• The Prince of Wales publicly celebrated Mother's Day this weekend, posting a moving tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, on social media.

Princess Diana continues to make headlines, from her iconic style moments and meaningful breaks with royal protocol to her powerful words of advice.

It was a tribute to the late royal that got the world talking this weekend, as her eldest son Prince William posted a never-before-seen photograph to honour Mother's Day.

"Remembering my mother, today and every day," the Prince of Wales wrote in a personal message on Sunday, captioning a sweet childhood photograph with Princess Diana.

"Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today," his message continued. "Happy Mother's Day. W."

The rare post by the future King touched many fans and followers, amassing over 200k likes and hundreds of messages of support.

"I'm sure she's proud of the man you've become and the family you've built," read one comment, while another posted: "Such a tender and beautiful memory. The love between mother and child shines through this moment in nature - truly touching and timeless."

"What a sweet picture," another added. "She would be so proud of you and your beautiful family - and of the wonderful mother Princess Catherine is!"

"I still have shock within me - people say it can't last that long but it does," Prince William has previously explained of coping with the loss of his mother in 2017 BBC One documentary, Mind Over Marathon.

"The shock is the biggest thing [which] I still feel 20 years later, about my mother," he added. "You never get over it, it's such an unbelievably big moment in your life that it never leaves you. You just learn to deal with it."

Princess Diana hated being at Balmoral with the royals — at least according to one former royal butler. Paul Burrell, who used to work for the late Princess of Wales, has opened up about what Diana found stifling about spending her summers in the royal Scottish Estate, and what he had to say is pretty compelling.

"Diana tried to please Charles, so her times at Balmoral were to please him," Paul told Marie Claire US. "She wanted to fit in, she wanted to be loved, she wanted to be accepted, and that was all part of that acceptance." But wanting to fit in in that way "cost" Diana, according to Paul, "because the royals, they're a very difficult lot at times, and they're all individual personalities, all huge egos, all bouncing around in the same place."

Paul explained that, despite her best efforts, Diana couldn't fit into that "archaic world" because she was too much of a "modern woman." He added that certain royal traditions, such as deer hunting and 'blooding', a ritual whereby someone's face is smeared with the blood of their first kill. According to Paul, Diana "thought that was like something from a Victorian novel." He said: "Diana considered Balmoral to be stuck in the past, in a world that didn't exist anymore, and she wasn't that person. She lived in the real world."

Paul described the extremely rigid schedule of daily meals and activities at Balmoral, including the strict dress codes people had to abide by as "very, very formal," especially since the rules hadn't changed since Queen Victoria's time. According to the former royal butler, Diana found it all "suffocating" and couldn't understand why the whole thing was never modernised. He said: "She was suddenly living in a Victorian court, and Diana wanted to live in the real world. She wanted to come down for dinner in jeans. People from this world don't fit into that world. And that's why that world will change and is changing."

And who will spearhead that modernising of the Balmoral world? Diana's eldest son, of course. Paul continued that William, as the heir apparent and future King, could be a catalyst for change when it comes to these royal traditions, suggesting that he will be "the people's King".

Prince William is already being open about his plans to modernise the monarchy. While the current Prince of Wales was in South Africa for the Earthshot Prize last year, he said: "I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's I'm trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation. And to give you more of an understanding around it, I'm doing it with maybe a smaller R in the royal, if you like, that's maybe a better way of saying it."

Princess Diana may not have lived to meet her grandchildren, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are raising their little ones with plenty of homages to their late grandmother. The latest example of this came when the Duchess of Sussex shared some adorable family photos taken at Disneyland in Southern California - where she, Harry and their son Prince Archie, 6, headed for a fun couple of days celebrating their daughter Princess Lilibet's 4th birthday.

Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Meghan shared the loveliest montage of her family having the best time at the theme park - which included a mix of photos and short videos. All of this shows the family of four enjoying lots of different rides, meeting Disney characters, sporting Disney merch, and enjoying classic Disneyland snacks such as corn dogs. The Duchess captioned the post: "Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!"

But there's one photo in particular that has caught eagle-eyed royal watchers' attention: the one of Harry and Meghan on the ride formerly known as Splash Mountain. Archie and Lili don't appear in that photo — it's possible that they didn't meet the height requirement for the ride, or simply weren't in front of the camera on that occasion.

While these days this ride is known as Tiana's Bayou Adventure (based on the 2009 Disney film The Princess and the Frog), this wasn't Harry's first time on the log flume. In fact, the Prince experienced the same ride at Disneyland Florida circa 1993, when he was just eight years old.

At the time, Harry rode Splash Mountain with mum Princess Diana and brother Prince William, then 11, as reported by People. And if you're wondering how the high-profile royals were able to visit the park, the answer is rather surprising. Splash Mountain was closed off to the rest of the public while they were on it, and they reportedly reached it via secret underground tunnels. A waiter who encountered the royals back then told the publication: "They were all very nice, very well behaved. She was a sweetheart."

How sweet!

When Prince Harry first introduced Meghan Markle to his mother's side of the family, it didn't go at all as planned according to one royal author. The biographer claims that Harry was hoping that Princess Diana's sisters would see the similarities between Meghan and the late Princess of Wales, but that's not how things turned out.

"Harry assumed that Diana's family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée," Tom Bower wrote in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, (via the Mirror). "Both, he said, shared the same problems. He was so disappointed."

According to Tom: "No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family."

Diana grew up with three siblings, all of whom are still alive today: Cynthia Jane, known as Lady Jane Fellowes; Elizabeth Sarah Lavinia, known as Lady Sarah McCorquodale; and Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer. The latter walked with Prince William, Prince Harry, the then-Prince Charles and Prince Philip behind Diana's coffin in 1997. But the Spencers seemingly missing the similarities between Diana and Meghan didn't change Harry's mind about her. In the 2022 docu-series Harry & Meghan, the Duke of Sussex said: "So much of what Meghan is, and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, she has the same empathy, she has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her."

After the documentary was released, a body language expert confirmed that Harry was being incredibly sincere while saying this. "When Harry was speaking about Meghan, I did not see any signs of deceptive behaviour or that he was faking his emotions for the cameras," Darren Stanton told Marie Claire UK at the time. "His body language and behaviour seems to be totally congruent with what he is thinking. From his non-verbal communication, it’s apparent that he truly believes Meghan is similar to Diana."

Despite the Spencers' view on it all, the Duchess of Sussex has continually paid tribute to her late mother-in-law for years, honouring her legacy and her husband's memory of his mother. Meghan nodded to Diana with her impressive cathedral wedding veil, and has also honoured her in subtle ways through her podcast, her TV show, and her fashion.

Princess Diana made a surprisingly accurate prediction about Prince William's royal future, and her comments are now coming to light. The late royal spoke about the heir's importance to the monarchy, and why the future King is an asset to the family.

Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared some of Princess Diana's musings in a new report for the Mirror. She explained that the former Princess of Wales once said the following words to her: "William’s alright. The country is very lucky to have William." The expert then added: "I think she was bang on."

Bond also believes that the direction William is taking the Royal Family in is a very positive one. She continued: "Clearly, William is doing something very right. His informal, approachable way of going about his work is resonating with the public. Even the way he talks is different to previous generations... He’ll pose for selfies with the crowds, he’ll even work the camera for them if they get flustered! All this adds up to a prince and future King who seems reasonably in touch — despite his privileged status."

