The Autumn/Winter 2026 Fashion Week season is upon us, and with it comes a whole host of superb beauty looks. From the great return of eyeshadow to the ever-present focus on skin, so far, this season is about considered maximalism and technical skill.

Paris Fashion Week

Victoria Beckham: Matte pink lips

Make-up artist Lucia Pica created matte pink lips on the models, using the brand's Posh Balm in Colette.

Tom Ford: Velvet lips

The vampy, velvet lips at Tom Ford were created using the brand's Runway Lip Stylo Matte in 16 Scarlet Rouge.

Milan Fashion Week

Sportmax: Orange eyes

At Sportmax, models wore vibrant orange cat eyes, all across their lids.

Prada: Grunge returns

Models sported blocky black eyes and exaggerated under-eye bags at Prada; it was indie sleaze, but on steroids.

Bluemarine: Bronzed lids

There was a wash of goddess-like bronze across models' lids at Bluemarine.

Roberto Cavalli: Gothic lips

Bold, almost black lips were the name of the game at Roberto Cavalli.

Moschino: Minimalist lines

Models wore incredibly precise, jet back eyeliner, including in the water and tight line.

Gucci: Party make-up

At Gucci, new creative director Demna Gvasalia evoked the party vibe of the late 90's. There were smudgy, smoked out eyes, and glossy red lips.

Fendi: Taupe minimalism

Renowned make-up artist Pat McGrath went minimal, lightly sculpting models' eyes and lips with pared back taupe shades.

London Fashion Week

Selasi: Make sweat great again

Backstage at Selasi, Herbar, who specialise in science-backed, mushroom-led skincare, set out to reframe sweat as a signal rather than a spectacle. Models' skin was left dewy, with no heavy setting, no mattifying, no blotting. Instead, it responded to heat and movement in real time.

Completed Works: 'Oil painting' skin

Make-up artist Zoe Taylor used Morphe to channel a 90's aesthetic over at Completed Works. When it came to the star of the show, Jemima Kirke, she built up several shades of cream blush, with a particular favourite being the plum shade 'Wine and Dine'. The models' mirror-like shine was enhanced by backstage skin prep from 111Skin.

Erdem: Structural Glass Skin

Celebrity facialist Hadda Akrim gave SkinCeuticals Express Glass Skin Sculpting Facials backstage at Erdem. The treatment was designed to lift, de-puff and enhance skin integrity to ensure the skin looked firm, bouncy and radiant through multiple show changes.

Julien MacDonald: Bronzed goddess

Julian MacDonald partnered with Charlotte Tilbury to deliver the brand's signature, sexy glam. The eyes were blown-out and elongated with a suffused, smoky haze, and framed with dialled-up lashes. The look was finished with a metallic, light-catching sparkle on the lids.

Simone Rocha: Eye-bags galore

At Simone Rocha, no attempt was made to cover the under-eyes of models—the result was an entirely natural, slightly puffy, discoloured eye area. This is one trend we can certainly get behind.

Chopowa Lowena: Liner art

Models at Chopowa Lowena sported this intricate, softly diffused liner and eyeshadow art reminiscent of flowers. It also acted as a nod to the Regency-era, which the designers were inspired by.

Harris Reed: Elongated Eyeliner

At Harris Reed, models wore jet black graphic eyeliner, which extended to the temples, and the under-eye area.

Dreaming Eli: Versailles Chic

At Dreaming Eli, make-up artists drew inspiration from the make-up of the French court during Marie Antoinette's reign. As such, the base was white, and accented with dramatic, messy pops of colour on the cheeks and lips.

Bora Aksu: 'Dead Girl' Greige

Make-up artists made models' skin and lips super pale, à la the "dead girl" aesthetic that saw a surge in popularity last year. The lids were softly washed with grey to complete the look.

New York Fashion Week

Ralph Lauren: More blush please

Models at Ralph Lauren, including Gigi Hadid, sported the "cold girl blush" look to dramatic effect. In fact, it was rather reminiscent of Margot Robbie's flushed, ruddy cheeks in Emerald Fennell's "Wuthering Heights".

Marc Jacobs: Vampy Minimalism

Over at Marc Jacobs, the focus was either on the eyes or the lips—never both. I loved the vampy feel of this super dark lip paired with incredibly minimal skin and apparently nothing on the eyes. Even the nails were bare.

Anna Sui: Graphic, Metallic Eyeliner

This oversized eyeliner look at Anna Sui was part indie sleaze and part 60's mod.

Private Policy: Peach is in

20's style, super skinny eyebrows and a soft, diffused peach lid were on the catwalk over at Private Policy.

Carolina Herrera: OTT Eyeshadow

Make-up artist James Kaliardos washed models' lids with a single bright colour, extending right up to the brow bone.

The success of fashion month hinges on the shock of the new, whether that's trends or names-to-know. But while the clothes might shift from season to season, with different references, silhouettes, colour palettes and moods, there's a habit that's harder to change: casting. Karoline Vitto, one of the most exciting talents at London Fashion Week, put it best in her press release with its deadpan opening question: "'Where did all the curve models go?,' the headlines asked. Nowhere. The weight of body diversity should not rest on a handful of designers. But with Karoline Vitto and her contemporaries taking a step back over the past couple seasons for one reason or another, it felt like curve model casting had all but frozen over." Hers was a show that drew on silhouettes from the '90s and 'early '00s, "minus the heroin chic body ideals," cleverly adapting toxic standards of the past into something that did not demonise but celebrated, with a teardrop cut-out placed over the hip bone in one instance that gave its gown exquisite oomph.

Vitto might not be among the majority but she's also not alone. Because for AW26, collections for which have so far been shown in Copenhagen, New York and now London, there were tentative signs of more interesting (read: inclusive) casting. As well as being a sustainability champion, Copenhagen Fashion Week has become an example of how brands can think differently (or differently to what has come before) when it comes to who models their clothes.

At Skall Studio, the process has always been more than a specific "look". Rather, its sibling founders, Julie and Marie Skall, seek out, "women with personality, women who stand for something and who feel aligned with our values", they tell Marie Claire, emphasising that it's a different approach to what you might think of as traditional street casting. "Often, there is already a relationship. They might be part of our extended community, or someone who embodies the quiet confidence and integrity we value. When you cast based on personality and values, diversity happens very organically. You automatically see different ages, body types and expressions of femininity," they say.

These sentiments chime with the ethos at OpéraSPORT, another brand showing as part of CPHFW. "When people see a range of body types, ages, and backgrounds on the runway, it creates connection. It makes the clothes feel real and attainable, not distant or exclusive," says co-founder Awa Malina Stelter. "For us, diversity is not a statement for attention; it’s a reflection of the community we design for. We want people to see themselves, or someone they recognise, in our shows."

That word—"community"—is important. Because if a brand's customer base is broad, shouldn't that richness be reflected on the catwalk? At Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon asked members of the art world, from painters to gallery-founders to sculptors to photographers, to walk in the show, giving the clothes—assertive, easy and artistic—even more life. As the press release detailed: "For Fall 2026, Carolina Herrera draws inspiration from a community of women, past and present, whose work and influence have shaped the landscape of art. Whether artists or muses, patrons, gallerists, curators or collectors, they lead lives of bold self-expression, talent, and style."

This is an establishment brand—one of the on-schedule designers that is worn by some of the most powerful women in America—making a refreshing casting decision, one that was neither a box-ticking exercise nor a novelty but infused the collection itself. Why this makes a difference is because the people who continue to push the so-called envelope when it comes to casting are independents, smaller brands who essentially have to carry the can for the entire industry. "We have less to lose and more to say," says Hillary Taymour, founder and creative director of Collina Strada. "Big houses carry history, shareholder expectations, and legacy fantasies built on exclusivity. That doesn’t mean they can’t change, but change is slower when the image is already monetised. Independent brands are often born from lived experience, so nuance isn’t a strategy, it’s a necessity."

Having said that, Chanel's Haute Couture show opened with a grey-haired model—Stephanie Cavalli, who also appeared on the brand's catwalk for Metier's d'art. This was a different kind of Couture, softer, lighter, modern and highly want-able, and its artistic director's choice of model perhaps reflected that women who can afford these clothes—translucent twin-sets that are whisper-thin, delicate but just as gorgeous as ball gowns—are probably older than 25.

For some brands, an inclusive approach to casting has always been part of their DNA, not a gimmick or a way to gain traction. "From our very first show, we decided to do things differently," says Marta Marques, co-founder of Marques' Almeida. "We didn’t really agree with how agency models were being treated, the focus on body shapes, heights, and looks, with no real attention to them as people." That's the key, not diversity for diversity's sake but something deeper. "We hope people notice not just differences in age, race, size, or style, but also in posture or personality—some girls are shy, some bold—but they all feel comfortable, supported, and part of a unit that lifts each other up. That’s the real message: that even in small communities, people can support one another and create something meaningful," says Marques.

No other animal print can dethrone leopard, with too many disciples of an iconic calibre (Pat Butcher, Cookie Lyon, Samantha Jones, to name but a few) and so much exposure that, by now, it's practically considered a neutral. But on the streets outside New York Fashion Week, that didn't stop other alternative, prints getting a serious showing on some of the city's most stylish women, from the lesser-spotted fawn to Dalmatian.

Not only do these alternatives quite literally make passers-by look twice—as they wonder if those splotches really are giraffe or perhaps cowhide—but wearing a somewhat lesser-spotted species than leopard will mean that it always stands out, which, at the end of the day, should be any animal print's MO.

Standing out was definitely the memo in New York. The Cut's Lindsey Peoples led the charge, wearing a coat that resembled a lynx, plus a snake-print handbag. Who said you can't mix reptile with mammal?

Another show-goer followed a similar formula, with cow-print outerwear—long enough to just touch her ankle—and an outfit underneath that complemented its cream-and-brown palette.

But with so little time until spring, another street-styler's approach might be more expedient. Stylist Jessica Willis gave an otherwise pared-down look—a khaki jacket, black trousers and soft-leather boots—some extra flavour with an animal-print accessory, in this case a tiger-striped bucket bag.

There's evidence that shoppers are fully on board with alt prints, too. M&S' snow-leopard jacket is almost out of stock online (I've seen it out in the wild and, can confirm, it's good), while cowhide is flying off the shelves at AllSaints, from a miniskirt to a jacket to jeans.

Which print you choose is entirely up to you, as is how much—or how many—you introduce into your outfit.

As mentioned, a gateway accessory is good for experimentation Déhanche, for example, has a snake-effect belt with its signature triple rings that would add something—call it the merest hint of sizzle—to basics. For top marks, however, you might want to consider a blazer, whether it's subtle (Mango's mock-croc jacket) or less so (Rabanne's zebra print). Either way, the rule of thumb is: the more surprising the print, the better.

Shop The Best Alternative Animal Prints

After a taster of new-season trends at Copenhagen Fashion Week, who's ready for New York? The AW26 shows might have just started, but attendees definitely aren't saving the best till last (i.e. Paris), with a sterling turn-out considering the minus temperatures. As you might expect, there's been plenty of hosiery (red and purple), shearling and semi-practical footwear (glove-style boots), but there have also been truly brilliant flourishes, perhaps not street-style trends but thoughtful gestures that make an outfit pop. Keep scrolling to read—and shop—five of our favourites.

Sock Boots

Paloma Elsesser might have walked in Proenza Schouler, but she also caught our eye outside the show with her scrunchy knee-high boots that were almost sock-like on first glance. An ankle-length pair that's smooth and fits the foot like it was custom made is what you're looking for.

Animal Print Jackets

With snow a fixture of the sidewalks, show-goers wrapped up in furry outerwear. Our favourite iteration was the animal-printed variety. Seen here on Laurel Pantin, who chose a ladylike cropped jacket which feels like the perfect middle point between cold and warm, it was a reminder that you should never change your spots if they're leopard.

Brooches

Fish-shaped pins gave one repeated combination—a round-collared shirt under a crew-neck jumper—a point of difference at Tory Burch, and a playful one at that. On the sidewalks outside, meanwhile, one show-goer decorated her outfit's exterior, serving despite the cold weather, by attaching a brooch to her coat. Smart, in both senses of the word.

Statement Scarves

Jalil Johnson's outfit immediately captured my attention. The tights! The perfectly-formed heel! The leather jacket! My favourite element, however, and the one that really tied it all together was the scarf, its geometric pattern offsetting the look's pops of red. Go vintage if you can for extra character or look for a print that's bold or, lastly, an embellishment that's out-of-the-ordinary.

Alt Skirt Suits

We've already written about how skirt suits have got their mojo back—and the evidence keeps mounting at NYFW, with designers advocating for an alternative approach. Marc Jacobs delivered tweedy two-pieces, as well as a "suit" comprising a funnel-necked zippered jacket with a straight-up-and-down knee-length skirt on Alex Consani, while on the streets outside Coach, one ticket-holder wore sportswear-esque separates. It might just be your new uniform.

New York

NYFW has already begun with a bang at Ralph Lauren, with a translucent hooded gown, winking with embellishment, that resembled high-fashion armour (a comment on the state of the nation and the need to steel oneself? Perhaps). It's most-anticipated show of AW26—Proenza Schouler—is showing today, however. It's Rachel Scott's inaugural collection as creative director, while her own label, Diotima, will be showing later in the week. Her appointment was met with something more than excitement, although there was plenty of that in the air. As one of the only women—not to mention women of colour—at the helm of a major design house, it's another (long-overdue) step towards parity in traditionally male-dominated spaces, in this case ateliers that, ironically, make clothes for women. Proenza Schouler has long been a byword for the kind of clothes that are easy to wear but make you look twice. With Scott's focus on craft, it's a debut that deserves the hype.

Elena Velez—whose designs have already been worn by fans including Jenna Ortega, Rosalía and Taylor Swift—will be showing her fourth collection as part of NYFW. Velez's clothes are reminiscent of historical garments with attitude—one skirt suit's bottom half currently on sale is strategically hoiked to reveal a under slip—and often flirt with controversy (Anna Delvey stepped on the catwalk, along with her tell-tale ankle monitor, last September). The American designers, with their sportswear DNA, are usually seen as being the most commercial of the core four. Not Velez, which is what makes her something of a wildcard.

Fforme is another one-to-watch. The American Phoebe Philo is how you could pitch it to someone who's not yet familiar with its easy artistic minimalism (see folded corset tops styled with chino-style pants for SS26).

London

London AW26's schedule will have no shortage of creative firebrands courtesy of famous talent incubator Fashion East, which last year celebrated 20 years. This season's line-up includes Jacek Gleba, Mayhew and newcomer Traiceline Pratt, whose designs have already been worn by A$AP Rocky.

Selasi is also making its first catwalk appearance in several years (its second to date). The brand is masterminded by creative, designer and curator Ronan Mckenzie, with the kind of clothes—thoughtful instead of trend-led—that have quietly won its legions of fans that appreciate her ability to blend fashion, books, flowers, you name it, with the label's spirit (Bibi Abdulkadir leaves an emoji under almost every post on Instagram). With a name that means "God hears me" from the Ghanaian Ewe, Selasi brings together its founder's multidisciplinary practices—making scent to furniture to original scores—all imbued with a sense of self-trust and belief that grounds every garment.

