This involved shock claims around the late monarch's second son, with reports that the former Duke of York, who was stripped of his titles last year, once engaged a royal aide in a physical altercation.

The aide in question, Vice-Admiral Sir Tony Jonstone-Burt, was allegedly confronted by the former Prince after he was told that he could not hold a Pitch@Palace event at Buckingham Palace.

"It was a routine household matter," a source within the royal household reportedly told Hardman. "The Duke wanted to have a reception, and there wasn't any room. It was as simple as that."

"[It] wasn't clear that Catherine would remain a priority for William after university," the excerpt continued. "He was still just 22, and friends suggested he was afraid both of losing his independence so young, and of the mounting media speculation about a possible engagement."

"[William] was torn about whether he wanted to continue his relationship with Catherine," Myers continued. "On the one hand he missed her, and on the other the attention from the media had left him so incensed" that having a "normal relationship" allegedly seemed impossible.

Prince William and Kate Middleton ultimately reconciled when university resumed, with Myers reporting that William "broke down and apologised."

"William told Catherine he wanted to make a serious go of the relationship and in a peacemaking gesture he invited her to his father's 56th birthday celebrations at Highgrove."

Last night saw the 2026 British Academy Film Awards, with A-listers descending on London's BAFTA red carpet to celebrate the past year in film.

And in a surprise move, Prince William and Princess Kate made an appearance at the star-studded ceremony, attending the awards together for the first time since 2023.

It was not known in advance whether the Prince and Princess of Wales would be attending the 2026 awards. Particularly given the recent royal controversy, with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office last week.

And while the future King and Queen were all smiles at the BAFTAs, body language experts have weighed in on the royal couple's visible "anxiety," noting a "handful of tells that might reflect the undeniable tensions of the past week."

"[The Prince and Princess] walk side by side with their arms hanging loose at their sides," body language expert Judi James reported to HELLO!. "A closeness of the dangling inner hands [suggests] a desire to clasp hands here or perhaps to perform the kind of signature truncated touches, pats and strokes they often give each other to support each other at events like this.

"Instead of touching, though, we can see the fingers of William's right hand slightly curled so that his index finger touches his thumb, hinting at a self-soothe ritual," she added, noting that William's "lips [were] pulled inward and his brows pulled into a small frown, suggesting some anxiety".

This is something the future King also spoke publicly about during the event, confirming that he was not in "a calm state".

The Prince and Princess of Wales have not directly commented on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest. However they did issue a rare statement expressing their concern at the unfolding revelations from the Epstein files, earlier this month.

"I can confirm The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations," announced a spokesperson on behalf of the royal couple.

In a surprise move, Prince William and Princess Kate graced the BAFTA red carpet, attending the ceremony together for the first time since 2023. And with their impromptu award season appearance being their first in three years, the news has of course gone viral.

The future King and Queen's appearance is not completely unexpected, with Prince William being a regular attendee of the Awards since he became President of BAFTA in 2010. And in the years since, the Prince and Princess of Wales have attended together on five separate occasions.

However, the Princess of Wales has not attended the ceremony since 2023, missing the Awards in 2024 to focus on her cancer recovery, with Prince William attending solo. And neither Prince William nor Princess Kate made an appearance the following year.

It was not known whether the Prince and Princess of Wales would attend this year's BAFTA Awards, particularly given the recent royal controversy, with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

BAFTA bosses are reportedly being vigilant to ensure no controversial royal jokes are told during this evening's ceremony, amid rumours that Prince William and Kate Middleton will be in attendance.

In light of the recent arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the potential of the Prince and Princess of Wales making an appearance at the 2026 BAFTAs, it's been claimed that those in charge are on high alert to ensure there is no mention of the disgraced royal.

The former Prince Andrew was arrested on his birthday last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office and spent 11 hours in custody.

"BAFTA bosses want to keep the attention on the films and the winners," a source told The Sun.

"Any mention of Andrew's arrest would take away from the awards. There's concern about any attempt at humour over what's happened to Andrew.

"It would be even more awkward if William and Kate were sitting in the audience."

While the Prince and Princess of Wales skipped last year's ceremony in favour of a family holiday with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, it's expected that they will take their VIP seats in the audience again this year.

Concerns are being raised after an unearthed video from the 2020 BAFTAs resurfaced online, showing Kate and William's reactions to an awkward royal joke told by Rebel Wilson.

"Good evening, distinguished guests and those that don't identify as that. It is really great to be here, at the Royal Andrew... Royal Harry... no, sorry, Royal Phil- at this royal... palace place," Rebel joked, in front of the future King and Queen.

At the time, Andrew was facing backlash following his infamous BBC Newsnight interview.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have not commented on the arrest of Andrew, but did issue a rare official statement after the release of disturbing new information about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

A spokesperson for Kate and William said of the ongoing scandal said, "I can confirm The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations.

"Their thoughts remain focused on the victims."

Prince William is reportedly willing to take a "hard line" approach with his attitude towards Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice's place in the monarchy, following the arrest of their father.

The disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on his birthday last week, spending 11 hours in custody.