Jennie's perspective rings absolutely true for anyone who's been following the news around the Prince of Wales lately. William and his wife, Princess Kate, were just honoured with their very own spot on the TIME100 Philanthropy list for this year, for their work towards "modernising royal philanthropy." And William himself has previously spoken up about his desire to bring the royals firmly into the 21st century.

"I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's I'm trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation. And to give you more of an understanding around it, I'm doing it with maybe a smaller R in the royal, if you like, that's maybe a better way of saying it," the Prince said while in Cape Town for the 2024 Earthshot Prize.

"It's more about impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening, and helping people. And I'm also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do. It helps impact people's lives. And I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world."

You won't be surprised to hear that King Charles has regrets from his marriage to the late Princess Diana, given what we know now about their union.

"Both of them [Charles and Diana] behaved badly in that first marriage and made decisions that none of us could ever condone," a friend of the royals told the Daily Mail's Rebecca English as part of a new report. "But we can seek to try to understand them."

Seemingly alluding to Charles not being able to marry Camilla when he wanted to, the friend added: "When you look back on it now, asking someone to sacrifice... happiness for the sake of their public persona seems really quite cruel."

Charles and Camilla were romantically involved prior to the King-in-waiting's marriage to Diana Spencer, but they broke up and Camilla got engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles while Charles was in the Royal Navy, according to People.

However, their story was far from over, and Charles and Camilla got involved again while she was married, but before Diana came into the picture. Charles and Diana married in 1981 and it's unclear whether Charles was still seeing Camilla at this point, but we do know that they had an affair from around 1986 onwards. The two pieces of proof we have: recordings of private phone calls between them (including *that* tampon conversation), and Diana's assertion that "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded" on the BBC's Panorama in 1995.

Diana is also known to have had several affairs during their marriage, which was largely unhappy. Charles and Diana officially separated in 1992, then divorced in 1996. As you well know, they shared children Prince William, born in 1982, and Prince Harry, born in 1984.

Meanwhile, Camilla divorced from Andrew — with whom she also had two children — in 1995, and Charles and Camilla went public with their relationship in 1999, then married in 2005.

Prince Harry is NOT planning to produce and narrate a Netflix documentary about his late mother Princess Diana, apparently.

A report about the alleged three-part series appeared in the Express over the weekend.

"The idea is that it would be a solo project for Harry, who would be a co-executive producer as well as hosting and narrating the series," a production source in Los Angeles told the publication.

"He is uniquely placed, not only to talk about the woman he knew as his mother, but also to examine her role as an enduring social and cultural icon still beloved by so many."

The insider added: "It’s felt that this is something he would handle with passion and sensitivity, offering fresh insights into not only her life, but also her lasting legacy."

The Express's source admitted the series was not a done deal: "Nothing has been agreed yet but this is being talked about in an extremely positive way," they continued.

"Harry might even see it as a stepping stone to building bridges with William and the rest of his family."

But don't get your hopes up, because a source close to the situation has since told The Independent that the report is simply "not true."

The apparently false rumours concerned the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's ongoing partnership with Netflix.

Most recently, Harry's wife Meghan Markle released the buzzy docuseries With Love, Meghan, in which she gives us a glimpse behind the scenes at her life in Montecito. The show attracted so many viewers that it has been renewed for season 2.

Netflix is also partnering with Meghan on her new brand As Ever, which carries a range of kitchen items.

In the past, the Sussexes released the docuseries Harry & Meghan with Netflix, and Harry released Heart of Invictus about the Invictus Games.

The Princess of Wales has returned to duty in 2025. And following her cancer diagnosis, and year-long recovery, she is now confirmed to be in remission.

The past month has already seen Princess Kate scale up her royal role. And as the mother of three increases her duties, she has reportedly been prioritising those close to her heart, with a particular emphasis on her work with children.

This week, Princess Kate visited Wales, where she paid a visit to the Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice, of which she became a patron.

The moving appointment has a special meaning behind it, with Princess Kate following in her late mother-in-law's footsteps, with Princess Diana being the organisation's first ever royal patron.

And as the 43-year-old spoke with children and parents during her visit, several members of the public compared Princess Kate to the late Princess of Wales.

"Diana is always thought of as the royal who had a people touch and had the ability to build rapport and bond with people," explained Dan Forbes, one parent present during Princess Kate's visit, via PEOPLE. "You could see that today with the princess."

"[She] put people at ease immediately," he continued, adding: "It feels like you are speaking to a mum, first and foremost."

And going on to talk about the good work that the Princess of Wales can do, he continued: "She will bring awareness to what this place does. We would be ignorant to what it was if we didn’t use it. It has been a massive support for us."

"Love, empathy and kindness is right at the centre of @ty_hafan’s work," the Princess of Wales later posted to Instagram, alongside a series of photographs.

"Today’s visit was incredibly moving - seeing the care and compassion provided to children with life-shortening conditions, and to their families. Spending time with some of them today highlighted the vital work done by Tŷ Hafan to support families throughout life and beyond."

This has been particularly true in 2025, with the former Suits actress not only returning to social media after a five year hiatus, but also launching a brand new TV project.

Yes, the 43-year-old is returning to the screen with new lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan - set to air on Netflix later this month in eight 33-minute episodes. And from A-list cameos to celebrity chef tutorials, the upcoming release is already going viral, promising to blend "practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old."

Markle posted the trailer to Instagram this week, enthusing "I have been so excited to share this with you." And while fans were thrilled by the surprise content and eager for behind the scenes footage, conversation focused on Markle's sweet nod to Princess Diana.

As spotted by eagle-eyed viewers, the Duchess could be seen clearly wearing a Cartier Tank Francaise watch - a trademark accessory of both Markle and Prince Harry's late mother.

Princess Diana was rarely seen without her Cartier Tank Francaise watch, which was a present from her father, John Spencer. And in 2015 interview, Markle revealed that she owned the very same watch - a present to give to her future daughter.

"I've always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch," Markle told the publication. "When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version."

She continued: "I had it engraved on the back, 'To M.M. From M.M.' and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That's what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them."

It is not known whether Markle was wearing her own Cartier watch or Princess Diana's heirloom - rumoured to have been gifted to her by Prince Harry, but either way, it is undoubtedly a meaningful nod to her late mother-in-law.

"I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it," the Duchess of Sussex captioned the video trailer. "Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support - and fun! As ever, Meghan."

With Love, Meghan is expected to be released on Netflix on 15 January.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are two of the most talked-about people in the world, never failing to make headlines.

This has been particularly true since their 2020 move, stepping back from their senior royal roles, and relocating to Montecito, California.

Yes, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have carved out a new life in USA. And from the launch of their 2024 documentary series to the Duchess' new Californian lifestyle label, American Riviera Orchard, they have been front and centre this year.

This week, it was Prince Harry who made headlines, as the Duke of Sussex made a rare public appearance at The New York Times 2024 DealBook Summit in New York City.

Joining DealBook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin on stage, Prince Harry opened up about his new life, confirming that he and Markle were not leaving USA. And in a rare admission, he even went on to explain that his late mother Princess Diana would have wanted this new life for him.

"I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here," Prince Harry explained during the on-stage conversation, adding: "I feel as though it's the life my mum wanted for me."