Joseph is returning to show after a hiatus of several years (its last creative director, Louise Trotter, is now at the helm of Bottega Veneta). Although its ready-to-wear comprises refined tailoring that's still the best in the business, its catwalk offering used to be boundary-pushing and, typically for London Fashion Week, usually shown in a dank warehouse. Will it return to its grungy roots under Mario Arena (a man who has form when it comes to edge with previous stints at Christopher Kane, as head of ready-to-wear, and JW Anderson, where he served as director of product and design)? We'll see but it looks promising.

Milan

It's debut season (again!) in Milan, with big-hitters arriving at three of the city's most historic (and influential) brands. Maria Grazia Chiuri will be presenting her first collection for Fendi, with the show scheduled on Wednesday 25 February. Excitingly, another woman also makes her debut at Marni, Meryll Rogge, on the following day, Thursday 26 February. With her eponymous label to simultaneously manage, Rogge is joining the ranks of newly-appointed creative directors wearing two hats such as Rachel Scott, making it a truly game-changing time for women firing on all cylinders.

Finally, Demna, who'll be making his hotly-anticipated catwalk debut at Gucci (Friday 27 February). While he's already made his mark, with a lookbook that caused more than a frisson of excitement as he created house characters such as "La VIP", "Milanesca" and "La Bomba" for SS26, this show will be his masterplan for the brand, a blueprint that could put Gucci, flailing somewhat after a few years of creative director comings and goings, back on top.

Paris

As well as a debut, a designer's final collection for a brand can be a bittersweet moment. That will almost certainly be the case at Alaïa, who is bidding farewell to Pieter Mulier, the man who is just in at Versace.

Elsewhere, second seasons can be just as telling as firsts, with the opportunity to either surprise or cement (see Dior, Jonathan Anderson will be presenting his second womenswear collection, Loewe and Jean Paul Gaultier).

More often than not, the street style spotted outside Fashion Week tends towards the purposefully peacock-y—and understandably so. For it's the brightest colours, biggest sparkles, boldest pattern clashes, and most unexpected styling choices that act as catnip for photographers, and thus guarantee a snap or two.

Fascinating as these outfits are to observe from afar however, they're hardly the most useful when it comes to real-life fashion inspiration. That’s why I always keep an eye out for the more realistically replicable street style looks—and this season, New York came up trumps. All of the city’s chicest industry insiders stepped out in variations of one particular piece during Fashion Week, and you probably already own it: a statement midi skirt.

Woefully underrated yet quietly powerful, the statement midi skirt hits that sartorial sweet spot somewhere between attention-grabbing and effortlessly low-key—particularly when paired with a simple tee, tank, shirt or light knit up top. It's the ultimate in high-low styling, not to mention a clever way to bring a particularly sparkly or party-worthy number down a few notches for the daytime.

See: actress Shailene Woodley, who paired an epic zebra-print maxi with a casual denim shirt to attend the Khaite show, and Instagram's Eva Chen, who topped a dramatic black feathered midi skirt with an oversize shirt and mesh pumps as she walked around the city. Prime examples of this wardrobe hero's innate versatility, as both pieces could be easily dressed up to suit even the most elegant, formal occasions with just a silky top, heels and a few choice accessories.

There were countless more examples outside the recent New York Fashion Week shows, ranging from brightly coloured silky slips, playful prints and rich embroidery, to skirts that made a statement with their off-kilter silhouettes. Even summery styles abounded, like bubble-hem and lace-trim designs, albeit paired with jackets, boots, tights or cosy knits to render them ready for the colder climes.

A reminder that there really is a statement midi skirt for everyone, and to suit every style—plus styling inspiration aplenty to draw on thanks to New York's fashion set, too.

Can you believe there was a time when no outfit was complete without a statement necklace? Mary-Kate Olsen was an early pioneer, repeat-wearing a turquoise beaded necklace for much of the early Noughties, and boho medallion necklaces were repped (hard) by Sienna Miller. (I distinctly remember wrapping a faux-onyx string of faceted stones around my neck once then twice in homage to MK.) Since then, they’ve fallen out of favour, replaced by subtle rope pendant necklaces, with initial pendants or something artisanal like a fish or wishbone.

At New York Fashion Week, however, the statement necklace was back on the catwalk at Ralph Lauren, where silver coral pendants, as well as geometric stones, hung from none other than lengths of black cord. The trend was also spotted on the streets, with show-goers wearing statement necklaces to jazz up their button-down shirts or long-sleeved white T-shirts.

Just recently, Michelle Williams has something to say about the statement necklace’s relegation. At the screening of Hamilton, the actor turned up on the step-and-repeat wearing a polka dot, off-the-shoulder gown by Dima Ayad. It was the shell around her neck that really turned heads, however. The Juju Vera necklace, which is handcrafted with five teardrop pendants hanging from its sterling silver shell, is definitely a showpiece worthy of the red carpet, but, crucially, could also be used to elevate the simplest of everyday outfits (it also cropped up in New York).

This got me thinking about how, actually, statement necklaces have slowly been plotting a return. At Copenhagen Fashion Week, again, it was statement pendants that made their presence felt as opposed to “power necklaces” that cluster at the neck. Several influencers made a softly tasselled style their outfit’s finishing touch. The overall effect was high-brow, artistic even.

The key to making it look modern is seeking out interesting pendants that, yes, make a statement but also look intriguing around the neck. Influencer Brittany Bathgate is a fan of Lemaire’s Castanet, the brand’s sold-out necklace that is essentially a musical instrument attached to a fine length of cord. The French designer is master of the statement necklace so you can also find pendants that also function as personal brushes so that - bonus! - you never have to worry about dust on your iPhone’s camera again.

On the high street, you’ll find enticing options at Arket, Massimo Dutti and Bimba Y Lola, whose statement necklace features a cord with a giant bubble-letter initial in matte gold.

Remember, this is the kind of necklace that’s meant to do all the hard work for you so give your outfit the day off and let it shine.

The problem with taking inspiration from tastemakers at New York Fashion Week? Their outfits are usually top-to-toe designer. Except this season, COS took a guest-star slot on the calendar, which meant a slew of high street looks on the sidewalks that you can shop right now.

The collection was typically COS, an elevated take on the brand’s well-crafted building blocks, with plenty of delicious coats, tailoring and knitwear, much of which is available on its website for immediate purchase. The headline piece on the streets outside, as well as the catwalk inside, however, was a checked skirt that was spotted not once, not twice but three times on street-stylers.

Printed with this season’s hit checks, as well as draped into elegant folds, the skirt in question is something of a multitasker, providing either a talking-point bottom half to a lo-fi jacket or an exuberant partner for something equally statement. Tamu McPherson took the second approach, pairing the skirt with a checked shirt, which has also proved to be a key staple in New York, with street-stylers wrapping it around their waists or pairing with jeans, flats and a beaded necklace. Marilyn Nwawulor-Kazemaks, meanwhile, took a minimal approach, wearing the skirt with a shirt, a rectangular clutch and sleek leather sandals.

On the catwalk itself, the skirt was teamed with top-to-toe checks (aside from a pair of knee-high black leather boots), with a graphic-line polo neck plus a clutch bag. Like McPherson, this wasn’t overkill but rather a lesson in why plaid is having something of a renaissance this Autumn. It’s a heritage print that nevertheless looks modern, nay, cool, especially with the addition of something unexpected like a crystal necklace or a mesh ballet flat.

COS’s skirt, of course, does all the hard work for you. Pair it with a black cashmere jumper, a denim jacket, flats, heels, trainers, you name it. Just don't be surprised if you're not the only one wearing it.

The COS Checked Skirt

Yes, yes, yes, any avid fashion fan will be more than familiar with the game of creative director musical chairs playing out across luxury houses this year (Chanel, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, here’s looking at you). But it seems one label has been keeping a secret, and it’s become the talk of New York Fashion Week. Rachel Scott, now officially the creative director of Proenza Schouler—an appointment only announced on the 2nd September—has just unveiled her debut collection for the brand. That’s right, just (checks date for the third time) eight days after the announcement of her new role.

Of course, Scott is one of the most admired designers of the moment—her own label, Diotima, was my personal standout at last season’s NYFW (if it’s not yet on your radar, take this as your sign). But even she couldn’t pull together a collection in little over a week. The rumour mill suggests that Scott had in fact joined the house months earlier as a consultant, quietly collaborating with the in-house Proenza Schouler Studio on the Spring/Summer 26 line-up. And it’s one worth bookmarking, with styling ideas ready to weave into your wardrobe right now.

A Touch of Red

First up? The vibrant red that threaded through nearly a third of the collection. Appearing on bags, shoes, jumpers, dresses and shorts, the shade was a standout. And with the resurgence of red in recent months (hello, scarlet tights), it also happens to be one of the easiest trends to embrace.

Personally, I’ll be dusting off my red Mary Janes and styling them with everything from jeans to clashing yellow pieces—a look lifted straight from this catwalk.

A Midi SKirt + Top + Statment Shoe

Then there’s the simple yet endlessly chic outfit formula we can all adopt immediately: a midi skirt, top and statement shoe. Think a vibrant jumper (red, naturally) with coordinating heels, a crisp white tank and knee-high boots for a casual edge, or a blazer to sharpen the silhouette.

Scott and the Proenza Schouler team proved there’s no shortage of ways to reimagine the classic skirt, providing ample inspiration to leave our trusty jeans on the shelf.

Undone Tailoring

Speaking of wardrobe staples, the collection also made a strong case for the blazer. Shown in classic black, cream and grey colourways, and styled over midi skirts and maxi dresses, it cemented its place as a piece that works far beyond the office.

And yet, for all its polish, there was an intentional looseness to the tailoring. A symbol of the act of evolution and a willingness to be unmade in order to change, explains the show notes. Shoulder pads were exposed, raw edges unfinished, threads left to unravel—all signalling the creative shift now underway at the house. Come February, when Scott fully takes the reins, this evolution will undoubtedly continue. For now, though, she and the Studio team have left us with plenty of inspiration to take notes from.

If you work in the fashion industry, chances are that you have been breathing a sigh of relief, as the AW25 season has just wrapped. Across the weeks, there were a dizzying array of sartorial looks, and crucially, for my purposes, some truly excellent beauty across hair, make-up and nails.

I have spent the last month running around backstage, and then glued to my laptop, to bring Marie Claire UK readers the most defining looks straight from the Autumn/Winter 2025 runways. There was our detailed beauty report from London Fashion Week, as well as the best street-style looks across our hometown, and Paris, Milan and New York.

And now, it's over... Well, kind of. While we're only now entering into the warmer season, the trendiest amongst us are already thinking about what's to come. Below are the very best autumn/winter 2025 fashion month beauty looks that you'll be seeing everywhere, soon.

Paris

Chanel

Smoked-out, grungy eyes were the name of the game at Chanel—looks like an indie sleaze revival might just get off the ground this year.

Christian Dior

Bushy brows, clear skin and balmy lips were all over Dior. It's pared back, minimalist, and was a look that was seen all over the runways this season.

Miu Miu

Updos have been everywhere of late; from Margaret Qualley's Oscars hair to the street-style looks I spotted across the globe. I am particularly partial to Miu Miu's take though; it is undone, lived-in and just feels effortless, and not too staid.

Valentino

This season, I have waxed lyrical about the return of tonal make-up. I did not, however, expect to see it in Alessandro Michele's sophomore debut for Valentino, but it worked perfectly to balance his avant-garde stylings.

Acne

At Acne, hair lead Anthony Turner used Schwarzkopf to create striking hair looks that captured “the essence of modern duality”. There was a contrast between the masculine and feminine elements, with the top being sleek and structured, “a handsome boyish” look, while the back was soft, long and natural.

Louis Vuitton

At Louis Vuitton, the lips did the talking. This statement vampy red is something that I can't wait to recreate once the seasons change.

Loewe

At Balenciaga, hair was super long, and natural. With a messy middle part, it looks like the model had gently curled her hair the night before, and let it come undone.

Issey Miyake

Anthony Turner also did the hair at Issey Miyake, using Schwarzkopf. This time around, the hair was firmly transitional. He said: “[It’s about] the in-between phase where hair is neither one thing nor the other. It’s about the journey, creating two looks in one: dry moving into wet or wet into dry. This duality brings an unexpected edge, making the hair feel fluid and transformative.”

Chloé

At Chloé, the hair was effortlessly undone and chic, thanks to Gary Gill, who used Authentic Beauty Concept. He said: "The idea is a confident girl who gets up, leaves the house, and doesn’t mind if she sleeps on her hair—it’s all about a real, nice, gentle, and easy feel."

Hermès

At Hermès, hair was short and slicked. I've said it time and time again that this is the year of the bob, and I love this take—it oozes professionalism, with a bit of 80's prep to freshen it up.

Milan

Fendi

Workplace professionalism is always a theme when it comes to the autumn/winter season, but Fendi's take on it felt distinctly editorial with the addition of a sweeping side-part.

Prada

Prada has long been the queen of the bedhead, and this season's show was no different. Models wore their hair slightly unruly, embracing natural texture and frizz. I'm so here for it.

Versace

Bold, glossy, lips were the statement at Versace this season. The colour skewed towards a darker, vampy burgundy, and it was finished off with a thick clear gloss.

Gucci

Soft, blurred skin that looked velvety in texture was all over the runway for Gucci. While we're not seeing a return to all out highlighter, portions of models' faces were gently illuminated, as if they were lit from within.

Giorgio Armani

This subtle, yet effective, graphic eyeliner look at Giorgio Armani waves the green flag to experiment with make-up this upcoming season.

Roberto Cavalli

Almost skin-coloured, barely-there brows were spotted at Roberto Cavalli.

Max Mara

I am obsessed with these undone, tousled waves at Max Mara. They're perfectly coifed but refreshingly messy, and non-precise.

Sportmax

Bare-faced make-up was given editorial update at Sportmax. Here, the focus was on accentuating the features gently, without any one thing drawing the eye to it. It's about the face as a whole, rather than the classic emphasis on the eye or the lip.

Missoni

At Missoni, the long, over-grown fringes were absolutely stellar, and incited a collective exhalation from people like me, who have high maintenance bangs. Here, they were almost wispy at the front, and looked lightweight.

London

Harris Reed

At Harris Reed, it's always about the lashes. Models wore inches-long sculptural lashes in shades of cobalt blue, black and metallic gold. The designer collaborated with Charlotte Tilbury once more on the make-up front. The brand's Global Artistry Director, Sofia Tilbury, kept complexions neutral and glowy to prioritise the eyes, using Charlotte Tilbury's limited-edition palette of Beautifying Eye trends in Super Neutral, The Feline Flick eyeliner and lashings of the Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara to dial up the drama.

And then, on top, it was all about glass hair. Using Dyson, lead hairstylist Ali Pirzadeh drew inspiration from the clothing's sharp lines and cage-like shapes to create sculptural barnets. Key looks saw the hair pushed away from the face, and lifted in the temples, in the guise of a highly-glossed ponytail and modelled bun.

Burberry

Tonal make-up was across several runways this season, but Burberry's take—with soft pops of peach, ochre, coral and terracotta. It's a subtle, but very wearable, injection of colour for the autumn/winter 2025 season.