The arrest came after newly released US government files suggested that Andrew may have shared official information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

It's now been claimed that future King, Prince William, will have no hesitation about taking a firm stance on Beatrice and Eugenie's roles within the family - and is also expected to strengthen bonds with more trusted relatives.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also suggests that Zara Tindall may reassess her loyalty towards her cousins, leaning towards William's side and away from Eugenie and Beatrice, in order to show him support.

"It may fall to William to make a decision on the future of Beatrice and Eugenie. Neither are reportedly particularly close to him or to Catherine," Richard told the Daily Mail.

"If it came to choosing, Zara and Mike would naturally support William and Catherine if William should feel the need to oust Beatrice and Eugenie," he added.

"They are independent enough to do as they wish, but nobody should doubt that their loyalty, like that of Zara's indomitable mother, Princess Anne, is first and foremost to the monarchy at all times."

Meanwhile, it has been made clear by King Charles that the Royal Family will be fully cooperative in any police investigations made into Andrew.

In a statement shared by the King following his brother's arrest, he declared that the law must be able to "take its course".

"I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office," his statement began.

"What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

"In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.

"Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.

"Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all."

The peace offering in question? A gift for Princess Lilibet after her birth in June 2021, over a year after the Sussexes’ relocation.

"William and Catherine sent a gift and a card of congratulations,” Myers reported. “Although that would be the extent of their contact,” he added, previously reporting that William “felt betrayed by Harry to the extent that he vowed never to speak to him again."

"In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course," he continued, choosing not to comment further on the matter.

However, despite the firm's continued co-operation, royal experts have warned that Andrew's arrest could impact the royal family, particularly if and when members of the fold had been aware of any allegations relating to the 66 year old.

"He was Prince Andrew, Duke of York," explained Robert Jobson, royal expert and author of The Windsor Legacy, in an interview with PEOPLE. "He was right at the heart of the Royal Family and appointed by the late Queen and the government. It is one thing kicking him out now and saying he is a bad apple, but they didn’t have due diligence in place."

Jobson went on to report that questions around "who knew what?" and "why was nothing done?" could cause repercussions, stating: "If it comes out that people knew stuff - whether it be members of the family or police or staffers - then heads must roll. Charles is not guilty of anything here, but the monarchy needs to change."

He continued: "The lack of accountability and the lack of transparency has led to complacency which has led to this problem."

The investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor remains ongoing. He has continuously and strenuously denied all allegations against him in relation to his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

Earlier this morning, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The former Prince, who was stripped of his titles in October last year following public scrutiny over his alleged ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, said at the time that 'the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family'. Following his arrest today, Andrew is currently being held in custody. Although details about the allegations are yet to be shared by officials, he has consistently and strenuously denied any wrongdoing in all matters related to Jeffrey Epstein.

In response to Andrew's arrest, King Charles has released a statement confirming that he is offering full 'support and co-operation' in the wake of the investigation. The BBC reports that the monarch and the Palace were not informed of the arrest prior. In his statement, the King wrote: "I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. Earlier this morning, Thames Valley police released a statement confirming that Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct. They also confirmed that he was being held in custody, and that they were carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. It reads: "As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. The man remains in police custody at this time. We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court."

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright added: "Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time."

According to the BBC, police are searching addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk in relation to the arrest. The report suggested that Andrew's arrest may be linked to an investigation into the recently released Epstein files 'that goes back to documents from when he was a trade envoy, that are alleged to have been passed to Epstein'. However, at the time of writing, the details of the investigation - including the allegations - have not been confirmed. Andrew has consistently and strenuously denied any wrongdoing in all matters related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Today, joining Greg James for a special episode of Radio 1's Life Hack, Prince William candidly discussed his own mental health and urged men to open up. He was joined by rapper Professor Green and a spokesperson from James' Place, a charity offering life-saving treatment for men in suicidal crisis.

Discussing his own personal experience, Prince William shared: "I take a long time trying to understand my emotions and why I feel like I do, and I feel like that's a really important process to do every now and again, to check in with yourself and work out why you're feeling like you do. Sometimes there's an obvious explanation, sometimes there isn't. I think that idea that mental health crisis is temporary - you can have a strong mental health crisis moment but it will pass."

The Prince of Wales also highlighted the importance of opening up to others, adding: "Part of feeling comfortable talking about mental health is understanding it... We need more male role models out there, talking about it and normalising it, so that it becomes second nature to all of us."

Host Greg James explained that the episode was created to 'help people and get the conversation going'. Professor Green has long been a mental health advocate, and in 2015 he featured in a BBC3 documentary, Suicide and Me, exploring the tragic loss of his father.

The Prince of Wales also went on to say that his three young children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, are always keen to open up about their feelings, joking: "Sometimes too much. I get all the details."

He added: "Which I love, it’s amazing. Being able to understand it, have time for it, decipher it, sometimes you feel the sense that you need to fix it for everyone and that I find quite difficult. I have to remind myself that you don’t have to fix everything but you do have to listen. And it's important to be ok with those feelings and those comments."