"I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid," he went on to state about royal life and growing up in the press. "I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren't exactly based on reality. When you grow up in that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information, but also what other people are thinking about as well."

He continued: "When you're kind of trapped in this bubble you feel like there's no way out. What happened to my mum and the fact that I was a kid and felt helpless, there comes the inner turmoil. I felt helpless."

Going forward, Prince Harry has confirmed that his sights are set on his new life in California, stating: "The main goal for me at the moment is being the best husband and the best dad I can be."

The Princess of Wales is often praised for her modern approach to royal duties. Whether it's how she parents her three young children and goes against traditional rules, her refreshing take on royal fashion, or her commitment to mental health awareness and early learning research, many royal experts believe that Kate 'holds the future of the monarchy in her hands'.

Now, royal expert and biographer Robert Jobson - who has written extensively about King Charles, Princess Kate and Princess Diana - has claimed that Kate was 'given a blessing' from the now-King when it comes to how she is permitted to operate within the monarchy. However, Jobson states that the same blessing was not offered to the late Princess Diana during her marriage to Charles.

In a piece for MailOnline, he wrote: "Whilst it is Charles' head that wears the Crown, it is William, Catherine and their children that will steal the limelight. They are bound to. And it is right. This time, it will be with Charles's blessing – for he knows for monarchy to survive it must be relevant to the younger generation."

During Diana's infamous Panorama interview with Martin Bashir in 1995, she spoke about the breakdown of her marriage and expressed that the public's overwhelming interest in her outshone her husband and caused 'pressure' and 'jealousy'. She said: "The pressure on us both as a couple with the media was phenomenal, and misunderstood by a great many people. We'd be going round Australia, for instance, and all you could hear was, 'Oh, she's on the other side'. Now, if you're a man like my husband, a proud man, you mind about that if you hear it every day for four weeks. And you feel low about it, instead of feeling happy and sharing it... A great deal of complicated situations arose because of that."

Jobson claims that the Wales' have the 'wow factor', and that this is why Charles has taken a different approach with their popularity. He added: "[William and Kate] make headlines for the right reasons. She has made the role as the new princess her own. Her work with Early Learning for young children has been groundbreaking. She looks great, she is smart and is an inspiration to many women at home and abroad. But she never overplays her hand."

Princess Kate has quietly returned to work since announcing that she completed her cancer treatment, and royal fans are looking forward to seeing her at her annual festive concert, Together At Christmas, which is set to air on ITV on 24th December 2024.

Prince Harry is continuing some of his late mother's charity work. The Duke of Sussex has been in New York City over the last few days, and notably attended one event with The HALO Trust, an organisation dedicated to clearing landmines in more than 30 countries around the world.

At the event on Monday (23rd September), Harry spoke on stage about the crucial work undertaken by trust. He also referred to Princess Diana's famous visit to an active landmine in Angola in 1997, which precipitated a global landmine ban. Following in her footsteps, Harry also visited Angola during his and Meghan Markle's tour of southern Africa in 2019.

"As you know, The HALO Trust work in Angola meant a great deal to my mother," the Duke told the audience in New York, as reported by People. "Carrying on her legacy is a responsibility that I take incredibly seriously. Much has changed in my life and the world since 2019 when I first visited. In those five years, I've become a father for the second time. And while you don't need children to have a stake in the future of our planet, I do know that my mother would have been horrified that anyone's children or grandchildren would live in a world still infested with mines."

While in New York, the Duke also attended a dinner hosted by the World Health Organization, as well as events in collaboration with The Diana Award, Travalyst, African Parks, and the Archewell Foundation.

In just a matter of days, the California-based royal will be making the trip over to the UK to attend the WellChild Awards. Of course, there has been much speculation as to whether he will get to meet with his father King Charles or his brother Prince William while he's in London — though experts and insiders are really not hopeful at the moment.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties in early 2020 and relocated to the US, settling in Montecito, California where they now live with their two young children, Archie and Lilibet. The couple discussed why they decided to leave the UK permanently in their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, and cited the intrusive nature of the British press as one of the main reasons for their departure.

However, it wasn't the only reason that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex waved goodbye to life within the royal fold. As documented in his memoir Spare, Harry's relationships with his closest family members - including Prince William and his father, King Charles - were increasingly strained when he met and fell in love with Meghan, and he has claimed that things quickly soured for the couple after their wedding in 2018.

In his new biography, Catherine, The Princess Of Wales, royal author Rob Jobson has claimed that William was 'concerned' by the speed of Harry and Meghan's relationship. According to the book, he asked the late Queen Elizabeth II to ban Meghan from wearing any jewellery that had been worn by their mother, Princess Diana.

Jobson writes: "William, still concerned by the match, even sought assurances from the Queen that his brother’s bride-to-be would not wear any jewellery in the collection once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, even though his wife Catherine had been allowed to wear some, which would be due to her rank."

William and Kate had already been in a relationship for almost ten years when they walked down the aisle in 2011, but things progressed a lot quicker for Harry and Meghan; the pair started dating in the summer of 2016, were engaged by late 2017, and then married six months later.

Jobson continued: "Harry claimed that the goodwill from William and Catherine disappeared long before the build-up to his wedding. William had confided to his brother that he believed it would be better to give Meghan more time to adjust to the royal way of life and suggested he cool the relationship. Harry felt affronted and judged it to be an insult. As a direct result, his relationship with his brother deteriorated fast."

It was previously reported that Harry had inherited a ring from Diana, which he had gifted to William upon his engagement to Kate in 2010. However, the estranged royal has since denied the story. In his memoir, he wrote: "The papers published florid stories about the moment I realised Willy and Kate were well matched, the moment I appreciated the depth of their love and thus decided to gift Willy the ring I’d inherited from Mummy, the legendary sapphire, a tender moment between brothers, a bonding moment for all three of us, and absolute rubbish: none of it ever happened.

"I never gave Willy that ring because it wasn’t mine to give. He already had it. He’d asked for it after Mummy died, and I’d been more than happy to let it go."

Prince William has taken the lessons he learned from Princess Diana in his stride. The Prince of Wales is reportedly planning to follow in his late mum's footsteps in the coming months, by bringing his children along to visit a homelessness centre as part of his charitable work, as reported by Hello!.

If the reports are correct, William will invite Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, along to see firsthand the work that can be done to help those experiencing homelessness in the UK. Poignantly, when William and his brother Prince Harry were children, Diana taught them about homelessness, and famously brought them along to visit charity The Passage — which William is a royal patron for to this day.

Writing in the Big Issue in 2022, William had already expressed his desire to involve his three children in his work towards ending homelessness. He said: "In the years ahead, I hope to bring George, Charlotte and Louis to see the fantastic organisations doing inspiring work to support those most in need — just as my mother did for me."

In the magazine, he also explained the importance of sharing the stories of people impacted by homelessness. He wrote: "While I may seem like one of the most unlikely advocates for this cause, I have always believed in using my platform to help tell those stories and to bring attention and action to those who are struggling. I plan to do that now I’m turning forty, even more than I have in the past."

Fighting homelessness has always been an issue close to William's heart, but he's focusing on it even more at the moment, as he recently celebrated the first anniversary of his project Homewards — which is working to end homelessness from six locations around the UK. The royal has also just announced an upcoming documentary titled Prince William: We Can End Homelessness.