SS Daley

At SS Daley, Anna Cofone, Global Creative Advocate for Authentic Beauty Concept created hair looks that were tousled, yet controlled. Backstage, Cofone told Marie Claire UK that she drew on the interplay between masculine and feminine to create looks that were incredibly precise; replete with elegant coifs that swept the hair off the face. If you looked closely, not a hair was out of place, but it still looked effortlessly undone.

Richard Quinn

At Richard Quinn, Terry Barber, Global Creative Director of Artistry at M.A.C, referenced "IT girls" from the 60s, including Julie Christie, Jean Shrimpton and Dianna Ross. There was a swipe of blue eyeshadow across the eyelids, a nude lip and opalescent highlights—the latter of which Barber said will be returning this year.

Dreaming Eli

At Dreaming Eli, M.A.C's Senior Artist Carly Utting said backstage: "It's not an Instagram-perfect look, it's like you've had it on for six hours... It’s like Alexa Chung in the 90’s post-Glastonbury, with a Shirly Manson chunky lash. Thick lashes are definitely having a moment, we’ve seen quite a lot in the past few weeks in New York."

Chet Lo

Cafone also used Authentic Beauty Concept when leading on the hair at Chet Lo. The look revolved around panels of crimped hair, which resembled and reflected the patterns within Lo's clothing.

Annie's Ibiza

This season, Annie's Ibiza was a big nod to Renaissance beauty and youthful romance. Sam McKnight used extensions to achieve long, softly waved and crimped lengths, which were topped with braided updos and dropped plaits. The real stars of the show were the chunky, glossed braids, which McKnight described as "little horns" when I was backstage.

Roksanda

Statement lips came in unconventional colours at Roksanda, like this striking, glossy blackened teal.

Emilia Wickstead

Blurred, satin skin also reigned supreme at Emilia Wickstead. The skin was prepped by EVE LOM's master facialist Jon Rummins, who used the brand’s Radiance Repair Retinol Serum, Daily Rejuvenating Cream and Renewal Treatment Oil for “modern, luminous, fresh skin”.

Simone Rocha

At Simone Rocha, blush was applied onto the cheeks via a thick sweep—the colour was decidedly ruddy and apricot-leaning. It made for a natural flush, as if the models had just been outdoors in the countryside all day.

Erdem

Blurred, soft-focus lips, in gorgeous pink-coral shades, were spotted on the runway at Erdem—it's proof that light, more spring-adjacent colours also work in the cooler months.

New York

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren nailed long, bohemian waves this season.

Carolina Herrera

I can't get enough of this entire Carolina Herrera look; from the stacked bob to the dewy skin, perhaps it's the dark, rosy lip that takes the cake.

Coach

Unfussy, shaggy hair spotted at Coach, screamed "back to school".

Tory Burch

Greige, cool-toned eyeshadow softly washed across the eyelids harked to the 90's revival at Tory Burch.

Christian Cowan

Bright pink accents at Christian Cowan broke up more minimalist beauty looks at NYFW.

Off-white

These balmy, hydrated looking lips added a juicy accent to the face at Off-White.

New York Fashion Week concludes today, and what a week it’s been. With Calvin Klein making its return to the runway after a six-year hiatus, as well as budding new talent Christopher John Rogers who has been missing for the past two, there was a spirit of newness in the air.

Below, I’ll take you through the best shows and stand-out looks from the week.

Khaite

For AW25, Catherine Holstein (founder and creative director of Khaite) was inspired by the late, great filmmaker David Lynch. He passed away last month, and the yellow runway which models strutted down was an homage to his favourite film ‘The Wizard of Oz’. The brand’s signature use of leather ran throughout the collection, sculpting corset tops, boxy jackets and arm-pit length gloves. Naturally, black and slate grey featured heavily, but there were surprise pops of red as well as plenty of leopard and argyle patterns.

Sandy Liang

Cool-girl label Sandy Liang’s AW25 collection was filled with nostalgic references. Ribbon rosettes, furry mini-skirts and doll-size miniature garments featured throughout, in a variety of 90s colours. Metallic mini-skirts were styled with floral long-johns, for a sporty yet child-like aesthetic that was surprisingly wearable. Her signature bow-embellished handbags were worn with matching cross-body straps which, combined with fleeces and sequin skirts, created the impression of a woman who is on her way to a party but doesn’t want to compromise on practicality. Hard relate.

Calvin Klein

On Friday 7th February, Calvin Klein Collection made its return to the runway under the direction of newly appointed Veronica Leoni. The Italian designer’s creative director role was announced last May, and although she is relatively unknown, her CV includes the likes of

Jil Sander, Phoebe Philo’s Céline and The Row. Given her past experience, and the six-year absence of the brand from the NYFW schedule, it’s safe to say the expectations were high. The 82-year-old designer himself was in attendance, alongside supermodels and former faces of the brand Kate Moss and Christy Turlington. In a meeting of old and new worlds, Kendall Jenner walked the runway in an ankle-length grey blazer coat, with round silver glasses and chocolate brown ballet flats.

Luar

Last night, Luar showcased its AW25 collection entitled ‘Pato’. Translating to ‘duck’ in Spanish, feathers were used throughout on headdresses, pinned to blazers or even as nail extensions. However, the word has a double meaning — in some parts of Latin America (Raul Lopez, the brand’s founder, descends from the Dominican Republic) it’s a homophobic slur. The show was a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community in a time and a country where their rights are constantly under threat.

Anna Sui

Anna Sui is a veteran of New York Fashion Week — she launched her first collection in 1981. Her unique brand of eccentricity was out in full force for AW25. Tartans clashed with leopard print, zig-zag knits with florals, all completed with lashings of fur for a look that was vintage inspired yet totally chic. Purples and burgundys also featured heavily throughout the collection, along with plenty of beaded jewellery, providing a perfect anthesis to the minimalism so often associated with American fashion.

Collina Strada

Collina Strada’s shows are always one of the most inclusive on the NYFW schedule. In an era where we are seeing a major rollback in body diversity, the brand’s shows consistently showcase a range of ages, sizes and abilities. For AW25, a majority of the cast wore super-size, bug-eye sunglasses with voluminous ruffled dresses, sheer floral printed capes and embellished oversized hoodies. Graphic T-shirts boasted slogans such as “Girl dinner” and “Ladies night” highlighting that founder Hillary Taymour is hyper-aware of her Gen-Z audience, and always able to deliver on a viral moment they so desperately crave.

Coach

Coach was another brand tapping into youth culture for AW25. Soft plushie toys dangled from bags and were attached to shoes, proving that the craze for charms and customisation won’t be slowing down for the foreseeable future. Models wore ultra-wide baggy trousers, with tightly fitted jackets and T-shirts, displaying midriffs and long trailing belts. Coloured square-frame glasses and sunglasses gave the overall aesthetic a 90s vibe, accentuated by sheer dresses being styled over frayed, light-wash jeans.

Christopher John Rogers

Closing out the first day of NYFW on Friday 6th February, Christopher John Rogers’ show was a masterclass in colour-play. Canary yellow collided with burgundy, rust and pink, before adding splashes of olive green and turquoise. Stripes, asymmetric buttons and chunky fringing all featured throughout the collection, creating a sort of maximalist holiday-ready wardrobe. The designer has achieved a lot in his mere 30-years, including winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Prize in 2019, and his return to the NYFW schedule after a two-year hiatus was a welcome breath of fresh air.

With the latest edition New York Fashion Week officially upon us—this season, running from September 11th to 16th—all eyes are on the catwalks for the trends that we'll be wearing come Spring/Summer 2026 (and if you want to know all about what to wear now, make sure to check out our Autumn/Winter 2025 trend report).

But another great source of sartorial inspiration can be found a tiny bit further afield... On the streets, to be precise.

As usual, celebrities, editors, models, influencers and all manner of industry insiders have descended on the Big Apple this week to attend the Spring/Summer 2026 shows, and naturally, they've brought out their finest looks for the occasion. The best part? They're wearing pieces and trends that you can actually shop and copy immediately—and trust me: you'll definitely want to.

From casual preppy looks, double denim, statement skirts and monochrome combinations aplenty, to elegant ensembles that nail the polished aesthetic that New York women are best-known for, these are all of the best street style looks we've spotted between the shows so far.

New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring/Summer 2026: The Best Looks So Far

The ever-stylish Grece Ghanem proves that pink and red can and do go together.

This slouchy tailored suit in pale dove-grey works particularly well for this between-seasons period—and is a great way to show off any remnants of a summer tan.

A white t-shirt tucked into a leather midi skirt makes for a chic take on workwear—not forgetting the light knit tied around the shoulders in case of a chill.

You can't go wrong with a matching silk set, especially when layered with a green sequinned skirt over the top.

A smart, long black coat is an outfit in itself, as shown by this stylish show-goer.

Army-print cargo trousers get the fashion treatment courtesy of a fitted suede shirt-jacket, unbottoned from the base to show a flash of skin.

Bubble skirts aren't just for summer—just pair with a light jacket and pumps for a breezy between-seasons look.

Zara's lace-trim slip dresses have been everywhere this month, including on the Fashion Week front row. I love how this black and white design is styled simply but effectively here, with a pair of Tabis and a mini Balenciaga bag.

This shows the power of a good belt to elevate an outfit, here transforming an autumnal blazer and shirt combo from office-appropriate to Fashion Week-worthy.

A Canadian tuxedo will always be a classic, elevated here by way of pointy heeled boots, a black leather bag and the season's trending oversize aviator sunglasses.

The perfect example of how sultry structured tailoring can really be—though the smart black shoes help tone it down a little.

A failsafe outfit formula to commit to memory: statement skirt plus white t-shirt and simple suede jacket equals effortless New York chic.

A longline suede jacket is the autumn 2025 version of the "one and done coat", capable of turning even a classic t-shirt and jeans combo into a standout look.

It's the burgundy balloon-arm jacket that really transforms this outfit from a simple skirt and top situation. Chic.

Few do print clashing better than Tamu McPherson, who has expertly combined a checked shirt and skirt with the unexpected pop of leopard-print.

Two excellent examples of how stylish monochrome dressing can be.

Shailene Woodley's zebra print skirt is a serious statement in itself, and only made all the cooler by being paired with a dark denim shirt.

Dark-wash straight-leg jeans and a white shirt are a classic pairing, but a gold charm-adorned chain belt and bow scarf detail take this ensemble to the next level.

Metallic heels and an embroidered midi skirt could be considered a strictly evening combination, but this show-goer tones them down expertly with a white t-shirt and distressed leather bomber jacket.

Brown knee-high leather boots and a floaty pink nightdress are all you need to nail the boho aesthetic.

I love this feminine take on double denim, especially paired with a red bag and leopard mules to add a pop of colour and pattern.

Head-to-toe black is a Fashion Week go-to for a reason, though the suede pumps add a new season twist.

Take this as your sign to add an oversize pinstripe suit to your capsule wardrobe, stat. Come colder weather, just swap the sandals for boots.

The ultimate in high-low dressing: a statement midi skirt and heels topped with a windbreaker. Practical and cool.

When you have a bedazzled skirt set at your disposal, you don't need much else (but an Alaïa Le Teckel bag is always a good idea).

Olivia Palermo serves a classic monochrome moment, while the low waist adds an unexpected twist.

These rich autumnal shades go gloriously together, making this show-goer's bright blonde hair pop all the more.

It's not quite faux-fur jacket season yet, but Amelia Gray has worked around it by wearing just a black baby tee and jeans underneath. The pink Miu Miu bag is quite the statement accessory, too.

Thought lacy slip skirts were out with the end of summer? This outfit proves they don't have to be. Simply pair with tights and boots to make them ocld-weather-ready.

The skirt over trousers trend isn't going anywhere, and this Fashion Week guest shows how to do it in a subtle, pared-back way.

The epitome of polished New York elegance, letting a statement(ish) skirt take centre-stage.

Instagram's Eva Chen continues to be queen of laid-back cool, here pairing a fringed black midi skirt with a plain white shirt and mesh pumps.

A lesson in styling capri pants for the colder months: just add chic ballet flats and a cool sports jacket. Done!

From Rihanna arriving at Alaïa with a crystal cape slung around her shoulders (and a cool 40 minutes late proving that it really is fashionable to turn up late - a school of thought many celebs adopted this season) to Tracee Ellis Ross wearing *those* feathery Ferragamo pumps, New York Fashion Week has kicked off fashion month with aplomb.

Millennials the world over (or maybe it was just me) were warmed by the sight of The Hills co-stars Olivia Palermo and Whitney Port embracing outside the Jonathan Simkhai show at The Edge at Hudson Yards, while Suki Waterhouse looked ethereal in a fuzzy Mongolian fur coat worn over a sheer lace dress.

The official fashion month calendar starts in New York City, with established and new design talent promising to get us excited about Spring/Summer 2025 fashion – even though we may have put our summer dresses in storage for another nine months.

This season, we bear witness to some of the American fashion greats doing what they do best – see Michael Kors, Tory Burch and 3.1 Phillip Lim (a label celebrating its 20th anniversary), while the likes of Sandy Liang and Toteme continue to establish themselves as the new names to invest in.

No need to watch every single runway show on repeat – we've done the hard work for you and boiled everything down to the need-to-knows, below.

ALAÏA

Dynamic simplicity are the words that best describe Pieter Mulier's latest offering at Alaïa. The 'Winter-Spring' 2025 show was the first of its kind to take place in the rotunda of the Guggenheim Museum, a New York institution – apt, considering the collection was inspired by the city's fashion legacy (Mulier namechecked Halston and Charles James in the show notes) and American beauty in general.

In the fuss-free and geometric (but meticulously sculpted) silhouettes – rendered in double-face cashmere, poplin and silk taffeta – there was a sense of American sportswear. A more democratic take on couture, if you will – not least because the house extended show invites to students from three American fashion schools, FIT, Parsons and Pratt. Very cool.

COACH

Cover your favourite bag in cute stickers – one of the takeaways from Coach's Spring/Summer show. Speaking of the bags, they were a highlight, from cushioned clutches supersized to cartoonish proportions to ladylike, 50s-tinged styles decorated with biro-scrawled scribbles.

Vintage Coach bags are hot property on eBay, Vinted et al, and the house is capitalising on this with their (Re)Loved programme, which breathes new life into heritage pieces – here, they took that one step further by patchworking skater pants using pre-loved chinos and jeans and tailoring shrunken jackets from repurposed fabric. The uniform was unequivocally New York – the 'I love NY' tee is firmly on my next-season wish list.

CAROLINA HERRERA

For Carolina Herrera's Spring/Summer show, Creative Director Wes Gordon delivered graphic glamour via precision-cut tailoring and nipped-waist gowns in a tightly edited palette of four bold hues, including (of course) iconic Herrera red – and a whole lotta monochrome.

There were polka dots galore, splashed across blouson-sleeved tops and incorporated into lace dresses. The corsage continues to reign supreme, appearing upon (or even eclipsing) bodices of fit-and-flare dresses. This is a collection that celebrating hyper femininity and feminine power.

