then he goes, “I hope you don’t die [in the show],” and I was like, “Me, too.” I was so overwhelmed, but it was amazing.’

How do you deal with the fame side of your job? ‘I’m so bad on the red carpet. It’s just not me. I find it terrifying, the most demoralising thing in the world. People are shouting at you and it’s very uncomfortable. My stylist said, “Sophie, we’re going to take you to the school of How To Teach Stars To Stand Well,” because apparently I just can’t pose!’

Do you ever feel that you’ve missed out on being a normal teenager? ‘I definitely missed out on a proper education. I loved school but had to quit at 17. I wanted to go to university to study psychology and history. I’m not at a stage in my career where I can afford to stop acting and go to college, but hopefully I will when I’ve done a few more films.’

That’s what Emma Watson and Natalie Portman did...  ‘But they’re far more intelligent than I can ever hope to be!’

You’ve bought a flat in London – that’s not something many people your age can do.  ‘It’s small and modest, but it’s a place of my own and it’s amazing. I worked hard for it and it’s the first big purchase I’ve made. I love inviting friends round for dinner.’

Is it hard to have relationships if you’re travelling a lot?  ‘It is difficult to date someone from home because I’m always flying all over the place and can’t hold a relationship down. [Boyfriends] don’t understand when I have to cancel dates, so it’s easier to date people in the industry. But that’s also difficult because you could be doing one project in England and another in Australia or somewhere.’

Sophie Turner Laing is BSkyB’s managing director of entertainment and news and Vice-President of BAFTA. She has been in the television industry for more than 20 years having first launched The Muppets and most recently leading the creation of Sky Atlantic – broadcaster of hit show Boardwalk Empire.

We caught up to talk inspiration and her own experiences of mentoring.

What fired your ambition to start your own business? Co-founding Hit Entertainment was a big change in my life. I had never started a business before, I had no idea about shares and it gave me an amazing insight into running budgets. I was 29 and had just had my first child so it was a scary experience – you’re in control of your destiny yet you’re also kept awake at 3am wondering if you can pay next month's electricity bill!

What’s been a career high? I’ve loved every job I have ever done. I’ve been privileged to work with some amazing people. The media is a people business and it’s collaborative – I find that stimulating.

What’s the best careers advice that you’ve been given? It’s all about volunteering. If you see something that could work for the company, you should always put it forward. It’s very rare that you won’t be given this additional responsibility. You may not have all the answers but the trick is being able to pull a solution together from lots of resources.

What makes a good mentor? It’s key to listen and not try to find the solution for the mentee. It’s important to debate and discuss but they have to be the one to solve it. It’s very much a two-way thing. I find it fascinating learning about different parts of the business – I end up being challenged too!