Princess Diana epitomised strength, elegance and grace, not only through how she appeared and held herself, but how she treated others and dealt with situations. This week saw The Diana Award ceremony - a legacy awards celebrating "the achievements of 20 young leaders, visionaries and role models from across the world", created in honour of the late Princess of Wales. 

While honouring this year's winners onstage, Prince William opened up about his mother, sharing a powerful piece of advice that she had once given him: “Everyone has the potential to give something back.

“I know that she would have been honoured to see a charity in her name doing such inspirational work to uplift young people from all corners of the globe,” Prince William reportedly announced in a moving speech. “She taught me that everyone has the potential to give something back, that everyone in need deserves a supporting hand in life."

He later concluded: “I am so proud to see this belief of my mother’s manifested in the amazing young people receiving the Legacy Award tonight.”

Prince Harry also made an appearance at the Diana Awards, joining virtually to personally thank those in the room for all that they had done.

“Thank you very much for inspiring so many others and at the same time protecting my mother’s legacy," the Duke of Sussex stated in a video call. "I really appreciate that".

This is not the first time Princess Diana's guidance to her sons has made news, with the late Princess of Wales herself recounting the advice she once gave 12-year-old son William in her 1995 Panorama interview.

"I went to the school and put it to William, particularly, that if you find someone you love in life you must hang on to it and look after it," she recalled. "And if you were lucky enough to find someone who loved you then one must protect it."

"The first time I met her, I was asked to be in a line up to meet her at some charity event," singer Boy George told host Drew Barrymore during his appearance on Thursday's show. "And then when the palace official checked the list, I wasn't on it, so they pushed me out of the line."

He continued: "I went over to the bar pretty embarrassed thinking, 'Oh my God. I can't believe I humiliated myself.' And I was standing in that line and [Princess Diana] broke protocol and came over and spoke to me, and she was very sweet."

The former lead singer of Culture Club then went on to explain that Princess Diana also broke protocol that evening to speak to his mother, who was a huge fan of the late Princess of Wales.

"She basically spent 20 minutes talking to my mum," Boy George recalled. "That was what made me fall madly in love with her. Because I said, 'I'm actually not really into the royal family but my mum loves you. Will you meet her?' She met my mum for 20 minutes and was adorable."

Unafraid to break royal protocol, Princess Diana was a real pioneer, with news resurfacing this week that she is actually responsible for changing the way that royal women give birth.

Yes, really.

Royal births going as far back as the 1840s meant undergoing a "twilight sleep", whereby the baby would be pulled out with forceps while the mother was under general anaesthetic, something that Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II both reportedly opted for in order to have a painless drama-free birth.

Princess Diana however bucked tradition, credited with kickstarting radical changes for royal child birth in hospitals.

Not only did Princess Diana choose to remain awake and have a natural childbirth, she also chose to give birth standing up, with natural childbirth expert Sheila Kitzinger recalling that Diana didn’t want to lie down, choosing to "give birth in an upright position."

"I said that Charles looked strong enough to hold her," Kitzinger recalled. "And that is what happened."

She continued: "It was the first active royal birth - a complete contrast to the Queen’s."

Princess Diana’s most famous decision when it came to giving birth however, was her choice to buck the royal tradition of giving birth at Kensington Palace.

Instead, the late Princess of Wales chose to give birth to Prince William and Prince Harry at St. Mary’s hospital in Paddington, something that has now become somewhat of a royal tradition.

How accurate is The Crown?

The Crown is a work of fiction based partly on real events, but this should be taken loosely. After all, while some aspects of the royal family's interpersonal relationships are documented, the majority of their intimate conversations are imagined in the Netflix series—naturally, that information is largely private. 

There are also plenty of events The Crown doesn't cover, according to the show's creator Peter Morgan. He explained to Variety: "We once wrote down all the things that we hadn’t put in The Crown. Speculation about paternity, affairs, this, that. It’s unbelievable, all we could have written."

Did Harry's book Spare influence The Crown's sixth season?

Prince Harry's controversial memoir Spare delves into a lot more detail on royal life from the point of view of estranged Royal Family members Harry and Meghan—with much of it unflattering towards the rest of the Royal Family. While reading this may have proved somewhat insightful, The Crown Creator Peter Morgan assures he 'hasn't read a word of it' in a bid not to become too influenced by Harry's point of view. 

"I’ve not read a word of it. Not that I wouldn’t be interested," he told Variety. "But I didn’t want his voice to inhabit my thinking too much. I’ve got a lot of sympathy with him, a lot of sympathy. But I didn’t want to read his book."

How accurate is The Crown season 6? 9 key moments unpacked 

With part one of The Crown season six released on Netflix on 16th November, we delve into six pivotal moments in the first four episodes, which largely centres around Princess Diana's estrangement from the then Prince Charles and blossoming relationship with Dodi Fayed. 

1. Princess Diana's ghost

One of perhaps the most surprising moments in the sixth season of The Crown so far is the introduction of Princess Diana as a ghostly figure, engaging in post-death conversations with both then-Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II. 

This could be considered one of The Crown's biggest leaps, as it appears to be based completely on fiction, with no accounts from either Charles or the Queen on the subject. The show's creator, Peter Morgan, has stressed that this element of the story should be taken as 'vision' rather than a 'ghost', explaining: "It was her continuing to live vividly in the minds of those she has left behind," he explained to Variety. "Diana was unique, and I suppose that’s what inspired me to find a unique way of representing her. She deserved special treatment narratively."

Yet, the whole appearance does appear to veer into the realm of the spiritual, with a poignant interaction between the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles in the fourth episode of the new season. "You were always the most beloved of all of us," he tells her. To which she replies: "Thank you for how you were at the hospital. So raw, broken… and handsome. I’ll take that with me." Diana continues: "You know I loved you so much, so deeply, but so painfully too. It’s over now. It’ll be easier for everyone with me gone. Admit it. You’ve had that thought already." To which Charles replies: "The only thought I’ve had since the moment I heard is regret."

2. Dodi’s fiancée waited on his yacht while he entertained Diana

While it appears that some of the more intimate conversations between those involved in the love triangle depicted in episode one of the sixth season of The Crown have been fictionalised, the crux of this story is very much true—at least according to Dodi's alleged former fiancée Kelly Fisher. 

Kelly was first introduced as Dodi’s girlfriend in season five of The Crown and appears again in the first episode of the show. As Dodi grows closer to Diana, he reveals that she's sat waiting on a neighbouring yacht. It would appear that there was some truth in this seemingly unlikely set-up. According to reporting from society reporter Dominick Dunne in Vanity Fair, Kelly was 'devastated and traumatised' by her treatment from Dodi, which included being flown out to St Tropez only to be left alone while he serenaded his new love interest, Diana, on a boat nearby. 

But where the lines are blurred is whether Princess Diana was even aware of Kelly's existence, with Dominick Dunne continuing: "I think it is safe to say that Diana didn’t know that Kelly Fisher was on another family yacht, waiting for furtive visits from Dodi, with whom she had been in a relationship for nearly a year. Diana had already played that scene in her marriage to Prince Charles."

3. Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed's kiss

The kiss between Dodi and Diana, which is captured by paparazzi photographers and splashed all over the tabloid papers much to the embarrassment of the Royal Family, is a key moment for series six. But while the kiss and media circus that followed did happen, the conditions surrounding it were largely fictionalised. 