TORY BURCH

'The collection began with the essence of sport,' said Tory Burch. 'Power and grace, precision and freedom.' Burch reinterpreted motifs of American sportswear, from jersey-esque, colour-blocked sweaters to the styling of cascading chiffon skirts with simple cotton V-necks. Quilted cotton and waffle knits juxtaposed hand-twisted sequins and crystal beading, making for a beautiful yet wonderfully wearable wardrobe.

Notably, nearly every shoe started with a ballet slipper construction and indeed, Burch's iconic Reva flat was present – with new iterations including a mule silhouette.

ULLA JOHNSON

You may recognise Ulla Johnson's trio of new-season prints – they come from three paintings by the late American painter, Lee Krasner. There were hyper-feminine elements, but rendered in a way that felt refreshingly utilitarian. For example, a pussybow blouse appeared in camo tones alongside a skirt embellished with both sequins and utility pockets. There are also so many pieces perfect for parties, in particular a flapper-style dress laden with golden, lash-like fringing.

3.1 PHILLIP LIM

In this economy, it's no mean feat to maintain a successful brand, especially for two decades – but Phillip Lim and Wen Zhou have done just that with 3.1 Phillip Lim. The label is in its 20th year and celebrated with a joy-filled show. A lace tunic top was paired with camo-pocket trousers, while a utility jacket came underpinned by a satin mini skirt. There was denim, there were pinstripes, and boy, was there was rhinestone fringing. This is a uniform for the New York woman – girlish, but with a general helping of grit.

Last season was all about the Bottega Veneta drop earrings, with the most stylish guests in New York, London, Milan and Paris plumping for the designer jewellery, causing it not only to sell out, but to be copied galore by other retailers.

Whilst fashion month has only just begun (see my round-up of New York Fashion AW24 shows here), I'm already seeing some clear trends emerge from showgoers.

One accessory in particular came up during my endless scrawling of street style shots: the logo belt.

The trend, of course, is nothing new. Alessandro Michele's iconic GG belt for his first collection for Gucci in 2015 started it all. But where before they might've appeared a little, ahem, garish, recently, thanks to the quiet luxury trend, they've been toned down a touch, becoming the chic designer nod to elevate any outfit.

Everyone knows a good coat is all you need to attend the shows in winter, and a designer logo belt is the ideal way to make your look work that little bit harder, adding that little bit of pzazz while cinching your outerwear to create a new silhouette.

Other stylish guests opted to wear theirs with tailored trousers or pleated skirts, highlighting the belt's original practical use.

Following on from the success of the Gucci belt, many designers have hopped on the logo bandwagon so you're spoiled for choice. With the headline-grabbing Superbowl and Travis and Taylor's matching outfits, you'd be forgiven for not noticing that New York Fashion Week was in full swing. So allow me to give you the highlights from the gorgeous Autumn/Winter 2024 collections. 

Tommy Hifliger

Tommy Hilfiger transformed the iconic Oyster Bar at Grand Central Station in New York with his signature red, white and blue colours, to showcase a collection that was a love letter to New York.

Think an casual American sportswear twist on 90s preppy classics such as blazers, chinos and varsity jackets, as well as camel coats, tweeds and polo dresses. 

Carolina Herrera

Creative Director Wes Gordon paid tribute to the beautiful and strong women in his life with this collection, as equally strong and beautiful. Architectural shapes, bold colour-blocking and clean lines were the ordre of the day, with a smattering of embellishment and florals for good measure.  

Khaite

Catherine Holstein of Khaite was inspired by heritage and memory for her latest collection, 'who we were, are and become' according to the show notes. Silhouettes were reworked with Holstein's avant-garde twist - the boxy cropped leather jacket was a highlight, and fabrics took centre stage, draping themselves around the bodies of the models ('the dilapidation of a fallen drape' was an inspiration throughout).

Proenza Schouler

At Proenza Schouler, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez showed us that quiet luxury isn't going anywhere, with a collection that promises to be the foundation of every chic woman's wardrobe for decades to come. There were draped dresses, tailored coats and suits and elegant knitwear in muted shades of grey, white and black, interspersed with touches of peach and red here and there. 

Tory Burch

Tory Burch played with volume, proportions and fabrics with a collection that was as fun as it was beautiful. Boxy skirts and tailored blazers contrasted with frothy and feminine dresses, and more casual pieces like hoodies clashed wonderfully with ruffles and feathers.

The fashion capitals of the world are gearing up for a month of sartorial extravaganza, with New York Fashion Week kicking things off in style. 

Designers including Tory Burch, Proenza Schouler, Christian Siriano and Prabal Gurung are dictating the trends we will be wearing come spring/summer 24, and we're excited already. 

Here are the standout collections so far.

Carolina Herrera SS24

Creative Director Wes Gordon looked to late style icon Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy for inspiration for his spring/summer collection. Clean lines, tailored separates and a softer colour palette were evocative of the late 90s, yet still featured the label's flourishes such as floral prints, sequins and tulle.

Michael Kors SS24

Blake Lively led the star-studded front row at Michael Kors, alongside the likes of Rita Ora, Halle Berry and Olivia Wilde. The actor and entrepreneur opted for a gold jumpsuit which set the tone for the show, inspired by the freedom of the 70s. This translated into ethereal lace maxi dresses, boldly printed skirt suits and sequin minis.  

Prabal Gurung SS24

Prabal Gurung presented a 'West meets East' collection inspired by a recent journey to see his family in India. While Prabal is known for his colourful eveningwear, this collection was far more muted and focused on everyday pieces, based on traditional Indian and Nepali garments. 

Christian Siriano SS24

For his 15th anniversary show, Christian Siriano went all out, enlisting the help of Sia (in an all pink tulle gown complete with signature pink bow) to serenade the runway. Celebrity pals including Alicia Silverstone, Janet Jackson, Laura Linney and Avril Lavigne came to watch the designer's SS24 collection, inspired by his love of ballet. This was evident in the plethora of tutus, corsets and bows, inspired by the opulent costumes seen on stage.

New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2023 has drawn to a close and over the last week, we have seen the best and brightest in American fashion put on a show on the global stage. Between press, buyers, influencers and industry insiders, there is no denying that fashion week attendees are certainly a chic bunch. And while NYFW is predominantly about the clothes on the runway, we couldn't help but notice what people were wearing off the runway, too.

There is a reason why street style has become such a huge part of fashion week, as often attendees can elicit just as much outfit inspiration as the models on the catwalk. 

This season at NYFW, we saw one trend seriously dominate amongst the street style set and that was the rise of tonal dressing. From fashion editors to celebrities and content creators, so many show-goers embraced tonal looks, opting to wear one colour head-to-toe. Whether it was a complete block colour look or different hues of the same shade, tonal dressing certainly became the go-to look for attendees outside the shows.

Hannah Bronfman paired a red knitted dress alongside a red coat and red shoes at the Michael Kors show, while Emili Sindlev opted for a vibrant pink mini dress styled alongside a pink knitted jumper. Other street stylers were spotted in top-to-toe looks in shades of yellow, green, beige and more.

Not to mention, Queen Letizia and Kendall Jenner have also both experimented with the tonal dressing trend in recent weeks.  

Yes, tonal dressing is undeniably having a moment, and it's easy to understand why. Not only does it look incredibly chic, but tonal looks also work to elongate the body, giving the illusion of height.

And just like that, we are already one-quarter of the way through the marathon that is fashion month.

Over the last week, top American designers showcased their Autumn/Winter 2023 collections to an audience of editors, buyers and industry insiders at New York Fashion Week. This season, we witnessed a return to the classics. Designers debuted impeccably cut coats, blazers and tailored separates, proving that you do not need shock factor to create standout runway moments. 

In terms of trends, we saw the return of several noughties favourites including peplum tops and one-shoulder silhouettes. Brown leather also entered the chat, overshadowing the fabric's usual shade, while shearling made more than a few appearances. The prominence of rosettes shows no sign of slowing down, and draped dresses found their way into the spotlight.

New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2023 trends

1. Peplum Tops

The noughties called and they want their peplum tops back. Indeed, the trend we all invested in over a decade ago is back, but rest assured for 2023, it is chicer than ever. Tops with cinched waists and fluted hems appeared on the runway at Brandon Maxwell, Tory Burch and Adeam, creating exaggerated silhouettes. My top tip? When wearing a peplum top, opt for a slimmer skirt or pair of tailored trousers to balance out the proportions. 

2. Brown Leather

Leather is a fabric we see on the Autumn/Winter runways every season, but this year it seems designers are swapping out traditional black for standout shades of deep burgundy and brown. We saw brown leather dresses make their way down the runway at Gabriela Hearst and Brandon Maxwell, while Ulla Johnson and Coach leant into leather separates. Proenza Schouler also debuted chocolate brown leather trousers and a midi skirt in the same shade. 

3. Rosettes

Rosettes and 3-D flowers were a major trend on the Spring/Summer 2023 runways last season, and evidently, its popularity shows no sign of slowing down. Designers from Carolina Herrera to Christian Siriano, Hellessy, Coach and Sandy Liang all opted for the embellishment, using 3-D florals across dresses, blazers and trousers. 

4. Draped Dresses

Women who appreciate all things comfort, rejoice! Fluid, draped dresses were all over the runways in New York. From Jonathan Simhai to Jason Wu, brands embraced a gathered, almost Grecian aesthetic, creating unique silhouettes with plenty of personality. 

5. Shearling

The Autumn/Winter runways are a time when cosiness reigns supreme and no fabric embodies this more perfectly than shearling. At Khaite and Michael Kors, fluffy white maxi coats made their way down the runway, while at Proenza Schouler, Brandon Maxwell and Coach shearling-lined jackets were the order of the day. 

Khaite in particular really leaned into the aesthetic. The brand displayed a pair of white fur trousers on the runway and even created a strappy, v-neck camisole made from leather and shearling fabrics. Hygge is here to stay in 2023. 

6. One-Shoulder Silhouettes

This winter, fashion is giving us the cold shoulder (quite literally) as brands embraced one-shoulder silhouettes on the NYFW runways. Coach, Simkhai, Michael Kors and more opted for the asymmetrical shape when creating dresses and tops. Gabriela Hearst, Coach and Simkhai offered dressier takes on the look, while Michael Kors debuted a one-shoulder knit dress that could be worn for more casual occasions.

New York Fashion Week is back, and with lockdown as a thing of the past, this season the city has bucked digital presentations in favour of IRL events. NYC has been abuzz with editors, influencers and buyers, all eager to see what designers have envisioned for Spring/Summer 2023.

As far as trends are concerned, it seems that brands are continuing to turn to the noughties for inspiration. The popularity of low-waist silhouettes shows no sign of slowing down, while bubble skirts—the look seen all over It-girls on red carpets in 2006—have made a surprising resurgence. Favoured by the likes of Lauren Conrad and Paris Hilton over 15 years ago, the statement skirt is back in a big way, and this time it's had a makeover.

Elsewhere, we've seen fringing given an evening update for 2023. The often casual embellishment now comes in crystal and beaded iterations, adorning the hemline of gowns and midi dresses. Designers evidently have celebrations on their minds, with party-ready dresses and separate appearing across several catwalks. For S/S23, it's all about sequins, crystals and all that glitters.

The top trends from New York Fashion Week:

1. Bubble skirts are back

Cast your mind back to the mid-noughties. It was a time when MySpace reigned supreme, The OC and Misha Barton were all over our TVs, and bubble skirts were the look du jour. While we might be leaving MySpace in the past, for Spring/Summer 2023, the voluminous, puff-ball skirts of yore are in the midst of a revival.

Seen on the runway at Khaite, Proenza Schouler, Ulla Johnson and more, the bubble skirts of 2023 have been reimagined with low-waist silhouettes but still feel like a complete throwback. My teenage self can't take it.

2. Not your average wallflower

Each year during the spring/summer runway shows, we see the return of floral prints. And to quote on very famous fashion figure, the trend is less than... groundbreaking. However, for 2023, designers are taking florals one step further by swapping 2D prints for 3D floral designs and appliques. From Carolina Herrera to Prabal Gurung, Patbo to Lela Rose, designers have created sculptural flowers this season, adding them to skirts, tops, blazers and even swimwear.

3. Fringe benefits

Shedding its wild west connotations, this season fringe is back again and now it's chicer than ever. By way of Jonathan Simkhai, Michael Kors and Proenza Schouler, this season fringe trims have been added to formal wear and created with crystal embellishments and beading. It's a decidedly dressy take on the trend.

4. How low can you go

Low-waist silhouettes have been making a comeback for a few reasons now. We've seen the return of low-rise jeans and cargo trousers. For the Spring season, designers are reimaging the look across very, very low-waisted maxi skirts and tailored trousers. Peter Do and Tibi sent models down the runway in white, low-slung maxis, while LaQuan Smith opted for hip-skimming trousers in bold shades of pink, green and yellow.

5. All that glitters

With lockdowns now over, designers are clearly in the mood to have a good time. Party-ready pieces have been seen all over the runway with sequins, crystal and glitter embellishments making their mark at Brandon Maxwell, Tom Ford and Michael Kors. Tom Ford's collection in particular had a retro feel with Studio 54-esque metallic ensembles and voluminous curly hairstyles to match.

It's safe to say this season fashion month will be very different, with designers having to adapt to a new season post pandemic. Big names such as Saint Laurent and Gucci have stepped down from the schedule this season, to take stock and create slower collections to meet the needs of their customers. Meanwile, Burberry has announced a different format for its show, which will likely be a mix of a physical and digital experience.

That said, fashion week will be going ahead in all the major cities, with designers getting extra creative with both actual catwalk shows and virtual presentations. Here's everything we know about New York Fashion Week so far...

New York Fashion Week 2020 Dates

The Spring/Summer 2021 New York Fashion Week 2020 will take place between Sunday 13th to Wednesday 16th September 2020, and will be followed by London Fashion Week. IMG, which owns and produces NYFW, has announced that it will 'curate and host culturally-enriching conversations beyond the shows at Fashion Week, transitioning this season’s events to the digital realm.'

New York Fashion Week 2020 Tickets

As many shows will be online this season, the good news is that pretty much everyone will be able to access them online, both on the official fashion week site and on NYFW's social media pages. You might still need to sign up to get tickets though so keep checking.

With the few physical shows likely to have very limited seating due to social distancing rules, you won't be able to attend unless you're a buyer or editor. In usual circumstances, if you're a fashion blogger, videographer or photographer, you can also apply for press accreditation here, though this season this process has been cancelled, with requests going to the designers' PR teams directly.

New York Fashion Week 2020 Calendar

The line-up is a little different this season due to many designers not showing, and the schedule is still tbc, but we do know that the Shows will support designers in both physical and digital capacities, and those designers include Badgley Mischka, Christian Siriano, Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler, Rebecca Minkoff and Vivienne Hu among others.

Gemstones, glitter and glam squads galore

When it comes to beauty, the fashion month catwalks are the place to scoop the biggest make-up and hair trends 2019 will see, so we've hand picked the best of the best from this season's shows.

No make-up make-up is without a doubt one of the trickiest looks to perfect – just ask any make-up artist – but here we're focusing on those that are really creative, eye-catching and 'out there'.

Kicking off a month of fashion, NYFW AW19 has thankfully not disappointed. There's been glitter, graphic liner and gemstones galore, all feeding into the 2019 make-up trends that'll define the year ahead.

The key takeaway trend from the shows this season has been self-expression – being as bold and creative as you like with make-up. (That is, after all, half the fun of it.) Shows have been inspired by the fun and frivolities of stage musicals, iconic TV and film moments and decades gone by.

Proof that the hair bow trend isn't going anywhere any time soon, Oscar de la Renta paired flawless skin with a bold red lip for the AW19 show.

Zimmerman

Classics are classic for a reason, which is probably why Zimmerman opted for a uniform cat-eye flick on all of the models.

Boozy dark red lips ruled the roost at Jonathan Simkhai, paired with fresh and flawless skin and brushed up brows.

There wasn't a defined lip in sight at Rebecca Minkoff, just the slightly blurred suggestion of lipstick that had been smudged on. The addition of fresh and flushed skin made this the perfect winter look.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh

Call your grandma: Blue eyeshadow is back, at least according to Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Piled all the way up to the brow bones, the nineties vibes were real.

Rodarte

Glitter, glitter and more glitter – after last year's floral escapades, this year the theme at Rodarte was all about the sparkles of old Hollywood musicals gone by. Divine.

Brandon Maxwell

Undeniably influenced by Twiggy's signature beauty look, Brandon Maxwell had a real sixties feel thanks to the heavy lashes and liner and pale nude lip.

It's official, New York Fashion Week is going nowhere

There was much murmuring that New York Fashion Week being over, thanks to many designers having already left the Big Apple to show in other cities (Tommy Hilfiger, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler), and others presenting their final collections there this season (Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham).

But there was no denying that for SS18, it was as loud, proud and covered in glitter as ever. Scroll down for the highlights

A tale of swan songs

It was the last NYFW show for Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham and Carolina Herrera, but they weren't going to leave without a big bang.

Alexander is breaking away from the traditional fashion calendar to present his shows in June and December, to combine his pre and main season collections together. For his last show, he went all The Matrix on us, dressing models in long black overcoats, power shoulders and sunglasses.

VB meanwhile is moving her show to London (v. exciting for us), and for her tenth and final year in New York, she celebrated the female silhouette without compromising on the loose tailoring she's come to be known for. The result? Felt coats and suits with oversized belt, and for the first time ever, leopard print. A hint to her Spice Girls comeback perhaps?

As for Carolina Herrera, she just announced she was stepping down as head designer of her fashion house after 37 years, with Wes Gordon stepping in as creative director. As far as last shows go, Herrera took her final bow in style with dresses as dramatic as ever, including multicoloured tulle ballgown and bright red off-the-shoulder numbers.

Spaceships and robots

Perhaps trying to make a point about New York Fashion Week embracing changes, certain designers looked to the future for their collections. There was Alexander Wang and his Neo-style dominatrix coats, Christian Cowan and his neon trench coats, Jeremy Scott and his Judy Jetson skirts.

And then there was Philip Plein. Irina Shayk arrived, or more accurately landed, on the catwalk in a spaceship, before heading down the runway accompanied by a giant robot, Transformers style.

Fashion activism

Last year fashion rebelled against Trump, and this year, in the wake of the #MeToo movement and the 100th Anniversary of the female vote, it supported the Time's Up movement. The new Prabal Gurung collection was inspired by female-dominated societies, and for the finale (watched by the #MeToo founder Tarana Burke), models of all ethnicities walked hand in hand, holding a white flower - while Tom Ford sent a model down the runway carrying a Pussy Power bag, and Zadig & Voltaire stamped pictures of the Women's March on their t-shirts. There was also a Time's Up show, where models shared their experiences of sexual harassment.

Hope on the catwalk

Sunday saw the Cancerland show, where breast cancer survivors of all ages and sizes walk down the runway in lingerie designed by Ana Ono for women who've had reconstructive breast and mastectomy surgery. Their bodies were also illustrated with powerful messages like 'I am whole' and 'I am beauty'.

Orange is the new black

You know what? Grey and black is just not going to cut it for AW18 (although checks are still big news, phew). While last season red and purple were winning, this year marks the arrival of orange. The new Tom Ford, Tibi, R13 and even Oscar de la Renta collections all showcased the bright colour, so watch this space...

This is no filter fashion at its finest

In the UK we haven’t quite awoken to the force that is Cardi B, - just yet – however the twenty five year old rapper is tearing through New York Fashion Week, one snazzy FROW appearance at a time.

The musician’s no filter attitude – which saw her discussing her career as a stripper on social media – flows into her fashion choices too, it seems.

This lady isn’t all style over substance either – her track, Bodak Yellow took the number one spot on the US Billboard 100 chart at the end of last year. The song has also notched up 460 million hits on YouTube and counting. Casual. Her talents have also enticed the likes of Migos, Juicy J and Bruno Mars into collaborating with her.

But why is the fashion world falling in love with the rapper? Firstly there is NOTHING Cardi B can’t pull off as seen on her first FROW outing for Christian Siriano. Green trouser suits usually conjure up thoughts of Kermit The Frog but with a pink fur stole thrown over the shoulder and monochrome cat eye sunglasses the vibe instantly turns from cartoon to chic. But her art of accessorizing doesn’t quite stop there.

The nails are her real art form. Think Tanya Turner on acid, with more jewels emblazoned on her talons than the crown jewels possesses. Her Instagram caption for said outfit? 'Now you can pistol whip me.’ I have no idea what that means either but we are at the front of the queue.

Then came the meme moment of New York Fashion Week so far, when attending Alexander Wang’s boardroom girl gone wild inspired show Cardi B was sat next to Anna Wintour. Wearing a black leather turban, a hybrid mac and over the knee boots (naturally), the style press of Instagram went wild in the rows.

However, Cardi really came into her own at the Jeremy Scott show, wearing an oversized coat that screamed 'fur coat, no knickers', in a new unapologetic statement of girl power.

Turning our attention to her love life, Cardi is engaged to fellow rapper, Migos and don’t be mistaking the rocks she got because JESUS CHRIST THE ENGAGEMENT RING IS HUGE. Cardi isn’t the only one in the relationship polishing her diamonds though. Migos attended the Prabal Gurung show too, wearing a layered diamond necklace to off set his polo neck and camo combo. Rough with the smooth, much?

Couture fashion week had the power to revamp Celine Dion and it seems fashion month is doing the same for Cardi B. Kneel before your new style Queen…

With just one week to go

Georgina Chapman will no longer be showing her fashion brand Marchesa's latest collection at New York Fashion Week. The cancellation comes at last minute as her show was scheduled for 14th February, was cancelled last minute, and there are rumours the designer wasn't ready.

According to the New York Post, an insider told them, 'Georgina couldn’t go through with it, she was too scared. They were gung-ho . . . but as they got closer, she choked.'

It's expected the new collection will be instead be shown in a digital format, with a spokesperson saying, 'Marchesa is looking forward to presenting their Fall ’18 collection in an updated format this season.'

This would've been a comeback of sorts for Georgina Chapman, who hasn't been seen since it was announced she would divorce Harvey Weinstein after he was accused of decades of sexual harassment.

Actresses like Felicity Huffman and Sienna Miller also said Weinstein threatened to sabotage their careers if they didn't to wear his wife's designs on the red carpet.

Georgina said at the time, 'My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.'

Alexander Wang has announced that his brand is leaving the traditional New York Fashion Week schedule after its autumn/winter 2019 show this forthcoming February. Instead, the American designer will present his collections in New York in June and December to align more closely with the pre-collection schedule.

“Our consumer will be better served through the new system,” said Alexander Wang's CEO Lisa Gersh in a press release. “The innovative approach reframes product on the month that it ships, rather than the outdated labels of ‘Resort’ or ‘Pre-Fall,’ giving our customers more relevant and consistent merchandise throughout the year.” Therefore, the collection shown in June will arrive between October and March, while products shown in December will be available between April and September.

"We have been exploring many different approaches to our product launches through collaborations such as Adidas Originals and special capsules to measure customer response," said Wang in the press release notes. "Our shows will reinforce our brand's DNA to our global customers and fans while we continue to be focused in our product offering. This new cadence will allow us to speak to our global customer in different conversations that are not limited to just fashion week twice a year."

Wang’s schedule change is backed by the CFDA, which is said to be exploring the idea of establishing a more concrete fashion show schedule around pre-collections. This would be in addition to the main February and September seasons. “I could see it happening this summer,” Steven Kolb, CFDA president and CEO, told WWD. “I could see a collective of maybe five or so brands that have the right adjacency and might align to it… Alex is one of many designers the CFDA has spoken to about the idea, and we support him in this business decision. There are others who are part of this idea.”

Other U.S. brands to adopt the pre-season-as-main-season model include Rodarte and Proenza Schouler.

It's that time of year again when celebrities and fashion influencers from all over the world flock to New York to get the scoop on next season's trends.

New York Fashion Week 2017 is just the beginning of an amazing month-long fashion celebration that happens just twice a year. Famous faces head for the Big Apple to enjoy the catwalk shows from the likes of Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham, Michael Kors and Tom Ford (to name but a few). It's a very star-studded and exclusive affair. Unless you're a famous fashion blogger, buyer or press, you're probably not going to be getting tickets any time soon. But don't panic, as we're bringing you all the best bits so that you don't miss out completely.

Of course, last season's NYFW FROW wasn't short of celebrities. Kylie Jenner was spotted supporting her older sister Kendall from the front row, while Bella and Gigi enjoyed watching the new collections if they weren't walking.

This season, all of the supermodel squad are out and about again, with the new gen girls like Kaia Gerber, Karlie Kloss and Poppy Delevingne mingling with the iconic Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Brooke Shields - all looking super chic both on and off the catwalk.

Seasoned Fashion Week attendees like Kate Bosworth, Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung have also started landing in New York... Well it wouldn't be a normal fashion month without them now,would it?

If there's one pair of boots you need to buy for the new season, this is it

If you've been paying attention to the street style looks at New York Fashion Week, you can't have escaped the fact EVERYONE is wearing sock boots this season. There’s been a lot of talk this season about the longevity of New York Fashion Week after brands like Rodarte, Altuzarra and Proenza Schouler left the Big Apple to show in Paris. But one thing that always ignites #NYFW pandemonium is Kanye West’s Yeezy fashion shows.

From the secrecy of the presentations to the over-the-top venues, West knows how to build buzz around his new collections. But this year, the rapper and designer made his most shocking move yet: He decided to remove Yeezy Season 6 from the New York Fashion Week calendar.

According to The Business of Fashion, West cancelled Yeezy Season six without providing any context as to why. The news comes after the singer/designer canceled the remaining shows on his Saint Pablo Tour last November.

'He’s just exhausted,' a source told PEOPLE at the time of his tour cancellation. 'He’s been working around the clock on fashion design, both on his own line and the Adidas line. He’s a notorious workaholic, so balancing both that work – which is extremely important to him – and the rigours of the tour every night, it really wore him out.'

But a source close to the star says it wasn’t as dramatic as it sounds.

'There was never a show on the NYFW schedule,' the source says. 'There was basically a hold in the event Kanye opted to show during NYFW. There will be a presentation or showroom for the Season 6 collection, just not during NYFW.'

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that he and wife Kim Kardashian West are expecting baby number three via surrogate, which no doubt is another obligation he needs to focus on.

Details of Yeezy shows are notoriously kept under wraps until the second the models hit the runway. So it would be impossible to predict what West has in mind for this year’s presentation, especially given the very low-key show he presented last season (which contrasted with several very high-key shows in seasons past).

In the past, he’s made guests trek all the way to Roosevelt Island in sweltering weather (to see models pass out on the runway) and he even put on a full-blown concert during Season 3 when he unveiled his new record The Life of Pablo at Madison Square Garden.

This year, it just won’t be the same when an entire day isn’t spent following the cryptic tweets of show-goers trying to decipher what over-the-top surprise he has in store. But knowing West, maybe Paris isn’t off the table.

If you don’t already know Erin and Sara Foster, aka the Foster sisters, then you’re missing out, big time.

Sara Foster is an actress and model you might have spotted in the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot, and her sister Erin is a comedy writer and performer who just nails those one liners.

They’re a bit of Hollywood royalty too, once removed from the Kardashians (their first stepmother is Brody and Brandon Jenner’s mother), and closely linked to Bella and Gigi Hadid (their second stepmother is Yolanda).

More importantly, they’re the creators and co-stars of the hilarious Barely Famous mockumentary, that sheds an interesting light on Hollywood.

Now they’ve taken over New York Fashion Week in their new #PrettyInfluential series with THE OUTNET.COM (scroll down for the latest episode), to show us what it’s really like at the fashion event of the season. Hint: It’s not as glamorous as you might think.

We also chatted to the girls to find out all the NYFW secrets…

What is it really like to attend NYFW?

ERIN: I’ve noticed that people have a better sense of humour about fashion than I expected them to. I’ve been intimidated by people who work in the industry, but now that we are running around poking fun at it, they’re in on the joke more than I thought they would be. I mean, trends are so ridiculous! If you think something looks bad but then someone tells you it’s a trend, you immediately say its chic?!

SARA: Honestly, it's a lot more fun and a lot less intimidating than I was expecting. People are so much friendlier and more welcoming than I was prepared for. I think ‘fashion’ has a reputation for being a bit scary and it couldn't be further from my experience.

What has been your worst fashion mistake at shows?

ERIN: Well, I’ve been to one so far because this is my first fashion week (I try to steer clear of models as a rule). We went in with a camera crew poking fun at ourselves and the people who live to sit front row, and everyone welcomed the joke. It was really fun and I wondered why no one at any point asked if I was walking in the show.

SARA: I didn't prepare for the snow and slush. Being from LA you forget that sometimes you have to ‘dress for weather’. I definitely ruined a few pairs of shoes and long pants on this trip and walked into shows with a red nose and wet, stained clothing and shoes.

And your most amazing fashion moment?

ERIN: The day my fashion became a little more elevated was when I started investing in nice coats. I dress really casually, and when I finally splurged on a Stella McCartney camel coat I suddenly looked so much better at night! Now I probably wear it too much. But it shook things up for me.

SARA: A pair of flared Ellery trousers with tights and Marni sequined shoes that I wore to the Milly show from THE OUTNET.COM.

Tell us something surprising that people don’t know about Fashion Week.

ERIN: Probably that the whole thing is over in 15 minutes. You sit down and before you know it everyone is clapping and walking out. Get in and get out. I respect it.

SARA: Don't organise your day around the schedule. No show starts on time.

Who would be on your ultimate front row?

ERIN: Anna [Wintour] obviously… even though I don’t live or die by fashion, I still want her approval in general. And then maybe a couple of Hemsworth brothers, Charlie Hunnam… basically no other hot girls. The models are enough.

SARA: Larry David, Gisele, Beyoncé, Elizabeth Warren and Ina Garten. Got a little something for everyone with that lineup.

The fashion world finally calls out Trump.

After celebrities like the Stranger Things cast at the 2017 SAG Awards and Stephen Fry at the BAFTAs called out Donald Trump, it was only a matter of time before the fashion world followed suit. And what better time than New York Fashion Week?