The shot was taken by Italian paparazzi photographer Mario Brenna, but the idea that Dodi's father Mohamed hired him in a calculated fashion was 'absurd and completely invented' he told the New York Times. 

4. Princess Margaret was the only royal to attend Camilla's 50th birthday party

It's true that Prince Charles's 50th birthday bash for Camilla was somewhat overshadowed by the coverage of Diana on holiday with the Fayed family in St Tropez, but there are some inconsistencies around the party itself. 

In The Crown's depiction, Princess Margaret is the only one to attend the birthday party, with the Queen unwilling to endorse Charles' relationship with Camilla at the time. However, in reality she wasn't there according to reporting from royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith in The Times. 

In episode one of The Crown, Charles shows his romantic side, making an impassioned toast about season chances to Camilla that includes Captain Wentworth’s famous letter from Jane Austen’s Persuasion. But according to Sally Bedell Smith, there was no toast—nor a birthday cake. In fact, the only person who spoke at the event was Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles, who simply said “Happy birthday, Mummy" and thanked Charles for hosting the party. 

5. Prince Charles and Princess Diana's truce

In a heartwarming moment in episode two, Princess Diana and Prince Charles share a poignant moment in what was unbeknownst to them, their last meeting, making a promise to each other to be 'brilliant at divorce' for the sake of not just the children, but also themselves. 

While this does add a peaceful conclusion to their turbulent story, there isn't much evidence to suggest that this intimate moment actually happened, with whatever went on in their last conversation an understandably private moment. 

6. Princess Diana met with a psychic

It's been well documented that Princess Diana did indeed meet with psychic Rita Rogers, flying in the Harrods helicopter to the Derbyshire village of Grassmoor to seek advice from who was thought to have become a trusted friend. 

Speaking to The Derbyshire Times after Diana's death in 2003, Rita said of their relationship: "She rang at least once a week to see how I was as well as for readings. I still feel her around me. She's happy and she's proud of her boys. The crash was an accident - and no, she wasn't pregnant as people have said.

"She was very fond of Dodi. She rang me at 4pm, nine hours before the crash, to tell me she was in Paris and Dodi had gone to get the ring. But I know she was still very fond of Charles."

7. Kate Middleton met Princess Diana as a teenager

This is definitely where some creative license has come into play for The Crown producers. In Season six, episode seven, a teenage Kate Middleton and her mother Carole spot Princess Diana and Prince William while out shopping in London. They go over to the Princess, who is surrounded by fans and enjoy a warm exchange, where Catherine introduces herself to William for the first time. 

However, this exchange never really happened. Prince William has opened up previously about his sadness that his wife will never get to meet his mother. The Prince of Wales said after his wedding during an ABC interview (as reported by People): "I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud. I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate." Princess Catherine herself has also previously confirmed that she never met her late mother-in-law, explaining: "I never, sadly, got to meet her,” Today reported. “She’d be brilliant. We miss her every day."

8. Elizabeth and Margaret snuck out on VE Day 1945

One of the highlights of the second instalment of The Crown's final series was seein a young Queen Elizabeth (in a stand-out performance from Viola Prettejohn) and Margaret sneak out of Buckingham Palace on VE Day in 1945. In the eighth episode of the series, 'The Ritz', we see the sisters celebrating the end of World War II in Europe out of the streets in a rare act of rebellion. And this did actually happen - though it was regarded as a bit of a secret moment for the late Queen before Peter Morgan captured this poignant event in the show. 

Sally Bedell Smith details in her biography, Elizabeth The Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch (via TIME) that the sisters met up with a group of guards, the King’s equerry, and a governess before making their way out into the crowds. Bedell Smith recalls how Elizabeth danced along St James’s Street doing the conga and the hokey-cokey, joining the crowds in their chants of "We want the King! We want the Queen!" 

The Queen herself has also spoken of that "memorable" night. She told the BBC in 1985: "I remember we were terrified of being recognized so I pulled my uniform cap well down over my eyes". She also described the "lines of unknown people linking arms and walking down Whitehall, and all of us were swept along by tides of happiness and relief," calling the evening "one of the most memorable nights of my life".

9. The Queen was set to abdicate before Charles' marriage to Camilla

Whether the Queen wanted to abdicate the throne before Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles's wedding is difficult to determine. The Crown depicts a personal moment for the Queen, the revelations made via a speech that was never actually read. 

It's difficult to say whether these were thoughts that the Queen struggled with at this time, but the likelihood that she would voluntarily give up the throne is slim, at least according to royal historians. “One main reason why the Queen will absolutely not abdicate is unlike other European monarchs, she is an anointed Queen,” royal historian Hugo Vickers previously told the Guardian. “And if you are an anointed Queen, you do not abdicate.”

The anecdote in question came from Royal photographer David Bailey during a past appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show to promote his book Look Again. As he opened up about his career, Bailey touched on one particular incident with Princess Diana as a stand-out moment.

The photographer recalled a photoshoot with Princess Diana, explaining how one of his camera assistants had dropped a lighting umbrella on her head.

"One of my assistants dropped an umbrella light on her head," he explained, "[and] when she was leaving, she said, 'Which assistant dropped the umbrella on my head?' I said [pointing], 'It was her'."

"Kate admired Diana’s taste in fashion before William came into her life," a royal source previously explained of the two women's shared fashion taste to Us Weekly. "During her school days she’d tell friends that Diana was her style icon."

The source continued: "It would be wrong to say that Kate is trying top Diana as the royal family’s best dressed. A more accurate description is that she is taking inspiration from the late Princess..."

The Wales family has been front and centre this past week, and while the Prince and Princess of Wales have been busy with their outings and duties, it is their family life that gets the world talking the most. 

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis joined their parents at Princess Kate's 'Together at Christmas' carol service this weekend, with Prince Louis even making his royal debut at the annual event.

Unsurprisingly the image has gone viral, with 2.5 million likes already, and comments in their hundreds showing their appreciation. 

A lot of the praise surrounded the wardrobe choices, with all five of the family members sporting a white button down shirt and dark trousers.

This, some believe, is a special nod to Princess Diana, who was known for the iconic look. In fact, on closer inspection, the late Princess of Wales sported the ensemble on the regular, from royal events to casual errands.

"Such a great photo!" posted one royal fan. "It reminds me of those black and white shots of Princess Diana with William and Harry."

Another commented: "Gorgeous family, love the white shirt and jeans look. More like Diana than Charles. George looks so much like his grandmother." 

The Christmas portrait has also been praised for its modernity, with experts reporting that it could additionally be a nod to the new and relatable era that the Wales family will bring to the monarchy.

This according to experts is far more "radical" than we know, with royal expert Daniele Elser previously explaining that "William and Kate’s social media transformation is emblematic of a far more significant intellectual shift in their journey towards the throne."

According to a friend of Prince William, the heir will also find this season especially difficult given that there are reportedly scenes of Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, depicted as a ghost. 

Reports claim that the late Princess will appear in The Crown season 6 after her untimely death, in one scene telling her ex-husband, the then-Prince Charles: "Thank you for how you were in hospital. So raw, broken—and handsome. I’ll take that with me." 

There is also said to be a scene with Diana and the Queen, where she tells the monarch: "As long as anyone can remember, you’ve taught us what it means to be British. Maybe it’s time to show you’re ready to learn too."