Brands like Calvin Klein, Prabal Gurung and LRS Studio used the catwalk as their platform to protest against the US President’s immigration and anti-feminist policies, and it caused quite the stir!

Raf Simons used his first show for Calvin Klein to make a statement, blasting David Bowie’s This is Not America to open and close.

Models at Tommy Hilfiger, including Bella and Gigi Hadid, also wore white bandanas on their wrists, a sign of unity which we will no doubt be spotting at other shows.

Meanwhile, budding Mexico-born designer Raul Solis sent models down his LRS catwalk in white knickers declaring, ‘F**** your wall’ and ‘No ban. No wall!’.

Creatures of comfort had models wearing ‘We are all human beings’ sweatshirts.

In fact, the catwalk was positively bursting with slogan t-shirts. Prabal Gurung’s said ‘Love is the resistance’ and ’The future is female’, and Public School opted for ‘Make America New York.’

Things got political off the runway too, with designers and celebrities alike wearing their beliefs like a badge of honour - quite literally in the case of Diane Von Furstenburg, who donned a neon pink ‘Fashion stands with planned parenthood’ pin.

Gigi Hadid has teamed up with Tommy Hilfiger for her first foray into design. We hit New York for an exclusive chat.

‘If you want to be the captain, you can be the fucking captain!’ says Gigi Hadid, giving one slender leg an enthusiastic slap. We’re sitting in a New York hotel room discussing the ‘girl power sailor’ theme of her very first design gig – a 36-piece capsule collection with Tommy Hilfiger.

She’s wearing two of the items as we speak: a pair of high-waisted, indigo-denim flares with tiny anchors on the buttons, and a viscose navy-and-white striped top, the long sleeves stretched over her manicured hands like fingerless gloves. ‘We even made a captain’s hat, too!’ she adds with a grin.

The rest of the collection (hat included) is hanging on a rail just outside the door. There’s a round-neck navy sweater with a large anchor and rope motif printed on it – pleasingly 80s – a belted military coat with a ‘Hilfiger-Hadid’ badge on the lapel, and the sort of oversized cream fisherman’s sweater you could bury yourself in on a particularly cold morning.

Gone are the days when supermodels were lofty clothes horses, who earned their crust solely on catwalks and in campaigns. In the past few years, LA-born Gigi Hadid (and her pal Kendall Jenner, who she met in 2014) have redefined the role, opening themselves up to their huge online following and trading as much on their personalities and ‘girls before bros’ friendships as their looks. These days, the modelling just feels like the base layer.

‘Kendall never tries too hard,’ Hadid says of her best friend now. ‘She never looks uncomfortable in what she’s wearing. I think that’s why we get along so well, because even outside of our style that’s our personalities, we’re just very easy-going.’

The Tommy x Gigi collaboration

For Gigi Hadid, designing her own collection was more a question of when rather than if, and Hilfiger felt like the obvious choice. The Hadid and Hilfiger families have been friends since the model was little (Hadid’s mum, Yolanda, found her own fame as one of the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills), and she and her sister Bella led the runway charge for his beach-themed SS16 show last year in swimsuits and primary-coloured bucket hats.

Hilfiger recalls witnessing Hadid morph from family friend into one of the most in-demand supermodels in the world. ‘I’d known her family for a long time and when she was first put forward, I was like, “Are you crazy? Of course we should do something together, she’s beautiful!” We put her on the runway and she received more photographs than anyone ever, so that was very interesting.’

The idea of designing ‘a few pieces’ together quickly swelled to an entire collection. ‘She came in with tear sheets and ideas, and sent some pictures – Pinterest photos,’ says Hilfiger. ‘And she was wearing some stylish clothes herself – an oversized bomber, a pair of really cool sneakers... very nonchalant.’

Scheduled one-hour design sessions at Hilfiger HQ easily stretched to seven or eight hours. ‘I would just draw, or start patching things, and then I’d think, “Oh shit, I have to actually ask them if I can do this,”’ says Hadid. ‘Then I’d turn around and they’d tell me, “We love it!” So I’d go, “Alright, cool. I’m just gonna keep doing this.”’

And while Hadid brought her many mood boards of fresh ideas to the table, Hilfiger – with his 30 years of design experience – provided the guidance. ‘We never butted heads in our design process, which is good,’ recalls Hadid. ‘And he also gave me so much freedom. He was more like the supervisor, and I wanted to make him proud.’

Perhaps in keeping with the new, media-savvy see-it-buy-it generation of which Gigi Hadid is a part, for the first time ever the Tommy x Gigi collection – along with the Tommy Hilfiger main line – will be available to buy on the day it’s unveiled to the press and public, rather than six months later. ‘We’ve been talking about doing it for a very long time,’ says Hilfiger. ‘And it got to the point where we said we should just do it.’

Hadid says she’ll be ordering the lot. ‘If [people] don’t see me wearing the collection on the street when it comes out, there’s a problem. I had to make every piece wearable, and think about my fans’ and friends’ styles... those are the girls who inspire me, so I tried to design with every one of them in mind.’

Ralph Lauren launches a ground-breaking 'second fall' collection

On the penultimate day (and the final night) of New York Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren shut down a stretch of Madison Avenue to stage his first see-now-buy-now show. Here’s everything you need to know…

Ralph launches his September Collection Having already showed autumn/winter 2016 back in February, Ralph made the rogue decision to show Fall, Part 2. An effectively seasonless collection, it was all available to buy right off the runway after the model’s finale. ‘Today, I am proud to share with you, for the first time ever, my new women's collection right off the runway and into your lives. For me, this is the ultimate expression of luxury—offering you every look, every accessory, every handmade detail immediately in my flagship stores around the world and online,’ read the show notes.

A traffic stopping location The show was staged right outside the Ralph Lauren Madison Avenue flagship on the Upper East Side of New York city. Two city blocks were shut down while a catwalk was stealthily assembled under a see-through tent, complete with four tiers of cushioned seating.

Kendall made her debut Kendall Jenner walked for the all-American brand for the first time this season, closing the show in a badass leather jacket over a white shirt, styled with a statement necklace, a Western-inspired belt and tailored trousers. Bella Hadid and Liya Kebede were the other big names walking the show.

Rosie ruled the front row

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked like a total knockout on the front row in a Gothic, burgundy velvet dress with a choker and smoky eye make up. She was joined by Jessica Alba, Annabelle Wallis and Julianne Moore, who brought along her 14-year-old mini-me daughter, Liv Freundlich.

The clothes were full of Western spirit

Though the theme ran quite literally, with studded leather chokers, fringing, giant belts, and cowboy hats, it was all very wearable; the perfectly tailored pieces will suit the modern-day working woman's wardrobe. ‘I have always been inspired by the rugged beauty and romance of the American West,’ said Lauren. ‘The September Collection is imbued with that spirit, but reinterpreted in a modern glamorous way for the woman whose style is both personal and luxurious.’

The big reveal

As Mr. Lauren stepped out to take his final bow, in a faded denim shirt and light-wash jeans, he swept his hand toward the store’s windows where a gray curtain parted to reveal a video of a rearing wild horse that framed mannequins wearing some of the clothes that had just appeared on the catwalk. As the store doors opened, Rosie and co. drifted inside to peruse the looks IRL.

Hang onto your autumn/winter velvets

Today over in New York, one of fashion week’s hottest shows took place: Victoria Beckham’s SS17 show.

Her own more relaxed take on dressing hasn’t gone unnoticed lately (check out Victoria Beckham's style evolution in full). Stepping out just days before her show in a pair of loose fit jeans, a roomy shirt and wide flat sandals, carrying a slouchy handbag, her new style feels a million miles away from the vertiginous stilettos and form-fitting pencil dress uniform Victoria’s honed as her hallmark style.

This nonchalant approach to dressing has influenced her designs too it seems, and her new look set the tone for her stylish but incredibly comfy-looking collection.

Take a peek inside the Cunard Building in the financial district in New York where Victoria showed one of her most laid-back collections to date…

It was a very relaxed affair So relaxed, she even left kimono tops unfastened so that the ribbon ties dangled loosely at the sides. It was an evolution from Beckham's AW16 collection, for which she softened stiff corset into knitted and completely de-boned versions. This time around, silk dresses with bodice-waist shapes were paired with soft pleated skirts to put an even comfier spin on corsetry. VB is a major fan of pajama dressing too, though her softly tailored suits are way too good to sleep in.

It was still very sexy From corsets to bras, for SS17 she pared the VB look right back to basics. Perhaps she’s been taking style cues from Kendall Jenner, as the underwear-as-outerwear game was strong. The high-shine architectural bra top layered beneath a matching coat has been a very enthusiastically regrammed look.

We’ll still be wearing velvet in summer Well, if Victoria has anything to say about it we will. Undoubtedly the most popular trend for AW16, VB’s swishy velvet dresses and cut out tops are making this unlikely holiday material one of next summer’s must-haves.

The shoes and bags you need to know about

She’s also made a case for summer boots, with white and marle grey knee-high riding boots becoming the shoe du jour. Next season’s sell-out handbags will be pastel, unstructured sacs with floral details or super-sized shoppers. The small pouch-like one-handled bag (seen here in a minty green) has been christened ‘The Tissue Bag’, while the big shopper (in floral patterns and bold reds at the show) is called ‘The Tank Top Bag’.

The Beckham brood were (mostly) stuck in school Taking a day off to go see mum’s show seemingly didn’t pass as a reasonable excuse to miss those vital first days back, so Cruz, Romeo and Harper were absent, but did send a sweet hand-written note to cheer mum on, which read: 'Dear mummy. Good luck with the fashion show, we love you,' and was signed by Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. The designer Instagrammed the note before the show, with the caption: 'Feeling loved this morning. I love you @davidbeckham @brooklynbeckham X Kisses from NY.' 17-year-old Brooklyn did make it, and joined his dad on the front row with his trusty camera in hand.

Beauty notes The Victoria Beckham make up collection with Estee Lauder launches in stores in two day's time, and as expected the models wore products from the line. The legendary make up artist Pat McGrath was behind the graphic blue eyeliner and matte nude lip, while hair guru Guido Palau took care of the super-straight, mirror-shine, slicked-back hair.

Victoria's final bow outfit is exactly how women want to dress nowadays VB looked cool and relaxed but smartly put together, and her new collection absolutely nails that look too.

A Ferris Wheel, a tattoo parlour and Taylor Swift

Designers are renowned for their show theatrics, but Tommy Hilfiger’s autumn/winter 2016 real life funfair is destined to go down in fashion history. Elaborate sets are a Hilfiger hallmark, and past seasons have included Caribbean islands, football fields, Alpine mountains, and a giant cruise liner, but this was certainly one of his most impressive.

With 2016 becoming the year that many big name brands decided to throw the rulebook out the window and start showing clothes that can be purchased as soon as they stroll off the runway, instead of according to traditional seasons, Hilfiger hooked up with girl-of-the-moment, Gigi Hadid, on a ‘see and shop’ collection as some critics are calling it. Clearly a favourite face for the all-American mega-brand, Gigi was also the star of Hilfiger's SS16 castaway-themed show.

The designer celebrated the Tommy x Gigi capsule collection and his ‘new era’ (as the show notes proclaimed) by staging this ginormous carnival at New York Fashion Week on Friday night. ‘This is the show I’ve always wanted to present; a true democratisation of fashion,’ says Hilfiger. ‘It’s nautical meets street; inspired by Gigi Hadid and designed to be worn as you like it.’

This is what went down at the show on Pier 16 in Lower Manhattan last night…

Tommy 4Eva Anyone wishing to show their dedication to the brand could do so with a tattoo – a temporary one that is. As well as a stick-on tattoo parlour, the brilliant set included a 40-foot Ferris Wheel, other classic fairground rides and arcade games, and food — the a-list munched on lobster rolls, hot dogs, mozzarella sticks and candy floss post-show.

Gigi kicked off the proceedings Naturally, Gigi was the first model out, wearing a shrunken sailor jacket, a tank top knotted just-so, a fringed neck scarf, and leather pants, all from her collection with the brand. She also closed the show in an oversized velvet hoodie with a huge Hilfiger logo, a silky white basketball skirt, and white vans which were all from the Tommy Hilfiger mainline. Hailey Baldwin, Taylor Hill, Sara Sampaio, Hanne Gaby Odiele, and Lineisy Montero also took to the catwalk in the nautically-themed apparel.

Taylor Swift loved it Gigi’s BFF Taylor Swift was sat front row (wearing the most incredible Stuart Weitzman thigh high boots) to cheer on her pal, and judging by her reactions, she loved the collection. ‘SO PROUD OF YOU GIGI!!!!,’ Swift gushed on Instagram after the show. ‘That show was INSANE. Congrats to Gi, Tommy, and all the girls who just owned that runway!! [sic]’

Other celebrity guests to descend on the pier included Gigi’s mum Yolanda and brother Anwar, Doutzen Kroes, Olivia Palermo, Martha Hunt and Kris Jenner. Her sister Bella was in Paris (judging by her Instagram) so she sent a social media shout out to her big sister instead, tweeting: ‘Can't wait to watch ur show online @GiGiHadid I'm so sad I'm not going to be there but i know you're going to kill it!!!I love you [sic]’

Her boyfriend Zayn was also absent from the show but sent a similar encouraging tweet, saying:. .@GiGiHadid Good luck tonight baby. You’re about to show the world your amazing GxTH collection. I am so proud. You are an inspiration. X [sic]’

Add to basket ‘These are our greatest hits, remixed and restyled for the digital age and shoppable the moment the lights go up,’ Hilfiger said of the youthful and sporty collection. And indeed all of the Tommy Hilfiger hallmarks from his 30-year arsenal were accounted for: nautical details, logo-heavy sporty separates, rock-n-roll vibes and preppy-cool Americana were given ‘a modern day swagger.’

Gigi’s own style signatures were easy to pick out too; from the statement bomber jackets and slim-fit trousers, to the oversized hoodies and thigh-high stockings. Legendary make-up artist Pat McGrath was behind the ‘no make-up’ look. Teamed with natural hair, the models faces looked bare, save for a strobe of highlighter across their cheekbones, soft pink lips, and an earthy hue of eye shadow with just a touch of eyeliner.

As far as fashion shows go, Tommy Hilfiger's funfair certainly seemed like one hell of a ride.

This morning, something rather revolutionary landed in our inboxes. Sender: My Theresa (the Munich-based luxury e-tailer). Subject line: Just revealed, new-season Tom Ford. For the first time ever, the 'see-now-buy-now' strategy you may have heard fashion headlines (usually involving Burberry) shout about over the past year, appear to be taking tangible shape. Tom Ford's New York Fashion Week show, which took place in the famous and recently shuttered Four Season's restaurant in New York in the early hours of the morning, is already available to buy online.

'Show & Shop, fresh off the runway and ready to be snapped up', the promo email encouraged. And true to their word, extravagant sequin dresses and plush velvet and ostrich feather floor-length skirts from Ford's autumn/winter 2016 collection, that mere hours previously were modelled by Carolyn Murphy, Amber Valletta, Gigi Hadid and Sasha Luss, were ready and waiting for Tom Ford fans on MyTheresa.com, for £3,750 and £3,990 a piece.