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliam previously told Mail Online: "The whole idea that Peter Morgan has scripted ghostly appearances by Diana is utterly tasteless. It is pitiful that someone with his skills has reduced what is undoubtedly a tragedy to something that he knows perfectly well will be controversial."

Now, a friend of the Prince of Wales has added that he would be 'sickened' by the 'hurtful' portrayal.

They told the Daily Beast: "It’s incredibly hurtful to have his mother exploited over and over again in this tawdry fashion by Netflix. He won’t watch it, but he will be totally sickened by it."

They also said that Harry's affiliation with the streaming platform is a contentious issue, adding: "William is angry about a lot of things in connection with Harry. His decision to work with Netflix, who have ruthlessly exploited the family, is certainly one of them."

However, Netflix has defended the upcoming season and has said that they approached the 'sensitive' nature of the conversations between the characters with a spokesperson saying: "After her death, Diana appears as part of an inner dialogue in separate scenes with Prince Charles and the Queen, who are both reflecting on their relationship with the late princess.

"These sensitive and thoughtful imagined conversations seek to bring to life the depth of emotion that was felt after such a seismic tragedy struck at the heart of the family."

Princess Diana was very close with both of her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, but according to one royal expert she often leaned on William especially when she needed support and comfort.

This, Jennie Bond believes, must have been quite difficult for a young William, who was just 15 when his mother tragically passed away.

"Diana showered William with hugs and kisses, just as she did Harry, but William had to bear the brunt of some of Diana’s emotional needs," Jennie told OK!.

"As her marriage collapsed, she would lean on William for support and he would famously pass her tissues and a note under the bathroom door to try to comfort her when she was crying."

Jennie added that this was likely to have been a lot for William to deal with, but that he was always there for his mum regardless.

"William probably knew more about marital problems than any young boy should have to know. And of course the state of the royal marriage was always in the headlines," the expert explained.

"Diana was quite a volatile person and, even though she tried to protect both boys from the rows and upsets with Charles, she also turned to William for support."

Diana and then-Prince Charles' marriage was famously unhappy, with both parties eventually having highly publicised affairs. They eventually separated in 1992, before divorcing in 1996.

Of course, throughout their marriage and tumultuous separation, the two were always the subjects of all sorts of headlines and reports, which will have been incredibly upsetting for William and Harry to see.

Jennie referred to one set of headlines that were particularly upsetting for the boys: "I remember talking to the Princess during a trip to Japan. The biography of Charles by Jonathan Dimbleby had just been published. 

"She told me the headlines it spawned had been incredibly hurtful for William and Harry and she didn’t want them to see the book."

There are a few things you may remember from the Met Gala last year - there was an unexpected engagement, Blake Lively's colour-changing dress was a dream, and let's not forget Rihanna's surprise honour. 

However, one of the most talked about moments was Kim Kardashian stepping out on the red carpet wearing one of Marilyn Monroe's most iconic dresses. 

Marilyn famously wore the sparkly gown back in 1962 when she sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy, and Kim was given the dress on loan for the Met Gala red carpet. 

But she faced huge backlash when videos went viral claiming that she had damaged the historical item. The owners of the piece, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, later issued a statement denying that Kim had caused any ruin to the garment. 

While she had borrowed the item purely for the event, Ripley's also gifted Kim a lock of Marilyn's hair to keep. 

Now, The Kardashians star is adding to her trove of historical pieces as she has just bought one of Princess Diana's iconic necklaces. 

Kim paid £163,800 for the late royal's Attallah Cross statement pendant when it went on sale at Sotheby's London. 

The cross is a 1920's piece by luxury jewellery designer Garrard, and is made from square-cut amethysts and circular-cut diamonds. 

According to reports, Kim's representative was in a bidding war with three others during the last five minutes of the sale on Wednesday, which she eventually won. The piece, which Diana famously wore at a London charity gala in 1987, sold for more than double its pre-auction estimate.

Ahead of its sale, the head of jewellery at Sotheby's London, Kristian Spofforth, said: "Jewellery owned or worn by the late Princess Diana very rarely comes on to the market, especially a piece such as the Attallah cross, which is so colourful, bold and distinctive."

It is also reported that Kim owns one of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' watches, paying $379,500 for the piece back in 2017. 

She's building up quite the collection!

With Prince Harry's memoir Spare set to be released tomorrow, the Duke of Sussex has opened up about the revelations that we can expect to see in his autobiography during two tell-all interviews, both of which aired yesterday. 

Harry spoke to Tom Bradby for ITV and Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes on CBS in two separate interviews, detailing the contents of the upcoming memoir. 

During his chat with Bradby, the Duke spoke about his fractured relationship with Prince William, the secret code the brothers shared in moments of crisis and how he is open to reconciling with members of the royal family. 

While sitting down with Cooper, Harry made some controversial claims about Camilla, Queen Consort and detailed his relationship with his step-mother, admitting he had thought of her as a 'villain' and 'dangerous'. 

But it's the Prince's candid discussion of using drugs that has surprised many, with Harry admitting to trying marijuana, cocaine and magic mushrooms in the past. 

During the conversation, Harry spoke about how he attempted to deal with the grief of losing his mother, the late Princess Diana, by turning to drugs and alcohol. 

Discussing his difficulty with processing his emotions, he said he only cried once at her burial, but later in life would try and find videos of his mother to spark an emotional reaction. 

He explained: "There was this weight on my chest that I felt for so many years that I was never able to cry. So I was constantly trying to find a way to cry, but, in even sitting on my sofa and going over as many memories as I could muster up about my mum. And sometimes I watched videos online."

Harry went on to talk about using drugs such as 'psychedelics, Ayahuasca, psilocybin, mushrooms' to try and process his grief. 

He said: "I would never recommend people to do this recreationally. But doing it with the right people if you are suffering from a huge amount of loss, grief or trauma, then these things have a way of working as a medicine.

"For me, they cleared the windscreen, the windshield, the misery of loss. They cleared away this idea that I had in my head that I needed to cry to prove to my mother that I missed her. When in fact, all she wanted was for me to be happy."

Spare will be released on Tuesday 10th January. 

There's no two ways about it: Princess Diana was the original monarch who ruled the art of royal dressing. She seamlessly embraced royal etiquette, all the while setting her own fashion rules, like not wearing gloves on official visits and single-handedly making the Dior Lady Di bag one of the most coveted in the world.

It might come as a surprise to hear that when Princess Diana first got engaged, she had no interest in fashion. But overnight, she went from a shy young aristocrat to a soon-to-be princess in the limelight and had to dress accordingly. At first, her style was very twee. 

According to Diana's former stylist, Anna Harvey, "Diana started off being really safe with her style. It was all very ‘Laura Ashley’." Cue bows, frills and, in other words, every little girl's interpretation of a fairytale princess.

Princess Diana's wedding dress embodied exactly that aesthetic, thanks to its cathedral-length trail, puffy sleeves and miles and miles of taffeta - and FYI, did you know there was a second dress made as a backup, and that her wedding tiara had a special meaning?

Ask any millennial woman to name an iconic wedding dress from the last century and we're 90% sure they'll name Diana's fairytale showstopper from her 1981 royal wedding. Presumably, the others would mention Kate Middleton, who was a bride precisely 30 years later. 

Complete with a 25ft train, Diana's gown was designed by David and Elizabeth Emmanuel along with the bride herself. It's the epitome of everything little girls dream of in a princess wedding dress.

In the mid to late '80s, as Diana's love of fashion and her confidence grew, she began to make some bolder fashion choices. The exhibition curator of Diana: Her Fashion Story, Eleri Lynn, commented, "We see her growing in confidence throughout her life, increasingly taking control of how she was represented, and intelligently communicating through her clothes."

There were the bold evening gowns, including the midnight blue Victor Edelstein dress she wore to dance with John Travolta on a state visit to the US to meet Ronald and Nancy Reagan. In fact, that dress was hailed as a departure from her usual 'safe' style. 

She became known for her Dynasty-esque sequin gowns, and bold-coloured shoulder pads, which she pulled off elegantly. During the day, she favoured power suits and dresses in equally bright designs and prints, always worn with matching accessories like pillar box hats.

It wasn't until the mid-90s that Princess Diana really found her style: it was no coincidence that this coincided with her divorce. The brash colours and exaggerated silhouettes of the '80s were replaced in favour of sleeker, more minimal outfits in muted tones.

Perhaps one of her most famous of all was the black Christina Stambolian ‘revenge dress’ she wore to the Serpentine Gallery summer party in 1994, the same night Prince Charles admitted to having an affair with Camilla. Many would have hidden away from the limelight, but she emerged confident as ever.

Diana almost didn't wear the dress, which she thought was too low cut, and in fact, had intended on wearing a Versace gown instead, but was put off at the last minute after a release went out announcing her outfit.

She also nailed her working wardrobe, favouring chic Catherine Walker suits and tailored dresses, and became known for her simple evening dresses.

At the age of 19, Princess Diana’s style was much more demure than her later years. She favoured shirts and feminine blouses, and loved wearing an initial necklace around her neck.

The Engagement, 1981

Princess Diana and King Charles got engaged in 1981, and the outfit she wore to the announcement at Buckingham Palace was power dressing at its best, neckerchief and all. The 'Lover's Knot' Tiara at The British Embassy, Washington, 1985

While this gorgeous lace white gown is nothing short of princess-like, the tiara is the big deal here. Gifted to Diana as a wedding present in 1981, the 'Lover's Knot' tiara is encrusted with diamonds and teardrop pearls. 

It was designed by Queen Elizabeth's grandmother in 1914 and was reportedly Diana's favourite. So, naturally, when Kate Middleton wore it to a function a few years ago the world could barely contain its excitement.

The tiara is currently in the possession of Princess Kate, who also happened to wear the item a few weeks ago to a state banquet.

Another iconic moment during which Princess Diana captured the hearts of the world; showing off her fun side by dancing with a young John Travolta at a White House dinner held by President Reagan.

The 'Swan Lake Suite Necklace', 1997

One of Princess Diana's last public appearances before her tragic death in 1997 was to see Swan Lake at the Royal Albert Hall in June. The necklace she wore for the performance, since nicknamed the 'Swan Lake Suite Necklace' and made of 178 diamonds and pearls, became iconic. It went on sale for approximately 10 million pounds earlier this year.

The Crown series 5 has been riding high on Netflix ever since it was released last week, but there's one storyline that fans want to know more about: how Princess Diana met Dodi Fayed.

The popular show has had an actor switch up, including Dominic West playing Charles and Elizabeth Debecki playing Princess Diana. This season also shows the royals in the 90s, with portrayals of how Diana fell out of love with Charles and in love with Dodi.

The late Princess, who died over 25 years ago, had originally met the son of Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed in the late 80s, but it wasn't until the summer of 1997, just months before they both passed away, that they started to date.

In August it marked 25 years since Princess Diana's tragic passing, however, both Prince William and Prince Harry have spoken about how her death has affected them since.

Princess Diana - who was travelling by car with her partner Dodi Fayed when their car crashed in a Paris tunnel - had originally met at a polo match, which is similar to how they meet in The Crown. However, it seems they stayed friends, as they were spotted together in St Tropez in the summer of 1997 where they were holidaying together on a yacht.

The couple started dating straight away and are believed to have sailed around the Mediterranean that summer. Their whirlwind romance even could have come with a proposal, with the Washington Post reporting that they visited jewellers in Monaco together where they both chose an emerald cut diamond ring for the Princess. 

However, after just a few days in Paris together, the paparazzi chased the couple into a tunnel with their driver speeding up to get away from the photographers.

When the crash happened on August 31st 1997, the driver of the car and Dodi Fayed died instantly. However, Princess Diana was still alive when emergency workers found her at the scene but later passed away. 

Her death came as a shock to many, with tributes from around the world - mourning the loss of both a mother to William and Harry, and an iconic Princess to the rest of the world.

Biographer Andrew Morton, famed for his Princess Diana biography Diana: Her True Story - In Her Own Words, has shared his opinion on The Crown and its portrayal of the late royal. Morton knew Princess Diana personally as he interviewed her in secret for the biography. 

In a recent interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Morton shared his views on the Netflix series and actor Elizabeth Debicki’s portrayal of Princess Diana. Calling her performance “astonishing” and Golden Globe-worthy, he said: “It was like being in the room with Diana.

“I don’t say this lightly, but that performance really conveys the Diana that I got to know for a couple of years in the early 1990s."

Princess Diana’s secret interviews with Morton form part of The Crown’s latest series and he added he’d seen the Netflix show’s depiction of the moment, a moment which “struck” him. 

He said: “The paper that I typed the book on was the same paper. The typeface was the same. The attention to detail was astounding.

“I’m really quite blown away by it." 

Morton also shared that he has previously served as a consultant for The Crown, however he had nothing to do with the scripts themselves. 

Speaking to Time yesterday, he said: “[The screenwriters] kept their cards very close and didn’t involve me in the script writing process. They just wanted the factual detail.” 

The fifth and most recent series of The Crown was released on Netflix yesterday. Spanning the 1990s, the latest season delves into the breakdown of Princess Diana and King Charles’ marriage and her tragic death in Paris - though producers have confirmed they will “not show the exact moment of the crash impact.”

Elizabeth Debicki takes over from actor Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, in line with The Crown’s decision to recast its actors to emphasise the passage of time throughout the series. 

King Charles, then a Prince at the time period the show depicts, will be portrayed by Dominic West following Josh O’Connor's award-winning turn as the royal, joined by Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

The Crown season 5 is streaming on Netflix now.

Soon after Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed away, King Charles named his eldest son William and his wife Kate Prince and Princess of Wales, as it was expected he would do.

This was extremely symbolic, because Charles had been Prince of Wales for 64 years, and his first wife Diana became synonymous with the Princess of Wales title. In fact, though Camilla technically became Princess of Wales upon marrying Charles in 2005, she didn't use that title out of respect for the late Diana.

So now, William and Kate have an unprecedented job to do: to carve their own path after taking over these iconic titles. But for former royal butler Grant Harrold, there's no doubt the new Waleses are up to the task — not least because of the strong marriage they share, as opposed to Charles and Diana's tragedy-laden union.

"It’s a tricky job for them to fill because of the King when he was Prince of Wales and obviously Diana, because there’s a lot of strong memories," Grant told OnlineCasino.ca.

"William and Kate have been married about as long as Charles and Diana were — look at how those two are still a complete 100% team, so it’s very different.

"You look at them already and they’ve only been Prince and Princess of Wales for over a month and we already see them as a Prince and Princess of Wales."