A clever move, which followed an even smarter show - in every sense of the word. Scroll on for all the highlights...

A splashy venue and A-list attendees Fresh from the Venice Film Festival where he showed his second movie, Nocturnal Animals - starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal - and following on the heels of Kanye West's Yeezy Season 4 extravaganza on Wednesday afternoon, the designer and sometime film-maker made his return to the catwalk after a one-season hiatus. The lucky guests were seated at round dinner tables strewn with orchids in the legendary restaurant, and faced a raised platform in the centre where the runway took place.

The 180-strong guest list included actors, musicians and fellow fashion designers including Julianne Moore, Tom Hanks, Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, Diane Von Furstenburg, Naomi Campbell, Iman, Rita Ora, Jon Hamm, Alicia Keys, Karlie Kloss, Jessica Hart and a newly-bearded Zayn Malik (all of whom were mostly clad in Tom Ford). A Golden Globes cameraman was drafted in to film the event (which was live streamed on TomFord.com) and a total of 22 cameras panned to catch their reactions Oscars-style.

The models

From Ford’s favourites throughout his career; Carolyn Murphy, Amber Valletta, Daphne Groeneveld and Sasha Luss, to the new guard of Binx Walton, Gigi Hadid and Lucky Blue Smith, the model line up was as starry as the show-goers. After the appetiser and entrée courses, the models took to the catwalk in groups of four, until the evening look section, during which they each had the runway to themselves in order to fully show off their lavish sequin and velevt gowns.

The collection Why change a winning formation? Or so appears to be Ford's mantra as the collection was a role-call of his signatures: animal prints, liquid sequins, waist-cinching belts, second-skin leather, sheer tops and kinky boots. Grace Hartzel opened the show in a leather jacket and pencil skirt with her hair coiffed into a retro shag (far left), setting the mood for the romantic and sensual show.

The Music

A smooth playlist that included Alicia Keys (who was sat tapping her feet in the audience) Fallin', laid the foundations for the gravel-voiced and smooth AF gospel and soul singer Leon Bridges to serenade the crowd with his jazzy hits Coming Home, Brown Skin Girl and Smooth Sailin'.

Keeping up with Kanye

The famously provocative, and ever entertaining, Kanye West kicked off New York Fashion Week with his hotly anticipated Yeezy Season 4 (presented by Adidas) show yesterday in Roosevelt Island’s Four Freedoms Park, New York. As the follow up to last season's Yeezy Season 3 spectacular at Madison Square Gardens, the anticipation stemmed from the expectation for something wild to occur just as much as actual fashion - or ‘apparel’ as Ye has now requested his designs be deemed.

As expected, the Internet was having a field day this morning with post-show postmortems and tales of fainting models and fashion editors crammed onto school field trip-style buses which stalled in traffic for hours (without snacks!) in the blistering NYC heat.

Was it as chaotic as social media made it seem? Here’s everything you need to know about the show that will be flooding your Twitter feed all day:

Running fashionably late

Never one to be constrained by the New York Fashion Week schedule, West asked the 1,000 or so guests to be ready for pick up at 1:30 pm sharp; the show itself was due to start at 3pm. Keeping up with Kanye proved pointless however, and the show ran an hour and 50 minutes late, eventually kicking off at 4.49pm. There was no front row treatment aboard the Yeezy express, with esteemed New York Times Fashion Director, Vanessa Friedman tweeting: ‘On the Yeezy bus #NYFW. No snacks. No water. No music. No merch. C'mon Kanye.’ You would expect (the very brilliant) The Life of Pablo to pump for the full hour and a half-long journey to lull the hangry editors (I repeat, zero snacks!!), but no. Just silence.

The venue

The show space was pretty historic, and is the site of a former smallpox hospital, opened in 1856 to quarantine patients with the disease. Opting for his usual tableaux vivants-style installation, an army of models clad in neutrally hued underwear assembled in neat rows on a patch of grass, which was circled by a vast runway. Kanye’s long-time collaborator, the Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft, choreographed the display.

It was HOT Vanessa Friedman tweeted this picture of one model who seemingly needed to take a break from her mannequin-esque stance in the 32-degree heat with a quick recovery crouch on the grass.

#merch There was a booth on site, selling $75 long-sleeved t-shirts in white and neon yellow, with the show invitation screen-printed on them. Helpful to anyone who’d sweated through their carefully styled NWFW Day 1 outfit, no doubt.

The catwalk The models walking the runway appeared to be struggling as much as their peers on the grass, though their difficulty seemed to be less to do with the heatwave and more down to their tricky thigh high-heeled boots. One model, Amina Blue, resorted to kicking off her perspex Yeezy heels and completed her walk with a barefoot hobble, while others glided along in pool slides and trainers.

The models There were over a hundred ‘street cast’ models at the show, though some recognisable faces did appear in the form of star-on-the-rise (and Justin Bieber’s other half) Sofia Richie – who made her NYFW debut at the show but did seem to draw the short straw and was swaddled in a huge shearling-lined hoodie with thigh high boots in a heatwave.

Chanel Iman – who closed the show in black Adidas tracksuit bottoms and a matching black parka - was also one of the big names walking at the show, as was Teyana Taylor - one of the only female artists signed to West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, and the star of his epic Fade video - who was the second-to-last model out and wore a black crop top and shorts.

The frow Kim Kardashian West arrived fashionably late with sisters Kendall, Kylie and a crew of cameramen shooting Keeping Up With The Kardashians in tow. The sisters were coordinating (natch) in entirely monochrome, pale beige outfits. Other noteworthy attendees include Anna Wintour, Pharrell, Spike Jonze, Kylie’s BF Tyga and Lewis Hamilton.

The apparel As you might expect the collection was yet another offering of West's signature, oversized athleisure-meets-streetwear in a muted colour palette and camo prints. Underwear, bodycon dresses, thigh-high boots, puffer jackets in pumped up proportions and sporty crop tops worn with high-waisted skirts or briefs dominated the show.

Well, that's Kim sorted for next season, but what about you?

New York Fashion Week is traditionally viewed as the cooler, more aloof cousin of London, Milan and Paris. But this season New York has a schedule packed full of fun, as well as incredible collections. From Tom Ford's return to the catwalk, to a Tommy Hilfiger tattoo parlour, we're getting seriously excited for New York Fashion Week SS17. Running until the 15th September, things will get started in style tonight as Tom Ford and Kanye West will live stream their shows.

Tom Ford and Kanye go live

Tom Ford’s slick AF show is about as Tom Ford as things can get: 180 guests will convene in the famous (and recently shuttered) Four Seasons restaurant where they'll be treated to cocktails, a seated dinner, a performance by Leon Bridges, and a runway show. Fresh from Venice Film Festival where he debuted his second film, Nocturnal Animals, Ford is putting this epic display on the silver screen - so to speak - via tomford.com; mega-fans can sit up to watch it at 2:15am GMT. Set your alarms people...

Treading his own path, naturally, Ford will show his autumn/winter 2016 collection, as opposed to the spring 2017 collections most designers are showing this week - which won't land in stores for another 5 months - and it will all be instantly shoppable: ‘The moment the runway show goes off, [on the computer] you can go back to any outfit, twirl it around, pull out the piece, buy the piece, and 24 hours later it’s at your house,’ Ford explained to the Hollywood Reporter.

As for Kanye West, according to a press release, Ye will show Yeezy Season 4 on Tidal – a high definition platform for music videos. Members will be able to watch the show live at 8pm GMT, while non-members will be granted a one-minute preview. This news comes four days after the singer controversially tweeted a casting-call for 'multiracial women only' wearing 'no makeup' for the show.

Everyone will be wearing…

Very little if the heatwave expected to hit New York tomorrow has anything to say about it. Highs will reportedly reach near the 32 degrees Celsius mark with Thursday shaping up to be the warmest day of the week. New-season fuzzy coats and fur-lined Gucci loafers are out then.

All eyes on...

Oscar de la Renta Oscar de la Renta - whose creative director Peter Copping stepped down suddenly in July citing personal circumstances - last week announced that Monse designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia will head up the label as its new co-creative directors. Having both previously worked under the late, great de la Renta, they've been heralded as the perfect fit, but we'll have to wait until next season to see their debut collection at the autumn/winter 2017 shows, meaning that the Spring/Summer 2017 collection was finished off by the in-house design team that worked under Copping.

Calvin Klein Calvin Klein has dominated the fashion headlines over the past few months following the departure of Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli, who were the respective heads of the house's womenswear and menswear clothing lines, and the recruitment of ex-Dior designer Raf Simons. Simons has been drafted in to unify menswear and womenswear at the all-American label, but again, like Oscar de le Renta, Simons' debut is set for the February shows, meaning that the in-house team at Calvin Klein are also behind the upcoming collection. Instead of a grand catwalk show, this collection will be presented by appointment only.

DKNY Last year, Donna Karan announced that she would be stepping down from her eponymous label after 30 years. NY brand Public School’s Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow have since taken over. Their debut was met with unenthusiastic reviews and the label was sold by its parent company LVMH in July. The new owners G-III are reportedly eager to take things in a more commercial direction. Watch this space.

DVF British designer Jonathan Saunders, renowned for his vibrant prints and bold colour mixes, is now heading up Diane von Furstenberg, having closed his eponymous label last December. Instead of a catwalk show, Saunders will be holding intimate private viewings for key press and buyers.

Kenzo Kenzo, the French ready-to-wear label helmed by Opening Ceremony's Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, will show its new fashion film, The Realest Real, for the first time. Directed by Carrie Brownstein and starring Kim Gordon, not many details are known regarding the plot, but if it's half as entertaining as their recent perfume ad which was directed by Spike Jonze, we're all over it!

Shop straight from the runways of... Tom Ford, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger are all making a strong case for instantly available fashion. Hilfiger is planning a big carnival at the South Street Seaport’s Pier 16 for his hotly-anticipated Tommy x Gigi collection (a collaboration with model Gigi Hadid), complete with food, games, a temporary tattoo salon, a record store, and rides including a 40-foot Ferris Wheel. A pop-up shop will also be on-site selling plenty of the current season collection, as well as the new Tommy x Gigi line. The festivities will culminate in a catwalk show for 2,000 invited guests, on September 9th.

Private view As well as DVF, Kate Spade and Derek Lam are sitting it out this season, and instead of a catwalk show will hold private appointments with small groups of editors and buyers. Meanwhile, Misha Nonoo is opting for a Snapchat-only presentation.

Runway debuts Club Monaco Our first stop for 'grown-up clothes', Club Monaco, is showing it's first-ever presentation, under creative director Caroline Belhumeur. Embracing see-now buy-now, all 25 pieces from the collection will go on sale right after the September 9 debut.

Misha Collection In May, Bella Hadid famously opened and closed Misha Collection's runway show at Sydney Fashion Week. Now, designer Michelle Aznavorian is coming to New York. Will Bella walk this time too?

The one to watch: PH5 Ridiculously cool brand PH5 is the name on every fashion editor's hit-list. Co-founders Wei Lin (who comes from a family of textile manufacturers) and Mijia Zhang (who's CV includes Nike and Christopher Kane) are definitely the under-the-radar hot ticket this season.

It’s not all pretty frocks and celebrity front rows at fashion week you know, we learnt a beauty trick-or-two as well.

New York, AW16; it was a blast. From the Space Cowboys at Jeremy Scott, to Lady Gaga walking in the Marc Jacobsshow – AW16 delivered and then some. But, in between ogling the best AW16 lip colour (NARS Train Bleu at Rodarte) and rediscovering forgotten teenage hair styles (Hair Stylist Anthony Turner’s twisty low ponytail at Prabal Gurung) we paid attention to the pros and learnt a few easy beauty hacks. You should get in on the action too. 

Chalking: it’s a nail thing We’re always on the look out for a new nail trend whether we’re talking Rihanna style press-on’s or negative space nail art. This season we discovered chalk nails. You remember the huge pastel chalks from your childhood? The kind you’d draw all over the pavements with? At Alexander Wang manicurist Michelle Saunders recreated our favourite girl-hood pink chalk with a layer of Essie Fiji under a coat of Essie Tuck It In My Tux and topped-off with a layer of a matte topcoat called Essie Matte About You. Super easy but so lovely. You don’t have to go pink either; reinterpret the look with any pastel colour worn under a matte topcoat.

Mix your perfectly matched nude It can be really tricky to find the right colour nude lipstick, especially so if you’re really pale (the wrong nude on pale skin can look a little The Walking Dead). This is where make-up artist Diane Kendal’s lip trick comes in handy. At both Prabal Gurung and Carolina Herrera, Kendal mixed the lipstick in with a little foundation. This works on all lipstick colours if you’re just looking to mute it down a little, but if you’re after the perfect nude for your skin then a pinky nude mixed with your foundation –as Kendal did at Prabal Gurung) is a trick worth knowing. 

Get beachy hair without salt spray This has us very excited; we love the look of tousled beachy hair but we hate the gritty, sticky feel of some salt sprays. Redken’s Global Creative Director Guido Palau showed us the solution at Alexander Wang. He created matte – but touchable – texture with Redken Beach Envy Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. It volumises and leaves a slightly matte finish but, and here’s where we fell in love, it feels nice. It’s not out until the summer but we’ll be first in line to stock up when it launches. 

Swap your regular brow gel for mascara The look at Rodarte had us seeing hearts just like our favourite emoji. James Kaliardos went for a toughened ethereal look with dark vampy lips and megawatt highlight. Instead of more traditional brow pencils and powders he used NARS Audacious mascara through the short hairs – careful not to get any formula on the skin. ‘It almost looks like we’ve dyed the hair,’ he told me. We just love it.

The no-tong Waves If you’re all fingers and thumbs when it comes to a curling wand you’re going to Guido Palau’s trick at Hugo Boss. After prepping damp hair with Redken Pillow Proof Express Primer Cream and blow-drying, he gathered the hair up into a loose bun at the base of the head and secured loosely with clips. The girl’s hair was left like this while they had their make-up done and when it was let down it had the softest, most flattering bend.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner launched their eponymous new fashion line ‘Kendall + Kylie’ last night, gathering all the key industry players they could find and starting the NYFW celebrations a couple of days early.

There were, of course, dozens of celebrities in attendance (see all the pictures in the gallery above) but the big question is; is the collection actually any good?

SS16 features a classic Kardashian palette of neutrals, some off-duty model denim and some jersey pieces that don’t seem to hold much hanger appeal in the party setting, below.

But see the collection in practice, and woah, woah, woah, we’re interested. Chiara Ferragni, aka super-blogger The Blonde Salad, was the first to bring the Kendall + Kylie collection’s Insta-appeal to our attention, when she posted a picture of herself in this sexy-back gingham shirt from the range. Zanna Roberts Rassi, street style star and Marie Claire US’s Senior Fashion Editor, also looks great in the range.

Granted, they’re not The Row yet, but this is no Lindsay Lohan for Ungaro fashion flash-in-the-pan either. The celebrity sisters have set up a production office, hired a decent design team, and got industry power players from Neiman Marcus, to Saks Fifth Avenue, to Shopbop, to buy into their vision.

With ready-to-wear prices hitting in a similar place to their previous Topshop collaboration (averaging between $68 and $298) it seems that they’re out for a slice of mid-market glory.

The shoes, too, are pretty great with sculptural mules and cage sandals manufactured by Marc Fisher Footwear, retailing at around $100 each.

The other active designer in the family, Kanye West, turned up to give his blessing to his little sisters in-law and the mother of all Kardashians, Kris Jenner, was of course also there to support. So watch this space, reality TV cynics, and remember; The Row wasn’t built in a day.

Diane von Furstenberg’s SS16 show was a lesson in seventies glamour. Here’s how to re-create the look.

We’re barely into the SS16 shows and I can already tell you the overriding theme of the season with a reasonable level of certainty (backstage anyway) and it’s this: ‘less is more’, ‘natural’, ‘barely there’ make-up. Sigh.

What we’re seeing is strobing (Victoria Beckham did it best) and a touch of grooming (check those brows at Alexander Wang), but no real explosions of colour – unless you count the orange/red lip painted on five models at Victoria Beckham.

I appreciate some inconspicuous concealing and skin-like foundation finishes as much as the next person – after all it’s what we’re after in ‘real’ life - but can you blame me for feeling a desperate for some drama?

Thankfully the theatrical dry spell came to a crashing halt backstage at Diane von Furstenberg. Here make-up artist Pat McGrath and TRESemmé’s New York Fashion Week Ambassador Orlando Pita joined forces to deliver a fleet of boldly painted ‘Diane’s’.

‘This look is really all about Diane,’ explained Pita in the busy backstage area. ‘Before the show, she was sharing photos with me of herself in the 1970s where it was the first time she’d let her hair fall in its natural wave. I just loved the texture and the volume she had so I wanted the girls to rock a little of that personality today.’

Pita translated Diane’s personal snaps into a cloud of fluffy waves that glowed as they were lit up from behind on the catwalk. When we saw those hair accessories we went weak at the knees. It turns out you’re never too old to rock a statement hair accessory.

Models Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Irina Shayk, all took their turn in the make-up chair where make-up artist Pat McGrath unleashed the first real burst of colour we’ve seen this season. McGrath and her team coated lids in a bold wash of green and blue shadows that were made more intense by wetting the powders. McGrath told me that the idea behind the look came from an old shoot she did with Steven Meisel and Sophie Dahl.

Should you fancy it, here’s how to get the DVF look:

Make-Up

1. The focus here is the eye make-up. McGrath told me she was going for a butterfly-like finish with tonal blues and greens.

2. On darker skin tones McGrath used the richer blue and green shades and on paler skin tones she used less intense, softer shades.

3. Begin with your chosen shade in a shimmer finish blended closely to your lash line.

4. Spray your eye shadow with water to amp-up the intensity and blend over the lid. Diffuse the edges with a dry, fluffy brush.

Hair

1. Create a deep side parting and prepare your hair with TRESemmé Runway Collection Make Waves Shaping Gel and TRESemmé Runway Collection Make Waves Shine Enhancing Cream.

2. If you have the patience, blow-dry and start tonging two-inch sections of hair with a medium-sized barrel tong. Before the section has time to cool, loop the hair around your middle and index finger and pin it to your scalp. If you don’t have time to tong your hair just loop it and pin it. Work around your entire head; tonging, looping and pinning. Then allow to cool or set.

3. Once everything is cool or set, unpin the loops and work the waves out with your hands. For extra seventies fluff give everything a soft brush-out.

4. Use a soft-bristle brush to lightly tease the hair around your hair line and lightly set everything with a mist of TRESemmé Perectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray. Adorn your waves with a floral hair accessory if you really want to go all out.

6 Days To Go – Touchdown In NY Yes, #VBSS16 is go, and the real action starts at the airport. Victoria splits her work time between London and New York, meaning that stage one is leaving her family at home and jetting in to JFK to bring her teams together. On arrival, she also debuted a cool new fringe. Because fashion week is all about change, right?

5 Days To Go – The Model Casting But who will model VB’s new season wares? The model casting is an essential stage for every designer, as it’s the time to decide who will represent your brand to the world. Victoria usually champions new faces like Maartje Verhoef, rather than picking the obvious supermodels, and posted some sneak peek pictures from her casting call on Instagram last night.

3 Days To Go – Styling And Look Building As Victoria’s vision comes together, she’ll be liaising constantly with her design and sample manufacture teams to iron out every last detail. We love this picture she posted of her hardworking machinists for SS15.

1 Day To Go – The Final Fittings It’s 24 hours ‘til showtime. Some designers, at this stage, are still manically whipping up new looks, but word on the street is that VB is better at this than most. While last year she pulled a few late nights (leaving the office at 2am after 12 hours of fittings and three of sound and lighting tests) she does always manage to get some shut-eye before the show, which is always first thing on Sunday morning.

Day 0 - The Show Itself On the day itself, the rest of the Beckham clan will arrive in NY, take their seats on the front row with the world’s press and buyers, and get ready for Victoria’s show slot. Meanwhile backstage, the models and team will be having breakfast (a batch of Krispy Kremes if last season is anything to go by) and the hair and make-up teams will frantically beautify everybody in sight. Then, it’s showtime…

As we say a fond farewell to New York Fashion Week and hotfoot it back to London, it’s not only the shows that are leaving a lasting impression, but the impeccably dressed showgoers, too. On Day 3, the plummeting temperature showed no sign of waning, but our fashion-souls were warmed through as the street-set rolled out in their perfect thematic finery. New Yorkers, we salute you. Zoe Jordan, Designer By now we’re well aware that for most fashion designers, black is a mainstay; but it’s not only about clean lines and kimono wraps. London-based designer Zoe Jordan demonstrates how to do the inky hue practically, effortlessly and stylishly. Choose one mega-watt fur hood, a pair of heavy duty lace-up boots and polish off with a coloured set of Perspex frames.

Nadia Hanna, Model Yes we know this season's all about the Seventies, but we’re loving Nadia’s ode to the Eighties with her oversized aviator-style jacket and achingly cool Céline shades. Nadia warms up the look with the teddy-bear texture and keeps her model credentials in check with the shade of the season – pastel.

Fifty shades of beige and 43 new silhouettes, but there’s only one Kanye West. This is what happened at Ralph Lauren's AW15 New York Fashion Week show last night... 

43 Perfect Neutral Looks Ralph gives a masterclass in tonal winter dressing, working his minimalistic palette of browns, nudes, greys and blacks into no fewer than 43 show-stopping looks. The key, as always, is in his use of fabrics. Layered knits, super-fuzzy trims, shearlings, suede… you name it, and it was piled on thick in one of his luxe texture combos.

1 Front Row Mega-Fan ‘Ralph Lauren is God,’ Kanye West declared to Style.com pre-show. Well Ralph has walked on water before… But who could have foreseen that this pair would be NYFW’s hottest new bromance? Kanye nestled right in with rest of the Lauren family on the front row, and backstage, he was greeted by the designer and his wife Ricky like the fourth child they never had. We love.

Our beauty editor braved New York’s worst freeze in two decades to report on the AW15 trends as they happened. Here are her favourite moments.

New York, I love you – though I love you slightly less when the frostbite sets in. Yes, the Big Apple was freezing (literally) but boy were there some great shows.

Herve Leger TRESemmé ambassador Orlando Pita crafted this amazing double twist boyish 'do and he made it look effortless in the process. There are a few things happening here: a side parting, a slightly elevated quiff at the front, dual textures and, of course, two twists.

What’s not to love about this make-up look? It debuts a new MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Color in Oh, Lady (available later this year) and it uses glitter on the lashes to suggest droplets of water. Just beautiful.

Rodarté If I’m honest, I didn’t think they could top last season’s studded brow, but make-up artist James Kaliardos pulled it out of the bag. His assistant spent Valentine's Day meticulously gluing strands of Swarovski crystals together to create the fine strips of bling you see here.

3.1 Phillip Lim What can I say? I’m a sucker for a red lip. Make-up artist Francelle Daly used NARS VIP Red Lipstick (out later this year) to give a stark contrast against stripped-back skin.

Blake Lively's mum is clearly a big fan of her daughter's fashion choices.

New mum Blake Lively made her second appearance at New York Fashion Week yesterday when she stopped by to check out Marchesa's AW15 collection.

The collection, which, according to designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, was inspired by 'opiate-hazed dreams', clearly impressed Blake, who shared a photo of the show finale on her Instagram account, writing: 'Turns out it's not appropriate to drool at a fashion show. I'm in awe of Georgina & Keren. ❤️Marchesa❤️.'

While we too are infatuated by the 3D organza poppies featuring throughout the whole collection, it was Lively's mum who caught our style-savvy eye. For Elaine Lively appeared to have done a style-swap with her famous daughter.

Snapped wearing the Reverse Raven Trench Cloak by Lindsay Thornburg that Blake was seen wearing during her pregnancy, Elaine is clearly a fan of her daughter's fashion choices.

In fact, Elaine had almost exactly recreated Blake's maternity look, teaming the cloak with simple black trousers and a pair of classic knee-high boots.

It's a case of like daughter, like mother.

The fash-pack are out in full force at New York Fashion Week, showing off their finest clobber – but how can we take tips from their wardrobe so it actually works for us? We've scoured the streets to find out how NYC's street-style stars put their looks together. Read on for the new rules in how to get dressed now (whether you are a street style star or not!)...

The Dress Over Trousers Is A Thing... Yes, seriously, try it. We've seen this on the catwalks over the past couple of seasons and now we've spotted it on a few stylish gals this week in New York; and we like it. Just because it's cold doesn't mean you can't embrace the boho vibe of SS15 that's coming our way this summer.

Why It Works... Aussie photographer Zanita has it all going on. Flares? Tick. New season Chloé bag? Tick. Fuzzy coat? Tick. But somehow it all works. When trying the dress over trousers trend, stay within the same colour family as Zanita has, to stop it looking bag lady chic. Note how the Chloé bag matches the scarf – and teamed with the brown fuzzy coat, it's an easy styling trick used to tie the whole look together. Do keep your trousers skinny or cropped, though, for the most flattering effect.

All Black Everything Always Works... You really can't go wrong with black head-to-toe. It's just so chic. Every time. At MC HQ, we're big fans of the all-black-everything look.

Why It Works... Why wouldn't it?! If you're more of an understated classics kinda gal, this is the look for you. For extra style points, try a cropped trouser with a mannish brogue – and do add a faux-fur trim to your coat for a expensive-looking finish. If your black staples are looking a little on the grey side, you need a bit of Dylon in your life. We often do a home-dyeing job with stellar results. Just sayin'.

Learn The Art Of Layering... If you thought layering up adds pounds, think again. The trick is in the combination of the proportions you use. Blogger Margaret Zhang has been a fan of the layered look this New York Fashion Week, and we can safely say this outfit stole our hearts.

Why It Works... Starting with a long oversized coat will always help keep the chill out, plus its the perfect starting block. A leather biker is a classic that works under most cover-ups, as it's not too chunky. But the real star of the show is the Dion Lee cropped cutaway sweater. We're obsessed. And you thought crop tops were only for the summer! The trick is in the shrunken proportions of the piece, which helps to give the overall outfit a flattering look. Showing off your smallest part – the waist – is always a winner, rather than covering it up in lots of layers.

There's Always A Statement Coat... Fashion blogger Charlotte Groeneveld knows that the easiest way to update your look is with a statement coat.

Why It Works... It's minus freezing in NYC at the moment, so it's not about leaving the house without your trusty cover-up. If you're going to layer up, do it in style. When it's this cold, let's face it, you're not exactly going to be de-robing, so why not make it all about your coat and accessories? These are the things that are seen, so make it worth it. Whether you keep your accessories minimal and make it all about the coat, or play with texture and add a sparkle bag like Charlotte has, sometimes more is more. Boom.

Go Supersize On The Accessories... There are a few stylish touches going on here. The camel colour palette is T.D.F. teamed with the cosy oversized sheepskin. We are totally smitten. But the real star of the show is the accessories.

Why It Works... Go big or go home we say, and Fashion Editor Giovanna Battaglia obviously agrees. We heart the supersized knitted hat – so look out for mega pom-poms to add interest to a otherwise quite classic accessory. It's such a stylish way to keep warm, and teamed with her mini bag adds a playful edge to her outfit.

Natalie Kingham, Buying Director We are loving Natalie's pop-art-meets-biker look as she styles up this colourful Carven printed dress with a heavy vintage Céline leather jacket which adds a real grungy edge. She opts for a Mark Cross boxy shoulder bag – renowned for his vintage-inspired handbag shapes – to keep her look retro. A neutral colour is always a good idea to keep it sophisticated and cool rather than too over the top. And a bit of excessive fluff around the neck when temperatures plummet? It's fabulous, darling.

Veronika Heilbrunner, Buyer, MyTheresa.com When boyish meets girly and equals something along the lines of fashion genius. Veronika uses her inside fashion knowledge to style a gorgeous printed maxidress with very masculine pieces. A double-breasted coat has been this winter's staple for us all, but who said it had to be worn conservatively? It's time to push the boundaries; pull out the floaty dress you thought you wouldn't wear until August and style it with a chunky trainer and your everyday black coat for a look that will rock. And it's safe to say we are still too busy gushing over how cute her boxy Louis Vuitton bag is to even discuss it. She's soaring sky high on our style list.

Caroline Issa, Stylist Our love for layering has just hit an all-time high as Caroline opts for long monochrome layers of simple pieces to keep warm in the NYC snow. We are dying to get her shearling lined parker which looks perfect to cosy up in. Need a high street-friendly price? We've spotted a few great alternatives from Mango, so check it out. Be creative and add a flash of subtle colour with a dark green glove to bring it all together. To toughen her look from everyday to runway-ready, only incredible statement knee boots will do and (pssst!) it's this season's top styling tip to wear your midi skirt over the boots. Brownie points all round for this fashionista!

The models at Misha Nonoo took hair styling into their own hands.

It was a case of models doing it for themselves at Misha Nonoo’s AW15 show in New York on Saturday. The backstage area was a quiet affair compared to the usual mayhem we’ve grown accustomed to. It had something to do with the absence of the usual fleet of hair stylists we expect to see backstage, the models were doing their own hair. 

They were obviously under the tutelage of an expert stylist – in this case TRESemmé’s Ryan Trysgstad. 'The designer wanted the girls hair to look like they did it themselves. What better way to get that look than to actually get the girls to do it', he told me when we caught-up backstage before the show. 

The style, thankfully, was a simple one: a side-parting and a slightly waved low ponytail accentuated with a few carefully placed matte bobby pins along the hair line. The process went a little like this; they prepped their hair with TRESemméPerfectly (un) Done Wave Creation Sea Foam from root to tip (sadly this isn’t out in the UK until next year so in the meantime try TRESemméMake Waves Creation Spray which can been used to both style and finish your hair). Once prepped, the models carved out a deep side-parting in their hair and lightly tonged the lengths with a large barrel styling wand. A neat low ponytail came next and a few bobby pins slipped into the hair to finish everything off. 

Most of the models were surprisingly adept with a curling tong. 'They mostly found it simple enough but for the odd one that found it tricky I asked them to create the ponytail first and then just wave the ends,' explained Trysgstad.

So is this the what the future has in store for catwalk beauty?