Grant believes Kate's success in her new role lies in her not trying to emulate Diana.

"I think what’s nice for her is she hasn’t got big shoes to fill because Diana was a unique one-off Princess of Wales who we all loved," the butler said.

"Kate’s from a very different background, they’ve been dating from a very similar age, from university age. They’ve grown up together, they’ve had a family. It’s not like he was Prince of Wales then he married her. They’ve become it together so it’s so different."

The other piece to this story is that William and Kate are widely beloved by royal watchers, so people want them to be a wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales.

"I think they don’t put a foot wrong, they never put a foot wrong, just like the Queen," Grant observed.

"I see almost a very mirrored effect between William and Kate and the Queen and Prince Philip but 80 years apart. Two very similar couples, very similar love, very similar dedication to duty, but two very different types of royals, one very traditional and one very modern, and that’s part of this transition."

Princess Dianna passed away in 1997

Prince Harry claims he can see his late mother, Princess Diana, in him and honours her in everything he does.

The 37-year-old royal was 12 years old when he lost his mum in 1997.

Though he was still a child, and not quite a teenager, when the Princess of Wales passed away he "saw and felt the energy lift" from everyone she met, and hopes he can do the same.

Speaking to People magazine, the Duke of Sussex - who has son Archie and daughter Lilibet with wife Meghan Markle - said: "In the 12 short years I was lucky enough to have with her, I saw and felt the energy and lift she got from helping others, no matter their background, ailment or status. Her life and theirs was better for it, however short theirs or hers was.

"I honour my mother in everything I do. I am my mother's son.

"I certainly hope and believe everything I do makes her proud."

Prince Harry has followed in Diana's footsteps as he has carried on his late mother's charity work, including the organisation Halo Trust in Huambo, Angola, which Diana worked with during the nineties.

Harry has hit the headlines lately, and sparked further controversy among the royal family as he recently aired his concern over his grandmother's protection and security, much to other relatives' frustration.

Speaking earlier this week to NBC about his visit to London, Harry said: “She’s always got a great sense of humour with me and I’m just making sure that she’s protected and got the right people around her. Both Meghan and I had tea with her, so it was really nice to catch up with her. We have a really special relationship, we talk about things that she can’t talk about with anybody else.”

Harry’s father, Prince Charles, is “weary” of the ongoing slants fired at the royal family, though a separate source told the Mail Online he was pleased to see his son.

Prince Charles is next in line for the throne, if the Queen abdicates or passes away.

While the thought of a new King or Queen of England may be an unsettling prospect for some, as her Majesty has reigned for an impressive 70 years and will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year, one royal expert thinks the Prince of Wales will act like a grandfather to the nation when his time comes to take over.

Royal author Tina Brown, who is set to release her new bookThe Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor – the Truth and the Turmoil told The Telegraph: "I think Charles could become the grandfather of the nation.

"I actually think people might rally to him because he is an authentic person and he’s coming in at a moment when his own passions really do meld with the times we live in. His long-standing passion for the environment and concern about climate change, these are not Palace-manufactured things."

Tina also thinks Charles' wife, Duchess Camilla, will make a great replacement to lead the country, as she believes the Duchess of Cornwall keeps Queen Elizabeth II's son in check.

She continued: "And I think Camilla has a chance to be a sort of instant queen mother. She’s got a lot of charm and naturalness and they have this incredible bond as a couple.

"Camilla is the horse whisperer for him. She understands his temperament perfectly. She’s got that incredible mistress’s EQ [emotional intelligence] about when to be tart in terms of pulling him up if he’s being pompous… There’s a little bit of tough love, but it’s always couched with warmth and humour. It’s very like how the Queen Mother was with George VI. She was able to manage him without him knowing he was being managed. And that’s true of Camilla; I think she steadies Charles in a way that is very healthy for him. He’s a much more relaxed man when he’s around her and she does make him laugh. She’s a funny woman. And she shares all his interests and friends which Diana never shared."

Tina believes the late Princess Diana would have been disappointed at the thought of Camilla as Queen of England.

She added: "Diana would have loathed the idea of Queen Camilla, there’s no question about it, but we’re 25 years on. The Queen’s always been a pragmatist and she knows Charles wants Camilla to be queen. So what the Queen wants to do now is tidy up and do what she can to help Charles take on the role. It was a very shrewd bit of estate planning to make that declaration."

Prince George's godmother, who was a close friend to Princess Diana, has revealed she honours the late royal with her unusual gifts for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's oldest child.

Julia Samuel has started a little prank when it comes to gift giving, which has now become a tradition she finds highly amusing.

The prank is giving the George, eight, inconvenient gifts, which are noisy and take a while to build, which we assume William has to tackle, because this is what Diana used to do to her.

Speaking on the How To Fail podcast with Elizabeth Day, Julia, 62, - who is one of Prince George's seven godparents - said: "I do to George what [Diana] did to us. Which is give impossible toys which are really noisy, take a lot of making."

"I come in slightly tipped by the size of the present that William then has to spend days putting together.

"And then put all the machinery together and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that. That makes me laugh and it makes George laugh."

Julia, who is the founder patron of the Child Bereavement charity - has revealed the Queen's great grandson is quite the character, and the late Princess of Wales would have adored him.

She added: "He is amazing. He’s funny and feisty and cheeky and God [Diana] would have loved him so much. That is heartbreaking for all of them."

While George is entertained bu Julia's gifts, William and Kate have previously revealed their son has a penchant for computer games, as well as football and aeroplanes.

But the love of computer games is a habit the couple - who also have daughter Princess Charlotte and son Prince Louis - are trying to get him out of by limiting their children's screen time.

Princess Diana's former voice coach has admitted he was not impressed with Kristen Stewart's portrayal of the late royal in the film Spencer. 

Stewart Pearce worked with the late Princess of Wales for two years as a private voice and presence coach, to perfect her voice, posture and look, in preparation for when she was thrust into the spotlight.

After spending time with Prince William and Harry's late mother, believes her true spirit and grace was not portrayed as well as could be in the film directed by Pablo Larraín.

He noted that instead of Diana's calm and soft tones, Pearce found Kristen's dialogue lacked 'flow and grace', and was rushed in parts.

Speaking to the Daily Express about his thoughts on the recent release, the 68-year-old said: 'I was challenged by it in really interesting ways. It was not comfortable to watch. Kristen's rhythms were very staccato and very breathy.

'It seemed that many of the actors had been encouraged to speak in a conspiratorial manner. They were all using these very, very half voices and moving so fast it was often very difficult to hear what was going on', he added.

The former aide - who wrote the book Diana: The Voice of Change - believes viewers may be inclined to 'switch off' when watching the film.

'My work is about how we don't judge the characters that we are playing, but we find points of empathy so that we truly care about what is taking place on the screen. If actors don't care about the people that they are playing, automatically that is communicated to the audience.

'Now the audience won't necessarily pick up the subtlety of that, but what they will do is switch off their screens or leave the movie theatre because the vibration doesn't enrapture them', Pearce shared.

Spencer depicts the breakdown of Princess Diana and Prince Charles' marriage, and the days spent in Sandringham over Christmas where Diana decided to end her relationship after rumours circulated around Charles' love life, which put a strain on their own romance.

According to Deadline, Spencer cost over £13.3 million to produce, but brought in £1.5 million, after screening in 996 cinemas across the globe.
